if they just adjusted the damage value of shells just a tad and made them based on Motion Value calculated with a sharpness modifier, that'd would solve literally every problem the GL has with shelling damage.

They went through the trouble of trying to make each weapon skin tree have decent end-game use across all the weapons (though not really well enough desu), but it's they left the inherently-locked things like phials/shell type/shell level/ammo/coating/notes in there which really just prevents those weapons from actually seeing the benefit of the new upgrade system. You'll always want the max level shells, you'll always want great songs, you'll always want power phials, you'll always want a certain ammo/coating, and because you don't really get a choice in those things you just end up using whichever few have the best - which is a very small handful selection of "end-game" weapons as much as it'd ever been before 4U.

well don't forget that is true damage and not compounded by weakness zones. 300 raw weapon with normal type at 10MV and dragons breath active would be doing 40 per shell, with load up thats 264 true damage per fullburst. And of course long and wide would have their own values. A 300 raw GS with crit draw crit boost on a level 3 charge would be looking at 168 damage even on a generous 40 hitzone, if they managed to land it. 10MV might be too much for Normal if Dragon's breath remains +10raw. We didn't even factor in Artillery or Bombardier yet.

But really there needs to be a sharpness modifier applied to the raw value of the shell too, else junk garbage like Akantor with it's high raw bad sharpness would be doing far and above a gigantic amount of shelling damage.

after thinking about it more, having shells scale off of MV sounds good, but theres still the wierd area where shells are too strong but are still generally too unsafe to use, in 4u with tamarod sedition you almost never want to shell unless you are hitting a zone thats 30 or less. but even in that example a poke will only do 6 less damage and is much safer than shelling was. really the best way to promote shelling is to not make them such a burden on general play, just give them the recovery that charged shells have and it would be fine.

also keep in mind also that doing a slam->full burst takes much longer to recover and do than a lvl3 GS charge.

If Yellow sharpness modifier was actually just 1.0 at all times instead of 0.4 or 0.6 dependent on early or late hit in the animation, then that extra attack power could go a long way. Bouncing is a very real issue for the first two pounds before the golfswing. You can set up the combo so the golfswing would have landed perfectly (which almost never bounces), but if something with a low hitzone gets dangled through your workstation while you're setting up, it's all over. Lots of monsters have bouncy heads until a break, so it's the same deal where you've gotta miss twice and hit once.

It's literally turtling and waiting to be attacked to go for a counter. You lose a tremendous amount of attack opportunity which you could easily get more than 40MV from the counter slash. You're better off getting Evasion+1 and winging it with dodges on Guild.

Can't combo into guarding so you can't get caught attacking, so you just don't attack often at all. It's a totally retarded playstyle for any weapon much less the only one with a cannon on a blade.
