Eggman gone fucking insane after constantly losing battle after battle after drift race after Extreme Gear after Shuffle party after battle is a pretty good natural progression really.

Other villains are either already quite mad (Cortex) or have reasonings and actual human emotion of conflict (Wily) or have other adversaries other than one guy and a few of his friends, Eggman believes he's the best, why should he lose ever? A battle or two is understandable, 20 odd years? You'd start to not care about collateral or yourself after a fashion. Colours did it a bit at the end.

Sega AM2 made a fighting game called Fighting Vipers for arcades and later Saturn. One of the characters is a teenage fashion student named Honey (Candy in the US) who enters the tournament to promote her fashion brand. For shits and giggles the AM2 devs decided to add Sonic and Tails as hidden characters just for internal amusement. This later convinced Sega that Sonic could work as a fighting game and led to AM2 making Sonic the Fighters. In Sonic the Fighters they created a cat version of Honey as a hidden character for internal amusement. Honey was then added to the game as a proper character during the XBLA port.

Some of the other Fighting Vipers characters can be seen in animal form as cameos during the Champions arc. For example, the warthog that Amy beats the shit out of in #269 is a reference to the character Jane.

They should honestly just gather all the IPs that they own and are not using and just conglomerate them together and just use them in a series of games.

-Side Scrolling Beat-'em-Up featuring Golden Axe, Comix Zone, Streets of Rage, etc.
-RPG featuring Shining, Phantasy Star, Sakura Wars, etc.
-Racer featuring Daytona USA OC cars, OutRun cars, Crazy Taxi, etc.

All the while adding in characters that aren't normally associated with that genre crossing over.

Make them cheap, short, low budget games and just keep a cycle going of releasing them regularly. Even reuse sprites if you have to. If Scott Cawthan can do it with FNAF, I can't see why SEGA can't do the same.

While Comix Zone isn't quite the same playstyle of Golden Axe or SoR I'd be so up for that. Just some recognition. You could tie them together in some sort of loosely tied plot of some ancient Sega villain trying to destroy their worlds. So you gotta play all of them to see the whole story or something.

Also, as an amusing anecdote, Crash was probably my first instance of console fanboyism. I remember being in the electronics department of a department store and watching the displays on the consoles there. I was looking at a PS1 playing a Crash Bandicoot demo and a lady walked up to me and said the Playstation is better than the Nintendo 64, to which I said 'No it's not, the Nintendo has Goldeneye' (or words to that effect, it was so long ago). Thinking back, I don't know why that lady pushed the Playstation on me, I don't recall her being a sales rep, maybe she was just trying to be helpful. In any case, I continued to assume the Nintendo was better on the grounds that it had Mario, Goldeneye and Lylat Wars until I finally played Medal of Honor, at which point it was Sony all the way. Though, I never owned a N64 or a PS1...

Yeah, but I can live with it. What gets me is this notion that characters must have relationship drama in order to have relationships. I mean what I really like is what we have with Bunnie and Antoine have. They are together and that's it. No drama, no teeth grinding when either of them so much as talks to someone of the opposite gender, and no uncertainty.
