Firstly I want to make clear that I am agreeing that intelligent mounted archer AI should have never been removed. At best it should have just been disabled by default much like how 1/4 damage is on by default (IIRC...)

From a tactical perspective I have not found them particularly threatening as you can make their harassment largely irrelevant by smashing their main army immediately. This type of harassment is only a real concern if you allow it to by being defensive.

I think that may be it. I have noted that mounted archer factions tend to be more vulnerable to immediate frontal assaults and it is likely due to lacking output while their main army is getting ravaged.

A part of it may be army composition as well though. In 1257AD the mounted archers are a minority and supposed to work in support of the pretty stock army. I haven't played a mod with this AI where the majority or the entire army was mounted as it would be for the Kherjits or Jatu.

I do think that; even with superior AI, that the general clumsiness of mounted clusters would be a detriment though. Even in 1257AD I notice many mounted archers randomly getting killed by my troops. Its typically not until there are ~10 that it gets REALLY annoying and I have to basically kill them myself or wait them out.

If PoP implements this mounted archer AI the Jatu would be pretty interesting to fight once again. The Noldor should maintain Native's retarded AI. Sub-human scum don't deserve it.

That would surprise me as I used to be a mounted archer fiend and never noticed this characteristic. Especially in mods like PoP which both have powerful bows and universally nerfed bow accuracy.

Wouldn't be surprised if my intuition was wrong either though. The test would have to take into consideration 4 cases rather than 2. Namely to account for both bow and projectile damage.

This also has peculiar implications for 1257AD as it basically flipped Native's approach in regards how it handles bow/arrow damage.

Whats your favorite mod that no one ever talks about?

I like A New Dawn, the invading factions are pretty good if you want to roleplay as a amazon, Celt or crusader and the extended troop trees are pretty good. But my favourriute thing about it is how you can almost kill unarmored people with late game heavy horses, feels like a Rohan charge from BFME2.
What isn't good about it is the uber ridiculous armor some units have like 110 body armor and 30 armor gauntlets.

Im playing Dickplomacy, even on battles against kings I rarely get more than 30 renown.
