/indie/ - Indie and Obscure Games General

Underrail and Underrail accessories

>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy,Cookie Clicker, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indies, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

GAME OF THE THREAD
BERNBAND

it's a game about an alien world that you just kinda walk around in. The game has a really unique feelto it though if you like "walk around and explore" games.

>If you mine the tiles where the Runners spawn on killing either one interrupts the cutscene. This results in the player character not walking forward with the gate closing behind them. No aggro is gained by doing this as the runners are independent and aren't affiliated with any factions. This gives player access to both the lockers and the elevator as the gate does not shut. Speaking to Andrea results in her asking if we want to start the gauntlet but this time the cutscene does not play. Player must still pull lever in final room of Gauntlet and speak to Andrea for quest completion. All items brought into Gauntlet are deleted when completed. Even if you cull the competition the final room will still spawn the two different runners.

>At least you can keep all the loot in the lockers including the unique yellow tracksuit by doing this.

Faggot Runner just tanked two Frag Mines, an Electrokinetic Imprint, and a TNT.

So I assumed during the cutscene they are immortal.

>Faggot Runner just tanked two Frag Mines, an Electrokinetic Imprint, and a TNT.
What's stopping you from using more?

What MK are you using? I and II are not that strong.

>So I assumed during the cutscene they are immortal.
No, nothing changes durning cutscenes.
>>
>>161345348
The Imprint alone should have a good chance of one-shotting them, and my movement options are kind of limited, what with the guard standing there and all. But alright, let's try some more.
>>
>>161345753
Okay, it worked out. Sadly however despite people inside the Gauntlet not minding it, that shit still turned Praetorians hostile.

Ah well. Time to import.

Just enough to use all bear traps and MK III frag/HE mines, the best you can get without crafting.

You could also, you know, just export your character while in Gauntlet. Since that's what you had to do anyways.

I don't think they're going to "fix" the silly things you can do with traps and cutscenes, because that's just the way the those mechanics coincide. There are many ways to break the game if you go looking for them, that's just one of them.
>>
Does it matter which branch of tchortism I join?
>>
>>161350717
Not really, but that's a good place to leave a backup save for other reasons.
>>
>>161350457
True. But then I'd have to give up on my equipment. And fuck me if I'm going on another hunt for good electronic parts. Moreover, I'd have to replay the entire tutorial, since I wouldn't have a way to break the rocks. And then go through the oligarch quests again. And that would be just a chore.

This solution was far from optimal, I would have preferred it if I could have just get away with it. But it's an acceptable compromise since now all I have to do rush through the Coretech research lab to trigger the Tchortist cutscene, and pick up where I left off. And the ending slides I couldn't give less of a fuck about.

>>161357086
The thing about crossbows is, you don't use normal bolts for anything except few special attacks. It's all special bolts.

>electronics
You want minimum 40-60 skill for mk2-3 shock bolts. Preferably 100+ for good shield emitter since those are the most powerful crafted items by far.
>chemistry
Do not ignore it. Incendiary bolts are too good to pass and corrosive acid bolts make the endgame much easier. There are few corrosive bolts in DC, but it's just so much better if you can craft as many as you want

Snooping will be useless with 10 per, yes.

He instantly greets you with the aura. You can resist it with a combo of WILL and Thought Control, and it's fine as long as you fail. If you beat his aura he will become mad jelly of your abilities and attack you to cover up this embarrassment. If you play along, he will ask you about why you are after the Cube. If you tell him it's because of the Faceless Invasion, he drops the aura and leaves. But if you tell him about the missing merchants, he will mind-worm you and demand you tell him what station you came from. He will be able to detect your lie through the worm, which again will lead to him attacking you. Of course you can also just tell him the truth, in which case he just fucks off again.

i think elona is fairly obscure

A game that has had running generals (on /jp/) for years is not obscure.

It's another unfinished rpgmaker game.
I had fun with my seven armed mutant that could attack with seven different weapons every turn though, with multiple chances to get extra hits per weapon and weapons that had all kinds of status effects on them.

