MA Ulm Rainbow No-Bless Master Alchemist edition.

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Sound investment, Berry. You sure killed some sneks.

Not that this is some spectacular or astounding military victory, but now that I see my demise approaching, I'll savour everything I can get.
I'm still baffled that you haven't removed me 20 turns ago, I've been the underdog this entire war.

Is it those 3 attacks (two of which are magical) size 3 large HP Berserk 7 dudes? because those are ridiculous, and there's no cost effective way to deal with them. Spam out elementals or evo or whatever and accept that you'll have to put out significantly more gold and mage support than the dude using them because they're just overpowered.
>>
>>161670967
Also, everyone in that game should be ganging up on the person using them, because it's trivial for them to roll over multiple players with those guys if you don't team up to stop him.

Yes, those are the guys I'm worried about. Actually, I have no plans of going to war with the, but still, they're scary. Here it is blessed and berserk. The HP was 35 to start with, which rounds to four HP regenerated per turn.
>>

So is claiming godhood though, and sending young men to die horribly in your selfish wars.
>>
>>161673442
Shit, that's true.
>>
>>161673442
Eh, not sure claiming godhood is immoral, doesn't it depends if the god is going to be evil or good? Besides in a world where everyone is racing for it you might as well male sure the next ruler of all creation is a good one.
However I do agree sending people to die for you is immoral. But I was wondering, If X pretender wins can't he just decide to resurrect all soldiers who died or make them go to his own Heaven?
>>
>>161673364
Yep, those are the ones. They're like burning ones, but harder hitting, more hp, vastly higher prot, str, attack, MR, etc. They're basically better in every way except for their fire shield
>>
>>161673364
>26 prot

Well then.
>>
>>161673275
Ways get a 90% vs a 50% of finding slaves, can fly to get to places fast, can make wolves/foul spawn for insta patrollers, and can cast some decent combat spells without using slaves. Also don't need a fort/temple/lab, just a lab.
>>
>>161673364

>>
>>161674182
But hey they have only 2 defence while berserking. You're bound to get some hits in.
>>
>>161674473
Critical hits halve their prot. So in other words, it's going to be 13.
>>
>>161673754
Embrace it. Mortals are simply a tool, or in the case of Blood magic, a bargaining chip.
>>
>>161674604
After 20 rounds of combat, sure.
>>
>>161674604
>>161674821
Or wait, no - it's never going to happen because E9. Or rather, it won't be particularly very likely until past the autorout timer. GOOD LUCK

I think your best bet is to spam AN stuff at them that also isn't MR-negates because they have 17 MR too for some reason. so... lightning evo. A dickload of crossbows will eventually whittle them down (bearing in mind that regular crossbows will average -2 damage, so they'll only even tickle them a little under 1/3rd of the time) and the same goes for spammed high-AP damage stuff like elementals
>>
Your best bet, strategically, is going to be to attack their land with all of their other neighbors. Sure they'll be able to crush your armies because their sacreds are stupid, but if everyone attacks them at once then they'll still lose ground since they just won't be able to cover everything.
>>
>>161675091
>that regular crossbows will average -2 damage
a tad more, won't it? Since piercing damage reduces their prot by 20%.

11 damage xbow vs 26 prot
prot is halved (AP), and 80% effective (piercing). 26*.5*.75 = 10.4 (round up or down?)

So you're at like 10 + DRN vs 11 + DRN if it rounds down. Joy.
>>
>>161675091
Well, they still take fatigue even with reinvigoration 4. Stellar Cascades spam would put them to sleep. Too bad nobody has that.

>crossbows
In order to not have them fully healed by next turn, you need to do four damage per unit. That means you want more than a dozen crossbows per one of them. With fifteen crossbows per one, you should be able to whittle them down in 35 turns. 24 crossbows per one will take them out in about 8 or 9 turns, so if you're facing an army of thirty of them (not an unreasonable number) you're going to need more than seven hundred crossbows to win in a reasonable timeframe. And that's assuming these guys don't plow through your front line and kill the crossbows first.

>>161688329

>>
>>161689151
I don't know anything about modding but that sounds like it could work, you'd just have to be careful that the battlefield doesn't fill up completely by keeping the sizes of the lesser skeletons controlled
>>
>>161689151
>>161689514
Basically, spells like Swarm and HoS have a check built into the spell before it's cast to see if there's room on the battlefield for it. Even something as simple as making one of them a 'nextspell' effect can cause the game to crash because that check is removed and the battlefield can be overfilled.

What you can do is give it a death-shape thing (skelepart a) that summons a second thing (skelepart b) without the autospell, but if the autospell thing waits until the start of skelepart b's turn to cast, it might still cause issues. I'm not even sure how to properly test this.
>>
>>161689514
It would make sense and be pretty easy to make sure that the sum of the sizes of the smaller skeletons is equal to or less than the size of the larger skeleton.

A size 6 giant skeleton dies into a size 3 ogre skeleton and three size 1 incomplete skeletons.
A size 3 ogre skeleton dies into a size 2 man skeleton and one size 1 incomplete skeleton.
A size 2 man skeleton dies into two size 1 incomplete skeletons.

