SFM you have to either do everything yourself, which is a shitton of work, or hope to find stuff that is not only not shit but also something you like. Which gets way the fuck harder when you get more specific in what you want to masturbate to. Bethesda porn mods however, give you a great deal of control over everything involved with far less effort on the consumer's part. Not to mention SFM has no real capacity to provide an interactive expirence or for the pconsumer to tell their own smutty tale.

the NCR has food and water shortages, their government is corrupted from the top to the bottom, there is mass civil unrest due to how they just take everything they want, and only worsened by how much people dislike the war they are in.

House is an egomaniac douchebag who is so blinded by his ego he can't see straight, and all of his plans for the future are laughably unrealistic.

The Legion is nothing but a large slave army that has no civilian structure, and is bound to quickly collapse because no one follows Caesar's ideals, the only follow the man. And once he dies they will tear eachother apart in civl war over the throne.

Yes Man is basically just you holding the region hostage with an army of robots, and generally reuslts in nobody gaining anything, and no lives really getting better

I'm not following. They're only real comparison is their outlook on technology. While the Legion shuns it and seeks to destroy scientific advancement, the Brotherhood all but idolize it and seek to horde it.
BoS is small, Legion is... well Legion.
BoS have nearly no outside recruitment and are almost entirely dependent on succession (and hiring playing characters) while the Legion is running around swallowing entire cultures and adding them to their ranks.
BoS has a fairly wide command structure with multiple splinter groups, one leader dying wouldn't even bring down their specific sect. The Legion is entirely reliant on their Lord-God-Emperor Caesar, him alone dying would cast the entire Legion into chaos.

So pretty much outside of going after others for technology, they have no commonality.

The additional Legion locations would have had more traveling non-Legion residents of Legion territories. The Fort and Cottonwood Cove made sense as heavy military outposts where the vast majority of the population consisted of soldiers and slaves. The other locations would have had more "civilians". It's not accurate to think of them as citizens of the Legion (the Legion is purely military), but as non-tribal people who live in areas under Legion control.
While Caesar intentionally enslaves NCR and Mojave residents in the war zone, most of the enslavement that happens in the east happens to tribals. As Raul indicates, there are non-tribal communities that came under Legion control a long time ago. The additional locations would have shown what life is like for those people.
The general tone would have been what you would expect from life under a stable military dictatorship facing no internal resistance: the majority of people enjoy safe and productive lives (more than they had prior to the Legion's arrival) but have no freedoms, rights, or say in what happens in their communities. Water and power flow consistently, food is adequate, travel is safe, and occasionally someone steps afoul of a legionary and gets his or her head cut off. If the Legion tells someone to do something, they only ask once -- even if that means an entire community has to pick up and move fifty miles away. Corruption within the Legion is rare and Caesar deals with it harshly (even by Legion standards).

In short, residents of Legion territories aren't really citizens and they aren't slaves, but they're also not free. People who keep their mouths shut, go about their business, and nod at the rare requests the Legion makes of them -- they can live very well.

The BoS are efficiently the Legion is the Legion was actually built sensibly.

The BoS, like the Legion, are a cult, but unlike the Legion, the BoS are an actual cult of ideals, following the ideals of Roger Maxson, rather then the man himself(not that they dont revere Maxson OFC)

This cult like mentality gives them a near single minded focus, with very little internal problems that amount to anything, and has allowed them to drive themselves to be the single longest lasting faction in the post-war world.

The BoS are also like House, in that they will leverage the greatest of technologies to give them a nearly unmatched advantage over all enemies, but unlike House, who sold his humanity for technology, the BoS know where to draw the line, keeping themselves human, and able to sympathies with people, in the process.

The BoS(at least the Midwestern and Maxson branches) are also like the NCR, in that they are nation builders who know how to use something other then pure force to get people to ally with them.

Unlike the NCR however, the BoS does not force the towns/settlements it allies with to follow a strict set of rules, and generally lets people do whatever they want, avoiding the civil unrest problem the NCR has.

