i took them down without significant injuries on my first commander playthrough since the dlc went live, before that i had a long break.
imo above all else i was extremely lucky to always battle scan them somewhere in the fow and i still had the freedom of no active pods(tm) to overwatch trap them hard.
Another thing that prolly helped was me delaying the vahlen missions until t3 armor and weapons, so i guess i had an advantage in firepower too.

But still, the fucking reactions after EVERY SINGLE MOVE is bretty goddamn annoying. Fucking cheating ayys

original responder here, let me explain what ayy hunters is

You get 3 boss ayyliens, each with more and more health, and strong abilities, like freezing your soldiers, AOE stuns etc.
And they get a move every time you take a non-free action.
Free actions include shit like: hair trigger shots, axe throw, reaction shots provided ogrewatch was setup before activating the ruler.
They are meant to be bosses, hard to defeat, and this is why people whine, they're not used to difficulty in XCOM that just goes in dry and doesn't tell you to bite the pillow.

Thing is, you can put off the rulers until you have plasma/power armor tier shit, and you can cheese them easily by simply using the fucking battle scanners to find the pod before triggering, setting up an ogrewatch with everyone buy 1 guy whose job is to activate the pod, and bring them into the firing line. And the game gives you equipment to deal with them. Freeze grenades, stun crossbow, free shot (once) pistol, and free axe throw (once as well), on top of base game shit like stasis.
I think they also take damage from acid/fire every move, but I'm not sure
It is challenging, but it's not nearly as broken as people make it seem everywhere, so it really is 99% scrubs who can't git fucking gud
>>161405245
No
>>
>>161405287
I think that 99% of bad reviews are people who rushed in because they heard Dr. Vahlen's sweet, tempting cute accented voice and got assraped by a million snakes, and when they finally got through all that, they got assraped by a blue sausage, and when they finally got through that they got continuously assraped every single mission until they finally managed to kill it.
>>
>>161404465
so the standard xcom game is turn base yeah? you take a turn then the ayys take theirs.
ayy rulers make an action when every you make a move in your turn,
>reload
>ruler shoots your man dead
>shoot ruler
>ruler strangles you
>shot ruler to stop strangle
>miss lel
>strangle damage
>miss lel
>strangle damage
>ALIEN ACTIVITY
I breaks the core mechanic of the game, I got through them save scumming like a mother fucker. Are they interesting? fuck yes. Are they a bullshit thing to fight? double yes. Do they make me want to genocide all ayys down to dust and glass their planets? triple yes.

Anons, XCOM2 is a great game, but it is nowhere near the level of LW.

I was wondering why that is?

1. Is it because of lack of weapon/armor tiers? Ballistic -> Mag -> plasma makes it seem your progression ends very fast. LW gives you Ballisitc -> Laser -> Gauss -> Advanced Laser -> Plasma. Similarly with armors.

2. Shallow strategic layer? Granted nobody misses the total RNG fest that is the air game, but country and continental bonuses in LW are game-changing, whereas strategic bonuses in XCOM2 are more or less "meh"

3. Mission timers that force the aggressive style in XCOM2? Whereas in LW, yes, there are soft timer in the form of Meld containers, but those are mere bonuses, rewards for aggressive plays. Whereas if you don't play aggressively in XCOM2 you WILL fail missions left and right and not being able to counter certain dark events are just brutal.

4. Enemy scaling? Pretty self-explanatory here. Alien research and scaling in LW makes that your ace team don't just utterly steam roll over the end game and turn it into snoozefest.

5. Overall abilities, skills that punish thoughtful, methodical play, ties back to point #3. Suppression in XCOM2 is abysmally bad. Flashbang, though having larger AoE, is significantly weaker than its counterpart in LW. Smoke -- no dense smoke perk or upgrade available, wasted item slot. High cover doesn't give 1 DR (though can be fixed with 1 mod) etc.

What are your thoughts?

X2 is the "streamlined" experience, concealement and timer make it faster paced, but at the end of the day you have less strategic choice

EW+LW is slower but got a better strategic feel and balance, you dont feel pressured to end the encounter in 1 turn

What X2 did absolutely right was customization and procedural map, I dont think I could enjoy EW after that

Where's that headpiece from, anon? That dude is looking amazing

Also, this fucking guy. Headcanon'd him as a FCO when making the charpool, and come hell or high water he would carry my doomed from the get-go campaign in which I made an attempt at replicating an Escalation for LW-like balance. He cheated death more times than I'd care to count until finally being swarmed by a six muton pod who were reinforcing from a psi-portal coming in on his beaten up squad from the flank, whilst they were still busy trying to sort out a MEC pod up front. Five out of the eight soldiers deployed died on that mission, the remaining three were wounded.

