So Hobo is probably dead, right? Just like the last guy who was paying for hoboserb.

It was different a month or two ago. Maybe it was a joke.

I assumed that the 23rd is just when the monthly payment is due and that the "when" part of it was the joke.

I searched the news for the death of a homeless man in Australia over the past few days, but didn't find anything. Hobos die all the time, so it may have not make it to the papers.

There's literally no point playing vanilla uness you're BRAND NEW at the games. They lost their direction long ago and the only shit they add is either "community is getting restless, better churn out a useless but pretty mob or block" and "dude wouldn't this be cooooool tho?!". Sure there's a few neat redstone-esque things, but it isn't worth putting up with all the bullshit.

not to mention modded has way more redstone shit.
>>
>>161084902
why haven't you tried modded yet?

it's really easy to get into. years ago i remember being reluctant because i thought i'd have to memorize a ton of recipes, but it turns out there are mods that fix that quickly display recipes for anything.

Discords kill threads and are very much a reddit thing.
Only good use for them is containment when you already have a circlejerk, or for individual servers, or other things that are not anonymous.

Since no one ever talks about skype in the thread, I assume it's ded, or people who actually use it know how to contain themselves.

Hello dear /mcg/, it's been a while since I kept up with Minecraft.
What modpacks are the recommended/least worse now? Last one I played around with was with one of the thousands of iterations of the FTB main pack, Infinity Evolved I believe, but now I can't even install the launcher anymore because it's been replaced by some curse client thing that gives me nothing but a Windows Installer error. Is it kill? What should I do if I want lots of industry mods with a little pint of magic?

I do notice there's a "Curse Modpack Downloader" on the OP, but I'm not quite sure what to make of it/to do with it

Yes I'll play
Of course admins can play on their own server, why wouldn't they be allowed to

I would love to, but sadly I never took the time to learn how to mod minecraft on a "mod by mod" basis, so to speak, so I tend to stick with the big, bloated releases.

I ended up just getting a gtx 1070 to replace my R9 280 3GB which will be here in a week that I promise to not just use to play minecraft

I'll be able to see if it is poor driver support or just the architecture not up to par with Nvidia.

Hoboserb has a discord, but with the serb ded, it's kinda wonk right now.

I've been working on a TFC instance with basically those addon, progress up to some machine age with IE and Railcraft/trains in general, and TC as a sidegrade for magic around iron, but without any oregen alterations and ShinColle as a lategame thing and resource sink. So all the basic TC materials aside from Greatwood would have to be created with the alchemy part or maybe crafting. I'm maybe halfway through adjusting recipes and shit but stopped fixing that for now because I wasn't at that point in my personal playthrough anyway. I wouldn't mind finishing this and maybe adding something else, then throwing it on a server in a couple days.

I'm about halfway finished setting it up. Would you be okay with the world having a pre-existing rail system that was made about a year ago using worldedit? It was created to give players a way to travel anywhere from 5,000 to 25,000+ blocks away to a variety of different biomes without nether traveling or anything like that. Players will still have to make their own mine carts to use it. But if more than half of people don't want that and just want a completely new world with no rail system, then that's how I'll start the world off

Ah, fuck, I just remembered that IC2 nerfs the blast resistance from obsidian. That's it. Checking through DimDoors's code, it looks like nearly all blocks from the mod itself, as well as blocks of lapis, iron, gold, diamond and emerald are immune to rifts, and lastly anything with a blast resistance higher than 5000 as well.
Time to get Wawla to see what else works I suppose

I decompiled the source of the 1.6.4 version, stupidly thought it would be easier to port, on a whim, and I can sort of see why what calclavia, the author, wanted, never took off.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a new modpack for my server. I couldn't decide which one, so if you don't mind take a survey and select the one you like best. http://www.strawpoll.me/11739275

This was done with only command blocks, structure blocks, armor stands and many of vanilla techniques, and apart from TC there isnt something that looks like this in modded. Which makes me think of the possibilities of vanilla players when they get the shitty Mod API, considering that they are used to work with nothing.
>>
>>161173728
Still shit in comparison to actually working with proper under-the-hood code. Dude should've used all that time to learn how to do that instead of wasting it on command block fuckery with no application outside of MC.
>>
>>161174151
Sadly vanillas playerbase and content creator of it its bigger than modded ones, and its impressive that they work with barebones and do impressive things like remaking pokemon red in minecraft or making phonecalls inside the game, tho I like what he did and wish a mod did something like that.

