Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Outside of stupid meme games, you'll hit a point in the game, usually around turn 60 or so, where whoever has the widest blood access is going to win. Naturally they need to be of a decent size to actually get there, but still. Blood basically adds an additional economy on top of gold and gems, and uses that economy to summon elite units and mages. If you haven't removed all blood nations by that point, you need to either be a blood nation yourself or have a sufficiently overwhelming advantage in gold/gems/thrones to close out the game.

I feel as if blood could use a bit of a nerf, or at the very least split up their paths a bit. One research tree and you can get multiple game winning spells. Once you get a blood economy flowing you can cast almost any spell you want.

This is honestly why I hate LA. The whole game boils down to whoever demons hardest. Jomon would be a really cool nation in MA, but they can't into blood so they just lose. Agartha can actually win off a hard mid-game push and Atlantis can take on just about any nation early, but both have only middling win rates because there's too much blood to remove all of it.

Better than their land. The shark infantry are very sturdy front liners that hit hard, but suffer from low attack density. They work well when mixed with humans on land or shrimp UW.

Their dragons are big mages, especially for LA, and let you drop acid storm, living water, or just big falling frosts/cleansing water. They're much easier to use than the wide-but-shallow land mages.

Agartha can win, it just needs to kill the blood powers early. Tomb Oracles come online fairly early, and they have excellent midgame magic on both their alchemists and reanimators. As long as Agartha pushes to win by turn ~60 or so, it's fine, and it has the tools to do so.

Honestly, the pretender doesn't matter hugely aside from the bless, astral booster access for golems/magic phase necromancer movement, and global access (WoM/EBDW). Anything else that's theoretically great for you late game either doesn't matter (you will never have the gems for high astral under normal settings, and having a ring or two is w/e) or won't help you (demons love utterdark, and you can't switch to a full-gem economy with just tomb oracle mages). If you play Agartha, you MUST play aggressively.

The real advantage is that the summon scales, so Aurum can get 9 for a single death gem with his D9 pretender. He can't easily get other high-death casters, however. Best he gets natively is a D1 random on his cap-only mage.

Illwinter has a really good thorough understanding of myth and history, but they spend too much time jacking over scandinavian heritage to actually do anything with it, nations like ea machaka just seem incredibly lazily done, they're also garbage at designing fun nations, and the only vanilla nations with a speck of depth to them are blood nations.
Even worse, shit like EA Xibalba exists, a couple players take the nations that illwinter accidentally made good, other players take trap nations they really like the theme of only to find out illwinter was too busy on cocaine cruises to actually think about whether or not they'd be fun to play.

With modnations everyone has the freedom to be xibalba.

The reveller nerf really did hurt that a lot, actually. They're still good, but you'll want to rely on centaur for longer, at least in MA. I'm trying out using the lance centaur too. Undisciplined makes buffing significantly less expensive with large numbers just because of the AoE issues, and being unable to have them hold/attack also makes positioning a bit annoying.

It was knights and longbows, he survived with 12 hp, but the pikemen didn't.

This is a solid strategy for MAgartha. Rhuax Pact is incredible, ferry over golem crafters to your capital and summon as many magma children as your fire income can allow. Statues are great. Shard Guards are great. Everything is great.

Just make sure you plan out your invasions well ahead of time, move your armies many turns before they need to get somewhere and position Oracles at key positions if you are afraid of getting attacked. You need Oracles in your battle, and they are slow. Your armies are slow. You will have a bad time if you get outmaneuvered.

Your greatest friend is nature indies. Find them! You need nature indies, if nothing else for boots of long stride so you can move Oracles of the Ancient around faster.

To add to this - Alt has great early battle magic and great late game buffs. It also opens up Green Lions. Between them, Olms, and Living Mercury, you can easily turn water gems into combat power.

I'm personally also a big fan of Penumbrals. You have the paths for shademail, and with that you can have stealthy raiding parties of spooks led by a mage to buff them.

N9 mono is sufficient for statues. So is no bless at all. They're one strong part of a toolkit, not the sole strength of MA Agartha. You have a variety of good summons and great mages to backline for them. I really enjoyed N9B9 statues when I used them in a blitz, but it does hurt your scales a LOT to get that bless and choosing not to use it doesn't make him fucked.

I've never been super impressed with N9E9 having gone up against it. To beat N9 statues you already want to use water elementals, hard-hitting evo, or specialized thugs to kill statues, and E9 doesn't add much more. I've seen it used to good effect as an early rush tool, but I'd probably prefer having the scales for more mages in a normal sized game.