It was one of those brutal Additional Missions-mod eliminate ADVENT VIP on PR tour mission, and they did technically win it but it broke the back of the campaign and the whole thing was eventually ground to dust by pure attrition on losing 90% of the veterans. It seemed fitting that the whole thing went down shitter after he died, somehow.

Anon, by the time the really dangerous LW-baddies start showing up it's fairly easy to deal with them. There is no way you will ever see a Muton nor a HFloater oneshot one of your guys unless you're an idiot who sticks carapaced troopers in halfcover against them.

Now there's a thought. What do you think the different ayys' homeworlds look like?

Ethereal: I'm thinking Earth-like. Oceans, many different biomes, lots of biodiversity. Extensively terraformed. Vast cities of glittering spires.

Sectoids: Temperate, possibly Earth-like. Strong gravity.

Vipers/Thin men: Arid/desert. Hot and dry, with mesas and canyons.

Mutons: Tropical jungles with extremely hostile wildlife. Tribal societies spread across smaller villages.

Berzerkers: Same as Mutons, obviously.

Floaters/Archons: Same as Mutons, possibly a weaker sub-species. Extensively modified and mutated from its natural form.

Chryssalids: Same as Mutons. The Mutons used to hunt 'lids for sport.

Outsiders/Codices: As energy beings, they were naturally occuring inside some giant nebula or gas cloud. The Ethereals gave them the ability to take solid form.

Not sure about the Andromedons, Faceless and Gatekeepers.

I think both games are equal in total.
One thing EU/EW does better is the density of cover on maps.

See how you can reach several cover spots with your soldiers in xcom 2 without having to worry about your squad positioning?
You can basically take any spot and watch across the whole map and flee if you need (as far as your LOS is to the max).

In EW you have to think a bit more about the spots you take (Can all my soldiers see what's going on if something is in a 45 degree angle behind the wall? Is the second car blocking the LOS of half of my squad? Do I have an escape route if I get trapped in the corner between the car and the trash can? Is it worth put one of my soldiers into the house, which hides him/her or do I risk to reveal any pods that open the door?)

Nobody would ever talk half cover tho, but it's the same with the full cover layout, it's just harder to put it in one picture.

Or maybe I'm just deluded because I learned every pod spawn and the maps in EW by heart and how to execute my strategies on said maps based on the cover layout.
>>
>tfw just cheesed the fuck out of avenger defense with meme beacons
>>
>>161426692
But they aren't built for it at all, with their scrawny limbs and oversized head.
More likely the Ethereals just cooked them up from scratch, like some zerg sea-slug.

Also, Floaters/archons were modified mutons, canon. And I very much doubt the aliens 'found' the 'energy beings', rather creating them.
Andros look like modified Sectoids.
Faceless is another constructed creature.

>>161427262

Good points.
>>
>>161427048

I think the reason X2 has more cover is because it gets blown up more easily.

It's nice to do it before the first supply drop to minimize stun lancers.

If you take the left hand approach to the site there's a nice patch of full cover trees to fight from, then a cliff to get the drop on the mec pod, finally you can just blow up the back wall and grab the vial.

Sup /xcg/, Why is EW:LW so much more satisfying that XCOM2? Even bagels seems to be reverting back to EW:LW.

It's not complexity, because that's the tedious part, and it's not difficulty, because that's the magnificent part. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Also, any inside info on whether there will be a Long War 2? Can't find any info on the website.

Moments before, the battlefield was uncommonly quiet- having wiped out the bulk of the enemy forces & weathered a couple burrowed lid ambushes, the squad smoothly pressed forward as the fires crackled away and resistance members huddled in their corners.
The main compound looming ahead was dark & silent. There were survivors everywhere, yet no sign of xenos- no plasma cracks or shrieks on the wind. No fresh corpses. Just muffled sobs & rustling ahead of their staggered approach.