The BoS's cult based organization also eliminates most of the corruption problems the NCR has as well.

the Midwestern and Maxson BoS are, in many ways, effectively the perfect fusion of the NCR, House, and Legion, which is probably why they have lasted so long with such few problems.

I took psycho once to kill a Glowing one 20 levels above me when I was in the Glowing Sea. My power armor and jetpack eliminates the need for Jet for doing extreme parkour jumps.

The drugs will wear off by then.

How most people do it is take all those Charisma increasing drugs, go to a settlement, and send everyone there to the settlement you want to increase the cap of.

With Combat boots + shirt combo and all Sharp legendary armor + those drugs listed, you could get CHR up to 40 iirc. One of the DLCs might have added more CHR increasing stuff, like the Nuka-Mixes. Not sure.

Yes. You can make unlimited robots but they count towards the cap. You can have 20+ settlers and make loads of robots, you'll just have a really high cap.

Well the SS never even had a chance to raise him anyway. For all the trouble you go through for muh Shaun, synth Shaun doesn't really seem to do much in the game other than ask questions and break apart telephones you give him. I suppose thats normal behavior for a kid, but would have been neat for him to have personal quests like telling him the truth about Kellogg and his mother...or even telling him he's a synth. I figure he's bound to find out eventually especially if he doesn't age.

This is the worst thing about Bethesda holding Fallout hostage.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for the occasional alien popping up as a random occurrence or easter egg, but actually having them influence story related stuff is ridiculous and it completely undermines what Fallout is.

I've often though it'd be neat to have a sidequest where you investigate missing people and you wonder around a foggy forest hearing an alien transmission, but nothing happens in it other than getting spooked. I don't mind fun or interesting shit like that, but anything beyond is pushing it.

If you go back and replay Fallout 3 and its DLC, only 5 places are talked about o nthe same level of importance
1. The Capital Wasteland
2. The Pitt

Pihlly is mentioned as simply being in ruins, and "that dump" in Fallout 3, and NYC isn't mentioned at all, nor is it mentioned in Fo4 either.

If Bethesda wanted to imply post-war NYC was important, they would have, they have not.

The thing we have to consider is that, even if they made games like Fallout 1/2 in terms of map, it would still take like 30+ games to cover all of America.

On this city by city thing, it would take like 40+ to just to even begin to cover all of America's big cities.

We also have to consider that in some places, like the eastern part of the Midwest, and the Upper East Coast, there are a number of large cities within stones throw of each other.

At some point the devs have to pick and chose where they want to go, and many large cities will be left in the dust.

I personally thing Philly and NYC were Bethesda's sacrificial lambs for the east coast

We got Washington D.C., and Boston, both ends of the BosWash super metropolitan area, and its time to move on.

Either into Canada, into the south, or into the Midwest.

Philly would just be Fallout 3: 2 Electric Boogaloo, and NYC has a large number of technical hurdles to overcome.

I suspect we will see cities like Toronto, Chicago, Miami, New Orleans, and one of the big Texas cities as guaranteed future Fallout games.

They may even do a Nashville or similar game to fill in the south a bit.

Ashur implies Ronto has something of a powerful military, maybe the result of all the U.S. soldiers stationed in Canada to put down riots, and thier decedents forming some BoS-like order but thats more totalitarian.

I could also see Bethesda picking up the unused plots of Tactics 2, and BoS 2, where a GECK gets irradiated, turning large parts of the southeast into a dangerous jungle of hostile plant life.

I liked FO3 well enough mechanically but everything else was shit.
NV blew FO3 out of the water for me and I played it for hundreds of hours.
I modded NV to be hard as balls, with 'realistic' weapon damage, making my character as frail as possible and removing the ability to become a demi-god.

I passed up FO4 because it looked like cawadooty: super mutant baddies edition.
Are there mods yet that emulate Vicious Wastes' features yet and allow me to make the game hard as balls? And what exactly does the hardcore mode do?