Mekanism has the Atomic Disassembler, which is a multitool that can hoe, veinmine ores and trees, and has variable speed settings for regular mining. Also hits mobs for a bunch of damage.
Immersive Engineering also adds a mining drill that you can put different heads on.

i enjoy infinity evolved on 1.7.10

go for the mekanism atomic disassembler. it can mine (somewhat) a large portion of all blocks
(in my experience)
>>
>>161174950
Actually Additions has a drill, it's upgradable by putting cards inside of it, you only have 5 slots to do this and higher versions of upgrades require previous upgrades, but you can comfortably get a 5x5 silktouch 2/3rds max speed drill going. Pair that with a 16m rf battery from the mod in your inventory and you can rip holes through the world.

No questbook, but at least there's JEI.

Case in point, for a Wand of the Forest you need a Spellweaver Lance from Roots. Other obsurvations are the requirement of Empowered Enori Crystals (Actually Additions) for a Metallurgic Infuser (Mekanism), many things for Applied Energistics requiring lategame Psimetals, EnderIO basic capacitors require ExU2 Resonating Redstone crystals, Forestry Sturdy Casing requires 1k Storage blocks from Refined Storage, IE Treated Wood Planks requires Evilcraft Undead planks, RFTools Machine Frames requiring Calculator Advanced Assemblies, TiC is completely out in favor of Silent's Gems, and Pam's Harvestcraft is out in favor of The Agricultural Revolution.

...Overall, I'm digging it, even though I'm confused as fuck on how some of these mods work. I'm assuming I just haven't mined enough to find the necessary ores.
>>
>>161183996
Depends on how many utility mods I have that make transportation, travel, building and expanding territory easier. If the answer is not many than I might just bunker down in a single building and compact all of my activities to it. If you've got a lot of good dynamic options then it's no longer a pain to go large scale, like really even just having a builder's wand or travel anchors for example frees up so many design options while still keeping your productivity high. Otherwise if it feels like I'm having to spend entire days running from one side of the complex to the other just to add a couple more blocks the wall it feels like I'm wasting my time, and well you really do, and your huge awesome base starts to feel terrible when it becomes a hassle to enjoy.

>>161190863
Not at the moment. I looked at all the mods on the first page of this forum http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/forum/29-addons-applications/ and added the ones that seemed like a good fit. The only one I can think of that I might add in the near future is this one http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/topic/7587-tfc-07926-udary-mod-galenalimonite-extraction-ingame-alloy-calculator-tucker-bag-evaporator-pan-drying-mat/?page=1 which adds functionality to two useless ores and fixes a balance/RNG issue in TFC (nickel is unreasonably rare, but necessary to progress through the tech tree). But I'm open to suggestions that would keep the core TFC gameplay intact

That's why I've been working on that pack that integrates TC, IE and RC into TFC. While I immensely enjoy the basic TFC playstyle, it has absolutely nothing to do after getting through the early "survival" part. Building, while rewarding, is a chore more than anything for things larger than a hut and resource procurement becomes a hassle as well after a while.

I mean, it's basically what you've got there, except with those mods (and some others) added on top, so if people are interested, I'll finish this up and provide y'all with it.
>>
>>161194364
I think the right kind of economy or community in general could do wonders for longevity. Look at 2b2t for example. It offers nothing more than vanilla gameplay but, over the years, players have taken it to such extremes that it's become a unique kind of vanilla server in its own right. I think that player-driven competitions and more encouragement/rewards for exploring could add a special something to an otherwise normal TFC server

You say "so you are talking about mojang" as if it isn't the case, everyone knows mojang is shit at development.

