m8s I've been out of the loop since about when the Caestus was nerfed, can anyone sum up how the game has changed since then?
Does /dsg/ still do FCs? Is this new arena good or DS1 arena tier?
Did we ever fucking decide on a soul level meta?
What is the meta looking like buildwise? Are the DLC weapons any good?
Was sorcery ever buffed/made more forgiving to build around?

Mentioning Dark Souls 2 reminded me of something else I liked from that game. All the different animations for backstabbing and riposting. Like the spear back stab was just brutal. Planting the base into the ground and lifting your target up in the air with the spear. Or the katana backstab with the chops to the neck. And in Dark Souls 3 you have to use a god damn ring just to change the riposte animation. Dark Souls 2 had a shitload of problems but those animations were great.

Well I asked because I had a thought. Demons in the DaS 3 appear almost like ash, right? Like we the players are Ashen Ones. And in the old demon king fight, once he uses the last of his chaos flame to try and ward you off, he's left so weak he can't do anything but bat at you pathetically for survival.
Their power is tied to the Chaos flame the same way an Ashen One is tied to the embers of the first flame to be stronger.

Maybe I'm reaching but it feels like theres a little bit of a connection there.

I use the weapon on my STR build and I can consistently hit people with it most of the time, but sometimes it doesn't work and the other person can get out once or twice. You have to run against them with the last part of the charge for it to work.

A lot of people using the sythes from the final boss, and the shield and sword from the grave champion has been used a lot too. Pyromancies seem to be more popular in recent times for some reason

All I want is a sword with an extendo hilt that gains the halberd moveset two handed and the longsword moveset one handed. You can't say it wouldn't be amazing.

No, I have been hit by it as well and it staggered me for exactly one R1. That's what's supposed to happen all the time and why the weapon is so good, You probably either had insane luck when facing the weapon or you know how to fight it well, because if you space it correctly even if you get hit by the AoE of the shout at the end of the charge you can get away. They have to run against you for it to work. It's like O&U's weapon art, sometimes you will be staggered for 1 L1 or sometimes for 2, only this time it's either 1 R1 or nothing, except 1 R1 is the most likely outcome. It would be better if it were more consistent, right now the weapon is very RNG, otherwise it would be meta.

I've done that before invading as a caster. Wait til they get fighting and hit the host with a CSS when he runs. It usually kills the host and sometimes the poor red that was fighting.

How good it is depends on its AR. If it has halberd AR (BKH and Gundyr's get close to 500 at 40/40) it'll be too good as a sword (which usually get around 400 at 40/40). If it has sword AR it'll suck as a halberd. So either you get a stupidly straight sword with little reason to ever switch to halberd mode, or you get a weakass halberd so you have little reason to switch to halberd mode. Either way, that two handed halberd moveset isn't getting used by anyone with half a brain who wants to be effective.

If they give a two hand a damage multiplier people will have reason to use it, but just keep in mind using a glaive with a straight sword offhand is pretty much the same thing plus you get a straight sword weapon art. I can't belive DaS3 did a 180° from DaS in terms of invading, it's not a treat anymore it's literally the host that has all the advantages

And no one ever uses Way of the Blue so people can't grind Darkmoon Blades or Sentinels

Pretty sure that build is countered by GFS. It's not hard to dodge pyros and you have enough range to hit them while they're casting/swinging. Just don't get baited into rolling into them.

I just like playing at the 120 meta level... but yes, I don't know if the 40 int was worth it, it just matters for the magical attacks and I don't find myself using the weapon art much. I either suck at using it or it's only good against retarded people, because I always have decent opponents evading it without much issue, but the basic R1s with decent range and the added bonus of having the second swing combo into the third win me the fights. Meta isn't all that, and that wepon shines as an invader. As far as the wa goes, the ice is great area denial, the combo punishes anyonr who wants to try and parry you, and if you stagger them or they try to run the combo is a great way to finish them off. Hyper armor starts after you leap, and if you leap at them, delay the second l2 until they attempt to punish, and then spam the rest of the combo you should have a lot of success.

40 int really wasn't worth it though. I would gonestlt respec.

I actually tried that, and there isnt really anybody summoning at low SMs. ded game. The most active pve right now is the DLC bosses, so I'd have to make a new character and get it to one of the crown areas. I'd imagine Smelter Demon and maybe Lost Sinner would get summons kinda frequently. I always had good results at Smelter Demon though, since he kicks a lot of people's asses. King's Passage is also the common higher spot, since theres 2 bosses to summon for, one of which is the final gauntlet.

If you're a sorcerer then it's a good idea to keep an upgraded crystal weapon in your inventory to swap to in case somebody decides to get smart and hit you with a Duel Charm. It's also better for PvE because you won't have to keep wasting FP buffing your sword.

Am I the only one that finds Laurence to be the hardest boss in the game? Phase 2 is fucking annoying, have to stay at a distance and dodge until he pukes lava.

With Kos his jump is a free backstab, his 2 hit swing is a free backstab, his 2 hit combo into overhead is free parry. Phase 2 his 4 hit ground pound is free backstab, his lightning roar is free backstab.
Maria and Gehrman suffer the same flaw as Gwyn, Pontiff and Champ.


Phase 1 Laurence is a joke because you hug his back legs, but when phase 2 hits, its just constantly hit and running or praying for a lava vomit.

Not other boss in the series has given me so much trouble as laurence; took me 5 tries this evening.