The thing is by reducing damage done and limiting health it also reduces difficulty. damage multipliers in survival are now 1/1.

When I was making it I wondered why damage boosts have to be so crazy and damage multipliers so low. If you brought them closer together then it would make more playstyles viable and take away some of the survival bullshit.

In survival Adrenaline bonuses are also nerfed, and stims heal somewhat faster but for a lot less.

Check the readme. The level cap is 125 now.

Some trees take more points, sure, but they also have their level requirements lowered/removed. So you no longer have to idly plop points into random shit while you wait for lvl 5 rifleman or something. Besides, I rather like level caps. Limits the build and forces you to choose something.

That's what the whole mod is about. Making as many playstyles as varied and interesting as possible. Flamers are really strong now due to the fact you can douse enemies in oil before setting fire to them, the double-barreled shotgun is retardedly good, and the robotics, turrets, and barricade perks means you can play an engineer who never fires a single shot. Or grab good natured and stroll through raider camps without turning a single head.

That said, if you wanna try, I'll be pushing out a new version later today, so hold your horses.

Very. Look at the readme and check out the changes to Blitz and Big leagues. With a limited supply of SPECIAL, I'd argue that pure AGI is better than STR due to the final perk of Big leagues and Blitz, as well as Ninja's crit boost if you're running 1H

Why does none of the factions in F4 use any robots for combat ? I know most of them probably don't have means to manufacture them and the Institute prefers their own tech, but what about the Brotherhood and Railroad ?

There's enough of them around the wastelands for an occasional capture and reprogramming and I think I saw some defence robots wrecks in the Switchboard so I guess Railroad used some for defence. It would make sense for them to have some stashed away in safehouses to pull out when subterfuge and cover ops fail, while BoS could have some of their Vertibirds airlift Sentry bots and drop them along with some Knights and Aspirants for patrols.

Creature overhaul: Chameleon Deathclaws can now go invisible similar to a stealth boy, with a fade-out animation where their skin glows. This lasts for about 15 seconds, and the deathclaws are all but entirely invisible.

Crippling the head will disable this, as well as dropping Chameleons below 15% HP.

It's also not as varied of a series.
Skyrim still "feels" like Morrowind in a lot of ways, they didn't fundamentally change the lore, they didn't change the genre of the gameplay (it's still an FPS/TPS style melee/magic game) and it's still about doing obscure fantasy shit.

The problem is the continued removal of mechanics and variety and streamlining shit. So, there's people who want to turn Skyrim into Morrowind or make Morrowind with Skyrim's engine, which is all doable, whereas trying to make Fallout 4 "like" 1 or 2 is basically impossible, and attempting to remake either of those games with Fallout 4's engine would just make a shitty game.

Adding spears and levitation into Skyrim is infinitely simpler to do.

Honestly, they actually have more than enough power for that even without the reactor.

The synths have almost none of the drawbacks of a larger army, they don't eat or get sick, they don't desert their positions if things turn sour, they don't sabotage each other to try and climb the totem pole.

They feel no fear and can operate without a problem in heavily radiated areas like the glowing sea.

In a war of attrition the minuteman would get cumber stomped to oblivion, and the Institute was already mass producing synths when the minuteman was still in its infancy, granted they tried to work peacefully with the minuteman at first, but when that failed they instantly went into hiding from a enemy that had 0% chances of winning a war against them, instead of fielding a official position of power in the commonwealth, something that would allow them much better access to resources and a much easier time in recruiting talented people, they wasted years pouring scarce resources into replacing people with synths who were in turn captured by the railroad and rewritten, netting a 0% net gain for the institute in this whole thing.

They dont have resources to win a war but they can afford to endless produce and lose synths to the railroad like they have been doing for years before the game even began?

The mutants would be out of the picture in this case, the institute released the failed experiments with FEV in the commonwealth because they wanted to weaken the surface dwellers and keep them in check, if they were to have a official position this would not be necessary, super mutants in the surface of the commonwealth would simply not exist.

