Previous thread >>160170376

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Was pretty cool watching 5 PD walk right past my water elementals to murder the casters several squares behind, not gonna lie.

But to be fair I did get to watch Lemuria lose his golem to Poison Touch so I guess it evens out.
>>
>>160438871
>>160439031
This will always happen if the elementals are not physically in the way of all PD. Target selection happens on the first round and the squad will retarget only when their target is dead. Always bring a 'lure' to keep your caster safe.
>>
>>160439157
Ah, see I thought they would "stick" to a new target if another part of the squad came into contact with it. I guess that's not actually the case.
>>
>>160439830
I've read a lot of weird things about troop behavior that just isn't true.

So, basically when a unit gets into melee, it will fight in melee. It won't disengage until it's routed. Units do this individually (well, as squares, but only because the individuals share squares) not as squads. There's no 'engagement range' and squads only share engagement if they all happen to run into the same thing or if the engaged squad is actually the squad's target.
>>
>>160440039
>It won't disengage until it's routed.
Oh, or if the thing it's engaged to is dead or routed. That'll break it too, naturally.

As a side note, this does yes mean that a big ol line set to attack rear will often have the sides of the line go past the fight and then swing back in at whatever squad
>>
>>160438041

I'm not really sure what this is saying. Summod made red guard good? A8 bless?

>>160440039

Sometimes stuff will get 'caught' behind squares that are 'engaged'. Other times stuff will not be able to become engaged but still be trying to. Sometimes though units will walk past something they can't get close to even if by their orders they should be targeting it - a single SC with them having 'attack closest' orders, if enough guys are stacked up around it, some will walk past.
>>
>>160440204
No, it gave a T'ien Chi commander straight up 8 levels of air magic.
>>
>>160439157

I also always bring a lure even when I expect the casts to physically block the way (ala creeping doom/skelespam) because arrows.
>>
>>160440409

Well that's one way to make people buy the generals I guess
>>
>>160440204

A typo in 0.68. Instead of giving Prince Generals one level of path eight, it provided eight levels of path one.

So, VanillaCataclysm unit access: A non-exhaustive list.

Brown has Oiorpatas, Enki's chosens, Basalt Kings, Ktonian Alchemists, Alchemists of the Five Elements, Skrattis and probably more.
Red has warlock apprentices, soul contracts and is being eaten by White.
Green has bats, Pans, and Sibyls and is eating Grey.
Grey has Heart Companions, warlock apprentices, galdermen, illuminated ones, trolls and is being gang-banged by Green and Aquamarine.
Aquamarine has Vanheres and Vanherses, High Seraphs, and the Steel Ovens.
White has Pans, Enkidu Shamans, Guhyakas, Shadow Vestals and Yeddeoni and is eating Red.
Pink is AI; Black, Purple and Beige are ded. Brown is the only one not involved in a conflict.

If I dont hear anything from either llama or Vampire Counts by 4 am GMT+1 I'll just just set him to AI on the game page so we can all get on with the game.
>>
>>160447651
You can't do that directly. You need to change their e-mail and have someone send in the go-AI turn
>>
>>160447651

Maybe give him more than 30 minutes to reply. Not really his fault his nation didn't work.
>>
>>160448402

>>160448432
4 am is in about seven hours
>>
>>160448402
Wait if someone needs to send in a go AI turn and he isnt in the game then we cant set him to AI. I'll have to unstart the thing again anyway.
>>
>>160447651
Hi, yeah that should work, alternatively unstart the game, I'll go whip up a pretender with the correct nation id, (or edit the one I have in a hex editor to have the correct id since I'm a hard cunt) and then resubmit.

I can't be around heaps, I'm currently five thousand kilometers away from home and working 12 hours at a time. I'll be flying home today so I'll be more available then.
>>
Grey and Aquamarine, do your fucking turn.
>>
>>160448673

If he isn't in the game you don't need to set AI or unstart or anything - simply play the game without him in it. That said,>>160448992. If he created a pretender with a version of the .dm that had a different nation ID, it would definitely not exist in the started game. I know the .dm changed a bunch of times during setup.
>>
>>160449451
I don't think it would work like that, llamaserver uses its own timing system, not the game's standard autohost system, so considering I just got a 12 hour reminder email, there's a good chance that llama would wait until I've submitted my turn, until I stale.
>>
>>160448992
Its never easy. Well I can extend the time if we need to as long as I know stuff is happening. Its not like people will get a worse start if we start over again.
This has the VC stuff changed to 109
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxQvrB13LOtabVVBUHlDWUpNVjA/view?usp=sharing
>>160449451
He is in the game page on llama but not actually in the game. As such llama is waiting for turns it cant get and isnt sending him anything either. Also the nation id was not changed while I was fucking around with the .dm, I just noticed that scrubwarriors had a working VC nation and I thought maybe the different id might have something to do with it.
>>
>>160449737
>I just noticed that scrubwarriors had a working VC nation and I thought maybe the different id might have something to do with it.
Yeah that's me, I just grabbed my SW sylvania pretender, since the counts mod I submitted was pulled out of the warhammer bundle mod that I sent you. I'm not sure why or how it has a different id now, but I'm sorry for being careless enough to just submit my pretender without testing it.
>>
>>160449965
Now that I think about it, SW admin had to do a shitload of merging to get them all to play nice so I should have seen this coming.
>>
>>160449965
Wait are you saying you used your pretender that was already from Sylvania with an id of 109? Well shit that might explain everything. So all you should have to do is use the 194 version everyone else is using right?

