>also a bonus feature would be a system capable of automatically stockpiling certain items like iron, such that if you take iron out of the system it will automatically make more.
You can easily do that with supplier pipes or modules, which keep inventories stocked with however many items you want and will send requests for crafting of those items if you have crafting pipes/modules set to them. They're vastly better than AE2 in this regard because you can tell them to only keep for example 32 of something in a chest, while in AE2 you'll have to do some heavy fuckery with level emitters and exporters if you don't want to use external mods.

Hey, non-regular here, just stopping by because I thought you guys could possibly help me.

What I'm looking for is a mirror of the:

>Eastern Front Pack

I need these because I'm doing some Ace of Spades modding and the resources (mostly ironsights and sounds) within these packs seem like they could be very helpful.

When was this added?
>>
>>160745875
1.8 i think? it was the major version after they were added, and those were added in 1.7 i believe.

i vaguely remember because cinderpearls in Thaumcraft 1.6 dropped the pod which turned into blaze powder, and in the desert those bushes didn't exist yet.
then in in 1.7, cinderpearls drop blaze powder directly with those bushes all over, but the bushes are just decorative. unless you shear them to burn for aspects.

nope I'm wrong, 1.9 for sticks. they were added in beta 1.6.
took that long to give them an actual purpose.

You can't compare Minecraft to other games like this.

If you want to get your combat on, Terraria is an objectively superior game.
If you want to get your engineering on, Factorio is an objectively superior game.
Name any other aspect/feature of a game, there's an objectively superior game out there that does it better.

But here's the thing: few people play Terraria to build. Even fewer engineer contraptions. Just like very few people play Factorio for combat or exploration.
And that's where Minecraft shines, it has both of those and even more; it's a jack of all trades. It does everything, even if every single thing it does falls short and/or is shallow as shit, it's still there.
>>
>>160750961
>If you want to get your engineering on, Factorio is an objectively superior game.

I started with a small structure. This is the earliest screenshot I took that shows how small I started. Ignore the horribly implemented vanillager farm.

I'm also playing Expert Meme. Since progression is so heavily gated I've put in a lot of time building my workshop since the next tier or next 'area' of tech I can get to is however many steps away I just build an addition onto the lab, sort things out, then get moving on whatever I have next on the table.

Many of the mod makers can go on to have software development careers, if they don't already.

He's working under Curse, isn't he? They'll probably just delegate him to another one of their communities to be to the head leech or something, after all leeching is what Curse best.
A better question is what will the shitty autistic YouTubers do with their lives once they fall off the grid and the only game they've played nonstop for years stops earning them a living wage. "I made YouTube videos for a videogame that is considered "for children and autists" at large for 10+ years" doesn't look good on resumes.

Even if they DO have a skill they're developing in the background (say, learning to develop software or whatever) they're still on the back foot in terms of possible job prospects because who in the honest fuck is going to hire someone with an almost decade long gap in their work history for a high (or even mid) level position? Especially if their only explanation is "Youtube Content Creator". Citing that as a previous experience to explain missing years would get you laughed straight out of the door at any job worth actually having. Obviously there are exceptions depending on the job, a long history of high quality videos might actually help if you were going for something media related, possibly, but it's still shakey ground to put yourself on.

Need some tech support. Googled the problem, and found one or two entries on it from several years ago, but no solution was ever provided. I know the problem, and I know what's causing it, I just can't figure out how to fix it.

When I launch minecraft, the launcher opens, but inside is just blank white. The program is running fine, it's just not loading the interior of the launcher. There's no way to interact with anything.

I've figured out that this is caused by my custom windows theme. If I disable the theme, and restart minecraft, the launcher runs as normal. If I change the theme back after starting minecraft, everything still works.

Now, it's just an annoyance, and I can certainly change my theme every time I want to run minecraft, but it is a hassle.

Is there any way to either bypass the launcher, or fix the problem?

I haven't played in ages, but IC2 was always fun and gregtech seemed neat, never used it though. Not too sure what the rest of those are other than mekanism. I mostly just mean being able to automate most things, though.

Are the links in the FAQ good for finding quality mods? I'll start working on getting something together myself.

Only thing you could realistically apply that to is custom oregen setup.
The rest of configging is increadibly easy.
Less effort than setting up modded skyrim.

