Every part of ship bow/stern/midsection/superstructure/citadel has it's own hp pool. If that pool is depleted, you stop taking damage.
All torps hit stern, so hp pool was depleted pretty fast.
Fire damage takes hp directly from ship hp, not section hp, so fires never saturate. which is retarded if you ask me, since there is a limit to how much anything can burn

You get set on fire by cruisers with longer range than you, can never get broadside because your crappy armor will get wrecked which goes against having most of the guns at the back, so your only choice is to use others as meatshields to get closer and fire all the guns.
It still has decent speed and agility, so you can use that to pull a retreat if necessary.