>>

Take growth 3 over both order and temp. I also prefer order over temp both because temp has mitigated values by season and because the unrest reduction from growth often actually matters.

>>160455310
H v C for Mari is odd in that your mages prefer H whenever it's not raining (resistance to heat fatigue and improved lighting-people-on-fire from heatshock and elementals) but, as you say, Cold helps vs the rain. Either way, I'd go for the temp extreme.
>>
>>160452026

it so fucking depends.

Are you playing cold blooded? Heat 3
Playing on a map with a lot of rivers? Cold 3
Underwater Nation? Cold 3 or Heat 3.
Fire/Water mages in abundance? Heat/Cold 3.

Always always always take growth 3. The incredibly niche cases where you want less than growth 3 are presumably beyond your grasp to fully exploit.

Stop this meme of asking for advice and only giving a smidgen of information like anyone can actually use that. EA Agartha probably wants Heat 3. LA Agartha can do just fine with Cold 3. MA Marignon can do well in Heat 3, while MA W9 Pan can go with Cold 3.

The difference is 9% income, and 0.6% growth. That means Growth/Temp is inferior for the first eighteen turns or thereabouts. After which it is better, and continues becoming more better.

There's some variation to that, anyway. If you're at Heat 3, for example, then H3G3 has a few turns of superior-income to H0G0 in the winter of year one. Cold 3 similarly in the summers.

Basically, in the extremely early days when everyone was still a massive scrub, there was a game made using the Glory of the Gods map. Marverni started next to Helheim, and Helheim being Helheim immediately started a blessrush, completely stomping everything in their path to Marverni's capital using viking elf cavalry.

What they didn't count on is that Marverni's god had awoken, and they had spent a couple dozen gems forging some budget SC gear for him. It was a Lord of the Forest named Forester Bob, and it shrekt Helheim so hard that he went AI when he lost his sacred stacks to a single unit, completely turning what was looking to be a humiliating defeat for Marverni into an elven genocide.

It became a meme because it was the first real example of a perfect counter being performed in this community, as well as the fact that Helheim was massively butthurt about it for weeks afterwards, shitposting whenever it was bought up.

It's honestly just a pretty nice story that teaches a good lesson about not relying on a single overpowered strategy and getting complacent because of it.

Is that the one where it made astral corruption a nature spell and the guy who casted it got killed by a doom horror because he wasnt casting blood spells?
>>
I had a strange situation /domg/, i'm in the AC stage of a game and casted twice born to try and suicide some D mages into wights (already max research), and for some reason it didn't trigger horror attacks, any reason why?
>>
>>160480672
Twice Born is only 10 gems. Horror attacks aren't guaranteed at that level but it's high enough you should be wary of and expect them.

Not only that, he built his entire pretender around it and lost the pretender the turn he cast it - instantly dropping the global.

Ah well in that case you could try horrormarking them. Lightless Lanterns are just about the easiest way but probably too slow for your purposes. Boots of the Planes have a whopping 50% horrormark chance and are uncursed for convenient swapping but they do cost 40 pearls. Probably no-one's forged them yet, though.

Our LA Nationgen game is ready for testing.

I have two packs of about twenty nations each for 40-something nations in total. I want you guys to test these clusterfucks out, fall in love with a bunch, and then report back. We'll eventually take all your favorites and have ourselves a game on llama.

Now, before we go further, I want to make it clear that this will be first come and first served on Llama. You'll need to let me know what nations you guys like, but beyond making sure they're in the final compilation, you won't have any sort of binding dibs. I think this is the easiest and fastest way to pull this off.

So here you go. Enjoy!

Okay, so I checked the first nation of the first pack, and it's a mono-blood nation. They have literally no magic aside from blood outside of their cap. Pretty efficient leach casters I guess, but still. Wow. Units are all bad medium infantry/cavalry, with an overpriced sacred scorpion rider.

Picking these nations mostly on looks was probably a poor idea.
>>
>>160488963
The second one has gryphon riding necromancers which is pretty cool.
>>
>>160488963
Second nation's usable. Good magic arsenal, but on very expensive mages so research is expensive and bloodhunting will be too. Units here are HEAVY infantry and some more weird cavalry. Big berserker crazy-morale sacreds, but one attack. Worth noting that this nation has shock/poison/fire res on everything, which would be nice if they had the paths to take advantage of that. Also has assassins.