>>
>>161450232
LWS didn't have to sell the game, so they could focus on a more narrow audience, the more hardcore gamers who don't mind the ball breaking difficulty of long war. Meanwhile Firaxis has to sell the game, so they have to try and cater to everyone and that shows.
>>
>>161467149

from wiki

A Floater autopsy hints that they may be the invaders' incomplete cybernetic and genetic experiments. They have received extensive mechanical implants, including ones that replace the internal organs. Due to its modifications, there is no distinguishing line between mechanical and biological to describe the Floater. When a Muton Autopsy is complete, Dr. Vahlen noted the similarities between the genetic structure of the Muton and the Floater, lending credence of the alien's experimental speculation. According to the Uber Ethereal, the Floaters were cybernetically modified using Meld after "their organic forms failed to evolve" and the modifications reduced their intelligence, turning them into mindless killing machines.

The Archon's appearance substantially differs from its grotesque Floater predecessor in order to reduce the negative response from humans. The visual design of the Archon is based on the Egyptian gods, featuring ornate gold armor, a wreath-like design for its levitation jets and a muscular physique. As an ADVENT unit, its pointed gold helmet covers its eyes and nose. It possesses more regal, refined movements than the spastic Floater, particularly while flying.

While the Floater was an aerial scout unit, the Archon has been refined and improved to the level of a battlefield commander or captain. This is potentially due to both its new status as a godlike figure of authority to humans (and, for appearance's sake, ADVENT soldiers) and its significantly improved abilities.

This might come as a surprise to you, but not everyone on the pc is hardcore. Most of the games that were played on PC were on veteran, and more people played rookie games than the combined total of legendary and commander difficulty. Casuals exist everywhere.

Thinking about it, I have never had a ranger with a decent AWC perk, or at least not one I knew how to take advantage of.

Like right now I have Rangers with Killzone, Rupture, and Aim. The only one that could be maybe useful is Killzone but I can't really make use of it if I want that ranger to stay concealed for scouting or need to start a fight with Rapid-Fire on a Codex or something.

Then again, I can't go through a campaign without getting Death From Above, Rapid Fire, and Killzone on my Grenadiers, which is fantastic.

If i win the mission but i take casualties like my best soldier, i still ride it to the bitter end and stick with it, but fuck losing 20 hours of progress.

I still recall when my big bro let me play UFO Defense back then, 1 entire fucking summer went by playing UFO because i kept losing for stupid reasons or squad wipes.

I dont even recall if i ever beat Terror From The Deep as a teen because of how bullshit you could snowball your way to losing the whole game.

When Enemy Unknown came out, i bought that shit day one and played it on Classic Ironman and beat it, but i only cheated once where if i lost that sniper i would have lost the mission and thus the country with the panic worldwilde and my lack of satellites would bite my ass too hard.

Fuck doing that all over again, i dont have that kind of time to spent anymore.

I think you can go a little farther than that, depending on what you're doing.

Pic related is from an older modded campaign, before the proper EXALT clothes were released. I decided to improvise a bit and make a more militant, resistance-style EXALT.

fan theory
>>
So are sneks, thinmen and faceless the same species ?
>>
>>161494829
In the game during one of the story research projects it says that the chip embedded in the commander was forcing him to run through countless tactics simulations. Based on the fact that XCOM2 is the sequel to a very quick failure in XCOM EU, people believe that all other instances of the game were simulations the Commander was going through
>>
>>161494829
Tutorial mission. In the tutorial mission it's revealed the commander is hooked up to a huge simulation program basically that helps develop tactics for ADVENT troopers. The fan theory part is that your campaings in EU/EW are those simulations in the X2 timeline.
>>
>>161495151
I don't think so. IIRC Vahlen says thin men had trouble hiding their eyes, whereas I think faceless' shapeshifting is perfect. I think vipers/thinmen(and snakemen maybe) have certain degree to shapeshifting but not as good as Faceless. Also I don't think Faceless have any reptilian features. You might want to read their autopsy reports, Tygan might say something useful about that
>>
>>161495307
Doesn't Bradford have a line somewhere that says something along the lines of "the ADVENT soldiers got a lot less combat proficient when the Commander was removed from the program?"
>>
>>161495250
>>161495307
>>161494936
I know that tutorial says they were using Commander and running simulations, but nothing that clearly says EU/EW were the simulations. Like one of the posts said EXALT was actually the anti alien society, but commander helped aliens/ADVENT annihilate them. All of these are fan theories then?

What I'd love to see are those "Thin Man spots" the EXALT have as face paint/tattoo in XCOM 2. You can see that their eyes are pretty snake:y as well!

The clips the game shows during the part where it's explained how the commander was used shows clips from EU/EW and that's basically everything this theory is based on.