Although probably with some degree of randomness with those merely as the caps.

Put units on commander, patrol. It kills population that dissents. More units = better patrol. I think it's based on some stat, I think it was precision? I do know for a fact that fliers are like double or tripple as effective as normal patrollers.
>>
>>161691551
It lowers unrest and creates corpses, and raises your chances to capture (read : engage in combat and murder) sneaking units.

so what does the shorthand stand for in terms of magic. Im trying to learn the game and using a guide and they suggest to build a pretender F9 E4 S4, and I know that F is Fire and E is Earth, but none of the magic types start with S so im really lost there.

>>
>>161693480
>>161693605
Thanks guys, Also that makes a ton of sense I forgot that A was taken, also this is just a regular game vs AI but why would I not want any Astral in multiplayer?
>>
>>161693707
He specifically meant don't give only 1 point because of a spell called Magic Duel
3 plus should be safe unless you are facing high astral nations like R'lyeh
>>
>>161693707
Because there's a spell, magic duel if I remember right, which is based on your astral skill.
So having one astral is a risk, since a S2 mage can attack your pretender and cripple him.
>>
>>161693707
There's a spell called Magic Duel which astral mages use to instant-kill one another. The win probability is linked to starting S level, so if you take an S1 pretender god, somebody will just send a handful of S1 mages in battle against him and his chance of survival is very, very low
>>
>>161693878
If you're at above S6 then you won't be harmed by S1s.
>>
>>161693707
There is a spell where an astral mage duels other astral mage, and the more skilled they are in astral, the higher the chance they have to win. The one that win survives and the one who loses dies (if they draw, both of them die).

And this ignores any other unit that isn't a mage with astral paths.
This means that if you have a enormous army with mgaes and so, and no astral mages other than your N9W9S1 pretender, a S1 mage of the enemy has 21/36= 0'583 -> 58'3% chances of killing your god through your big army, while a N9W9 wouldn't even be targeted by it.
The numbers for this spell, called Magic Duel, are:
both of the mages roll 1d6 and add it to their astral level, then compare that value to the other and die or not die depending on the result.

This is why if you put astral in your commander you have to try to keep it high or avoid magic duelers.
>>
God dammit, I fucking hate Dominions so much.
>all these fucking items
>descriptions make them look super powerful
>they're too expensive for what they bring
One of these days, I'll say "fuck it", I'll pick a commander, strap him with awesome items, put him on the frontline, tell him to LERRROY JENKINS, and watch the show as he leads the charge.

>>161693868
>cripple

More like kill it, senpai.
>>
>>161694415
Pretenders cannot be permanently killed.
>>
>>161694353
That's pretty much what SCs do
>>
>>161693707
>>161693878
With Magic Duel both roll their base (unboosted) Astral + 1d6, loser dies, in a tie both die. Even with S6 an opposing S1 mage Magic Dueling has a 1/36 chance of killing the S6.

It's not an issue if you're reasonably certain your pretender will never see battle.
>>
>>161694460
itdepends
>>
>>161694528
If you have a bunch of crappy S1s then it's not a big deal either
>>

>he things SCs don't yump on enemy armies
>>
>>161694353
If you use mini thugs with human chaff it's pretty decent.
>>
>>161694647
Pretty sure the enemy mind duelers will prioritize the high-value target over the soothsayers or w/e.
>>
>>161694782
Oh yeah; this can be good too. In late game scenarios where you have all the battlefield buffs up and troops just kinda whack at each other not doing damage, it can also be worth having lightly geared thugs that can actually kill things through Army of Gold

>>161694863
Sorta. I haven't figured out priorities, but it SEEMS to target closer units and high HP targets.
>>
>>161694863
>>161694913
You are largely wrong. Magic duel has three prioritizations:

The most important is that the target be lower in level than it is.
The second most important is that the target be as high level as possible without violating rule 1.
The third most important is that the target be as close as possible, without violating the first two rules.

(The zeroeth is that they are a valid target, of course).
>>
>>161695572
This doesn't match my two second tests. Let me see if I saved them; if not, I'll whip one up with some giants real quick.

Personally, although I endeavor to win, I tend to enjoy the game more when losing because I need to think more. Might help that if I fail while already losing, it was inevitable, but if I win it's glorious.
>>
>>161695685
>>161695572
Okay, just tested it.

It does NOT prioritized by HP, but it also doesn't seem to prioritize by distance. In my test, I put the magic duelers in different places vertically (top, mid, bot) and did the same with the mages to be targeted and in both tests the duelists targeted the enemy mages in the middle first. Let me do another run to see if astral level matters.
>>
>>161695923
I only like losing if there's a chance I can come back. Losing with no chance of victory is just a slog. I also like winning a lot because I rarely win.
>>
>>161695923
Losing, because you can't enjoy something that never happens.

Okay, and it definitely doesn't target based on astral level. Here an S1 tried to duel an S10 after his two buddies successfully dueled enemy S1s. It also does not appear to be based on unit ID, so I'm pretty much stumped.

The AI is pretty aggressive about building tempels. If you see your dominion go down, build more tempels to counter this. Or recruit priests to preach. Or just invade him and raze his temples.