Third nation has 40g S1 mages, so that's gonna be a thing, and their cap mage is basically what a magister arcane wishes he looked like (barring the cap only part). He's got blood too, but no other blood so your hunting isn't great. When you do get slaves, though, you'll have great crosspaths to use them (storm demons, demon knights, horrors). Another size 3 sacred berserker, but at least it has 2 attacks and a magic weapon. No recruitable H3 (unlike the first two). Units are medium infantry and horse cavalry which you'll never use, because they also have flail-wielding steel crossbow dudes for the same price which are probably the only guys you'll want.

Fourth nation is amazons that are going to rely on their high precision crossbows, because high precision crossbows are cool. Heavily armored trident infantry to front line for them too. Flying gryphon cavalry that you'll never buy because lul 110 gold. Badass sacred crossbows with a werewolf wounded shape that revert after the fight. In spite of their solid troops, consider this a super low tier nation, though, because their mages are awful. The E1N1 guys can be good lab rats, but you don't have any good out of cap mages to take advantage of efficient research and even the cap mages are mediocre at best.

Fifth nation has militia-arbalests, which are cheap and massable. Clockwork heavy infantry to front line for them and most important FEAR sacred cavalry like nightmares. Also like nightmares in that they have 13 encumbrance. Banefire mages are ok, cap mages are F/D/W/N which is nice for sites + a few spells
>>
>>160488672
>going to work and can't spend the whole day testing

Show us one of your favourite nation from those
>>
>>160489861
yeah, I'm going over all of them.

Erisoita is absolute shit. It's like MA Atlantis if it were a land nation and lost its awesome big mages in exchange for some expensive, not sacred pegasus cavarly.

Hashinesippu is a t-strike nation with a LOT of summons. They can do either t-strike coms or the more standard stormpower->t-strike depending on if they want to sacrifice mages for more casts. They have a LOT of summons - Lanka's, Yomi's, and Jomon's. They don't have the paths natively to summon much of anything, but the right pretender could get them diversity from summons to make up for their razor-focused recruitable mages. They have 7g slave archers with composite bows, so that's nice too. Their infantry sucks, but they have chariots for expansion.

Sesgorice has blood, astral, and lanka's summons, but lacks the air and death to get the most out of them and pays for H2 on their mages. Their mages are still worth the cost given their paths, but this needs a pretender for Dakini. Troops are either meh or expensive.

Aunukilis has LA Atlantis, and a 40g S1 mage. So, basically awesome. Weak crosspaths, with a cap F2S3(FSDE)1. The built in mind hunting is cool, and this nation's only diversity needs is E, so with an awake expander they can make a strong early-midgame push with efficient troops and mages.

Pisaly has a similar troop lineup in terms of stuff that you actually want to use, but harder to use mages with W and N being the primary paths. A bit more diversity on this nation than others, given that they have a cap only 2D2E mage to go with their W/N/A/S paths.

Marrena is oddly enough almost identical to Pisaly, but better. Their cap mage is EB(AESB) that auto-summons a size 3 illearth, and they have a 40g lab rat that can be astral. Add a usable sacred and a blowpipe assassin and you have something interesting.
>>
>>160488963
Sesgorice looks like they might be a contender.

That fifth nation >>160489865 mentioned is called Omens and their sacred fear cavalry turn into fire elementals upon death. That's probably nothing too special in the scheme of things but I love little combos like that.
>>
>>160490746
That second group of flying monkeys look like they dont fuck around.
>>
Murghonon is rough because they're paying 16 gold for caelians. Bit tankier, though, and one of their troops is a dual wielder. Mages are not great - D2X1 is your core battlemage, but it costs 225g since you're paying for a sacred demon thing. At least they're sturdy. You can maybe thug them too since they have built in fear and 16 hp. Their cap mages can do so better, given guaranteed E magic and he ability to self bless. Expensive troops + expensive mages means you'll need to take advantage of mobility to do well with them. Overall still usable just because it's a flying nation.

Now Sarhaneni I like. Cheap flying crossbows, E2X1 and E2A1X1 mages, and some very heavily armored flyers. Prod 3 is a must, but these guys are almost like a flying Ulm. REALLY solid nation. They've got sacred archers too, and since your battlemages are sacred you might take an A minor bless or something. The A on your pretender is also nice because with an air booster you can make staffs of elemental mastery from your a-random cap mages. Probably the best nation so far.

Satraalpakgan is Caelians with hoburg slaves. They've got kinda wonky mages with some RoS access. They have Caelum's good-guy summons with no native astral, so like Caelum they'll have issues getting them. I'd rate this nation as significantly weaker than vanilla overall. They've got mechanized hoburgs, but they're expensive and not impressively strong.

Jabad is the first flying monkey nation and their so-called winged chariots don't fly. I don't like this nation just because I don't like their mages. Expensive S2N2 or cheap N1 are their out of cap options, and their cap mage is just S2N3X1.