But so is a close-range rapid fire with a shotgun, and it's guaranteed to do more damage, use less ammo, is more likely to get a kill (for implacable) and has no cooldown.

I think that beats out the slightly harder single hit and +3 to subsequent damage.

Maybe if Rupture only used one ammo, then you could combo it with the Bolt Gun for some pretty crazy damage.

Do you have Slingshot DLC activated while you're playing Long War? I've never played Slingshot on Long War before, always just ticked the DLCs off. But this time I thought I might as well try them on. Now I'm playing on Casual and I genuinely thought that the first Slingshot mission was about as diffuclt as it is in vanilla (Well obviously Long Dong is a bit harder, but how bad could it be). So I dropped 2 rookies and 4 fucking corporals thinking I would do fine. Holy shit did I get my ass raped. The mission itself has two fucking dozen Thin Men that activate all at the same time on about turn two and it doesn't help when additional fucking Thin Men keep raining down from the sky as if God was having explosive AYY-diarrhéa.

the old chryssalid was the grinning alien from alien. it had the same killing capacity and was even more terrifying. 125 tus, aimed rape at 15 tu cost, carapace that can take 5 or 6 laser shots and god help you if it was nighttime. a single chryssalid that wasn't contained, located, and thoroughly shot to pieces could've easily wiped your entire strike team. also every civilian was, essentially, another chryssalid combined with a score penalty. chryssalid was the mascot of xcom, perfectly defining how punishing the game was.

then we got the eu chryssalid. it wasn't nearly as threatening, mainly serving as the redshirt terror unit once you got your lasers, but it could still multiply through civilians and two-shot people.

then came this game. now chryssalids have less health and damage output than a viper. and they only just start spawning when you already have plasma. they don't have the numbers and don't even care for civies.

what the fuck?

Though they're pro-human, they want to take over the world and use ayy tech to uplift humanity.

XCOM would not be okay with them taking over the world.

Honestly it was probably some enormous misunderstanding. The council paints them as ayy sympathizers if I remember correctly.

>Is there a way to avoid doing Shen Last Gift tower bullshit and be able to do a SPARK unit?
Don't enable the mission at campaign start. You'll have a Proving Grounds project that gives you a SPARK and lets you construct additional ones.

>Fuck it i wont even enable the stupid bullshit of Alien Hunters.
About that, you might wanna enable the mission itself since they won't start showing up until after you do it or just git gud

>>161534784
From my point of view, it just how bullshit it gets in Legendary/Ironmeme.

If you want to have a good camping, you need to be flawless in Gatecrasher and you have no leverage to do that.

You have 4 rookies, no smoke, no flashbang, no preparation. Its you vs the RNG in the purest form.

Why do i say You vs RNG? Because if you dont have some building that provides high ground to get that height bonus, your shot will most likely not hit the fuckers because you are a rookie.

After trying the mission so many times, it gets tiring, its possible to have a good camping if you get one soldier wounded?
Yes, but for the bullshit that awaits you, you really want that optimal squad for the first month or so.

And so here i go again, time to remove ayyys.

>>
>>161540361
>first 4 bonuses were re-usable mods/pcs's, 50% higher selling prices, 33% less buying prices, and 25% more intel.
It's been swell.

>>
>>161540361
>>161540556
See the black market is actually good in X2. They try to have a bunch of things that are "random," but all it amounts to is that you can't make any strategic decisions yourself.

I'd scrap random item results, make the items more expensive to compensate, re-introduce set starting bonuses and connections (also based on starting locations), keep the random connections and starting continent bonus as a sort of second wave option.

With the final death of the the of avenger's A-team and the last remaining member being evacd out and in the hospital for a month, the resistance was worn down to a bloody nub and eventually neutralized. The avenger was recaptured and broken down into scrap. Bradford and shen were reduced into soup. tygan was interrogated and tortured before being brainwashed, re-implanted and reintegrated into society. The deeds of Xcom are lost to the annals of history and forgotten entirely.

It's called tradition. It's humanity hanging onto their heritage that the aliens are actively trying to destroy by imposing their own government, language, and all around culture.

It actually makes lots of sense and is in some ways a more significant detail than in previous games, at least in a symbolic way. The flags before were a way to show a unified global effort to fight ayys.