Also be sure to get Thrones. Thrones can dompush very powerfully, depending on how powerful the throne is.

Just played a long CPU match vs ermor (among others). First off fuck those undead "I'm behind 7000 skeletons" bastards. I won but have a few questions,

1. What is the best counter in general?

2. Recommendations for MA Ulm vs ermor?

3. I won via thrones but didn't go underwater to fight those nations. What is the best way to fight underwater? Buy indie mermen? Or make a shitload of items? Summons?
>>
As LA R'lyeh, how do I deal with the massive amounts of free spawns draining my income to death?
>>
>>161700301
Send them to die.
>>
>>161700110
1. There's no best anything. Late-game is a neverending one-upmanship championship where counters counter countering counters.

2. Research magma eruption/earthquake/rain of stones and kill skellingtons by thousands.

3.If there's like 1 throne UW, there's no reason to go there until late-game if you really need it. Otherwise, UW nations will almost certainly get all UW provinces, and there's not much you an do about it. If there are no UW nations, you should get UW mercenaries ASAP, as you will have uncontested territory this way.

4. Stop playing SP and join a MP game.
>>
>>161700301
Pick them up with a freespawn commander and throw them at the nearest enemy province. The ones without S random are useful for ferrying madmen to the front.
>>
>>161700857
Thanks. I'm considering MP at this point as I think I have figured my way around the UI at least. One followup question, because ermor destroys population and thus the supplies in the provinces. What can I do to counter that? Is there any sort of logistics that can help?
>>
>>161701464
There are some nature items that provide supply. There are also some commanders with supply bonus traits.
If you don't have any, recruit indie nature mages.

As long as you can get big enough quick enough, you should be able to just have enough stuff to make up for the handful of missing paths

>>161721884
I think it was something like this, though I don't remember. The idea behind this is to have all end-game paths available to you. You already have S on your Grand Lemurs, so I took most other paths for sitesearching and summoning/crafting. Should've gone F2 for flame spirits, probably. Immortality allows you to participate in early-midgame defensive wars and win them without losses. W/N gives foul vapors. E/A RoS/Earthquake, earth and air end-game (with boosters). W3 gives water end-game and some battlefield spells. N gives Gift of Health.

For Lemuria you generally need path diversity because otherwise you won't even be able to siteseatch without indies. Awake is also a necessity because otherwise you won't be able to summon your mages. Other than that, I didn't rely on ghosts past expansion phase (skelespam with 3 Lemurs is stronger than all your ghosts combined)
>>
>>161722389
You can probably get away with an awake D expander like underworld dog or something, though I feel that ghosts expand just fine on their own.

We have 4 nations (Rus, Lemuria, Riley, and C'tis) who are in equally good positions and with equal amount of provinces and thrones. Arguably, Riley is a little more fucked by AC, and Rus' bloodhunting will be fucked by armageddon spam by immortal caster, but mass tart warfare won't be affected one bit. The first person who makes a move will lose. We decided to end it in a draw because of lack of enthusiasm from all players. Except Nick. He still wanted to play, the absolute madman.

>>161726078

>>
>>161726078

Bogarus is notable mainly for their ability to make a giant stack of MOTHERFUCKIN' FIREBIRDS AWWYEAH in their cap, which can result in a ridiculous stream of big money/gem events.

Your sacreds are shit, so you can afford go full scales. You've pretty good mages as well, and the national summons are pretty sweet, so it can be worth dipping those paths you don't have natively but need for summons on your pretender.

>>
>>161738436
More like implying that I have a poor grip on the vanilla game in general. So all these minutia involved in the other mods will go over my head. Does better arena offer better rewards so it isn't worth ever missing? Does summod make underwater different to handle? Which nations heroes are made more "worthy"?

I can understand that these may seem like no-brainer additions to a veteran. But they only increase the advantage of those who are in the know (non noobs.)
>>
>>161740536

We're the sixth match, and currently the second match is almost over. I'll make sure to post when the fifth match begins so you can get in if you don't want to watch the other games.
>>
>>161740675
Worthy Heroes doesn't change decision making at all.

Better Arenas (seems to) change decision making but only by making it more intuitive. Caring about the arena in vanilla is a trap yet to a noob (like me when I first started) it seems like a cool and valuable use of your time and resources.
>>
>>161740675
Better arena gives you a random const 8 artifact and you dont have to defend it

Worthy heroes gives buffs most nations heroes or adds new ones and nerfs a couple (mostly xibalia) but doesnt really change much.

Also Admin can you please delete vanarus? I would like to go with Abysia instead.

i have a noob question

people often say it is good to have a 2nd fort by the end of the first year, but is there any good indicators on where a fort should be built? i just dont wanna random build a fort on a "useless" location
>>
>>161750995
I use income>100 to decide where to build my forts. My first fort is always 3 provinces away from my cap so that it doesn't interfere with my cap's resources
>>
>>161750995
Choke points, high resources, places you really want guarded like thrones or certain magic sites

Certain nations can even just afford to slap forts next to each other (but very few)
>>
>>161734210
Hello friend I would like to play as EA acroscephale. I will email my prretender in a while!
>>

>>161751272

>>
Comfy is go tho

Man, those nations.
>>
>>161750995

It depends on your nation. Forts function by taking a percentage of resources(percentage determined by their administration score) of resources from neighboring provinces. If you are a nation that will never really be resource starved, I would just place them on high income provinces, or thrones.

