Dunno maybe you could replicate a similar effect you'd just need to know what happens when you do that on a real console, I mean you can replicate the effect of switching disc mid game with mednafen for example.
>>
>>160864056
No one seems to care to try to replicate it though because it's a very specific trick for a very specific game to achieve what they wanted. I guess it may have effects in other games too but seemingly no one tries it or documents it.

MTVU typically always helps FPS, it's in speed hacks.

Opengl > dx11 > dx9 typically but I think most times they all work.

Partial CRC is almost always better than normal or aggressive but those options are sometimes better for IQ or performance.

GSDX shaders are good shit to add detail to ps2 games.

Turning on "L3 to turbo".

Increasing turbo boost to its max.

Enable software mode and/or 4:3 for FMVs.

That's about it, the rest is per-game tweaks.

If kids want to say they have an understanding of how computers work, they should be taught (or self taught) about IRQs.

>>
>>160869370
>(PCs have always been impossible)
You have no clue what you're talking about.
>>
>>160884457
I dunno, the most accurate (real machine) PC emulator, 86Box, still can't run any Windows OS beyond Server 2003 due to not emulating ACPI, and it also can't emulate any 3D accelerators from nVidia or ATI/AMD to any reasonable capacity. I'm currently working on the nVidia issue, but honestly, it will take years, perhaps even DECADES to see modern PC games emulated to the degree that they are playable. PCs are just far too complex for LLE emulation to be anything but slow and tedious.
>>
>>160884784
What games are currently unplayable on anything but say Windows 95-98?

AFAIK everything you can play on XP you can find a way to run on 7+. It may not be pretty but it'll run.
>>
>>160885125
I honestly wouldn't know. But the point of my message was not about playing games designed for XP on newer systems, but playing games designed for Windows 10 and Vulkan inside an LLE emulator, which I believe was closer to what the poster was referring to.
>>
>>160885210
Well yeah stuff like W10 games with UWP are not emulatable now but we have a long time before those games start to become rarer or harder to access. I'm thinking of more urgent games that are in danger of being unplayable when all hardware that can run W95 dies or something.
>>
>>160885210
>>160885461
but what about virtual machines
why do you even need LLE

>the most accurate (real machine) PC emulator, 86Box, still can't run any Windows OS beyond Server 2003 due to not emulating ACPI
Virtual machines cover a lot of older games but not newer ones
>>
>>160885686
Virtual machines are only really good for capturing the basics of a PC. LLE allows you to run any operating system accurately as long as the OS supports the hardware you're emulating. Also, LLE can run original drivers for whatever graphics card you're emulating!

>>160885834

I can't think of an otherwise fitting use for either, and there are tons of shortcuts to get around. For example you didn't need to take that path, you could have kept walking straight (and even across the water with the equip) and took a geyser up.

I'ts just a little bitch motherfucker from a completely useless and disbanded team that now he wants to get his little 15 minutes of fame again since his ass no longer does anything of any significance anymore.

Also, it tells you a lot about the 'homebrew Wii scene' when its main app (that you had to use in order to boot anything on it) was closed-source. Lel.

Homebrew console scenes as always being full of complete shit. From lying about where they derive their 'homebrew SDKs' from (read: IDA Pro reversings of official copyrighted SDKs) to pretending they are about homebrew and against piracy, yet they are sitting on exploits that let them happily pirate and doling out 'DRM dongles' for the unwashed masses. Just a couple of autist nerds that feel grand power for having 'ownership' and being able to 'hack' commercial consoles and vainly thinking Nintendo might at some point give them a job even though that is never to arrive.

You need all of them in a .zip called neogeo.zip, MAME / FBA will want it in the ROMs folder, RA will want it either alongside the ROM you wanna play or in the system folder depending (I'm not 100% sure though it might also be always alongside the game you're trying to run).

Just like ROMs for arcade systems you leave them zipped at all times.

I've got a spare Raspberry Pi B+ that I no longer need for its original purpose, so I was going to install RetroPie on it. Only problem is, it's pretty slow within the EmulationStation menu and within roms themselves (NES has lots of studdering and audio slowness, other stuff doesn't play at even close to speed). I realize it's a first generation Pi, but even my PSP can run NES at full speed with a 222 mhz clock.

Is there anything special I need to do to get it up to full speed? I've tried different power adapters, none of them have made a difference. I set up a bluetooth connection thinking maybe my PS3 controller was draining too much power from the rest of the system since it would charge when plugged in, but no difference there either. I went and overclocked the processor to 950 mhz, and while that netted me a few frames, it still isn't smooth.

I tried a different front end years ago and I remember NES working fine on it, so I'm thinking it's probably related to the software config of RetroPie/EmulationStation, but I can't be sure. I really like the nice frontend it has, so I'd like to keep it, but if I can't figure out how to speed it up, I guess I'll just have to go back to command line launching.