Not the original guy you are quoting, but honestly, in my opinion, it's not who does it first, but who does it best. I'd rather someone who works for profit and does a good job than someone who works on passion and does a worse job

That said, chickebones did the same. NEI was a TMI clone, if you remember back that far.

From what I recall, isn't NEI just TMI with recipe lookup? If so, then you could also make an argument he just doubled down on lacking the creativity you deem so important because that was also a feature of that one recipe book mod of the time.

Please correct me if I am wrong though. What ways is NEI not a clone of TMI?

JEI is very nice, honestly. More mods seem to be able to get their recipes in compared to NEI, so it's more informative for the purposes of looking up recipes. For instance, nei needed a number of addons for a number of it's recipe lookups, so it's at least better for the end user in not having to keep up with various extra plugins.

But aside from also being able to do the /give command for you, it doesn't do much else. no inventory saving, no time/creative/health control, no "is this spot dark enough for a mob to spawn", no chunk grids (though vanilla does this now with f3+g)

How does it look if you just pass everything through the pixelize function in GIMP? The entire pack to arbitrary pixelization less than 16x would only take the amount of time you'd need to read up on language binding documentation and write the program to apply it to all the relevant image files.

You could do this then manually refine as necessary.

My opinion is: why is storage a balancing point?

You have an infinite world, you can store as much shit as you want by just plopping down chests all over, and all that costs is wood (maybe iron if you really gotta squinch in that extra space). With iron chests, you are just paying for a bit of convenience.

To each their own though. I don't mind slight conveniences being cheap, but I can understand not feeling rewarded for it if you don't pay more up front.

You don't need to use a spigot to cast things from the smeltery. Any fluid pipe works.

It's more the fact that I'll need to constantly remove and reinsert some other molten metal in the smeltery all the time to let it keep killing Endermen, I won't be able to do that on a smeltery that I use for other things.

Heh. I did a setup where there were two molten metals and an ender fluid conduit with whitelists on two of its connections. >>
>>161234136
>why would they want to backport something less functional that forces the issue of other stuff that you probably won't even find good solutions for in 1.7.10

Because the mod itself started being worked on in October, 1.5 months before Forge on 1.8 even existed? Final 1.7.10 commit: https://github.com/mezz/JustEnoughItems/tree/8138e208be24c56e12943958cd7ce3370fe2a9ac

Why would anyone develop this for 1.7.10 when, according to you, nobody wanted an alternative? The truth is - very few modders liked using NEI's APIs for recipe handler registration, which is why so few mods had them built in and addons for NEI written by different people, more well-versed with NEI's API, had to be used. In addition, many of NEI's more advanced features caused performance issues - features which JEI gets rid of.

>there's something disturbing about the entire idea you propose.

I haven't proposed a single idea, I have only stated facts as they are known to me.

Depends on the mods and plugins you guys have.
If they have something logs player events like breaking blocks like essentials then yeah, they'll know exactly every thing you've been doing on the server. Again, depends on the exact mods or plugins you've got, sometimes you can't open doors period, but if it's one of them that lets you open it but immediately closes it you can sometimes throw an enderpearl into the area, though looting and breaking stuff is still another story.

Which is better, Thaumcraft or Botania?
>>
>>161285264
TC, it is much better at holding your attention.
Not even going to go into drama about botania, but botania is very shallow compared to something like TC.
No real replay value, but with TC, the only thing that really gets old is the research.
Might just be because of how many addons tc has.
>>
>>161285264
Thaumcraft is generally more comprehensive and easier to build around thematically.

Botania's not as bad as some of the anti-vazkii folk around here would lead you to beleive, but it should really be thought of as a more comprehensive extra-utilities/random-things type mod. If you like what items in botania do, use it.