Tirbal is also flying monkeys, and they have BL's summons (so good and ebil summons). They have cheap S1W1, less cheap S2W1, and some diverse mages to serve as com masters - FAWS and AWSD. Both are available out of cap too. This nation will be tricky to get the most out of your mages and really wants a blood god.

>Winged chariots don't fly
I almost want to toss wings on their pig and make the unit flying.

Good luck with the Foulspawn nations!
>>
Ondta is a foulspawn nation, which means I'll need to actually go in game to figure out what their units are. Can't comment on their overall strength as a result since I can't tell what their sacred cavalry even are from the inspector, but they're a blood nation with 175g B2 mages, so they can hunt well. They also have an unusually cheap commander with a patrol bonus that automatically reduces unrest. They're basically MADE to be a blood nation, and their national paths let them cast crossbreeding, so they're actually a foulspawn nation that can summon foulspawn, which i neat. Sadly I doubt that's actually remotely good compared to going full-demon with recruitable foulspawn instead.

Gakand is another foulspawn nation, so I similarly can't judge troop values by looking at them. They also have minotaurs, but minos suck so you'll be using foulspawn. Their mages are VERY different, though. These lads are a full on t-strike nation, with cheap A2s and up to A4 in cap. Good RoS access too. Limited blood, given that their cheaper blood mage is 290 gold, but it's there. Their A2 mages are berserkers, so even though they can survive RoS what with their 30 hp, being hit by it will turn off their magic.

Lomix is the third foulspawn nation with both cav and archer sacreds. They have a cheap lab rat that can random B1 or S1. You can probably even thug these guys given their 27 hp pool. Very awesome. They've got some good S2/S3 mages too, and the ones that random blood can be boosted or empowered into horror artillery. These guys are my favorite foulspawn nation because of that and the lab rats, but all three foulspawn so far look good. I hope that you're going to let more than one player use each 'race,' since all of the foul spawn nations so far are very diverse
>>
Caevie has no sacreds, which sucks, but they have actual ranged units. From what I've seen with another nation, this means they can random longbows, crossbows, arbalests, short bows, and composite bows. They require a bit of sorting to use right as a result, but are quite good. Mage-wise, the foul spawn continue to have usable and different magic. These guys are very heavily death focused, with B1D2/X1 and S1D2/X1 out of cap. Their battlefield clear spell will be Winds of Death. They've got reliable D4 in cap too, but a harder time getting the right crosspaths for it. D4S2 Elders can cast soul drain with the right boosters and PotS, which is pretty good too. This nation will scale well as a result of their solid lategame magic options and easy path into vampires, but has expensive mages so they'll need to be either fairly sizable or have good scales to get there.
>>
Notes so far - no crazy sacreds or Chimori-tier superefficient unit+mage nations. So far I like Hashinesippu, Sarhaneni, Gakand, and Lomix the best, with Sarhaneni being my favorite. Checking out part 2 now.

That's way too restrictive. The pool's open and you guys can horse around with anyone you want. If that means we're getting tons of Foulspawns then I'll make sure that every one of their million units works.

>>160492234
>>160492020
For anyone interested, you can take a look at all of a Foulspawn nation's units by un-restricting the search a little.
>>
Per-en are thematically EXACTLY what you expect from a nation of evil hoburg industrialists. Hoburg crossbows are their core regular unit (the city's regulars) and both sacred and non-sacred power armor. Reliably big blood, earth, and fire with a smidgen of death. Extremely flavorful nation, and decently strong with their flaming hoburg crossbows and big E magic. A+ for both flavor and gameplay.

Gawald is odd, but still good. A2E2 no-random mage is basically cloud-trapeze RoS: The Unit but it can also do the E utility and thunderstrike stuff. No crossbows and their power armor isn't as cool. They do have cheap lab rats and up to A4 on their cap mages, though, so they're also a definitely playable race.

Livria is blood-magic hoburgs. Their basic bloodhunter is EXTREMELY cheap and has False Army: 20 which is absolutely hilarious. These guys are the nation that I didn't know I wanted to see. They also have LOTS of S/B mages. They can summon Fallen Angels and easily have the paths to do so (they don't even need a booster). Their troops kinda suck, especially against evo, so they need to make the switch to full demon armies ASAP. Once they do, though, they're pretty good just on account of efficient blood access and so many horror casters. SO MANY.

Maelum is a nation of ichtyids and hoburgs with cheap s1w1 mages (which seems to be a thing for some reason), but they have inept researchers and garbage crosspaths. The worst hoburg nation and the worst water-astral nation. Pick one of the others if you want either of these themes.

>>160492654
Thanks, I'll check that out then. If anything jumps out at me, I'll make another pass of the foulspawn, but I imagine that their units will be similar to the foulspawn units from past natgen games - some flyers, a variety of different attacks and damage types, and hard hitting heavy infantry.
>>
>>160492931
>>160492234
Just so you know Caevie does have a sacred, it's an extremely light muuch infantry with 100% darkvision and dark power 4.
>>
I tried the foulspawn search thing and am quite confident that it doesn't cover all of it (eg - searching 'Lom' turned up no archer units, but they have a sacred archer recruit).