The hardest part about fighting a 1v5 war is figuring out what to send against each enemy. With battle on every side, sending troops to strike into the heart of one enemy's territory leaves another flank exposed! So far, at least, I seem to be doing well, but I think part of it is just that only the ones that have already suffered significant losses want to field a significant portion of their mage corps against me. The rest want to research up to avoid falling behind other nations that are similarly contributing less to the war. =)

Jomon, however, after losing the last of his first army, has pulled everything he has into one super stack! Surely I will have to find a way to deal with so many human mages in one place. =)

Not really. The 75% overall is an AUTOFAIL rout check. There are checks at 25% and 50% overall as well which are rolled against morale. Similar deal on squad morale checks. They start at low damage taken, easily passed, and get progressively harder as damage accumulates. With morale 8 you'll have issues even with the easy ones though.

Ethereal is their main defence and they have reanimating-on-kill attack that can turn the tide against something like unarmored militia. They are strong against things like singular giants with only mundane attacks and companies of living trash troops. As an undead with poisonous magic attack they counter heavier giants with ethereal or soul vortex decently.

Their mundane weaknesses are ranged (particularly with fire arrows) and units with decent defence/protection as their attack hits for 12, so I think numerically superior amount of niefel javeliners will have no problems especially as they should be able to "roll the dice" with their javelins.

Okay, since Lemuria isn't posting their graphs, here's my understanding of Degenerate -

Lemuria is getting invaded 5v1 and not only not dying, but actually growing. With a strategy built on literally indies. Somehow. Because he's either the second coming of pankoman or y'all are retarded. The only people that don't border him are the spy-plagued Abysia and the cap-sieged Ulm. Atlantis owns the seas (but somehow hasn't just rolled over Lemuria on their own), Mictlan's been unobstructed in their blood buildup but decided to invade Lemuria anyways (why would you ever want to do that, and how is that going?), Jomon is probably a newer player given the mono deathball and losing their expander, and Marignon/Agartha are doing... something? Something that hasn't succeeded in killing Lemuria for whatever reason when fire elementals should be able to do that on their own.

Did I miss anything?

According to Lemuria himself I have done the most damage to him so far, and that was with roughly 50 of my guys plus a prophet and a D1 W1 H1 mage. Also I have to travel a reasonable distance to actually reach him and have spent the turns since my armies defeat moving another army into position. Plus since he is running with a lich queen rather than a dog he is probably not running full scales.

To be completely honest, I'm a relatively new player, and while I have finished a couple of games, this is my first time playing Mictlan (or any Blood-heavy nation at all). On top of that, the game started at a time when I was really busy and didn't actually have time for it, so I didn't even practice expansion in single player and didn't put much thought into my earlier turns. The game has been kind of a mess for me from the beginning.

I didn't want to be that guy that goes AI for no reason, though, so I stuck with it. Maybe I'll figure out what I'm doing one day.

The formula is

(Population / 100) * (dominion scale modifiers) * (1 +fort administration / 200)

So a palisade costs 600 gold, has an administration of 20, so its administration coefficient is 0,105.

In a dominion without any order, and lets say 10,000 population, the fort earns 10,5 gold per turn, which means it will pay itself off in 58 turns. With Order 3 + Growth 3, it'd earn 13,02 gold per turn and pay itself off in 47 turns.

I'm not sure if administration effects the income of neighboring provinces though. But the idea is that administration takes a lon while to pay off, so it's never really worth building the upgrades that give higher administration.

Morka, who are much like Gorka except with savage orks and forest goblins instead of black orks and night goblins. Savage orks have invulnerable 15 by the way.

Nuln, who are a lot like Altdorf but the get cheaper grey and gold wizards and get hobbits, war wagons and steam tanks instead of flagellants, witch hunters and arch-lectors.

Wood elves, who have expensive skilled units and tree people summons. A lot of their troops have glamour so you can elf people to your hearts content.

And Skaven. Everyone will hate you if you pick skaven but who gives a fuck because you have Grey Seers.

That's perfectly fine for the first cast, but after that you have an E3 mage to summon more troll kings. You don't need your E10 pretender to do it unless every troll king is busy.

With an E10 mage, trolls are not much worse (77 siege per 20 gems on trolls vs 109 siege per 20 gems on golem) and get you a useful combat force as well. Ogres are somewhat inbetween - weaker in combat than Trolls but nearly as good as siege golems for taking down forts.

Even if you just want pure siege power, Cave Grubs are about 4x as good as siege golems when cast with an E10 mage.

More importantly, none of this is at construction 9 so you have a good chance of actually researching it.

Living Statues and Mechanical Men are great blockers. They have very good protection, don't tire out, and are resistant to many types of damage.