That said, botania can be surprisingly alright if done by itself. it's designed to be pretty well self contained. it's just so many other mods can cheapen botania that you might not realize you have a mod with good systems going on right under your nose.

it being a sandbox means you don't HAVE to do the goals, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be any. Terraria's a sandbox with plenty of little goals, and it's a great experience.
>>
>>161286301
Thuamcraft has a clear endgame via tools, wands, armor, dimension.

Botania you play around with flowers and you get mediocre level trinkets, that equal entry teir compared to other mods

>>
>>161286301
>>161286498
No "true" sandbox can be a game - it is a toy, at most.

I hate being required to explain obvious shit word-by-word for stupid people. But here I go...

>No "true" sandbox can be a game - it is a toy, at most.
The main difference between a toy and a game is a set of rules. Games *require* rules; toys cannot have rules.
In a "true sandbox", there are no rules at all, you're supposed to do whatever you want with the environment and the player-environment interactions. Thus a "true sandbox" like Creative Mode is not a game but a toy, and Survival is not a true sandbox but a _game_ with sandbox-like elements.

>being a sandbox does NOT exclude some kind of progression
In this case, "sandbox" = "game with sandbox-like elements". I hope this alone is enough to let the sentence clear.

More to come.

Any underrated\less known but good hqm\bq\mapbased packs any of you know? I recently digged through fucktruck of them and the amount of skyblock and generally just garbage shit is astounding.
The only good i experienced so far are obviously Blightfall, Obscurity somewhat (at least has a theme and an idea around it), enjoying Banished at the moment (based around nip mod Cave World, fucking spooky as shit, siege and AI mods makes it so everything miles across knows where you are and actively hunts you including digging walls and building bridges and exploding just to get to your little cave intersection in the middle of endless unlit cave system)
Also had "some" fun with GT new horizon, very nicely tweaked around to tie up the progress all around in one tight progression line, but it's fucking GT and i gave up. I have no idea how this can be even remotely fun, literally manifestation of babysitting the retarded machines: the mod.

they're not an interesting mechanic since you have no actual counter to it. they're just RNG.
>>
>>161330693

Weeds will overtake 10/10/10 plants too.

You made a mistake by leaving a crop stick without planting anything on it. That's the only way you can get weeds.
>>
>>161330897
So if I'm trying to hybridize I have to sit and wait to make sure no weeds pop up?
>>
>>161330268
Thaumcraft is a tech mod you faggot. Just with more monsters and sparkles than usual.
>>
>>161331018

You can walk away for a few minutes. It takes a while for the weed to get fully grown before it spreads. You just can't ignore it for hours. It's also a good idea to leave some space between your breeding area and your crop fields so you don't lose everything to weeds.

Growth boosters like sprinklers, agricarnations, and a watering can will make the hybrid pop up faster. There are also config options to let you use bone meal on the cross crops for instant breeding, or to disable weeds entirely.

No one is asking for hobo necessarily, but using a premade pack is just no.
And serbs have to be kitchen sinks, or they won't attract enough players.
>>
>>161342371
Eh. I just never saw any fun or enjoyment out of using mods that are worse or barely on par with Vanilla gameplay. And that's what Thaumcraft and Botania are. Blood Magic is more tech than magic, requiring you to actually build things and consider infrastructure to automate its things, while TC4 and Botania can all be automated in less than thirty seconds with vanilla materials, and they don't play nice with any other mods. (Most of the TC addons clash with TC itself, which is a real shock.)
>>
>>161341853
I dunno, hobopack repeatedly, in several iterations, had the kind of problem where the worldgen had five different kinds of copper, and no aluminum at all. I would expect better than that from any premade pack.
>>
>>161342647
It isn't about (you) or (you)r taste though, that's the point.
The point is you want to appeal to as many kinds of players as possible to make the serb not ded.

>>161343194
While true, I just don't see how people could enjoy themselves slogging through a mod that makes them worse off than someone just playing a vanilla run.