Well Card City Nights is single player only so not really party.
Missed opportunity to not make it online multiplayer I think. I don't get the normal TCG's but coupled with the placement of tripple triad it becomes fun.
>>
>>161390620
TCG kind of suck when they're online. Especially small scale ones that likely never bothered to account for balance because all the campaign was preset decks against a player character

All TCG are inherently unbalanced, especially MTG
>>
>>161390963
Not neccesarily. Depends on the release and the like. I've seen some pretty balanced blocks for drafting. B-besides LCG are the future anyway and mine will be the most balanced of them all.
>>
>>161390963
It lies in the nature of a competitive game that relies on RNG as core mechanic.
>>
>>161391072
RNG is not inherently imbalanced. You could quantify deck proportions and usefullness against liklihood of drawing if you so chose to. As long as no card or group of cards has an unmittigated advantage over all others, it's fine. Even better if everyone has free access to that card as well.
Balance is draw/play/effect ratios and effect interactions.
>>
>>161391072
Alea itself doesnt cause imbalance in a game like poker. Most of the imbalance in TCG are from design of the cards themselves. Its a problem even when cards are banned.
>>
>>161391425
Poker is a gamble though. It should never taken serious as competitive game but people do anyway because money.
>>
>>161391492
And yet it is competative and people are consistently good at it. Are you thinking this through all the way?
>>
>>161391492
>Poker is a gamble though
>implying
Yeah Anon, I'm sure all those pro poker players who made milions and won mutiple worldwide tournaments with thousands of players were just lucky.

The thing about poker is there is no such thing as winning a single hand or a game, poker is about making mathematically correct decisions with positive EV given the information you have.

Unless you are talking about 5 card. 5 card is shit.
>>
>>161391492
Competitive CSGO is taken seriously.
>>
>>161391953
Not as bad as heartstone and mobas.
>>
>>161391492
Chance determines the cards dealt to them but players have personal responsibility over how they play those cards. It really is a game of money. Without money or something similar there is no thrill. More money can be made in a game of chance than can be made in the career of a professional player in a skilled play like boxing. The thrill is in risking wealth proportionate to the risk of losing it all. This is why people with no wealth, especially NEETs and children, or an attitude with realistic or pessimistic foresight see less value in these games than ones of active play.
>>
>>161390963
If you think MTG is especially bad, I'd hate to see how you react to Yu Gi Oh.

Underrail question. If i slaughter the Port Zenith base in Core City because i can't be fucked stealthing am i permanently fucked with the protectorate, or just the two guys stationed outside, because i want to join them but getting those shield emitters via brute force is my only option this run.
>>
>>161396792
you can stealth that place without any level in stealth
1 - Balaclava
2 - Leather Armor/tac vest with Black cloth
3 - Ninja Tabi
4(optional) - cloaking device

you can totally do that part with 60 or more stealth, wich can be easily acquire from the previously mentioned gear
>>
>>161397245

I just really can't be fucked after having spent an hour or so trying to pull it off only to walk out and find those 2 guards enemies.

So all protectorates are enemies for me now? How about those two in the bottom part with the crawlers?
>>
>>161397438
are you sure you weren't caught before?
if you're still doing it stealthly you can leave the building throught the front door and the protectorate guards outside aren't going to aggro on you

i'm sure about this because i did the same shit 5 minutes ago
>>
>>161397604

I'm a juggernaught so i didnt even bother trying stealthy just went in guns blazing, assumed if i offed everyone inside, so long as i came back out the superindentants tunnel way i'd be fine.
>>
>>161397736
shiet son, looks like you're a free drone juggernaut now
>>
>>161397782

Reloading back 2 hours ago now. I fucking hate when you're forced into a certain route, especially when that route is difficult.

