Maybe, but I'm infamous on /nepgen/ for being extremely bad at RPGs (and being a butt addict, and overthinking silly stuff, and having an tendencies to sing that song from Oingo Boingo), so maybe it's just me being bad, but when I tried it, I never had fun (not a single time, unlike in Neptunia, where I only get frustrated 25% of the time and spend 75% of it laughing at the jokes), and there's that fucking boss that appears after two, unskippable cutscenes, and oneshoot me.

I don't like ridiculously sharp learning curves or damage tables, and, well I don't know how to say this without sounding biased, but Squeenix have been emo touting shit bags for the longest time now, and with each new final fantasy (for example) all they seem to do is remove mechanics and water the game play down. And then there's a shitty mechanism I never really figured out where the more things you kill, the more it raises their level in the dungeon, including bosses.
Except you, of course, because you don't level up like you would do in a normal game, instead you sometimes have a roulette giving you permanent bonuses (like Vagrant Story, but shittier).

The problem with Last remnant is that it's difficulty mostly comes from obtuseness than anything else. The system is really deep when you get into it and there's alot you can do once you understand how the various subsystems work with each other, but none of this is ever conveyed in game, so unless you take a serious out of game effort to research the system you are basically playing a giant guessing game.

Also, one other issue is that any battle that is remotely challenging takes anywhere between 10 to 40 minutes, and it has a crap fast battle system. If that sounds like your cup of tea, go right ahead, just bear in mind that it doesn't quite fit what most people picture when you say "difficult RPG"

The Elder Scrolls games have a really shitty scaling, to be honest. If you raise your non-fighting skills, you get raped by everything, and if you raise only your fighting skill, you kill everything but the game is just a m1 clickfest.

I remember I hated The Last Remnant anyway. It was beautiful, but the unskippable cutscenes, the obscure mechanism that manages to be worse than HDN, and the main character who's the worst retard I ever saw in a video game.
But since you sounded like you wanted a complex RPG, I suggested it anyway, since it has some nice ideas.

That's because the feedback system of Dark souls is extremely straightforward. If you die in dark souls, you know why you died and probably have a pretty decent idea on how to avoid it in the future.

Slice/blunt/Pierce/etc only matter in online play, where some of the giant bosses have parts that can only be damaged by certain damage types, or get dealt reduced damage from everything except certain damage types depending on your difficulty settings. It doesn't come into play in single player.