How is shit like the building/mining/flamethrower wands 'barely on par' with vanilla?
>>
>>161345338
By building massive vanilla farms for the materials needed, and using TC's heinously bad piping system to try to get them to where you need.

Besides, with infusion crafting you're only going to be using it what, two or three times maximum at a time. It's not like with BM where you'll need like 200 slates for a new ritual.

>>161345832
The mining wands, even at full upgrade, are no faster than an iron pickaxe. Flamethrower wands are about as strong as a wooden sword. And I've never heard of a building wand myself.
>>
>>161345903
Mining wands, when upgraded, mine about as fast as an efficiency diamond pick, depending on the material. They also have range. I don't like or use these wands that much, but you are underselling them

Same with the fire focus, when upgraded, it can 2 shot many common mobs, and does AOE damage, something a wooden sword isn't going to do. It's main flaw is there are many enemies immune to fire.

The building wand is kind of shit in my opinion. it just makes columns of a material appear. it use it's uses, but it's not as good as other styles of building wands
>>
>>161345903
The excavation focus works on shovel/axe blocks, has a much longer range, way more durability and can recharge itself.

I've not played TC4 in awhile but just flicking through the wiki you've got shit like portals, water-walking boots, golems and the flying body amour thing
>>
>>161346303
The mining wands were always laughably slow. Even at base, they're slower than using your fists to break stone.

>Does AOE damage, something a wooden sword isn't going to do
Combat update gave all swords a 3-block wide sweeping attack on a full charge and crouched swing. Granted the target you hit takes full damage and everything else takes half a heart, it's still an AoE that can be taken advantage of.

You are right, the sword can do aoe. I would classify this as defensive aoe though, it's purpose is to push things away instead of kill them, considering it's low damage. I would say the two don't compare at all.
>>
>>161347547

No arguments there. But it's here and here to stay sadly, so just have to adjust or stay forever on 1.7.10

>>161347982

>>
>>161359525
Yes that one works
>>
>>161359038
Uh.... because that's fairly advanced stuff anon, well at least for your average amateur minecraft modder. One of the biggest reasons why there isn't support or tutorials for the more advanced and niche concepts is that you honestly should know Java by now. Like really at that point it's not so much knowing Forge but knowing your Java. You're better off dusting off your old Java book or taking a class than a tutorial to make Forge do something it really isn't meant for. At least that's what it sounds like to me, reflection and other runtime overrides. Like Forge is there to make your mods work together, not overwrite the other guy's mod. You might want to just fork the mod and rewrite it as opposed trying to inject all sorts of spaghetti code into it. Even if it's not opensource there's still ways like BON that can recompile the jars for you to butcher up and repackage.
>>
>>161360901
I'm not sure what a lot of those esoteric terms mean, but I think that what you're suggesting is what I want to do: rewriting as few lines of code in a mod as possible to use the mechanics it already has in a slightly different way. Also, I don't have any books on java; this thought/desire only occurred to me today, as I have previously had no reason to pick up this skillset - and once I'm done with this, I'll have no further use for it, thus giving me no reason to spend years of my life pursuing it further

Warp's fine, negligible even (especially if ran alongside botania with it's 10 hour warp ward incense)

>>
>>161361136
What mod is it anon.

Option 1. - The simplest thing you can do is find the developer's website or github and fork their project, then modify a few of the lines like you want and produce your own version of the mod. If it's opensource everything should only take an hour to do.
Option 2 - The hard way is to to spend a week or up to a month learning reflection and other wizardry to make your mod inject code during the program's runtime. It's bad practice and a lot more work.
Option 3 - Convince the developer to change their mechanics or make a special version for you, or commission another coder to do it you their place.
>>
>>161361795
So would it be easier to just not install optifine?
all I want is some of the little aesthetic changes offered by some of the options, and I have no idea what the level of ease is to disable all the extraneous stuff

Paying money or items on 2b2t for a metadata removal glitch that works for non-block items on 2b2t. Keep in mind that glitches like block update suppression won't work since the glitch needs to work for non-block items, and glitches like the one where you shift click items into an anvil won't work since those are patched on 2b2t. If you're interested and think you can get this to work on 2b2t, post an email address or other means of contacting you.