Have you ever coded a frontend that worked on more than one platform? It's not that easy when graphics APIs and audio start getting involved.

No because that would be borderline retarded.

Make one for PC, one for Phones and one for consoles/handhelds otherwise it's going to be a huge unmaintainable mess.

It can't be that difficult if you spend most of your time on cross-platform APIs. D3D is broken in RA (last time I checked), all they seem to care about is OGL (which is terrible on Windows and non-Nvidia hardware) and Vulkan.

Only if you try to use higher versions like 4.5 that aren't properly supported in certain drivers. OGL 2.0 has wide support and should work well on any decent hardware from the last 10 years.

sk uses loads retroarch with configuration file named 'config.cfg' found in the skeletonkey installation directory.
If you would like to use the configuration file created by sk, you will want to copy config.cfg to the location launchbox expects retroarch's configuration file to be (usually '...\retroarch\retroarch.cfg'

That actually does kind of make sense though. Bigger size meant more assets which probably means more content and more fun; there's a loose correlation.

Nowadays that would be completely retarded thanks to compression and many devs' completely irresponsible use of FMVs, but back then it wasn't completely unreasonable.

Black frame insertion works fine for me as long as the CRT is the primary display. It seems there are some issues with vsync on secondary screens with Nvidia at least. I just use Windows+P to swap quickly between displays.

>The game looks fine without it and Retroarch is also reporting 60Hz so I'm really confused.

Black frame insertion is not necessary if you don't mind the doubled frames in motion. Setting vsync swap interval to 2 will make it report 60Hz but it's actually displays 120Hz since it is displaying each frame twice. Black frame insertion does the same thing except it it displays a black frame instead of a duplicate frame.

It's faster and has async shader comp so it doesn't stutter like regular dolphin. A bunch of other weird ricer features. Basically it appeals to anyone mainline Dolphin has alienated.

Yeah, pcsx2 and dolphin have far more than libretro, but that's only natural, they are emulating fairly recent consoles that young adults/kids would be interested in.

$ 1,996,000

http://www.worthofweb.com/website-value/dolphin-emu.org/

PCSX2 dwarfs everything out there, including Dolphin.

But as far as everything else outside of a PS2/Wii emulator is concerned, Libretro is pretty much at least ahead of the pack by half.

I don't think it would be too difficult for simple support of this. I guess emudevs just don't care.

From what I understand, the vru gets sent a list of words, and does the matching then sends back which one it heard. So, I think you could emulate this without dealing with mic input, just pop up a dialog box with buttons with the possible words. I guess that wouldn't satiate your nostalgia though. Having to deal mic input and actual voice recognition would be a pain in the dick.

When unpacking? IIRC most cracks for API based protections use a extra DLL for rebuilt code, and they shove the ASM in there. RLD did that for some Securom releases iirc. Or a extra PE section in which they rebuild the code.

Then again, some just use inline patches so they shoot some holes in the protection instead of unpacking entirely. Thats how the majority of 0day warez is done these days.

>>
>>161018248
I'm just trying to rebuild the imports. What I'm talking about is one step above import redirection. Let's say you have a call to CreateFile in the original exe, the protector copies the basic block straight from kernel32.dll somewhere else and points the intermodular call there. So when you place a breakpoint inside the .dll on the exported CreateFile address it never triggers because that copied code is called.

I read some other protectors don't just copy the code so they either implement their own versions of simple Windows APIs or only emulate the return value when they're sure it's always the same, but I don't think it's the case here.

The target is Enigma Protector and it's definitely not as advanced as what you brought up because it's intermediate level unpacking, I know there are scripts for this one but fuck using scripts I want to learn something. I think you can even make the protector code skip the emulation if you know where to patch, I've seen it on that unpacking video.

One approach I found was hooking exports so the protector copies whatever you feed it, you can point the export to a jump to the real api call and let the protector do its job on every import. I don't know if there is a check on export tables though.

https://forum.tuts4you.com/topic/22730-api-hooking-eat/

Another approach I thought of was pattern search but I've seen the protector replaces some instructions with equivalent ones when copying so it might not be super reliable.
>>

>>
>>161020110
Which unpacking video did you see? I know LCF-AT did tons of crap on Enigma/Themida, but scripts are indeed shit unless you written them yourself and wanna know how exactly a protection works.

Not sure if Enigma does EAT checking either, its been a while since I looked at that. And yeah, Enigma can do metamorphic code so yeah, pattern search an be a problem.
>>
>>161020745
I'm talking about this video, what annoys me is that he found a byte pattern for api emulation and he never explained how he did it (probably by analyzing a trace): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKKsdEX4LCI

There doesn't seem to be any kind of check on the code inside .dlls themselves, I modified a function and it copied it just fine.

