I like Shadowcraft and Runecraft, have some good stuff like Dshift for Runecraft, but want to try making a shadow deck. I pulled an Atomy the other day, and I hear that's good. I was thinking something revolving around having Burial Grounds and/or Ghouls Banquet to keep my field full of ghosts and other stuff and get Atomy out early. Seems like it'd make sense, but I dunno.

Removal, basically. Most take-two decks end up being sort of midrangey, especially since everyone loves Sword and Shadow so much. Rune sucks at playing midrange unless you get really good earth rite synergy; instead, Rune is really good at playing control. Because they have so much strong common/uncommon removal, including a very nice board wipe and multiple cards that deal 1 to all enemy followers, you can basically just grind the shit out of people. They also have some incredibly powerful golds, like Ancient Alchemist, Juno's, Calamitous Curse, First Curse, and Winter's Caprice that further strengthen this grindy control style of play. A lot of people think you have to draft earth rite to get results, and while nice earth rite synergy is very strong you really don't need it. You just need to know how to build a good control deck and which cards to shoot for. Also spellboost cards and earth rite cards can work together very well, so there's no reason to restrict yourself. Cards like wind blast, fate's hand, or the snowmen are always great pick-ups.
Of course there are some incredibly clunky spellboost cards like fire chain, fiery embrace, and rune blade that you should probably avoid unless you have a lot of spells to power them. Also Merlin is the worst t2 legendary unless you have a lot of good spellboost.

That's not gonna happen unless you get super lucky. You generally just want to shoot for some staple leggos and golds, even if you don't have multiples of them. Rerolling is a starting point, not a way to immediately get all the expensive cards for a netdeck.

Meanwhile for the last two games, they tried to altered fate and all rather early without rites. Another put down golden dragon's den and two PtPs without actual good card cycle

The first things you should drop are the ascetic knights and the DoDs. DoD is bad in a control deck because you don't care about the face damage; if you were going to run hard removal, you'd rather run execution since dealing with amulets is more important than dealing 2 damage to slow, grindy decks, but honestly you don't need it with the ruthless assassins and tsubakis.
Cards you want to prioritize are: another aurelia (super important), another frontguard (super important), 2 more avant bladers and 2 more maid leader (honestly more important than anything else), Otohime (somewhat important), and another alexander and olivia (somewhat important). Olivia can be subbed with Leonidas if you have him.

Dshift has disadvantage to a lot of decks in the meta and is very draw dependent. You either draw all your removal against bat aggro or you die, you either draw Kaleidoscope Glow against Storm Haven or you die, and that doesn't even include awkward moments of not drawing your win condition or draw multiple copies of Dshift or Flame Destroyers. That said it is very enjoyable to play when it goes off and I have been able to climb up to C rank easily with it. At this point though, I am seeing a lot more of the bad matchups. Gonna be shifting to Tempo Forest soon.
