I'm curious how actual field combat between Native Vaegirs and Rhodoks play out, I'm guessing Vaegirs lose, badly. No shields, shitty lamellar armor, no high Athletics. I guess the Rhodoks might start to take loses after some prolonged melee combat but Vaegir would need like 3 to 1 odds in their favor to win.

Okay, so that's just an idea I had in mind but bare with me here:
What if you could, in some sort of way (Instructors for example?) learn moves or affect your fighting style? Originally Mountain Blade had a wonderful system because of its simplicity but since you got shit like Upstabs or the different fighting style for unarmed and polearms in L'Aigle, I thought this may be a pretty cool thing to see in one of the newer mods or in Banterlord. Doesn't even have to be through learning, maybe you could simply change it since the beginning.

Examples:
-Upstab
-L'Aigle fighting style, so you can fight up close with spears
-That slightly more refined style in Floris
-Halfswording with two handed weapons, perhaps a stab-only mod which is better against heavy armours?
-Knockback kicks

Won't work well in mountain blade i think. The only time 'advanced' fancy moves even matter is for performance duels/one-on-one combat. When it comes to clash of hundreds or thousands of men, a more practical, simplistic approach will work better

You wouldn't go full Wuxia mode on the battlefield, but those who weren't shitty troops who just had a few weeks to learn how to hold a spear before dropping into battle would know a little more than it. There are plenty of battlefield techniques that are viable and somewhat flashy. I can give examplea and sources if you'd like.


The player character, I believe, tends to the second archtype most of the time, hence the idea.

In 'Spear V.S. Other weapons' they show how to deal with cavalry using something like a Partisan, as well as, as the title would suggest, other kinds of opponents you may meet on the battlefield.

In 'Mounted Combat' they show the fighters with uneven weapons, means it's highly unlikely to be a duel.

'Axe in armour' and 'Sword in armour' can be used for battlefield, and were likely meant for it.

And that is just from Fiore.

Nord Huscarls are legitimately overrated in siege offenses. The only siege offense that Nord Huscarls excel at are tower sieges due to the tower allowing multiple infantry to advance along with the tower frequently obstructing range LoS.

Nord Huscarls are better on the defense in sieges thanks to their great shields and throwing weapons (which get restocked). Too bad their faction fortifications are almost universally garbage.

Rhodoks are extremely strong on the field as well. Anyone that claims otherwise can't think beyond F1+F3.

I meant to mean "Nord" in a general sense. However "Nord Huscarls" may as well be "Nord" with how people treat the meta anyways. The real point is just that going pure melee is terrible in Native offensive sieges outside of tower sieges. Infantry is the follow-up to an efficient archer barrage and/or should be ordered to charge between reinforcement waves.

No and its not even close. Not only are Rhodok Sharpshooters the best offensive ranged siege unit but they are extremely competent shield infantry for the following reasons:

1) 100% shield chance (Huscarls will frequently prioritize 2-hander and get riddled with arrows)
2) All melee weapons are short reach (which is great in crowded sieges)
3) Has pierce/blunt melee (in contrast Huscarls have slash)
4) Has 4 power strike -- Which is the highest power strike among ranged units.

Rhodok Sergeants aren't push-overs either.

Nord Huscarls are the best infantry in pure stats but; aside from tower sieges, they need a competent ranged starter else they will get stuck on the ladder like any other faction.