Non-war-trolls are not great at fighting and get blended very fast. They also aren't mindless, lifeless, etc. Cave grubs require a cave and get removed fairly easily, which can also cause a hp rout (also a problem with the trolls). The point of Gate Breakers/Siege Golems is that they aren't a big, vulnerable stack that can get removed by a SC/wrathful skies/whatever, cause a hp rout, leave a mess, etc. Their downside is they are more expensive than wolves.

A blocker is anything that delays a chunk of enemy infantry. A single square of SC will tie up more than a single square of enemy troops, and iron dragons are that in a can. When you need time for things to work, a big line of things that get removed is less reliable than a couple of very tough things, or even a single one with the right placement and regular troops to catch the bits of enemy that walk past.

If you think non-war-trolls are great in combat, that's good, I disagree. Gargoyles are a good unit but require a crosspath, this was a question about e10, unless you are wasting 50 Air gems to empower. Living statues are a counterplay against low damage enemies, not good on their own, mechanical men are an anti-elements unit, not good on their own.

No luck. I grabbed the drive download, unpacked it, moved what was in the mod folder, moved the new files in, and then loaded it up. It appears to be exactly the same. Clearly, it's gotta be reading something wrong because the magic paths for these guys are screwed to hell.

You two downloaded that file, unpacked it, and are using it, right? If not then my next step is going to be to compare the DM files on the off chance that something else changed.

I just downloaded it from google drive, put it into an empty mods folder, extracted it and started a game an all 4 chaos guys seem to have their commanders and their commanders seem to have what paths they are meant to. I finally got it working.

Every time that I opened the client, the mod was already activated. I had been disabling and re-activating it to ensure that it loaded fully but that never fixed it. It was only when I loaded the game without anything in the mod folder, added the files, and then activated them that the commanders worked.

35hp, regen, 15 prot are amazing defenses for a unit.

Both work better only so long as you win and keep winning. They have significant disadvantages if you ever lose a fight.

Mindless is actually a big disadvantage on troops which aren't chaff. If your army routs, your siege golem/iron dragon will stay to dissolve and die.

Gate Breakers also risk your enemy taking control of them on a loss.

I'm not exaggerating when I say longdead will kill an isolated iron dragon in fairly short order, let alone decent troops.

Not for a unit of that size, armed with a club. The real use of trolls, like lamias, is soul vortex fodder. Use them if you have nothing else, sure, but they're not as good as you're implying. Three human soldiers will generally stab one to death, quite quickly if they have the flank.

Wolves, grubs, etc, don't need you to lose a fight to be utterly decimated. They can be decimated and that can cause you to lose the fight. RoS, EQ, archery, them getting into melee, flying, firestorm, wrathful skies, lots of things cause them to die and them dying can hp rout you. Siege golems/gbs on a tough chassis, require you to ACTUALLY lose the fight to be lost. Like I said, there's advantages to both. But in general, eagles or wolves are gonna be better at 'giant vulnerable chaff horde' sieging than trolls, and grubs need a cave.

Ye. With single target buffs. They worked pretty good for what I wanted, against jags in one case, and ulm troops in the other.

Well, like I said, they are a good unit. Nothing wrong with buying gargoyles if you've got the cross for them. You can fairly safely mass them, even.

For reference, Khorne doesn't actually need to build forts. Or labs, really. Or anything. They get a foreignrecruit dude that costs 55g (-15 due to chaosrec), 44/year upkeep, and generates 1 slave per turn. 4g for a bloodslave with a minor upfront cost. They can recruit these dudes anywhere, and will probably have a massive stack of like 100 of them just hanging around in their cap. Oh, and then, after a little while, they turn into beefier versions that generate 3 slaves per turn. And they keep getting bigger after that.

They transition to a blood economy almost instantly and I don't think anybody could possibly beat them at it. They're also immune to armageddon spam and popkiller spells because they probably already killed their own pop anyway.

Wood Elves has two game crashing multiheros (they're unfinished and therefore have no sprite). They get rec anywhere cheap S2N2 mages and big cap mages, have a weird summon-ally unit, and some neat national magic. They're not particularly strong, though, even compared to strong vanilla nations.

Wood elves, nuln, morka and skaven are still free. Skaven are OP as shit with summons and mages, wood elves are expensive, have good stats and a lot of them have glamour, morka is similar to the other ork faction in that it can recruit tons of cheap guys but they get forest goblins, spider riders and invulnerable savage orks instead of fanatics and black orks and Nuln is a lot like the other empire faction but they get a couple different troops like war wagons and steam tanks.
I have not looked too hard at any of the nations but my own though so I probably missed a lot.

Cool. To be honest I have always liked skaven, but I have never played warhammer fantasy. I played 40k with my tyranids and they were great and fun, so I think I will enjoy the horde feeling on the skaven.

However I wont be able to join the game until like 12 hours or so.
