The thing is, after the shard reaches last stage (gray pulsing) it doesn't really make much difference how many emitters you shoot at it.
After it reaches a softcap in power/heat generation the efficiency of emitters diminish drastically. You can see that with the same triple cooling system it's still stable after increasing the emitter count by 70%.
Not much difference in power/collector either.

I must thank every carbon in that round for not butting in my work though.

1) shot at a man with lethals, after the detective accidentally did so first. Apparently, you were chasing someone else. The assistant you shot was holding a guitar and had only just arrived on station.
2) when the man you'd just injured grabbed his pistol with practice rounds and shot you and the detective, you reciprocated by breaking his skull with lethals again. You could have known the bullets were fake, because you were only knocked down for less than a second. Moreover, basically everyone had a pistol like that with similar rounds, because a massive supply was in the medbay lobby.