>>160493258
Huh. That didn't show up in the mod inspector.
>>
All right, I need to go so I'm not going to finish going over all the nations, but one weird thing I saw was that Aoisapoka has trample + swallow on a lot of their units, but they're size 2. This means that they will eat bugs and hoburgs that aren't in power armor, which is pretty funny.
>>
>>160493465

To expand a bit on 'why more details are needed', >>160455494 fucking nailed it but some nations want early gold - some want more gold over time, some want gold to try to secure mercs cause their expansion is high-res but they had no choice but to take a rainbow, some nations don't really care about gold as much as mag-3, or prod-3. Some nations will need more gold early if they take prod-3, or growth if they got prod-0. Sometimes you don't want Order quite as much for a specific nation because you've decided to go Luck for RP/fun reasons.

Not to mention, most of the time these questions get asked? The rest of the build is a godawful mess made of potatoes and a single reply in the thread could save a person an entire game of getting their ass handed to them.

It works because people who dogpile to 'help someone else out' are often weaker players who don't realize the strategic weakness of that tactic. So you can choke them, outmaneuver them, defensive trap them. I've done it and i've seen it done, so it's certainly not impossible.

You can also do the ghetto version - hold them off just long enough to choke the last of the life from the diplomonster, so you both die together.

A poll's coming out the same time as the patch/expansion. You'll have something like three votes, and any nation without votes gets dropped from the final version. I'll then host this on llama and you guys will send pretenders in on a first served basis.

Furthermore I only fed him information about the outside world in the form of black and white media, and taught him everything we know about the physical characteristics of light and colour, would the captive learn something new upon release, as he sees purple for the first time?

t. Machaka
>>
>>160526576
>what are the implications of me saying that
Depends on the framing and context of the question, really.

The original (non-butchered) version of that question is a ontological argument of sorts.
Basically, it's an argument against the belief that the world is purely physical.
Proponents go as far as suggest that even if you gave the captive all possible physical information (including what's currently unknown to science), we would not be able to give him the information of what experiencing any physical thing is like, meaning that there's a type of knowledge or information that's not physical. And if there's things that aren't physical, then the world can't be purely physical.

That particular way to view it is obviously controversial, but you could use it as a linguistic argument.

Let's say that we give the captive all information that's possible to express through the language of physics. If we again assume that he'd learn something new upon release, we now merely mean that there's something we can learn that's cannot be expressed by the natural sciences.
Some use that as an argument that the "language of science" cannot (at least not in it's current form) express all forms of information about the world.

But it's actually kind of a wide subject, which many applications of the same general topic, having to do with ontology, epistemology, and the philosophy of mind.

Well no shit. Description of a qualia is not the same thing as a qualia.

Nevermind "language of science", that's a property of language in general. That's not a comment on the physicality of knowledge, it's a restriction in communication.

It's reasonable to expect that, on a purely physical level, if you took the state vector of Person A and gave it to Person B, that Person B would have the experiences of Person A. That would be murder though, and you'd end up with two Person As.

>Description of a qualia is not the same thing as a qualia
Obviously not, but the argument that the epiphenomenal nature of qualia can be used as an argument against physicalism is still intriguing, if misguided.

Interpretations of Jackson's argument as relating to language or epistemology are perhaps worthwhile, but more secondary to his original ontological point.

>That's not a comment on the physicality of knowledge, it's a restriction in communication.
Only true for the linguistic interpretation, as the ontological version of the argument arguably requires knowledge to have some sort of "entity-like" existence distinct from sentences. The base problem here is the supposed conflict between physicalism and the existence of non-physical properties. The formulation of this as being about that's communicable is generally more of a retooling of a controversial argument to a much more agreeable one.

>It's reasonable to expect that, on a purely physical level, if you took the state vector of Person A and gave it to Person B, that Person B would have the experiences of Person A.
I agree, but then again I am a physicalist. Qualia are, despite what proponents of the anti-physicalist interpreters of the knowledge argument will say, physical properties.

It looks like Communion + Horde of Skeletons did most of the work, with my initial forces plus several Bottles of Living Water holding them off long enough for the skeletons to pile up at the gate. I had some Magic Duel and Stellar Cascades in there, but those didn't seem to do much.

I admit I don't have a lot of experience with Communions or Astral in general, so I wasn't sure how to make use of them.
>>
Reminder to join CastInTheNameOfBob
>>
>>160543771

Maenads are basically a naked claw attack on legs (surprisingly effective against water elementals) so anything that holds them up or mauls them enough sees them off.

As you've probably figured out, communions are just a way to get more spell power on the field, sometimes at the cost of your slaves. Also a good way to cast spells you otherwise can't, although sometimes turn 2 rather than the turn 1 you always want.