Another valid option is to place them in a forest that is blocking the route to other provinces, since you can build roads in a completed fort, which removes the movement penalty of a forest.
>>
>>161750995
Most important is having it within one turn's worth of map move away from other forts.

Second most important is either neighboring resources if you're a resource heavy nation in the first two years or putting it on a forest you want to build road through.

Other than that it doesn't matter. Forts almost never have over 50 admin so there's no reason at all to worry about a loss in resource efficiency.

LAte_to_the_party is over, Everyone agreed to a mutual draw since no one wanted to go through the Late game slog. I will highlight some key points at the end round:

1. Rlyeh had a chance when he had nexus up, but myself (sneks) and lemuria funded our pearls to overcast it at 864 and basically forced back into grid locked by his insanity pop.

2. Bogarus had ONE MIRRIONR VAMPIRES but had no desire to fight since he hated Late game micro

3. Lemuria had ONE BIRRION GHOSTS and was of similar sentiments, also 3 pearls from nexus a turn lel

4. Myself (sneks) had a blood economy going and most of the demon lords plus ONE MIRRIONR TOMB WYRMS but I didn't want to be arsed with late game micro either and I knew the second I try to rush any thrones the world would unite against me, plus I'm a stupid person and got myself into 12 games and didn't want to deal with it
Overall a fun game though even if no one won, I would say N9B9 is def. viable for LA c'tis
>>
>>161754198
How do you get green normal provinces like that?
>>
>>161742378
Well, LaTe is now over - mostly because everyone agreed to end the suffering. If I felt LA R'lyeh had any ability to do anything under AC (and without Nexus even) maybe I would have tried to rush some thrones, but with hampered ritual movement all that would have done would turn a stalemated game into an outright loss.

Honestly I didn't do much anything in the game until I had Nexus - just nipped at Mari a little early and some of AI Atlantis with Lemuria. The most important part of all that was preventing Lemuria from grabbing another 1 throne.

Once I had a sufficiently large Golem army I began voting people off the map, first Mari, then TC - both for their thrones. My next plan was to do the same onto C'tis' 3-throne and more or less unguarded 1-throne to grab the win. Sadly I then lost my Nexus, and then AC came up.

If I had *only* lost my Nexus I might have still been able to pull it off. But LA R'yleh is the least capable nation in all dominions for dealing with AC, which meant winning became effectively futile - especially since C'tis has a blood economy.
>>
>>161754198
I love how my provinces are a complete blank spot for the most part.

It wasn't so much losing Nexus that cost me everything, it was AC being up that did. Lemuria taking Nexus was actually fucking perfect when he did so, because it gave me a solid way to manipulate Bogurus into fighting Lemuria while I quickly grabbed the last thrones needed to win.

Then AC came up and ruined all my plans.

MA/LA R'lyeh has the deepest national/recruitable access (a good chance of getting S5 on full slots chassis) and decent communion slaves/masters but it's not the most potent faction. Marveni and Sauromatia have the the cheapest massable S1s. Pythium, Kailasa/Bandar Log/Patala, Arcoscephale and Bogarus deserve a mention for their communion prowess. Perhaps LA Pangaea too (centaur sages make excellent communion slaves and aren't too bad masters).

If you're concerned with winning on nation that primarily uses astral-based tactics rather than just level of astral access, I'm inclined to consider Bogarus the strongest.

Actually, yeah. This is a thing. People sometimes talk about how titan pretenders are useful for having an SC that can take down midgame armies, but monoliths can do the same ungeared. A dormant monolith is pretty affordable with either an N9 bless or huge scales and Sx/Ex/Nx diversity paths.

What's the point of playing out a massive and tedious lategame slog when it's clear who is going to end up winning?
>>
>>161795993
>>161796273
And to be clear, I'm talking about a position where you're steadily losing ground/resources relative to your enemy, but it's happening slowly.

I've been in that position and it was always clear who was going to eventually win, but it'd have taken him dozens of lategame turns to bring me down. Thankfully he managed to grab enough thrones off other people to finish without either of us having to deal with that.
>>
>>161795093
I threw in the towel for an effective 4-man draw in Late because LA R'lyeh is 100% neutered by AC, and I didn't possess enough current power to rush the thrones with any chance of success.

And then when everyone else wanted to call it, being 'that guy' that is keeping the game going is a fast way to get gangbanged, since they'd KNOW something's up at that point.

There's always a front runner but it's not over until it's over. For all you know, the guy might drop his comp right before a big battle and stale. Maybe that neighbor you never talk to has been building BVCs all game and he's going to annoy the guy to death? The AI might even suddenly get off its ass at a critical point and divert just enough troops away for you steal your cap back. As long as you keep fighting, there's always a chance of victory.