Raiders only go for easy targets, synths dont use power armor in the game, but I am sure the institute could program them to use power armor, a group of synths using power armor to patrol and protect the top five settlements in the commonwealth would stop any group of raiders from trying their chances, they fight you in the game because the ai is set kill mode forever, but no one in reality would try to take down a group of walking tanks while armed only with shitty pipe pistols , and you cannot bribe or buy a synth soldier into opening the gates for your group of raider friends.

If the institute were to set a city like diamond city, offering good food and protection against raiders in exchange for manual labor, they would get overwhelmed by entire families willing to join them, a lot of people would weep tears of gratitude over the fact that they can sleep in peace and not worry about their daughters being made into fucktoys for raiders, and the more people they get on their side the more guys they can train to work and fight for the institute, making any raider attack even less possible.

In fact if the Institute played their cards right the Brotherhood would not even dare to declare war against the protectors of the commonwealth, no matter how much butthurt they can get over the fact that the institute tech is infinitely superior to what they have.

But I guess living in a basement and watching farmers fuck is more rewarding for the institute.

Because Far Harbor alone has more content in it then three of Fallout 3's DLC,

And Nuka world has more content in it then two of Fallout 3's DLC

Meaning with Far Harbor and Nuka world you get more content then you got from Fallout 3'S DLC.

Far Harbor alone has more quests in it then all of Fallout 3's DLC combined.

FH is the biggest bit of dlc by landmass that bethesda has ever done and has a multitude of endings and a healthy amount of sidequests and shit to explore. NW is somewhere between DG and DB and has a far healthier side quest pool as well as also having a rather fun set of environments to play in.

This is objectively wrong. LR is the by far the weakest NV DLC (not counting Courier's Stash). I think people forget ED-E even exists in this DLC, who quite frankly carries it over the bullshit with Ulysses, The Tunnelers and as you said, corridors full of enemies. Aesthetically it's far better designed that OA; the Marked Men are infinitely more better than ushanka wearing clones with recycled dialogue.

Bethesda peaked with Shivering Isles regarding DLC imo. The Pitt and Point Lookout come close regarding the stories they tell, and Dragonborn is very nice from a design point of you, but Shivering Isles encompasses both these qualities and increases them tenfold.

I honestly consider FO4's dlc to be pretty great. Even automatron that seemed to me like such a nothing dlc ended up being very enjoyable. I think Far Harbor is one of the best campaigns Beth has made as well.

The biggest problem with OBsidian is that they have no subtly in their writing.

Every NPCs in just unrealistically blunt in putting whatever "message" they wanted that NPC to get across.

You see this a lot in New Vegas where many NPCs do nothing put parrot basically the same stock line of

"well the NCR aren't as mean as the Legion, but they are corrupt, and while the Legion are bad dudes, they keep their lands safer!"

Without any sort of tact that would make it seem like this is that person's opinion instead of "hey, the point of the game is that democracies aren't perfect, and dictatorships aren't all bad guys!"

It was really bad in Dead Money, where you could replace 99% of the dialogue with "CAN'T LET GO!" and "YOU GOTTA LET GO!" and get the same result.

There is no tact, no finesse, no mystery, almost nothing NPCs say sound like an honest opinion, and instead comes off as a canned response only slightly better then Morrowind's literally copy-pasted dialogue responses.

That and there is a lot of SJWism from Sawyer and the guys who wrote Tyranny.

I think it comes from an inability to get out of the isometric game mindset, where poor graphics, and limited control, means you HAVE to have NPCs just talk what amounts too verbal diarrhea to get anything across.

Modern games have large systems of books, notes, terminals, emails, codexs, etc. etc., so they can make NPCs sound less like information dumps, and more like people.

Obsidian, even in games like New Vegas, still stick to this isometric style where NPCs just tell you everything, which makes them sound robots, and akin to walking help desks like Morrowind NPCs were(though not as bad as Morrowind's NPCs were)