>>
>>161021014
Thats what I truly hate about LCF-AT. He *never* explains how certain things are done, how he arrived to a conclusion, why things are done the way they are, etc. Thats why his "tutorials" are frankly, complete and utter rubbish. They don't intend at all to document the protection, all they are is a set of fucking steps for fucking script kiddies, which is what the majority of the likes of Skidrow are.

I remember when I did a tutorial for a serial scheme, I completely documented the fuck outta it so you get source code, as well as a general description of how serial keys are made, so it could work on future releases. I dunno why LCF-AT doesn't do the same for protectors.

As for working out API emulation, I don't think though there is a generic way of working out that problem, since each prot does it in each its own way. To me though, hooking sounds fun and personally something I might try. The pattern search sounds painful though.

It does have FirebrandX's palettes, and if you really care about some dance pad addon you should open an issue and bug rdanbrook about it.

>Not even in sync with upstream. No light gun/mouse support either

Who cares about being in sync with upstream when it implements things upstream doesn't? I don't really care about light gun/mouse support but someone with some coding knowledge could add that easily.

>I couldn't care less about gimmicks like shaders and rewind

And lower input lag, and custom resolution support, and full gamepad control, and Vulkan support, and wide cross platform support, etc. Of course you anti-RA retards wouldn't know of features if they hit you in the face.

It's a front end with big QOL improvements for anyone making a home theatre/arcade setup but the downside is it's not free and the creators are huge jews.

Two things.

Why pay for an arcade front end?
Why would you play videos on an arcade front end?
>>
>>161064798
I mostly play emulated games in my living room so having a front end like that is majorly preferable to awkwardly clicking around and a lot of the other frontends have had their support dropped. Hyperspin is essentially defunct and replaced by this thing.

Videos are not really a huge deal but I like the idea of having an "attract mode" or a preview for stuff.

Apart from a few edge cases the accuracy difference between mednafen and PCSXR is negligible. You will have to fiddle with settings case of PCSX-R PGXP but its worth the hassle for 3D games in my opinion.

Anyone ever have any luck getting the productions Tales of Phantasia patch to work on mednafen? It just boots up the CD player and the one guy who asked about it on the archive never got an answer. The AZ one works so I might just start a file on another emulator for the technical ring and swap back with that one after I save it.

So how is PGXP these days? Back when it first came around I remember it having issues with lots of games not working properly, specifically Grandia still having lots of issues. Is it more stable now or has progress been slow?
>>
>>161088945

You need to set PGXP operation mode to 'memory only' and 'perspective correction' to 'enabled', that is the stable mode which most of the time looks correct.
>>
>>161088945
Heard it works better now, but the performance needed jumped up quite a lot.
>>
>>161089052
>>161089080

>>
>>161088945
it works very well but only for a few games. When it works on a game, it looks amazing, if not you get the jiggle pixel all over the place. With 'le man racing' it looks like an earthquake, with grandi it look sas always on a emu, with Ridge racer revolution you get it absolutley correct and it looks like almost a new game. At least the 16:9 fix works on everygame as long it is 3D.

There are more glitches with PCSX-R PGXP than there are with Beetle PSX, as confirmed by iCatButler himself.

Pete's OGL2 plugin is just a much hackier and buggier renderer than Simias'.
>>
>>161090490
>Pete's OGL2 plugin is just a much hackier and buggier renderer than Simias'.
Which is why the Opengl renderer of beetle struggles to run games without graphical glitches that have been running on Pete's plugins for over a decade.
>>
>>161058675
>Saturn pad
half of the face buttons are too big and half are too small
i think i'm just gonna try to find a ds2 in good nick, thanks for the help though anon
>>
>>161090828

You fail to understand why. Because it targets numerous games with per-game hacks, because of the hacky nature of its renderer and because with GL 1.x you were very limited in what you could do in terms of accurately emulating the GPU.

Besides, what you said has nothing to do with the vertex UV alignment issues with PGXP in general. Please don't go into deflection mode and focus on the actual subject, this is about PGXP looking less buggy on Beetle PSX vs. Pete's OGL2.

Take it up with iCatButler if you disagree :

"I've tracked down the source of the odd polygons in Chrono Cross. They're coming from a call to DoLineCheck() in one of the triangle drawing functions, it appears to reorder the vertices and sometimes add an extra one to create a quad. At the moment I'm not entirely sure how it's intended to work, let alone why it's failing :p

Fortunately this call can be disabled in the "special game fixes" section of the configuration by choosing "Disable Coord Check". This should render all the characters without those random square edges, and might also fix FFIX."

http://ngemu.com/threads/pcsxr-pgxp.186369/page-13#post-2537929

TLDR - Pete's OGL2 is a crappy hackjob of a renderer.
>>
>>161092158

More positive feedback from TheDimensioner -

"@iCatButler, I have been testing PGXP on libretro Mednafen, and as they say, the emulator is really accurate. The slowdown I got using PGXP with PCSX-R, that need CPU overclock to resolve, does not happen here, and any slowdown is mostly caused my poor system (I can play some games at 2x native res, though XD). There's some texture stretching bugs, but it's nothing major like the ones that happened with "Mem + CPU mode" in some games on PCSX-R."