>>
>>161797806
>the guy might drop his comp right before a big battle and stale.
Even a single big battle wouldn't have been decisive, we both had lots of armies and lots of reinforcements to back them up.

I could win everything I fought in a single turn with 100% kills, 0% losses and it'd barely matter. He'd have to stale long-term or start half-assing his turns and in both cases that's more him deciding to give up than me beating him.

>Maybe that neighbor you never talk to has been building BVCs all game and he's going to annoy the guy to death?
Everyone was fighting him at that point, and all losing. I was just the one losing the least badly.

>The AI might even suddenly get off its ass at a critical point and divert just enough troops away for you steal your cap back.
I very much doubt that'd have mattered. Both of us could deal with an AI with a minor fraction of our forces (I was producing a SC per turn, he had similar stuff going on.)

Basically, once you get far into lategame you can't really win based off one stroke of luck or genius - forces are too spread out and large for that. You need to continuously trade favorably, and I was clearly losing at that.

>>161798136
Absolutely, though I might make an exception for a player who is irrelevant.

Ur Slaughter.png

-Part 1-

I Need a confidence booster /domg/,

I'm playing Early Age Fomoria in a medium sized game against alot of people far more experienced then me and we're at turn 50~ now with no clear leader in the game. I know i need to kill Early Age Ur as my next step. I've built up the political situation and once my offensive starts i want to do it pretty quick and expect to have it won in 5-8 turns. He only has 4 forts.

Heres the problem. I'm afraid and unsure on how to muster myself to tackle him. I know I have to hit one of two forts, his capitol or a fort on his cap ring. These two forts are filled with vine ogres(and as I understand it they don't contribute to fort defense in sieges), a large splattering of troops with d9 bless, and loads of mages. I can sail/stealth on his capring fort or just walk up to the cap. I have full scouting info around his land with having spent the last several turns raiding provs depriving him of income.

The problem i'm experiencing is in part due to my inexperience(and thus hesitation) with late game wars but more of how the game has played out for me. The thing is, the last 15 or so turns I've done nothing but slaughter and murder army stack after army stack sent to me from several nations.

Example 1. Ur(These guys didn't get to have a place to retreat to): http://i.imgur.com/WZSNXOR.png

Example 2: http://i.imgur.com/UzSnYgZ.png

I kid you not all my battles have been that lopsided, the worst battle I've had is where I killed 2 of my own Firbolg mages from Fog Warriors -> x3 RoS Spam which utterly wiped the enemy with the exception of the pretender and some Conj summons who ran off.
>>
>>161800023
-Part 2-

The issue I have is, after all this 1 sided slaughter with people attack into me, I'm extremely reluctant to go on a offensive knowing I'll be out numbered in mage count, after all, all of these major victories are when people have come to attack into my mage filled core. I don't have a clear read on Ur's tech and what his general defense plan will be. I do know I'll need to invest a heavy amount of my troops to siege his forts to crack them open for assault. I have strong tech, most tech trees being at 6/7 levels. But with me not knowing Ur's tech, and him having practically all his mages gathered and alive except for those i killed in 1 battle I fear(and I think overly fear) attacking him despite having a overall reasearch lead with powerful spell combos like Fog Warriors, horde of skelly spam, and a thunder fend+wrathful skies.

So can you help me get in the right frame of mind, give tips, lend advice on attacking a experienced player playing Ur in a mid-endgame setting?

General advice, not specifically for fighting Ur.

If you're worried about a big fight, try raiding with weak forces (thugs, SCs, small elf parties) rather than going in with a big army. If he sits in his forts while you take his provinces out from under him you'll win by just having more gold/gems to replace losses with, if he comes out of the forts and takes the provinces back you get to see his research/tactics and get a chance to gank weaker armies with Cloud Trapezing SCs.

They picked a team that, even with a tri-bless, is super fucking rushable. And they're next to basically every single fucking rush team in the whole game.

In any sane world, the reputation plus late game power of Jotun+Mictlan will get them ganged on harder than Malakal did in VD.
>>
>>161800510
you know they will try very hard to paint ermor/scleria are the better target but honestly with the team effectively killing one of their teammates with pop kill I swear to god everyone sees the light in killing johuntheim/mictlan first

>you know they will try very hard to paint ermor/scleria are the better target
I just hope nobody is dumb enough to fall for it.

Alot of my fear comes from me having been able to craft my response to invading armys and attacking into them without the enemy knowing what I'd be doing. To kill Ur, he's going to know my battle set up(if he probes correctly) while I cant to plan somewhat blindly. That's making me really hesitant about the whole business.

Ur's army comp leads me to believe that he's not that great, so you're probably fine to just take him head on. Fomoria has excellent end-game options, and even your midgame spells should be enough to beat Ur if he doesn't diversify or play to his national strengths.
>>
Asking again, anyone would like to take over a late-game ME EA Arco ? Got a shitload of toys you can play and experiment with.
>>
>>161801330
I think he is underperforming but he's supposed to be one of the better people in the group we play with. I know i have the capability to win with the situation but I know what hours of hard planning on an important battle can do to the enemy which is why I'm afraid, and exploring options with whomever I can to maximize my odds.
>>
>>161801645
You could just meme him to death with massed bane venom charms or shit like that.
>>
>>161801072
Go for it then, just don't send too much to the fight. At this point of the game you're going to lose fights sooner or later, so make sure a single loss doesn't cripple you.