And that's why you can recommend it. Grinding for the final dungeon will make you tear your hair out because each hero can only run it once even if you suceed so you need to grind up a new team every single time
>>
>>161573792
I guess it just never bothered me. I bought the game pre-release, so it probably colors my perspective, but I enjoy just starting up campaigns time to time and beating through the familiar and new content.

>grind up a new team every single time
When I play I'm always grinding everyone equally, so this wouldn't be an issue for me personally, or at least I don't think it would.
I suppose I just think it's worth the money, decent endgame or not.
>>
>>161574046
You need to run the final dungeon 4 times. that four complete teams you need to grind out. After I finished the first quest I just said "fuck it", there's only so much grindy bullshit I am willing to deal with.

Breen would win by a landslide. The guy is probably my favorite villain of all time, playing through Half Life 2 again with a bit more attention to detail rather than being wowed by the physics engine the holocom speeches were my favorite part of the game. Dude really had a talent for making you second guess Freemans methods at times. When he's giving a speech to the "human" arm of the Combine is probably my favorite thing in the game.

>"This is not some agent provocateur or highly trained assassin we are discussing. Gordon Freeman is a theoretical physicist who had hardly earned the distinction of his Ph.D. at the time of the Black Mesa Incident. I have good reason to believe that in the intervening years, he was in a state that precluded further development of covert skills. The man you have consistently failed to slow, let alone capture, is by all standards simply that--an ordinary man. How can you have failed to apprehend him?

Now is the moment to redeem yourselves. If the transhuman forces are to prove themselves an indispensable augmentation to the Combine Overwatch, they will have to earn the privilege. I'm sure I don't have to remind you that the alternative, if you can call it that, is total extinction - in union with all the other unworthy branches of the species. Let's not allow it to come to that. I have done my best to convince Our Benefactors that you are the finest the species has to offer. So far they have accepted my argument, but without concrete evidence to back it up, my words sound increasingly hollow even to me. The burden of proof is on you. As is the consequence of failure. I'll just leave it at that."

Almost finished another weapon, well, not really almost, the attachments aren't done. The textures need some fixing too, i think right now it looks too "dirty" but that should be easy to fix. It took me a long time to try and mimic the textures that Firaxis made for the conventional weapons, i never really noticed in-game but they are ridiculously detailed, especially when compared to the textures of the magnetic and plasma weapons.

If you saw that weird Advent Weapon i posted before, this one is the conventional version Xcom gets of that weapon.

I am one of those /k/ fags.
Mag's in a weird spot again but it looks plausible this time & otherwise the shooter fits the aesthetic.
Nice gun, looks like a steyr derivative.

Still though, the mag would get in the way all the time.
Might I suggest:
Make it a box-mag that pulls a 120-degree turn & hugs the side of the gun, reducing the side profile & letting the solders carry it normally instead of at arms-length.

Spoilering so you don't have to read my shit if you don't want to.

My very first EU campaign.

>While already engaged with a pod of aliens, the squad encounters a sectoid commander and the first elite mutons of the campaign
>Jiang Li "Kitty" Mao and one of my gunners catches a plasma grenade, disintegrating their cover and most of their armor.
>A Mind-Controlled squadmate finishes her off with a blast from his plasma rifle.
>She's bleeding out and as the squad's medic she's the only one with the ability to help her.
>The rest of the squad goes nuclear, employing every high explosive option where deemed most fitting.
>Even Dr. Vahlen withholds her usual comments as the mission is completed in record time to get Kitty medevac moments before she would have exsanguinated.

One month Later...

>Very Large Landed UFO, Jiang Li's first mission since her near death experience
>Move through most of the ship without a hitch
>Engaged with a pod when the squad encounters another group of muton elites
>Manage to kill all but one, the surviving muton tosses a grenade
>Jiang Li is caught in the blast
>Her mind scrambles for a response, she opens fire
>Kills one of her squadmates outright.
>Mission is completed but not everyone gets to go home.
>Colonel Jiang Li Mao was honorably discharged October 7th 2015 after psychiatric evaluation determined she was no longer fit for duty.

And that's how I learned that soldiers can get hit with a hefty will penalty if they go down.

it's a pity soldiers cost so much and we don't have random stats on them. i love sorting people in ufo, issuing blue armor and lasgun to the unworthy, and then using them as reaction sponges.
>>
I'm really enjoying XCOM 2 but the geoscape is starting annoy the shit out of me.