"Nevertheless, the accuracy, coupled with PGXP, even at native resolution for some games (which by the way, PSX has its charm at low res, 16 bit dithered color depth XD), and also the addition of limitless shader combinations (when it's possible to use without major performance impacts), might make libretro Mednafen my number 3 PSX emulator (it was pSX"fin", but that one is long dead, if it was open source, that would be the absolute king of PSX emulation in my opinion, with it's mere 1~5% CPU consumption XD)."

http://ngemu.com/threads/pcsxr-pgxp.186369/page-13#post-2537953

Idiotic people here are literally arguing the opposite of what the actual PGXP authors themselves are saying regarding the accuracy of Beetle PSX vs. Pete's OGL2.

Hack job or not, the fact that the Opengl renderer of beetle still fails to even have as much compatibility as a decade old plugin is an objective flaw that has not been addressed for years.Instead we have a vulkan back end with no benefits stated beyond vague promises.

The "slowdown" was a bug that has been fixed for since a long time in the latest revisions. Are you seriously using retard testimonials as basis of your "arguments"?

Seriously what exactly do you have to gain by spreading this disinfo?

Is there are directory where I can see the files necessary to run certain mame games? Trying to run nba jam te 2.0 and can't load it. Had the same problem with ddsom until I found out that it needed a qsound.bin file and added it to the .zip .

You tell me, I hardly play emulators for fun anymore. All I do is shitpost about drama, cause drama, or play some shitty FPS to escape said drama, when the only solution is to drink bleech.

He's right.

I used to emulate. Once.

The ROM Police raided my house and found all my USB gamepads and console-to-USB adapters. They grilled me for hours about my knowledge of 5th-gen and earlier consoles. I resisted for a while but finally cracked when they said that SNES Shadowrun was a simple port of the Mega Drive Shadowrun and it all came rushing out of me, like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry denies watching soap operas. The judge sentenced me to hard labour and I had to finish every Tiger Game.Com came three times on genuine hardware before I was released. It hasn't been easy getting my life back together. I'm a Registered SNES Offender so I'm not allowed within 100 feet of a frontend or fullset. My parole officer does regular checks to make sure I'm logging into Xbox Live and increasing my Gamerscore. On the plus side, I do charity work speaking at high schools so kids know about the dangers of emulation and don't end up like me.

Winners don't use ROMs.

It's the instability that really gets me about RA. The uncertainty that if I change this or that option some huge problem would happen and destroy that install of RA entirely. From my experience with stand alones at least none of them have ever had bugs that cause them to be unusable by changing an option in the UI or the like. Any bugs or crashes would be due to the games.

Thanks, mine was still "S", it was probably the last version before the descriptions on the options.

"F" Is the default enter/exit full screen button.

That should be alt+enter

Sure, if you don't mind it being Windows-exclusive, written in WPF, and being limited to a glorified launcher rather than an integrated GUI

What exactly is it that prevents a working DS emulator from being developed for the 3DS? What are the hardware limitations?

>What exactly is it that prevents a working DS emulator from being developed for the 3DS?
The fact that you can just pirate DS games and play them natively

So I just found out desmume can't emulate GBA games. Honestly some of these developers need to be whipped with fucking extension cords.

Now I tried downloading the latest nightly and using rgui in that. Now it's back to half-working: if I can get it to load a ROM before RetroArch crashes, then the ROM works (and Ocarina of Time ran at full speed after I changed that setting in the nVidia control panel)

But why does ParaLLEl keep crashing RetroArch? I do only have a GTX 760, which is one of the lowest end cards that supports Vulkan, but shouldn't RetroArch at least be able to function for longer than about 10 seconds in the menus as long as I can use Vulkan at all?
>>
>>161105775
Not sure. Sounds weird. Make a bug report I guess.
Try a different version of PCSX2 and see if that'll fix it maybe.

Cool.
Speaking of internal resolution upscaling on GL: My performance tanks the same amount in hardware mode when upscaling past 2 times as it does in software. Is that normal?

I ran Parallel on a Vulkan XMB and ParaLLEl on a 750Ti, so it's not because your card isn't fast enough.

btw yes, ParaLLEl ran slow as fuck on it.

>>161138950
My mother was able to use an NES emulator in seconds. If your emulator isn't that easy, it's because you've designed it poorly.

It's not an emulated Z buffer neither is it texture replacement. However, texture replacement gets you warmer than the Z buffer at least.