Gonna be fun spending three times the time farming all the bullshit to create that stealthy kit for one fucking section that'll probably still take me ages to pull off.
>>
>>161397736
>>161397940
Since you're a juggernaut you could've killed Bob on hardcore city bar and impersonated him, you just need 70 persuasion to enter the front door, but if you take the ventilation shafts beneath docks entrace you just have to sneak past 1 guy

If you have Bob's pass and uniform, you should be able walk around without provoking hostilities as long as you aren't too close to anyone.
>>
>>161398174

A better part of that hour was spent trying that and every time some cunt worker kept seeing me. I might try it again if i still got a save from around then. Thanks for answering anyway.
>>
>>161398250
also, you're not really forced to do it, anything related to gorsky after SGS is totally optional
>>
>>161397940
>I fucking hate when you're forced into a certain route, especially when that route is difficult.
That's what you get when you build a literal murder hobo with no stealth or persuasion.

Why do you expect to be good at infiltration when you don't have any infiltration skills whatsoever? You made a murder hobo, play a murder hobo.

And it's not like you have to work for Gorsky. In fact it's not the best choice if you are pro Protectorate.
>>
>>161398421
anon don't blame him

>>
>>161398421

Eh, i'm a completionist. Just seems stupid to completely lock a whole variety of builds out of doing shit. Generally when these games offer multiple gameplay options and variety there are multiple ways of doing things other than just stealthing / pseudo-stealthing that don't inherently lock you out of a faction.

I didn't know it wasn't required though which makes it better, still annoying but better.
>>
>>161398864
>Just seems stupid to completely lock a whole variety of builds out of doing shit
But you are not locked out. You can still finish the quest in a way suited to your playstyle.

> Generally when these games offer multiple gameplay options and variety there are multiple ways of doing things other than just stealthing / pseudo-stealthing that don't inherently lock you out of a faction.
You are offered a persuasion check as well.

I don't see what's the issue. To me it seems like you want stealth and persuasion to be useless.
>>
>>161399010

I just don't see what's currently available as viable for non-stealth / persuasion (i have persuasion too by the way, just nowhere near enough unless i spend a level completely dumping points in it) that still lets me stay on the Protectorates good side, that being said the whole quest is about fucking over the Protectorate so i suppose there's a reason for it.

Also combat is always going to be necessary in a game like this so why penalize someone for going the combat route by making it practically impossible for them to complete this quest if they want a protectorate run.
>>
>>161399321
>I just don't see what's currently available as viable for non-stealth / persuasion (i have persuasion too by the way, just nowhere near enough unless i spend a level completely dumping points in it)
Well it's not like you have to do it right now. Why not wait until your persuasion score is higher? You should keep it as high as possible anyways due to how checks work.

>Also combat is always going to be necessary in a game like this so why penalize someone for going the combat route by making it practically impossible for them to complete this quest
Because builds that do have persuasion sacrificed points into it, points that could be spend on combat-related skill instead. It's a trade-off.

> if they want a protectorate run
Why are you stealing from protectorate on a protectorate run?

Why do you expect you should be able to get away with such a thing easily?
>>
>>161399668

Again, i didn't realize this wasn't a necessary quest when i started complaining about it so that point is moot.

Still if i fucking murder everyone who ever saw me and there are no cameras it makes little sense that every protectorate member around the world suddenly has a brain blast and knows to kill me on sight.
>>
>>161399924
>

Still if i fucking murder everyone who ever saw me and there are no cameras it makes little sense that every protectorate member around the world suddenly has a brain blast and knows to kill me on sight.
Yeah, that's kind of a bigger problem with how zone control system works. If the zone is controlled all murders will be tracked to you regardless.

There are only two places with a "leave no witnesses" zone control rule where killing all witnesses will prevent any hostilities with the faction.
>>
>>161400179

Just because it's a game mechanic doesn't make it logical.
>>
>>161400297
That's why I said it's a problem. Probably could be handled in a better way.

Still if you want a logical explanation, I would expect that a total massacre of a whole and only Protectorate warehouse would be investigated thoroughly.

He's pretty tanky and immune to stun/incapacitation, but other than that he's just like any other NPC. Probably too strong when you visit him for the first time though.

His revolver has high crit chance so you might want to craft something like pic related if you have any troubles, a tac vest with nanocomposite plate that reduces critcal damage taken. Seems ideal for this fight.