>aliens add 3 bars to the Avatar project in a week
>go to make contact with a new region to get rid of their base
>2 seconds later
>terror mission
>fly to another sector
>fly back to get half a day into the same scan
>guerilla op
>it takes almost over a week to even complete the scan

I'm not feeling particularly challenged by this, its just fucking annoying.
>>
>>161614890
I am using the mod flawless that gives you a rookie or two when you save people in terror missions.

Then i am using LW Toolbox to have Not created equally, that gives each soldier different stats.

This rookie that died had 3 HP but a lot of aim, around ~70.

Actually, he had the classic UFO hairstyle, the old Enemy Unknown armor and it was colored blue.

It was the perfect match for XCOM.

timers are shit and need to fucking go. this all started when they experimented with timed meld. they though it turned out well. so we got timers on everything. in truth- timers should only be on timed loot and as an optional objective on terrors(civies rescue bonus). you could also put timers on reinforcements.

the way timers are done right now is extremely tilting, and they seem to only be there to prevent people from turtling overwatch. but the truth is- if someone's turtling overwatch they are shit at the game and having a terrible time. you are causing grief to your own retarded playerbase, and then retards name civilization with its dead ai game and babby gameplay game of the year.
>>
>>161615843
Timers are to give the game that pressure that ensures with guerrilla warfare.

But fuck that noise, i use this mod instead and is so much better.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=766511505

It removes timers, but instead when you are spotted, you have a limited window to do your objective, when i say limited, is because there are non-stop reinforcements coming for your ass.

Also you need to evac, you cant just kill everyone and mission accomplish, you need to call the skyranger in a no danger zone.

For me this is better than a timer
>>
>Put big fucking machineguns on the skyranger
>shoot people while you're loitering about the AO

well they fail. pressure? are you kidding me? you either know how to dispatch packs, or you don't. if you do you get 2 turns until evac, and in the late game you can manage like 6. if you don't you lose every mission and uninstall the game.

you know what an actual pressuse is? dropping into snakeman terror in fucking brazil during midnight. i would literally break sweat every time chryssalid showed up.

Fucking Stun Lancers. What kind of moron thought it was OK to have an early game enemy that runs across half the map and one hit kills your guys? I'm mad as fuck.

Fuck Vipers too. Run into a patrol of 3 of them, get three of your guys tongued, even if you get everyone free they're now out of position and probably fucked.

No I will not git gud, I will wallow in self-pity.

You talking about UFO Defense right?

Chryssalids i give you that, but you reach a point where you dont give a fuck about them because you have so much shit to throw at them, either killing civs with HE or using blaster bombs that you never really care.

Also they completely fucked up the whole Guerrilla Warfare aspect for those timers and strategy layer bullshit.

naturally. actually i don't use blaster bombs, i just rush psionics and mc everything by may, but the early game before you get to 8 100/100 psionic gods is amazing. every terror is hard as fuck, chryssalids are just the most terrifying unit. there are things in ufo that desperately need to be changed(unfun psi, unfun blaster, pointless airgame) but the underlying mechanic is so much better than the console garbage that the new xcom is. and even when they shout out how x2 is gonna be a pc exclusive we get those fucking console timers instead of tus.

>Ausfag of the squad spots a small advent squad moving towards there area, if he didn't do anything, the three hybrid team would have had the drop on Squad Leader (my operative avatar) and the two others inside the compound, so he takes a shot, killing one of the advent soldiers
>Big Sky for whatever reason became unavailable for 12 turns, and all of the skillfully avoided Advent Trooper teams were now alerted to my position
>Time for a siege, I had [me] get the Vip out and onto the roof in some cover in the middle, and positioned a fire-zone at the corners, with my sniper taking potshots down the street at any Advent getting ideas of flanking around.

>then a triple drop off the nearby street. Three Advent drop ships came in. It was after that turn big sky was available
>I immediately evac the injured rookie and VIP, since Rookie got a bunch of kills, but some of Menace 1-6 were so out of position that it would take a while for them to get there. Move me, Sniper, Ausfag, and the Squad Leader of 1-6 on the e.z., leaving 3 of 1-6 out of range of evac zone

SHUT THE FUCK UP KID. xenonauts did airgame right. which is incidentally the only thing it did right. airgame in ufo is fucking retarded, you rush 2 plasma beams and never again worry about anything. firestorm is ugly as ass, eats precious elerium and can't take a battleship on anyway. interface buttons do literally nothing. the airgame was trash.
>What is that supposed to mean?
do you remember the "hurr we're catering to pc gamers now" buzz that firaxis was spreading before the x2 release? well, guess what, they got rid of tus and gave us this shitty two action - one pack gayplay precisely because this is the only type of gameplay you can have on console controller that's held by a fucking retarded casual. so we got x2 which still has the mechanics dictated by console controller and this fucking enrages me.