With more territory than him (and presumably more gold and gems) you can eat losses more easily than he can, so trading evenly is probably a win for you. Make sure you don't let him start a counteroffensive, though.

If you want to be really paranoid you can take the fort province with a thug, then move your army in to secure defensive turn while sieging. Once the fort is breached, send a scout in to see what he has, then make your strategy with that information in mind. If it looks like he's planning a ton of battlefield spells in the fort, you can send a single commander with proper equipment to trigger gem spending and get rid of a lot of his gems.

There is a setting to warn on end of turn if commanders don't have orders. It is useful if you forgot to forge again or move a commander. Less so when it complains that your well positioned scouts aren't doing anything.

No. In the default history of Dominions there is no ascension war at all. There are local and not-so local conflicts (Ermor conquering the shit out of Europe then fucking things up, Abysia kicking Jew asses, the R'lyeh mess, etc.), but no global war. The three ages are just segments of the history like our Bronze Age, Iron Age, Medieval eras and so on. Ascension War would be a global event and we know some cultures were cut off from the others. After all, if the happened during EA, how could Mictlan be unaware of Marignon conquistadors until the Late Age?

Supposing Illwinter has thought unit ages through you can find some limits, though (they clearly aren't randomly assigned so I think we can use them as general guidelines even if we assume KO doesn't have the history written down at accuracy of a year). Looking at just Ermor heroes, “Caractor“ the Arch Censor is 187 years old and was the top Censor at the moment of Ermor's fall so MA appears to take place a bit more than a hundred years after the Cataclysm. “Alcastos“, Forgotten King is 392 years old and witnessed the Cataclysm (the prophecy being post-EA) so that means MA is 300+ later than EA. You can probably find heroes or units that would set the upper limit as well or provide a higher lower limit.

Those are the same event (cataclysm / fall of ermor). If anything, that's a big inconsistency unless the forgotten king was from a particularly long-lived race and was already 300+ years old when Ermor fell.
>>
>>161838103
Sceleria and Ermor did co-exist before Cataclysm in civil war and it might have taken a good while for Emperor's brother and other officials to heed the warnings of Thaumaturgs before they started their revolt. But now that I think about it, it's very unlikely those events took that long. Looks like this approach doesn't result in internally consistent results after all (supposing Forgotten King was a human without magically extended lifespan at least).

>MA Agartha has no ranged units aside from one or two rock throwers
In what formation do I put these dudes in formation if they're all infantry? Usually I put almost everyone to double lines, with of course archers and commanders behind, infantry in the middle and meatshields at the front
>>
>>161840168
Your statues go into lines, everything else is in boxes so that they can be buffed
>>
>>161840168
Another question, I got assigned a cave province obviously, but it connects only to two other provinces
Does that mean I will only get resources from those two?
>>
>>161840524
yep. Luckily, Agartha's strength is in their summons, so resources don't matter as much to them. Magma children are great, Shard Guards are great, sentinels are great, marble oracles are amazing Super Combatant chassis, Golem Crafters are amazing evospammers, Olms are awesome, Oracles of the Ancients are primo buffers and earthquake spammers and you can pretty easily stealthily raid in late game with Umbrals and shademail haubergeon equipped Oracles
>>
>>161840523
>Your statues
my what?

>>161840873
>yep. Luckily, Agartha's strength is in their summons
Cool, I really like Conjuration
>>
>>161840873
More in depth:
Magma Children are mindless, ethereal, heat auraed, 2 fire gems for 5, accessible at conjuration 3 and AP attackers
Shard Guards are the only recruitable sacreds you want, because they have a magic attack, which is useful against things like ethereal troops, and are pretty good with an N9 bless, which suits statues too. Quick note on blesses, you want N9Ex, N9E9 is very good for statues, but your scales will suffer. If it's a small game, go for it, but in a larger game you want more mages. You can go for standard N9 even
Sentinels are accessible at Enchantment 3, 3 earth gems for 1, lifeless, sacred, high prot, damage resistant, pretty good stats. These are your statues. There are also Attentive Statues which are shit and useful only as chump blockers and Granite Guards which are good but FUCK expensive (12 earth gems each good god)
Marble Oracles are statue commanders and H2 priests. They kick ass for all the same reason as sentinels, but even more. Pricey at 35 earth gems, but they don't need much gear to become incredibly killy.
Olm Conclave is a 20 water gem spell that summons a W2E1 mindblaster who comes with 10 mindblasters
Your recruitable mages are deep earth casters, so the usual Blade Winds, Magma Eruptions, Earthquakes and the whole gamut of buffs in that path, and between oracles and golem crafters they can cast any of your summons.
Umbrals are 2 death gems per, stealthy and Good Combatants
>>
>>161841354
>my what?
The main units of Agartha that are the primary reason anyone plays them.
>>
>>161842362
Magma children are not ethereal.
N9E9 makes statues 'ard as hell, but I would also consider a B9 for extra killiniess.
>>
>>161842930
>tribless

>>
>>161842930
>B9 for extra killiniess.