Step 1: Get MultiMC.
Step 2: Go here: https://bot.notenoughmods.com/1.7.10.html
Step 3: Follow the flow in this pic.
Step 4: What you pick and choose from the list above is dropped in the mods folder.

From there, if there are issues, which there probably won't be, but if you've at least tried, usually there's someone here to help out.

But you've got to try first. It's not rocket surgery, really.

Realistic for whom? Veterans who can name their 100 favorite mods off the top of their heads, or for newcomers who don't know Witchery from WAILA?

"make your own" isn't even an answer to the question. It's a dodge, with a subtext of condescension. Name a modpack, post your own modpack's mod list, or shut the hell up.

That's why I posted that link to the Not Enough Mods bot's list so it can be looked through to see what piques your interest.

>It's a dodge, with a subtext of condescension.

Yeah, I'll give you that. Problem is, I don't know of any packs that would fit what you would go with for "engineering", as it would really depend on what you felt like going for.

So here are my suggestions: FTB Infinity Evolved, which can be found via their launcher, or have a look at the Hobo serb pack. Neither focus on engineering specifically, but should have enough stuff to get you going in that direction until you figure out some tastes of your own for things.

I do hope you find what you're looking for, and eventually have some fun.

>>

Nothing, but wouldn't you say that adding an entire mod just for cheap coal is kinda dumb?
That said, AA is pretty unbalanced in quite a few areas, such as storage bigger than diamond chests that only costs a bit of wood, cheap food that restores all your hunger, and those potion rings. Still a somewhat decent (although really fucking ugly) choice for a miscellaneous mod and IIRC it's pretty configurable as well.

BuildCraft robots have advanced artificial intelligence algorithms and can detect when they're being thought of as butts. Try to be nicer next time.

Anyhow, here's an experiment of mine: http://asie.pl/foamfix-0.2.0.jar

This little mod should remove a significant amount of 1.10.2's RAM usage once the game has actually loaded (a medium-sized pack went from using 1860MB of RAM on the start menu to using 1360MB of RAM with the mod installed, as measured by VisualVM).

Notes:
* The amount of RAM dropped depends on the amount of mods you have installed.
* The major RAM drop only happens once Minecraft finishes loading, therefore it still needs high amounts of RAM for the loading process itself. (There's a minor RAM drop during pre-init which might help a bit, however)
* It's not even a coremod.
* I have only tested this on two modpacks.

I'm making an rpg/small-adventure style modded map, with a few mods but Immersive Engineering as the largest and main focus. I haven't played too much IE, but I want to know, with no other mods installed:

How hard is it to get a whole block of steel? Like storage blocks. If I use them in builds that the player can later disassemble, how game breaking is it? Late game do you have tons of blocks of steel laying around?

What are the Japanese Minecraft communities like?

I hear that they're not involved with Curse, I hear that sometimes they don't even use Forge. They're entirely cut off from the cancer we deal with.

Are these still cozy smaller communities like the old days?

This version should let you comfortably reduce the amount of memory allocated to Minecraft 1.10.2 by ~300-400MB, possibly more, and still play the game just fine.

According to initial reports, an older version (with less optimizations) dropped FTB Lite's required memory allocation from 4GB to 3GB.

>>
>>160949283
Observers and shulker boxes are a good thing from a vanillafag PoV. Anything redstone related tends to be good and improves the community and possibilities in mc.

Conversely, anything passive-mob related is shit. Wolves, cats, polar bears, llamas, bats, all useless, all shit. Pigs are now also shit-tier since everything is food in mc now. (food updates are also shit)

Squid get a pass due to at least dropping a useful items, horses due to being a nice way to get around in vanilla terms. before shulker boxes, mules would get a similar pass, but now they are obsolete via shulkerbox/enderchest combo being unbeatable.

if mojang could add more shit like observers, shulker boxes, hoppers, droppers, comparators, you know, mechanically inclined shit, they might get a better reputation for not being developmentally retarded. but nah, next update, we are getting elephants or something dumb like that. I'm calling it. Get ready.

I've always been flabbergasted by Mojang's priorities.