What confuses me the most is that he's somehow surprised to learn the game has proxymines, or how certain items are unlocked.

Hasn't he been playing this game for a year? He's said he's beaten it before, so I'm not sure what's going on at the moment.
>>
>>161619749
Nice operation name.
And nah man, I mean, there's no point in removing people from the battlefield early. Better to just move them within range of the LZ & then hold those positions until the stragglers arrive.
Gives you more options if someone panics on the way.
>>
>>161620328
That was the plan, but having six advent troopers flanking you on a second story building made me give the early evac order
>>
>>161619871
>SHUT THE FUCK UP KID
rude
>airgame
It just needs some re-balancing, the underlying mechanics are very good (for example FMP and PirateZ have superior arirgames that are built off the same mechanics, just balanced better).
Also airgame absolutely serves a purpose and is integral part of the strategy layer. The freedom for the player to actually control their ships and do what they want with them is something missing from XCOM1 (and 2 of course). If you balance x-com air-game, it's goes from good to excellent.

>TUs vs. 2 action system
2 action system has pros and cons, as does a TU system. It's not a result of consoles, it's a result of Firaxis trying to streamline game-play for a wider audience (beyond consoles, just the current market). It creates different gameplay that I enjoy alongside TUs, it's not superior or make TUs obsolete in anyway.

>>161619871
Hating airgame is a meme which stems from Long War days here, anon. Of course you'd know that if you weren't this fucking new.

I want TUs back too, but I like how NuCOM turned out. LW is a case study in how 2 action turns can still lead to very engaging tactical gameplay
>>
>>161620430
i played xeno airgame and never want to see the original system ever again.
>It's not a result of consoles
yes it is. it's not about streamlining, what's there to streamline? tus were in every tactic we ever played, because they work naturally with mouse. you click your actions and pay for them from tu pool. but on gamepad you can't really play a tactic game. so they made the two turn system. and xcom actually plays better on gamepad, but the gameplay itself suffers.

it's like with mobile games- you can make an amazing mobile game, but it will still suck compared with computer games, because interface is so restricted. you can't have complexity if you don't have sufficient interface throughput.
>>
>>161620696
son, i played xcom first in the year 2007, when i came to 4chen and discovered the game on /tg/. now just shut up and go sit in the corner, and deal with the fact that airgame always sucked.

also new xcom is shit. SHIIIIIIIT! if you guys don't see how pack system restricts your play you are just not intelligent enough. instead of a broader strategy you just use the same abilities and find covers again and again each time you encounter a pack. it's not even a tactics game at this point, more like flanking clicker "find the best angle".
>>
>>161621115
> it's not about streamlining, what's there to streamline?
I have no idea what you mean here, a two action system means the gameplay is much faster and often (but not always) accomplishes the same thing.
I have told people how great x-com is and that if they enjoyed XCOM1 they should go back and try the game, but they just can't get into it. They feel like it's too clunky, too slow. For me I have trouble understanding that because I'm so familary with x-com controls that I can manipulate it to do what I want precisely and efficiently.
>and xcom actually plays better on gamepad, but the gameplay itself suffers.
No it doesn't. I'll never understand this.

>it's like with mobile games- you can make an amazing mobile game, but it will still suck compared with computer games, because interface is so restricted. you can't have complexity if you don't have sufficient interface throughput.
XCOM is an excellent game that holds it's own. I would say x-com is the better, but I would never say that you should not play one or the other, they are different games.

>>161621389
>son, i played xcom first in the year 2007, when i came to 4chen and discovered the game on /tg/
Calling everyone else a child while throwing a temper tantrum because people don't agree with you is a very poor argument. Also new xcom is more difficult than x-com by miles.

can you advise me on an ai mod that works well with all pods active? i'm gonna mop up this legendary run, get my achievement and start new campaign.
>>
>>161621996
Yes you did...what? XCOM still plays better with a keyboard and mouse, a controller is for leaning back into your chair and getting comfy. You are arguing that xcom is simpler/less complex than x-com, which is true, but the reason for the streamlining and simplification is not because of consoles, it's an attempt to reach a much wider audience, which they succeeded at.