A good trick with them is make the communion masters' fifth order 'communion slave' - that 'shuts down' the communion and means one limping fleeing enemy won't cause your masters to kill your slaves with fatigue casting buffs on themselves for 20 rounds. It's also generally a good idea to use pathboosting spells on your masters, as it propagates to the slaves - as long as the slaves have more paths than the masters (before the communion boost), they only take 1/2 the fatigue the masters do. If the masters have more paths, or the slaves don't have the paths of the spells being used, they take much more fatigue (up to 4x). Against maenads it's pointless to use SC (too many to fatigue, too weak to make fatiguing them worthwhile) and magic duel only affects enemy astral mages.

The generator won't create anything too wonky like a bear nation with guns because there's no guns and no bears for it to work with. It does have clockwork units that pop up when you get Hoburgs though. There's also giant fossil mounts, metal man dying shapes, and lots more, but they're rare unless I manipulate the data.

I'm going to create some new racial templates after this project is all done. If I can get them to work right, I might try launching something like a gunpowder nation game or whatever else the general has interest in. It's a long ways off though.

I can see two different plans for Murmar: Awake erfsnake with drain or N9 Irminsul with magic. You can expand well enough with the non-sacred ogres (though I'm not anything close to >>160560135 obviously and still figuring things out) but the N9 Black Wolfkin are kind of beasts. Pretty easy to send out lossless parties very often. But I'm more interested in the N9 bless for thugging Arch Adepts. W1E2D2(N/B)1 with 35 HP (after bless) is a pretty sick recruit-anywhere chassis, right?

It's kind of an interesting conflict that their mages ignore drain but their sacreds have magic power. It's also very painful how very expensive their mages are. Really hope to run into some decent indies early on.

Patala needs shit-tons of money to get off the ground, but it also needs blood to get dakini so your magic isn't a pile of ass. It doesn't need a bless because dual blessed naga warriors get killed by regular infantry and no I don't know why they just are a pile of dicks in practice. The nation also wants an expander because elephant expansion is painful, slow, and sometimes hilariously fails and costs you a fortsworth of gold for no reason.

You can try to put blood on something that can expand, or just go for either blood or expander. Your shit is insanely vulnerable to RoS because unarmoured monkey mages without a first turn fog warriors but you can get it from a kinnara with a matrix, dakini is just a lot easier, better, cheaper, more spammable, etc.

Monkey swordsmen aren't awful as units go but they have bucklers so shortbows kill them much less crossbows overall any strategy relying on your national troops to do damage or survive attacks is one that will fuck you. Their MR is icing on the cake.

I did the following - blood for dakini, elephant expansion (originally trying for expander + blood god, but it fucking died), built forts on crossbow provinces, used human crossbowmen as both my melee and ranged infantry, lost a fuckton of monkeys to things like a single jomon samurai or 3 assartut because they are bad, used elementals from naga mages to win all early wars, dakini + naga buffs to win later wars along with xbows and some random monkeys there to scream and die, battlefield-kill (wrathful skies, quake, foul vapours) to win lategame wars along with tides of trash and a few storm demons, if I wasn't in a game with real blood nations i'd have gone for demon lords. All the monkey summons are holy-fuck levels of expensive, the summoned troops are trash, the mages are okay notably the kinnara, he's your 'job not worth using a dakini' air mage/dakini replacement with no blood.
>>

But it's also expensive. 3 points in magic/growth would be better for almost everyone. 3 points in production could arguably be better for many nations.

I wouldn't go O3L3 unless I already had basically full other scales (which means no bless, and not much magic on your pretender).

Open up mod inspector. Load the fucking mod. Type in 'juggernaught', 'flesh hound', 'herald of khorne', and 'bloodthirster'. Note how the nation gets those for free. Note how they are sacred. Note how if it gets a few, it can make more by auto-winning fights. The blood magic khorne has or free slaves or whatever is completely irrelevant. >Ulm is well ahead of me
We all saw the graphs you posted. It showed you two in a dead heat. He had better research and income, and you had presumably better bloodhunting, confirmed by several of your neighbors.
>>
>>160611752
Also should I just be bloodhunting everywhere basically or just the places with high pop?
>>
>>160613008
Blood hunts in provinces with less than 5000 people can fail, and since hunting and patrolling kills people, you shouldn't hunt provinces smaller than 6000-7000 people. Also the real high pop provinces provide a lot of gold so you might want to leave them for last.
>>
>>160613008
4-8 bloodhunters per province with pop between 5k and 8k
>>
>>160613008
>>160613252
and if you have more bloodhunters, start going higher (excluding capitals and particularly rich provinces). Similarly, if you have a province with a bunch of gold from sites, like gold mines, don't bloodhunt that since unrest will reduce that income as well.

>>
>>160611460

Depends on your mages, your paths, how easy you can spam them etc.

