I put the undub person of SMTIV: Apocalypse on my 3DS and I managed to get the USA DLC working using Luma Locale Switcher. 11.0-11.2 firmwares cannot be hacked by themselves, but a hacked system transfer from a console that is already hacked will allow you to hack the newer console. So, you can help your friend through that no matter what console he buys.

I've got around 5000 hours of playtime between MH3U, MK8 and Splatoon. It was worth it just for those three games alone. I skipped the Wii so I finally got to play the space Marios which are good fun. Then there's Bayonetta, Pikmin 3 and Tropical Freeze which is probably the best platformer ever made.

The keys for encrypting game eboots are in the .rif license, which you can decrypt with the act.dat, which you can decrypt with the console ID.

At least, if the system works the same way as the PS3 and PSP.

A noobie programmer wants to load a string into memory. They forget to check how big that string is.
The attacker writing an exploit puts a fuckhuge string into that slot that contains code they want to execute. The string is so big that it exceeds the memory allocated for it and overwrites part of the stack. When that function wants to return, the return pointer now points wherever the attacker wants it to point and he can jump to whatever bit of memory he wants to execute. Probably he's written his code into that string.
