Atlus just doesn't handle LGBT well or seemingly care about it. I think that was largely misinterpretation of Atlus' intentions with the characters The focus was to address strict gender roles in Japanese society. Naoto wanted to be a guy because that meant she could get respect in the workplace, whereas Kanji was afraid of feminine shit because of the negative connotations. Each of them game to accept themselves at the end of the game. This totally went to shit when the game hit the west because despite Atlus' good intentions, some of the writing was homophobic and trans people didn't like being told Naoto was actually a girl, yeah.

I'm not entirely sure about that. Even after he seemingly kills Potter himself he still tries to play it so Shido won't make a move against the rest of them until, in his mind he'll already have been disgraced.

I beat P5 no problem without knowing a single word of japanese using nothing but my godlike autist memory and occasionally rewatching part of a Tofu stream, and I still enjoyed the fuck out of it even if I still prefer P4

I feel like breaking this down atm seeing how there's often a great bias on this topic.

Velvet UI is easy, so are the facilities in the city with the exception of the florist job which would be a crapshoot if you can't read.

Iwai's shop is easy since weapons and armor are all numbers focused and there's no gathering certain materials for new weapons to show up. Clinic is easy as well because of HP/SP labels and percent signs equal revival items. General shops are also all easy since everything in this game has icons next to the names, books, hardware, weapons and clothes are all clearly marked, and the only time you'd ever have to read anything is for gifts that simply have the shopping bag as the icon, which are superfluous in P5 anyway.

You wouldn't be able to understand coops, though it's still easy to look up the best choices online which you'd be doing anyway even if you could read.

In battle, negotiations are also out, but they rarely fail in this game. You'll know what class each skill belongs to because of pictures, but you'll need a phone for passives. Mementos missions that aren't automatic or coop related you'd have to look up online.

Story progression is nearly mindless. Pressing nothing but circle through every scene will get you to the true end. It's pretty easy to understand what's going on just based on what's happening on screen too, with Yusuke's arc and part of Futaba's story that isn't addressed till later in the game as the exceptions.

Dungeon progression is easy too, and the only puzzle in the entire game that requires you know Japanese is the one in Kamoshida's study. There's a sequence in Haru's dungeon where reading dialogue makes things easier, but isn't mandatory and only cuts a couple of fights out. Everything else is built on numbers and English letters.

You don't have to actually do any Mementos stuff before getting to the end of the game, the only quests you have to clear to make it deeper into the dungeon are the ones Yuki texts you about and those never expire. The game forces you to go through any of those quests left undone on the last day and you can't leave.