Storm demons are usually considered top tiers though, so if you have B+A mages, they are usually worth summoning.
>>
>>160615063
What about crossbreeding?
>>
>>160613252

I heard the ideal group was 3-4 B2 hunters, and rotate them once unrest gets too high(unless you can patrol it down equally fast)
>>
>>160615461
it's not worth it.
>>
>>160615704

I think it's only worth if you have master crossbreeding mages
>>
>>160615543
I used to think it was best to spread out, but pbie ran the numbers and he and I both tested hunting. The diminishing returns don't start being a major factor until 8+ hunters. Spreading out to more provinces reduces your income by more than hunting one province down. Yes, it does reduce your pop and you can't hunt with that many indefinitely, but it's absolutely worth doing for the gold income (or for the increased slave income if you somehow have tons of extra hunters and can spare them from research duties).
>>
>>160615810
8 hunters at what level of blood magic, though? Does that actually matter?
>>
>>160615704
>>160615785
What if you have easy access to B2 N1 mages?
>>
>>160615704
>>160615785
It's worth using Improved Crossbreeding for the chaff if you need to siege down castles and so on. It gets you more siegepower for your buck than just about anything else.

I'm also using foulspawn hordes with army of gold + rush of strength to clean up a player that went AI with a crapload of troops, and that's working quite well too. Being able to break forts within a turn or two is awesome.

>>160615905
As long as it's 2+, it doesn't matter much. 3+ is 100% chance of success, but 2 is already 80%. Anything past that is just extra slaves, which is nice but usually it's better to use more cheaper hunters.

>>160615947
It's like Pack of Wolves. Good for siege chaff, bad for killing.
>>
Arcoscephale and Caelum ruled the world just a short while ago. Now they're both AI's.
>>
>>160615905

Chance of success is 10% + (40% per blood level)

So B2 guys with dowsing rods are always going to find slaves. (Barring the chance not to from Unrest or low Pop)

Worth noting, it is ALWAYS worth making dowsing rods. The actual number of slaves is 1d6 + blood level, so the rod pays for itself in three turns. Or five if you don't have a hammer.
>>
>>160616425
>>160616028
Right yes I get that. I was just wondering if 8 B4s was more disruptive than 8 B1s or what have you.
>>
>>160616416
No fucking clue about Arco. As for Caelum, didn't they send a message about not being able to continue and then turning themselves AI (seeing as that badmin did nothing about Arco, a sub probably wouldn't have been an option so that makes sense)?
>>
>>160616565
Yes, because unrest scales with how many slaves are found. They are less disruptive / slave found, though, because all bloodhunting attempts increase unrest and a significant amount of the unrest generated is from this baseline.
>>
I really, really don't want to have to set Fomoria AI. PLZ SUB
>>
>>160604245
it was to fuck over caelum when he had the clear lead
>>
What about a mod that increased the cost of blood spells x3 across the board? If you consider that a slaves is about 1/3 a gem, it doesn't make sense to spend less than 2 air gems on a storm demon, but spending 7 air gems per storm demon sounds about right.
>>
>>160617136
There's a mod that makes blood magic balanced by removing it from the game. I highly recommend it.

I honestly just wouldn't play a blood nation with that mod. Even if the costs end up being 'about right,' needing to go through the trouble of setting up a blood economy to be on-par with nations that don't is eh. This is especially true since if I want to play a blood nation, I'd play it in a different game without that mod.

But you have to find air gems, and you can't increase your air income without taking new provinces, whereas blood income is basically just a multiple of your number of hunters and will increase steadily through the game even if you're deadlocked or losing ground. >>
>>160633307

You'll want a vine shield instead of that second brand. Also probably wanna cut down the amount of chaff, since 75% autorout's a thing.

Scripting wise, generally you'll want Bless first. You could probably live without the air shield as well. I dunno what your bless is, but an N9Ex would go well with a thug like that.
>>
>>160633941
I have a rainbow pretender, my bless is 4A 4E 5S 4D >>160630878
is it alright?
>>
>>160633307
Fatigue is the bane of thugs. Always have reinvigoration sufficient to counter their encumbrance, more in case they buff themselves. Quicken self is especially notable, because it means you act twice per turn and take twice the fatigue, but only get reinvigorated once. Also 15 hp is a bit on the fragile side.
>>
>>160634195
I deduce from your message that I shouldn't cast quicken self, but not much more, what should I do to give them more reinvigoration and HP, besides giving them a vine shield?
>>
>>160633941

Oh, also, Liquid Body for them as can cast it, rather than Quicken. Thugs are more about the ability to sustain being attacked for a while, rather than killing more faster. The Quickness is likely to lead to them fatiguing out and dying.
>>
>>160634285
There are reinvig items. Also if you replaced the body slot's Enc 3 with a cheap Enc 0 armor you'd cut down on fatigue per turn
>>
>>160634123

That's not really doing you any favours.