Whoever developed the AI for the mobs that only 5 year olds care about could have spent time extending the redstone/engineering/interactivity aspect of things, which for a long time has been the gameplay crux of Minecraft.

Or maybe I'm off. I don't know. But I feel Mojang's priorities should be in redstone and improving Minecraft as a base for modders to fuck with.

>>
>>160952123
They've been doing the latter for quite some time now (since at least 1.2.5, really), however they need to add something to keep the vanilla players interested.

If you have a low IQ and basically install overpowered mods with magic blocks/cables that can do whatever you need (ie. TE, Mekanism, RFtools, AE2, etc.), does Buildcraft add anything that could be useful?
>>
>>160955935
Buildcraft has a lot of good early game options, after you've blown through your progression there's still a bit of nice utility things, like using the quarry to carve bases, or the filler to place large swathes of blocks, flood gate to fill up pools or the builder to copy and paste entire buildings etc. The robots are pretty strong and capable, they can have a HUGE working range that gives you a lot of design flexibility and knocks out the usual redundant 50x farming stations you would normally need to fill the same area.

I have an idea anons, Why in the name of complexity do mod makers fail to understand the basics of limiting abuse of mass whoring low level technology? There needs to be diminishing returns and exponential price increases to curb the retardation and to encourage improved automation.

Applied Energistics 2 has the right idea, it gives you a system, and you have to manipulate a finite (Not really but work with me) number of channels to achieve the results you want.

Imitating this system, I propose a mandatory centralized power system with infinite upgrades with exponential expenses like incremental games. Instead of tying energy generation to resource efficiency, I would tie energy generation to the number of power production blocks you can attach to the core. More blocks means more upgrades required.

Still can't find tungsten.

At this point I should just centrifuge an entire barrel of lava for one and a half tungsten dust so I can replicate it. But then I need osmium for the replicator and I'd have to chemically treat an entire drawer full of chalcopyrite ore to get two and a half osmium, and then I'd have to replicate that first.

After a bit of searching I found these savages living in the woods surviving off potatoe, bread, and pork.

It was just turning night and at first I thought these primitives were running from me, turns out there's something spooky that comes out at night. Made a quick barracaid around the village and took out the few freaks that got in. The people here gave me a house to stay in as a reward for saving them. I'll see what I can do to help these dummies so they don't lose what's left of em.

It's just one mod: GregTech

Why are there so many? Each ore vein has up to four different ores, and each ore has a main metal or mineral plus up to three other byproducts. There is some overlap between them but also some differences. For example, Limonite and Chalcopyrite veins are both sources of Iron and Copper metals, but Limonite has more Iron and Chalcopyrite has more Copper.

Limonite is also usable as yellow and brown dyes, and the Yellow Limonite has a small amount of Nickel as a byproduct. The Iron Ore in Chalcopyrite veins has a larger amount of Nickel if Mercury is used to extract it. Chalcopyrite and Copper ores have a small amount of Gold as a byproduct, or a larger amount if Mercury is used. Chalcopyrite is also a source of tiny amounts of Iridium, Osmium, and Platinum, but you have to set up almost a dozen machines to provide the Nitric Acid needed and to complete the processing chain.

So far it's all I've been running into but I like em. Although their havens for enemy spawns.

On to the shitty story.

So it turns out not only are these people a bunch of savages, they're -lazy- savages too. Paying me in these valuable emeralds, practically giving them away for the work I do. I can at least trade these for some useful stuff they have. Might be lazy wackos but they sure know good craftsmanship.

Looking around the rest of this village I'm noticing that the architecture is horrendous and some houses can't even be entered! I had to build some stairways to some of these houses. They look like they took some damage, maybe the spooks that come out at night are to blame.

I've never played any earlier versions so I'm not sure what you would remember. Except that GT5 added a "Bronze Age" era where you have to craft eight stacks of bronze ingots before you can make the steel needed to start using electricity.

Part 3: Moving Out (Of mom's house)

Taking in the sunset and happy with the work I did making sure these people are safe I've made the decision to continue on my own journey.

As a final gift before I head on my journey into exploring this land one of the villagers gave me a diamond, for good luck he says. Before I could explain the value he stopped me and said 'I don't have a use for it anyway...Emeralds are way better looking!'