>>
>>161842362
>Ex

>>
>>161842362
>>161842930
>>161841354

N9 mono is fine with no E bless, N9B9 is fine, even B9 mono is fine (less useful against generic enemies, more useful against evocation and certain other things that usually are used to answer statues).

One of the big reasons to take N9 is that statues don't heal naturally outside of a lab, and they can't be buffed with regen spells on account of being lifeless. Add to that their high hp pool and impressive prot, and they usually die to mundane opponents only after being chipped down. N9's regeneration essentially turns this off, changing fights from causing a little attrition to causing none. N9 is also excellent with Marble Oracles, which usually want regeneration even more since they can't get it from equipment (unlike most other SCs). It does not, however, answer stuff that actually does murder statues, like AN evocation spam and some elementals, whereas B9 will cause damage to makes that try to blast them. E9, meanwhile, just adds to their already high prot, making many attacks that would've caused 1-2 damage to not even scratch them. Like N9, it doesn't help against things that would normally pound through your statues and unlike N9 they can still be chipped down by things with mauls or hammers. The real advantage to E9 is the access to Earth Blood Deep Well to fund your statue summoning and the fact that you have a giant mage to summon the statues in bulk in the late game. In general, you want to take E9 with an N9 bless and a statue strategy in mind rather than on its own.

It's also perfectly all right to run Agartha with no bless at all. Their mages are expensive, and even with no bless they have a wide toolkit and efficient national summons in F, E, D, and W. That said, N9 provides a ubiquitous advantage to the point that it's almost always worth the design points. B9 and E9 are more up to personal taste and plans for using them for late game magic or as a specific answer to Caelum.

>>
>>161844235
>not having all your mages cast summon earthpower on the first turn anyway
>not wearing earth boots
I really don't see the point of earth as a bless.
>>
>>161844223
Golems do benefit from Agartha's dominion, but they're talking about Agartha's unique statue summons. They're in enchantment, not conjuration, because they're just enchanting stuff that's already there.
>>
>>161843673
>>161844325
Cheapest N9 chassis comes with E, so taking a minor bless in it is cheap. Taking E5 or more lets you cast EBDW (tons of earth gem income for more statues) and gives more efficient casting of Hall of Statues, by far the best way to mass Sentinels.

>>161843726
>It's also perfectly all right to run Agartha with no bless at all.
It's possible and you might even win, but it's not a good plan.
>>
>>161846362
Those are reasons to take earth and have it as an incidental (having it alongside blood is also good due to blood stones) but not reasons for the bless, which was the basis on which folks had been arguing it.
>>
>>161846549
Considering that E4 is pretty rare on Oracles, which are more valuable as battle mages rather than ritual mages, having high earth on your pretender is easily done and valuable. Reinvig on mages is useful, because in conjunction with summon earthpower, they can be even more spammy. Having 10 Horde of Skeletons in a battle rather than 6 or so is a lot more useful.
>>
>>161847023
>Considering that E4 is pretty rare on Oracles, which are more valuable as battle mages rather than ritual mages
This is still not related to the bless.
>>
>>161847315

Dude all your mages are Sacred, earth minor has a use.
>>
>>161847427
No, I'm being specific. If you're gonna explain something to people asking a question, explain it right.
>>
>>161846549
Are you arguing the bless is worthless? I figured you were saying it wasn't worth the cost, hence why I pointed out cheapness and how earth magic gives other benefits.

2 reinvig is definitely useful on your sacred mages (i.e. all of them). So what if you can get 4 from summon earthpower? They stack, so with the bless you have 6 reinvig instead of 4.

While Sentinels do not get fatigued by fighting and therefore get no benefit from an earth minor bless, they are not your only sacred units. Shard Guards will make up a significant part of your forces, especially earlygame, and E5 will improve their fighting ability cheaply.

>>161847023
I hope you just confused MA and LA Agartha, rather than you using 400g cap-only mages to skellyspam.
>>
>>161835516
His VA is one of the best I've heard desu
>>
>>161847747
I'm arguing that blessing your statues is not the reason to take Ex as MA Agartha, which is what was originally presented as though it were obvious. Since goalposts were moved, I'm now also arguing that blessing your mages is comparatively much less important, for a nation that has earth boots and summon earthpower. Taking a high level of E is handy for reasons pertaining to spell use, and taking a moderate level of E has benefits since it's cheap anyway, and is great if you're also taking B. But the bless is incidental in this case. It's a design element that you can (and usually should) add to the blessed statue plan, not a part of it.
>>
>>161848278
>I'm arguing that blessing your statues is not the reason to take Ex as MA Agartha
You're arguing against something nobody actually said (apart from N9E9, which does give significant benefits to statues).

No goalposts have been moved.

Furthermore, any nation with Water magic likely has Earth, too; few nations (off the top of my head: Mictlan, Pythium, Sauromatia, MA Caelum) have significant Water magic without at least recruitable E2 too.