I'll admit, I have not seen enough of Theodoros to comment with confidence, but if you're looking to throw around a lot of thugs, you'll want N9 at a minimum for the regen bless.
>>
>>160634381
I see, that's interesting

>>160634306
is it useful to cast both liquid body and moss body, or barkskin, stoneskin and ironskin? Do these spells stack? Should I cast them all if I can, or are there better options? (Melias can be either NA, NW or NE)
>>
>>160633307
One thing to remember is that you don't have to thug. Thugs are cool, so they're very attractive to newbies. Now don't get me wrong, thugs can be very useful, but like everything else, IT DEPENDS.
>>
>>160634525
My plan was to use the pretender to explore a lot of provinces in order to get a lot of gems (that's what the steam guide advices, the goal being to summon a lot of spectral philosophers (a national death gem summon for research) so I can cast more powerful summons in late game; it may sound like I know what I'm talking about, but not at all...)

>>160634612
Actually, thugs are mainly a headache to me... I just read in the guide that I need them as Therodos
>>
>>160634548

Barkskin, Stoneskin and Ironskin all buff base prot, and override each other. Use the best you have access to once only.

Liquid Body provides Slashing/Piercing/Bludgeon resist, which halves any damage taken after Prot. Very nice with regen. It also greatly reduces affliction chance, which is super important even with recuperation.

Mossbody is a singleshot buff that boosts protection until something gets through it, at which point it explodes into poison clouds. Generally not worthwhile.

Honestly cannot recommend sitesearching with your pretender. Having something to cast your national spells is important though. I'd probably go with something like this, personally.

Gets you your national summons, a decent thug bless, deep Astral, and can also teleport around and drop Rain of Stones and later Soul Drain on things.
>>
>>160635891
Jesus FUCKING christ

Vanilla thed requires its pretender to expand. A ghost kind can kinda sorta expand with a turn wasted forging armor or by cherry picking some easy provinces.

>>
>>160636063

Did they nerf the starting army or something? Theo used to be able to roll even underwater shit pretty effortlessly, expanding.
>>
>>160636573
You still can with your starting army, and then 4 turns later you can get a second expansion party.
>>
>>160636662

Why the fuck would you need an awake expander then?
>>
>>160636573
Pretty sure they still can. I'm an idiot newbie and I tried out Therodos with an imprisoned, useless god, and the spectral freespawn dudes swat your average mermen aside without casualties.
>>
>>160636714
because waiting 4 turns for a second expansion party is cripplingly slow and will leave you too small to have a chance at winning.
>>
>>160636573
No they nerfed kouretes
>>
>>160636063
Yea, I was going to answer that.

>>160636573
What I understood is that basic Therodos armies are very good for expanding underwanter thanks to archers being able to shoot underwater, but Therodos also needs to expand very quickly in order to have coastal forts within the first yuear (they are vital)

>>160636178
I'm trying that right now, I'll post a screen so you can tell me if it's okay or not.
Also, what about the huge jellyfish?

>>160636714
Big problem is that Therodos cannot build army without Ephors, which are a death gem national summon, while the only recruitable mage in this nation with D only has 10% chance to get it, takes 2 turns to recruit, and is very expansive. Also, even if you get it right away and already have the gems (which is impossible at this moment in the game), Ephors only give 1 unit per turn. Of course, you start with 1 Ephor at the begining, you can make him a prophet, and you also get some freespawns within your forts; but that's not a lot of them at the begining
>>
>>160636787

That's three expansion parties in year one. You should be able to hit 15+ provinces with that easy.
>>
>>160636972
You're ignoring attrition and also are either retarded or intentionally lying.

>>160637568

>>
>>160637602
I guess they wanted player to stay on the ghost theme more heavily... but then they should have counterbalanced the nerf with some buff
>>
>>160637602

I'd need to do some testing, but my gut feeling is you could probably get by with a more bless focused imprisoned.

Better kouretes buff means you don't need as many, and they take less attrition. Would definitely need to do some testing on that though.
>>
>>160637407
What do you think about these pretenders?
>>
>>160638104
Imprisoned pretender = you have no death caster until year 3 unless you get extremely lucky = you can't summon Ephors or Spectral philosophers = you can't get troups and you can't get tech
Even without the expand problems, Therodos would absolutely need an awake or at least dormant pretender

Doesn't Therodos need real high Dominion?
Therodos' Dominion kills pop, which is good if it affects enemy territories, and also provides an incentive not to attack me
Add to that all the negative scales
And finally, add the fact that the strength of my Dominion produces more freespawns in forts
Isn't 9 a minimum?

>>160638761
So what should I drop to get a high S level? I have to keep D, Dormant, at least 3 luck (only source of gold, since I have 0 population), at least 2 magic (for research with spectral philosophers, +it gives lots of gems with luck, and Therodos needs them), probably a strong Dominion as well (see above), and finally N and E were the original reasons why we decided to abandon the ghost king (in order to have big blesses for Kouretes); what's left?