And so I headed north, up to the snowy mountain the villagers called 'Mount Reggin'.

Wasn't until I got to the summit of the second large mountain on my way north did it hit me what the villagers were calling that mountain near their village. I chuckled to myself while overlooking the descent and admiring the scenery.

There's so much to learn and explore of this place. It'd be almost a shame to settle down. But that's part of my job here. To find a place for others to call home. Setting up a forward base isn't too hard, it's finding that picture perfect zone that'll be the challenge.

The larger ones with the tall oil spouts can have 10-20 barrels of oil in them. A barrel of oil lasts an hour and twenty minutes in a diesel generator. So that oil well can last you up to a day if you're running the generator all the time.

>>
>>161041971
It depends, on what kind of server you want to host and the resources related to that.
For example if you want to host 5 or 100 players, you would dramatically different hardware. You also need to consider if its a vanilla, bukkit, or forge modded server, given that plugins and modpacks can be huge resource hogs as well.
For most occasions I'd say you could rent a small vanilla server, hosting like 5 players for 5 bucks, and for a light modpack like 10 bucks for 5 players again, generally modded servers will run you double or more to service.
I think the requirements to player ratio kind of curves out so you wouldn't expect to have to pay another 5 usd for another 5 players worth of hardware, like 5 for 5, 8 for 10, 15 for 20 and so on.
I haven't really been through the market lately so idk, your results may vary, but again there is a large variety now days so you should have luck finding good or better prices. Do try and make sure your hosting services gives you a lot of inclusive support and options, I've been seeing a lot recently are very restrictive on what you can do with your servers.

What do you mean by this? I'm not really familiar with the situation. Are there cases in which someone attempted this but were then pursued legally until they were shut down? They're already working with software that they don't own (i.e. minecraft.jar), so I don't see how they could legally restrict development like that.

The primary mappings (MCP) are pretty much ran by Forge nowadays, and their license requires you to get permission to use them in a substantial way, such as bundling them with your mod/API. There's alternate mappings - POMF - but they suffer from a lack of tooling, which is slowly being fixed.

Interesting. I just looked it up and saw this in an overview of the license:
>You are not allowed to use any of MCP's scripts, tools, or data files without explicit written permission.

Can you still download the MineCraft source code? I remember messing around with it in high school, but it was still in early alpha back then. I can't seem to find it after searching around.
>>
>>161058918
No. All copies of the (decompiled) source code infringe on Mojang's copyright for obvious reasons - you are not allowed to redistribute your copy of the game. You have to decompile them yourself.
>>
>>161058723
>warframe
>tfw free enough to just be able to logon for daily, then log off
>>
>>161059158
I meant released by Mojang itself. As I recall, Notch uploaded it himself for mod devs to use, and it was clearly not a decompiled version because all the variable names and comments were still intact (I verified this myself). It sounds like that doesn't happen anymore.
>>
>>161059467
I'm pretty sure he never did, sorry. I was around at the time, and that would also have been against what I understood was happening in Mojang.

Variable names are added in by MCP by editing the class files, then decompiling them, through a process of reverse-engineering what they are by a team of volunteers; comments are added in that way as well.
>>
asie you need to cleanse your body of the "coremods is bad mm'kay" meme
>>
>>161059594
Wherever I got it from (I don't recall exactly) must have been illegally hosting it and lying about how they got it. I downloaded the source directly and never used MCP. For some reason I recall something that convinced me of its authenticity. The MCP thread on the minecraft forums was posted in 2010, so I guess they really have been around for that long.

I would, but then I see a mod which literally patches 50 functions in the game with a coremod. How am I supposed to debug the game for bugs like this? I remember when Chisel's dev spent 6 hours debugging a bug only to find out it's triggered specifically by CoFHCore's coremod patch to the Container class.

I don't believe coremods are inherently bad, just that they're very often (a) misused in a way which is detrimental to other mods, (b) utilized when they don't really have to be, and (c) undocumented so that I have no clue what they actually do to the Minecraft codebase.