Super steel is said to be an extremaly light alloy. It's also said to approach pure carbon when it comes to tensile strength.

I'm assuming Underrail metallurgy is so advanced they found a way to put more carbon into the alloy without making it brittle, or they found some new chemical elements that were not found yet (don't exist) in real life.

Ok, I rerolled, and dropped persuasion for electronics so I can make some good shields and cloaking devices later on. Didn't put points in chemistry, since I can just buy mines and chemical arrows, while good shields and cloaking devices are a bitch to find.

I am at gms second level. I remember having a ton of trouble with the sentry bots when I first played, and had to take ages sneaking around them, so it feels good to fuck them up so quickly with shockbolts and emp mines this time.

I do liked the easter egg around the breath of death game in it. I got extra pissed when I turned on dev commentary after a playthrough and had to quit in the first dungeon.
The far better games that use the engine are the 3rd and 4th part of the penny arcade rpgs.

Valve wants to own the PC game market, turn PC into another closed console platform and kill the modding scene. Steam has outlived its usefulness, it's time to kill it.

>>161441453
If they wanted to kill the modding scene why are all their biggest money earners originally from mods and why is steam workshop a thing?
>>
>>161445723
Because their biggest earners are from mods is why they almost killed the modding scene. They see that they can successfully sell total conversion mods like Counter Strike and Team Fortress and tried to apply that model to mods in other games
>>
>>161445723
Are you plain stupid or did you somehow miss what they tried to do with workshop just last year?

Steam wanted to start selling mods. Majority of the profits would've gone to Valve and the game developer, modders would've only gotten pocket change. This shit was up only for a short while, and it already damaged affected modding communities. Thankfully gamers weren't total cucks on this and gave Steam a strong negative reaction that ruined their dirty attempt.
>>
>>161445583
No you shithead. If you buy the game on steam you have some validation, you have achivements, you have community, you have steamworks, you have friends to play multiplayer game. Pirate versions of steam games usually have some flaws, patching is hell, miner meme is not so much meme and steam version will always be better than torrented one. If you buy gog version and someone pirates gog game from torrents he has the same licensed version as you. People don't like to pay for air. I don't want to pay money to see people having the same product for free. It's the problem of digital copies only era of gaming but still.
>>
>>161446624
GOG has all those things, see GOG galaxy, and its locked to only people who actually buy games, so youre not paying for air. I also dont see how paying for DRM is such a great privilege.

Please understand that by supporting Steam you are further rooting in its position as market leader. You are only making the problem worse. Stop that. Us consumers have the power over them. Vote with your wallet. We can change things. We don't have to suffer shit services forever.

It felt more like they were trying to figure out how to profit from modding instead of "destroy" it like you think. It's less that valve's actively trying to destroy something and more that they're just stupid and don't realize that just putting a price on something isn't always a good idea at all. They're a company that actively benefits from user content for their main multiplayer games and most likely saw modding as another way to make money off of a similar kind of community without thinking about why that's a really fucking bad idea. Honestly I kind of wish they just did something more like making it so that you could donate to modders or something and even that has glaring problems.
>>
>>161446624
It's funny how you glorify steam's useless bloat but don't even touch any of the pressing issues.

Do you really want pc gaming to turn into glorified console gaming? Let valve's greed ruin modding culture? Suffer increasingly draconian drm? Did you forget how many years we had to fight to get basic consumer rights (refunds) on steam?

Take that valvecock out of your mouth and open your eyes.
>>
>>161449202
I'm 30 years why the fuck should I care about it? Steam has mods, free mods, the drm is not draconian, that's not old CDs and it's much easier to have games on steam and the only ones that are better on GOG are old games. There's a reason they were called good old games before they decided to have some part of steam's pie because if you think they are doing all that for gamers and shit you are wrong.

I don't know what your age has to do with the discussion, but it is hard to believe anyone past their teens would be so immature.

