Siege won't always work out on all monsters, like those that can close distances well. You'll typically use siege on more manageable fights where you can confidently do it or in hame setups, MH4U after all has limiter removal for everything else but the WF shots are rubbish.

In MHGen Adept is really easy to abuse on HBG, siege or not, and also removes any real need for Evade Extend. You can interrupt the Adept reload by firing (A) or even going straight into siege; just remember to press X when you start it and not before (otherwise you do the run). The roll out of siege even counts as an Adept dodge, but getting out of it will be much more awkward compared to Guild if you don't abuse it.

So, you can use a mix of the target cam and quick aim with a premature shot for something like the Mizu HBG to swiftly fire back, or abuse siege Pierce Lv1 with the Daora HBG or Normal Lv2 with the Shaggy HBG.

aerial shouldn't have had core mechanics placed in the vault, but instead mv nerfs to the original attack (or for example no level 3 charge instead of just no ground charging) and mv buffs to the aerial attack
deviants were just a mess, while the actual fights could be good, doing them 20-30 times with varying levels of bullshit added was not fun at all

GS: draw slashes and charges during openings are your bread and butter. Downside is hammer users always ruin your game.
LS: spirit combo after filling game. Simple; effective; powerful. Downside is you teamfrag A LOT.
SnS: fast and can block. No downsides, but no real upsides. Hammer users still ruin things for you.
DS: high speed, high damage. No block but you get amazing dodges once you fill up your gauge.
Hammer: the least effort weapon. Charge and smack some bitches upside the head. Downside is that you are the cancer if you don't git gud and employ teamwork.
HH: provide support through buffs while smacking monsters with a bagpipe or guitar. No downsides other than awkward strikes. Infinitely more useful and desired over a hammer user.
LBG: rapid fire.
HBG: Siege. Slow as fuck
Bow: high mobility, infinite ammo, and decent punch makes it a good weapon for support and attack. Downside is in gunner armor you have the defense of a cake and coatings are very important.
SA: ultimate tail cutter and hard hitter to boot.

Any tips for oil use with SnS? I tend to start with the exhaust oil and switch to affinity oil after that but I'm not sure it's a good way to go about things. Still only in low-rank, by the way, I just don't want to develop bad habits.

Exhaust oil is very funny, basically turns SnS into a multitool, so make sure to use it effectively. Usually, I use exhaust until my first KO, then switch to affinity. Against Metal Raths, or when you still have bad sharpness, you might need Mind's Eye Oil.

Bombs are very useful for specific styles of SnS use. Unless you are solo bombing with evasion skills/ adept style, they probably won't decrease your overall hunt time. Be very careful with them in multiplayer.

I know CB users are sometimes bad, but I've never once played with a good HH player

I remember doing Snowbaron V or VI with two of them, I used DBs. Every fucking time they would keep tripping me, not do anything but spammed songs that took up my screen, kept sending me into the air after I mounted it instead of going after the head, never used a single hunting art or anything, stopped using hot drinks after a while, and finally one guy carted once (he was the one across the fucking area spamming songs and always drawing snowbaron's aggro away) and the other three times (I ate for insurance cus I thought it might go bad).One of the worst hunting experiences I've ever had.

As a sometimes HH player I can understand the not using a single hunting art, the only damaging ne does minimal damage and the final attack send people flying, all songs one is usually useless since you only have about 1 or 2 useful songs per HH you need for yourself to be active and constant double notes are pretty much a waste of space, and I have not experimented with the other ones since I prefer to just hammer at the head instead.

The thing is, one played Striker (the triple carter) and loaded it up with all the HH arts, the other played Adept (to his credit I did see him insta evade some times) and had Absolute Readiness, but never used it. Both were HR67 and HR63 respectively.

I just don't see how anyone can 'main' HH, it just seems like such a painful, slow weapon to use and you lose out on so much DPS with the songs

Prowlers don't need tools to mine/catch bugs, and they can't use items, so you can fill your entire inventory with gathered items as long as you leave everything in your box.

Only downside is that their egg carry speed is relatively low. I just use a gathering set hunter for that.