>>161060270
There's still a few copies of the decompiled source code on GitHub, people are slow to report/find them when someone accidentally their entire workspace.
>>
>>161060535
>>161059993

Also, I like self-imposing challenges as a hobby - which is why I'm interesed in things like programming for old 8/16-bit computers/consoles. "Don't use a coremod for this hack" is a nice self-imposed challenge in Minecraft modding.
>>

I did get a new RX 470 and realized it has a lot of issues running shaders that my HD 6870 didn't have. Yes, I've got the same transparent items and arm issue, but I've also got odd artifacting, like a large miscolored line will appear in a portion of the screen that never changes it's general shape and enchanted items like this one freak out. In addition the RX 470 should be a lot newer and a lot stronger card but it gives the same old frame rate I had with the older one, definitely seems like the radeon cards lacking those shader cores really takes it's tole here, when otherwise I would get double the fps or so on without shaders on. I've also encoutered withe this card, that not just minecraft but anything - the drivers are apparently garbage and have an issue where it will randomly and permanently corrupt your mouse pointer so your cursor will turn into a giant artifacted box, which is especially annoying when you play fps type games and that shit pops up. Luckily they're an after market work around for that but still.... It's cheap and I'm satisfied with it's performance but the little bugs like that really suck, think I'll try some nvidia cards next time.

It's kind of hard to see but it's prevalent in the other screen shot as well and the thing is that it's always there. Look up, look down, look all around, in the light, in the dark, always a corrupted line handing in the corner there. The rest of the issues are probably ignorable but that permanently fugged line and the 0 improvement to fps make it unplayable. Though I can confirm it happens with AMD cards I do think I've changed my java since I've swapped cards so that could be a thing too. I'm using Java 1.8.112 now on version 1.7.10.

AMD might be good in the majority of cases but there's little nuances/niches where AMD fucks up that have a pretty good chance of affecting a small but significant portion of users that nobody thinks to warn each other about. and i know minecraft shaders are particularly niche but there's other shit like this like openGL mode on PCSX2.

Actually, if you put wood and logs on each side of the crafting table, it creates infinite crafting tables.

No. You put the transfer node on one side of the table, and a 3x3 of chests on the opposite side. The node crafts items using the contents of the chests.

I haven't played with Factorization much, but it sounds a lot like its Compression Crafter.

BC pipes look cool and I can see why they were popular. Too bad other pipes are easier and better in the beginning so there's no reason for me to bother with BC.
>>
>>161072260
Get into Logistics Pipes and you'll see how great BC can be. The mod has support for Thermal Dynamics ducts too, but they're kind of shit for that most of the time because items slow down to a fucking crawl when entering normal itemduct and don't speed up at all when entering glowstone itemducts. On the other hand, warp itemducts are absolutely beautiful for Logipipes.
>>
>>161072515
>items slow down to a fucking crawl when entering normal itemduct

They do that with BC pipes too. That's why LP added their own "Unrouted Transport Pipes" that have zero drag on the items. It's not like it was back in 1.2.5 when LP items actually moved faster over BC pipes.
>>
>>161072607
Not immediately, they need to travel a few blocks inside BC pipes with drag before they go turtle mode, while they instantly come to a halt when going into ducts.

If you get all of ExU2's generators running at once and have a rainbow generator placed, it'll start generating 1 million rf a tick. Could be a fun automation project. The main one that would be hard/impossible to automate fully is dragon breath for the halitosis generator. Otherwise, you are looking at automated enchantments, potions, mob drops, nether stars, food, and so on. Pretty doable
>>
>>161078869
thats a rather hilarious engame generator build haha, thats some serious work to get that, suppose its for laughs
>>
>>161080005
Conceptually, you don't even need to have a fully automated system. if you have some redstone control, what you could do is just set up a hopper system to put 1 item into each gen at once (the only really expensive ones are the halitosis generator and nether star gen) and have a large battery bank around the rainbow one, quick bursts of millions of RF

Fully automating them sounds more fun though. There's also the fact that the pink generator doesn't have a fuel that runs for more than half a second
>>
>>161080667
it seems doable, and honestly nether stars are an easy grind, the only thing i dont understand is the halitosis generator, whats it use?
>>
>>161080913
it uses dragon breath, which you get by right clicking near the ender dragon's breath attacks. I don't think there's really a way to automate it, but it's not too hard to get a lot of it. you'd just need to restock every so often. Each bottle lasts 10 minutes and makes 40 rf/t
