It's because melee has autistic execution requirements, like SFIV, so there's the illusion of an unreachable skill cap carrot-on-a-stick.

When you let people reach the execution skill cap quickly they lose interest because they don't even know or don't care about other more subtle skill caps involving strategy like quickly profiling someones playstyle and adapting to it or any number of slices of the game you can optimize like meter usage.

V-trigger is fucking awful, it locks important, interesting tools behind a comeback mechanic. Ibuki being the worst example; her big set up tool requires you to have taken more than 50% damage. Being a low life character this is fucking retarded. The reason why Urien is not high tier or maybe top is because he can't dominate with Aegis when he wants to, he has to sustain damage in order to unlock his full potential. The way it should be is Urien (for example) completely dominating his opponent, taking the first round, going into Aegis shenanigans very early into round 2 and taking the game from finishing them off.
