Summoning for bosses is more acceptable than summoning for levels. And when you're at meta levels or NG+ summoning is pretty much fine because at that point people are just farming souls and fucking around anyway.

Needing to summon to get past levels and bosses on a regular NG cycle or your first playthrough of the game is cancerous.

Well, I typically rollback my saves whenever I finish fc'ing/hosting and I don't really see that many people use ammunition. I guess if you're a heavy crossbow/knives person I can see why that might be a hassle. Fighting in the arena is way faster than dealing with trying to get summoned in a fc and then having to to the fc area, and then possibly having to wait on people to finish their fights.

In ds2, I'm a blood brother, but I always try to not be a total dick when i invade people. I let them clear out an area of npc enemies first, and heal up after that. I try to always bow before and after the fight. But on my first play through, as I was going through the undead crypt (and suffering) I got repeatedly invaded by a blue arbiter spirit who would ring every single bell as much as he could, try to bait me into the area with the tombstones and hollows, and give me no time whatsoever to get ready once he found me. In DS2, the whole reason you do all that shit in the first chunk of the game is to get the four special souls to open the gate to proceed to Drangleic Castle, right?

Well the only reason you need to open that door is because a tiny bit of rubble blocks the main road. You could just climb over this shit unless you're in a wheelchair. Why the fuck did FROM even put this gateway in? It just makes it all seem ridiculous - they could've just had a cliff here and got away with it. Granted, with this one you'd still need the thing from the dragon, but you should also be able to get to this place right at the start of the game. There's some bizarre stuff in DS2. FROM could've had this area right up on a high cliff or in a totally walled-off area, but they actually chose to make it laughable that there's a special door "blocking" this area off.

That's just an example of shit map design. Like trying to justify Iron Keep elevator and progressing through each area being molded as levels instead of natural and logical progression. Actually I wasn't, but it still was the cause of the discrepancy. Get this: I had the Drang Hammers equipped when looking at the stats and because 2H doesn't give any bonus to that weapon, the added damage was the same. However, even though I did not have the longsword equipped, nor received any STR bonus from two-handing my current weapon, in my inventory it still showed the scaling on the longsword as if I would be 2-handing it.

It's not so much the bad level design as it is that they actually engineered some nonsense on top of the actual level design. For example, in DS1 there's a few times where you're just teleported. That's "lazy design" if you want to look at it that way, you just get teleported in a cutscene to Anor Londo, and to Firelink in the first place.

On those standards, From could've teleported you from poison windmill land to Iron Keep and no one could criticise it becauase DS1 did it. It's equally lazy, equally bad, just giving up on connecting areas and zipping you from A to B with nothing in between. Yet they didn't, they actually went out of their way to make it silly with an elevator that makes no sense.

This stuff in DS2 like the little wall of rubble blocking you from bypassing the SoW - that's all by choice. They went out of their way to put in a shitty pile of rubble when they could've just had a wall there and it would be acceptable. It's not so much level design as it is almost a kind of masochistic self-sabotage.

You need to go there to complete the game. It's funny from both an in-universe and real-world perspective that that area is blocked by this magical, special gate that needs a unique magical item to open it - an item you go through so much shit to get - yet you could just do some light climbing in the first area in the game to get there anyway.

Of course, you still need the item from the Ancient Dragon in order to enter the memory anyway, but it just makes the King's Gate there totally redundant. In fact, it's redundant anyway since the memory item is enough to gate progress, you don't need the literal gate.

The fires light when you defeat certain bosses, but some bosses are related, where some others really arent... Im pretty sure the Giant Lord is a trigger for one of those fires, which is FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE. Its a map of Drangleic, so I guess the fires show where the bosses are. Still though, it serves zero purpose, Cale hollows without much impact in the story, he never even brings up any other NPCs. Dude just gets a stone map, jerks off about it, and gets amnesia.