Another wanna be coder here. Something I thought of while at work today was noticing a stark similarity between TFC and the game Wurm. The way things are generally a pain in the ass to do/make in both games. So the thought here is just working up some system to TFC that adds a lot more skills like Wurm has and introduce Quality levels so people have a reason to trade and interact and not just going solo doing everything.

Probably dumb and I'm just going to go play Cities Skyline for a bit, but feel free to tell me it's a shit idea or not.

The server list doesn't have a private community filtering and screening submissions anymore.

We had to change it to a public format because the previous owners and care takers honestly weren't playing the game or weren't interested anymore and were taking up to months to update and add submissions, and when we are talking about serbs that need to be spontaneously active and only live for a week to up to a month, bypassing that election process was needed. Although we give up quality and well filtered submissions, we can make on the fly changes and tweaks as necessary to keep said server's and their communities well informed and able to jump into the game and play with their friends as fast as possible, because lets be honest most people don't want to wait for anything.

Regarding public editing of the server list, it's been going pretty good, despite 4chan's reputation random people editing it leave it in a good condition and malicious edits are seldom and rare. It's been like this for a year or more now and it's proven to be an effective formula, but yes we do see what would appear to be "lower quality" submissions.

I do feel that having a larger variety is a good thing too however, more choices, more possibilities; who knows maybe that server that appears unsavory could be a load of fun, you never know until you try it. One more thing too, we do say once a month go through the listing and prune any obviously dead servers and so on.

Not that guy but I've had that idea too. Something like woodworking and sculpting that decreases tool wear, woodcutting for further increased log yields, stuff like that. Just stuff that gives more reason to specialize or at least focus on one part while not locking you out of others would do wonders for TFC MP without adding more blocks and items. But that's the tricky part, that is, as other anons have said, far more advanced stuff than probably most people are capable of here (except for confirmed mod devs, but they all die after a month or two) and we'll probably see more of a decrease in that and the overall complexity of TFC with the remake that's now in production.

Sounds good to me. You can do this in-game with tools, weapons, and armor. If you smith them yourself, the more often you smith that category of item, the higher its durability will be. If you use a clay tool mold to make one automatically instead of making it at an anvil, its durability will be the baseline amount

Though in 1.8+ one of the rules has become "No infinite durability" because of MAWPC bullshit you find in 1.7.10.

Absolutely incorrect. Make something out of 2 parts paper for 5 modifiers (the maximum) and slap 5 reinforcements on it. you now have a tool that will never break, so long as the other parts don't increase damage per use (like manyullyn or obsidian) Of course, this also means the tool is kind of not that great since it can't be upgraded in any other way. Cobalt unbreakable tools are pretty nice still.

>RTG is basically a port/fork of ATG but for 1.8+
Wrong, there's a RTG version for 1.7.10 and it's much more stable than the ones for 1.8+.
Also, ATG and RTG are two completely different things. RTG is a fork of RWG focused on making vanilla biomes good instead of adding its own things.
>>
>>161416292
Yes, you still need to manually mine, but there's so little effort involved you may as well be playing creative. You may notice the phrase says "may as well", not "you're literally playing creative". It's so incredibly tiny not just spawning the blocks at that point is nothing but a formality.

Minecraft is already an extremely easy game. I seriously don't see why you want to make it even easier
>>
>>161428819
I imagine it's not a point of ease but a point of tedium.
Making the game easier would be using quarries, because it doesn't speed up a process, it completely does it for you with little to not manual input or thought on your part once it's running. Using tcon tools just speeds things up that you still have to do yourself. A hammer isn't going to go into the mines and dig things up for you, you are still physically doing all the work and taking time from what other things you'd be doing, you are just doing it with less time per block mined. it's no easier or harder, just faster/less tedious.