If PC gaming is a dear hobby to you, supporting Steam is not in your best interests. That is all.
>>
>>161449521
Does it matter why they are doing it? What matters is they are actually doing it.
Big fucking deal if steam has mods, we had mods before Workshop centralized everything in its simplified mediocre system that forsakes control for "ease".
Also the DRM is inherently draconian, CD and securom being worse doesn't excuse it.
>>
>>161449727
Give me one reason why besides MUH DRM MUH EVIL GABEN when it's just fucking easier and usually cheaper to buy games on steam. I never had any issues with steam's drm, neither did my friends but all I hear when talking about GOG is DRM DRM DRM.

You dont have to have wait a minute for the steam client to start just to play a game. You dont have to hassle with offline mode to play with no internet. You can install, share, and play games on multiple computers and simultaneously without messing with offline mode or the mess that is family sharing. You can play games years from now even if GOG shutdown.

Highest mechaical lock is 130, so you need only 120 with the best tool.

Highest electronic lock is 135, so you need only 120 with the best tool.

Highest electronic check is 130, give some cool lore. You can't use tools though.

Never needed more than 120 pickpocketing.

Throwing is acceptable once it hits 80-100.

With traps it's enough to just meet the requirements to set them. That would be 45-50 if you don't have chemistry to craft MK IV and V.

>Roster of Not Heroes - Select between 9 different heroes, each with their own distinct gameplay style and crime murdering abilities. Blast the city’s scum through doors with Cletus’ a shotgun, slice them in half with Kimmy’s katana dash, or simply bash crime in it’s terrible face with Ronald’s hammer.

The dev commentary gives good insides on the process which made me mad. He boasts about his engine improvements like walking under a bridge when he could have just used rpgmaker for better effects.
At the end of the dungeon he says that pretty much every game tester complained about the dungeons being too complicated. A map was requested freuently but he wrote that he had no time to code one because he wanted to release the game. So he just placed 2 orbs in front of the dungeon exit and counted the money.

because after all the shit that happened and explanations that you acquired and info Archibald got, praetorian security will star a war against coretech, And with the Core City plunging into a state of permanent chaos, it is only a matter of time before they would make their move against the concrete jungle
>>

Cool. Is there a binary choice between SGS and Protectorate, or is it just Free Drones / Protectorate / Tchortists with SGS being pretty unimportant in the grand scheme.

I know one of the endings is you sitting around as an SGS councillor but i dont really think that's very interesting.
>>
>>161479674
if you join the protectorate some station residents will decide to leave and Gorsky will call you on this and declare you as a enemy

if you join the free drones some station residents will leave with Vera and Gorsky who is now running a powerful organization in Core City called Silver Hand applauded your moves and pledged to fight at your side against the Protectorate.

for the future of SGS you better stay on a path of Neutrality, otherwise it's better for you to take the train to North UnderRail.

Praetorian questline is all about direct combat and killing shit. Their warehouse quest is probably the hardest because it's just you vs a ton of strong enemies.

Their trader sells explosive .44 blueprint and good quality armor components and some weapon components.

JKK is all about infiltration, their warehouse quest is the easiest.

Their trader sells 9mm acid ammo blueprint and good quality black cloth and crossbws/claking devices/etc.

CoreTech is all about tech, their questline is middle ground between Praetorian and JKK.

Their trader has 5mm shock blueprint and good quality electronic parts.

GOG galaxy isnt DRM. By that same logic raptr, gameranger, or xfire are DRM. Its simply the method to access the online component. Unlike with steam you dont need the Galaxy client to do anything that isnt online. GOG and Steam have crossplay.
What your friends do is irrelevant, a non-sequitur. If you and all your friends used Skype it doesnt mean its better than Tox, Ekiga, Ring, Mumble, Hello, or Jitsi.

No at all. It's a pretty bad feat overall.

You will get only 8% (rounded up from 7.5) crit chance on standard chemical pistols and only 3% with XAL in exchange for 3 base ability points.

I could see it being worth it on plasma pistol or hammer builds since they rely heavily on crits but oherwise I don't really see the point. You are much better off putting those points into PER, DEX or pretty much anything else.