Looking at some events in the inspector, what do the various "target order" numbers refer to? I'm guessing they refer to various commander actions like patrolling, preaching ,searching etc, but I don't know which is which.

They refer to specific story-event actions (eg - Attack, Investigate, Diplomacy, etc)
>>
What are some tanky commanders you can summon to lead troops to soak rain of stones spam as Tian Chi?
>>
>>161857842
Most recruitable commanders can tank RoS fine. It's also probably cheaper to forge armor of knights and put it on your mage than it is to summon up a whole new sleeper if you need magic leadership for living mercuries/green lions/whathaveyou. This also lets you bring that mage to the fight.
>>
>>161857842

What you can get access to depends on the age, but in general: E - Troll Kings, N - Sleepers, D - Bane Lords, W - Sea Kings. F, A, and S don't really have worthwhile summonable commanders capable of leading massed troops. I mean, there are Ether Lords I guess, but they're way too pricey.

>>161870535
They are not stealthed when researching.
>>
>>161870724

Are you sure? I was pretty sure Members of the Second Tier for LA Ulm were, but perhaps that's a unique thing for their Illuminati researchers.
>>

Try it.
>>
>>161871934
I am sure, I'm Vanilla-rus in a game.
>>
>>161871934
It isn't the case for illuminati researchers actually. If you know the raid is coming you can stealth them out, but if they're researching at the time they'll certainly be caught.

Do mute commanders have reduced boosts from communion slaves? Like, does an S1 com master have only S2 with 4 com slaves, or does he have 3 as normal?

So I've tried the AI after a bunch of months without playing and it seems way less bad. Do they actually patch this?

Yes.

They consistently release new content as well.

moon blade and frozen heart work (frozen heart only if 0 frost resist which is unusual if they expect you to do this). Control and shatter have really low range and it's not going to work at all.

E9N9 any good on LA Agartha? What sort of pretender/scales would I run with it - because that's a lotta points.

wew, you should be glad I'm a lazy piece of shit
>>
>>161885175
Or maybe you should do your turns earlier, you lazy piece of shit.
>>
>>161884674
Not really. Blindfighters are very expensive, both in gold and resources, and you won't have good enough scales to mass-recruit them if you take a double bless. N9Ex is nice for Tomb Oracles, but not necessary, since they can get regen/reinvig from Soul Vortex. Instead, consider taking a pretender able to cast Earth Blood Deep Well and/or Well of Misery - those are pretty important for LA Agartha and quite difficult to cast otherwise.
>>
RIP lil rudra you did what you could

What about sepulchars?
>>
>>161883502
Oh, my bad.
What an ambiguous tag, isn't it?
>>
>>161886959
Not sure if they're worth it. Remember you can get twice as many Umbrals for the same price.
>>
>>161884674
I wonnered a game with it, but it had +resource settings. I think N9E4Sx monolith is better in normal settings, since you want prod normally.

>>161886874
Soul Vortex is deep in alt, and while you want to go there anyways, it's often worth deploying tomb oracles as SCs before then if you have the cons/conj research to make and gear them. N9Ex lets you do that more easily.

The big E/D build is totally fine and workable, but it gives you a weaker early game than a big bless. I also think that Agartha is heavily reliant on snowballing given its lack of wide blood access in LA. If you can find blood indies then you can be okay for scaling, but if not then playing to the point in the game where you can put up globals rather than playing to be winning or on the cusp of winning by the time you reach that point seems bad to me.

>>161886959
They're neat. They're a bit easier to counter than MA's statues, but still very durable and capable of holding unprepared armies in place. Unfortunately, you already want to deploy anti-undead stuff to fight Agartha, which means that whoever is fighting you is likely to already have the tools in place to handle them.
>>
>>161886874
>>161887538
Thank you both. That's what I was thinking too, but remember someone had mentioned it the other day and tried to take it into practice against AI and was not very thrilled with the sacrifices needed to take a duobless.

What sort of SCAAAALES pretender should I use for Bogarus? Is this pretty lady okay?
>>
>>161889305
Take an awake or you'll wish you had.
>>
>>161889371
Which awake would you recommend? I know the troops are garbage, and I can make at least 11 provinces by end of year 1 with a fort and one building.
>>
>>161889371
Celestial gryph
>>
>>161889420
You can get ELEVEN provinces? A reliable awake expander will take that many BY ITSELF. If you're really getting that few provinces, an awake would literally DOUBLE your size.

To answer your question, tho - ormr is good.
>>
>>161889562
I dunno, in practice it seems I can never get that many provinces with an awake expander. He'll inevitably have to fight heavy cav or have to double back because of enemy borders, and 11 is one per turn minus the first turn. And doubling back usually takes more than one turn, if you're blind-expanding on the first turn.

And this is LA, where heavy cav is much more frequent.
>>
>>161889562
>>161889728
Is there any trick I'm missing to get 11 provinces in the first year with an ormr?
>>
>>161890297
Nevermind, I did 12 in the first year, though he ended up with 5 afflictions and it was very risky.

Just a friendly message to let anyone who doesnt already know not to hire any mercs that look like a necrotect because they are bugged and useless.
