He never does that except in this case.

I fucking hate when Masters get involved in a Servant's battle outside of support. I'm glad Nasu dropped that shit in other works. UBW route was the definition of cancerous Master fighting Servant shit and getting away with it I fucking hate it. Not just Shirou, but also Rin and Kuzuki. It was just completely out of place now in Fate franchise where Masters stay behind Servants like they should. Or fight other Masters.

The endings were pretty bad too. That's why Nasu had to rewrite it for the anime. Originally, it lacked any actual touching sense of conclusion than HF or Fate endings did.

Fate/Zero was released in 2006. The adaption was just animating the source material, not a new entry. CCC isn't bad and it's better then Extra but not good enough to beat the original or reverse the downwards trend.

2017(?) - Heaven's Feel movie - part of the advertising scheme for Grand Order that started with UBW TV, quality unknown. Even if its good, Heaven's Feel cannot stand on its own as a complete product without the other 2 routes.

Prisma Illya is a spinoff that's 60-70% fate fanservice and 30-40% mahou loli fanservice. You can watch it standalone, and it'll still sort of work, but knowledge of the main series is highly recommended

A few characters like Gilgamesh really went over the place based on the route you were in (compare him in Fate and UBW to see what I mean) in the original, and was really only 'fixed' in Zero when Nasu liked how Uro developed him and adopted those ideas into Fate Extra & CCC.

While Zero doesn't have the fun stuff from Day 15 & 16, it's still got plenty of fights that I imagine are written as stellar as the sample passages I've checked out. It's just a more solid work overall from quite a few angles, even though I might hold more emotional attachment to a work like FSN.

Fate/Zero has some issues with pacing (they rush a couple of episodes), but they are pretty damn good and they will be more popular than FSN anime ever will be. That's why it gets a re-run when that's really weird. All changes were explained and chosen by Butcher too, like why Enkidu flashback had to be removed, and why they chose to portray Kotomine in that manner. They had an actual sense of direction of "how to translate things on screen" which isn't copy/pasting from a page.

The Shirou we got in ufotable's UBW was not so far off from Fate's, when in the novel he was nearly different from his dumb-ass self in Fate. It was a "yeah, my ideas are stupid, but I'll work towards it in a way that makes sense". Not "yeah, my ideas are stupid, and I didn't learn anything from my Iraq PTSD flashbacks, so I'm going to leave the Clock Tower and drag Rin along with me so she can watch me drown in my ideals, which kinda suck, but are worth fighting for.
