In a month? Yes. He's a better physical attacker than CoD BY FAR, and he has some great utility. He's a walking ether, and he pairs especially well with Cecil due to entrust.

So this is my owned characters minus turtles and like 2 giant metal cactuars. My team is vaan, exdeath, kain, karl, and black cat lid. Im not that far in story mode either. What do i need to optomize my damage and team potential? Do events? or use the extra energy to plow through story?

CoD is a nice idea for Xande, also a 2* Diabolos for Human Killer + Reduce encounter, paired with Smoke bombs ans Kefka's Escape and you're golden

I imagine lid is without her skooky auras? She's not great without them but she can fill the role of a supporter with bar-ra materias and spamming hex strike. Without auras, she's not a focus. Get some gigituars from king mog and level that vaan and bartz and dress up your exdeath decent. If you are hurting for weapons, could maybe try for that spear in king mog. Getting the enhancer should be one of your next goals if you can do it. Spam bioblasters or hex strike, full break, and huddle up to beat the dragon. Its free to challenge it so you can try to brute force it

He's outclassed but he's still a barrage user and may get a 6 star form in the near future

Bartz is better than Karl because he can run barrage, which is better than karl's RT attack.

Karl has AoE abilities, but they're super weak. He has a way higher attack, but it doesn't make up for the damage difference.

He's mostly used for his support move, which is Cheer+Focus without the defensive boosts.

By the time you get bartz up to snuff, he'll be able to awaken to 6*, which is when the real shit begins. He's one of the best 6* units for a very long time.

E.g. WoL's Armor Eraser takes 45% armor. Upgraded Gilgamesh's AoE attack ignores 65% armor. Is this multiplicative or do those numbers add to effectively 0% armor? Or does Gilgamesh's armor ignore win and the -45% armor debuff is useless?

FFIII - need to grind for class levels and high-end weapons
FFIV - DS's version for onion equipment and adamant armors. Other versions for gold apples/silver drops, pink tails. TAY is grindy if you want all equipment.
FFV - need to grind class levels. A lot. Equipment drops too. Blue magic counts I think?
FFVI - need to grind to learn magic.
FFVII - need to grind for unique items, materia levels/copies and fucking mini games at the Golden Saucer
FFVIII - grind for cards, magic, items, abilities, weapons' mats. Literally everything.
FFIX - equipment-stats combinations to have better stat gains, cards. Kinda foggy on this one tbqh
FFX - Labirinths and puzzles lmao. Gridsphere should be renamed grindsphere.
FFXII - can't remember honestly, should replay
FFXIII - grind for components to augment weapons.

In RK you need to grind your ass off for exp/esp eggs, mats to augment weapons/armors and more importantly, orbs for abilities.

BE is mostly in line with the grind, and mobages in general are made so you eiher waste your life on them to grind, or save time and spend money instead.

I have that weird luck sometimes. Most of my Lapis is the free to get kind and I am very hesitant to spend it on anything unless the banner is good or I want the unit on the banner that is the easy to get one.

You get enough of all of that shit just from playing through the game normally, except for some early grinding in II to get you started.
If you're new, some grinding in FFV after you unlock the first classes might make you more comfortable, but it's completely unnecessary.

You're especially wrong about VIII (and X outside the post-game garbage). It really sounds like you grinded a bunch in all of those games so you're just assuming that you have to.

I've been using osmose for the first couple of turns to make any healers/mages/CoDs pretty much useless and then cleaning up around round 4 or 5 but one of my users was ko'd on the first turn

Got down to a 3 on 3 and their Elza used some AoE shadow attack 3 turns in a row and I couldn't outheal the damage fast enough to survive a second->first combo with just my Cecil

I can't remember how many were given out since I started around the time the Facebook vote banner was released. correct me if I'm wrong but I think 5 trust moogles were available since then so I grinded the 30% by having him in every occasion, unless it's a hard fight. DEF buffs are always inferior to ATK debuffs by a wide margin. ATK is exponential, DEF is linear.

Let's look at something with 400 ATK against you with 200 DEF.

Let's say they deal 800 damage.
Reducing their ATK by 30% (aura veil) reduces this damage to 392,
Increading your DEF by 40% (cheer) only reduces it to 571 damage.

And stacking both together reduces it to 280.

Not having the enemies ATK broken is a bad idea mathematically.

Check the ability shop - there is almost certainly a water card that starts with 6 water seeds, just like Shiva. Upgrade the skill seeds by fusing random water cards or green cactuars, and then try some multiplayer (you would probably be fine in 2* if you had a PuPu for resist, 2 random water cards, and some way to heal your group as the 4th card).

If I'm trying to solo story I would replace my shiva with hades for some healing but I like the extra seeds.

No it isn't. All you need to do is Osmose the Cecils so they can't heal, then chip away at them while keeping your party topped off with your healer and win by having more health by the end of turn 10 even if you can't kill any of the Cecils.
