Not being tied to a specific department is what makes it so great.
I feel like playing HoP is actually very similar since save for some specific game modes you will find that 90% of the time you're not needed at your desk after the start of the shift and you get a lot of free time to roam and interact with your crew. Since it's your job to make sure every department is working efficiently, your job's core function could be compared to that of an assistant, with the key difference being how it's primarily handled (subordination vs delegation, hands-on vs management). You trade more access and less discrimination for more responsibilities and a large target on your back for antags.
I feel like experienced assistants make the best HoPs.

Roguelites eh, binding of Isaac is a obvious pick, gungeon too, crypt of the necrodancer, rimworld if you want a less complex yet still interesting techy version of dwarf fortress.

I'm not abhuge arpg guy myself so I can't recommend anything, but for shooters, I can recommend killzone and Infamous 1 and 2, both great games, DOOM is a obvious mention, other than that, maybe just play some good old doom really.

Heavy assault weapons require both hands to use, got alt clicking for safeties and use a slightly better mag system than us, but shouldn't be hard, Im guessing safeties would act like the esword trigger expect upon use it'd just tell it to say its in safeties.

I'm not really asking for more powerful antag anything, just more interesting rounds that force usually isolated or overlooked roles to become important.

When it's not a cult or vamp round, the Chaplain is useless. When it is a cult or vamp round, he's everybody's best friend or worst enemy.

Maybe do the same to virology. Maybe virology can do ling test kits, which have been discussed before. I've suggested that such testing kits might generate false positives, so they aren't a 100% foolproof solution, and others have suggested they be limited in some way like the items needed to make them.

The reverse could happen with a viral ling archeologist or miner. Maybe there is something in the asteroid the ling could find that serves as a power boost, like maybe goliath dna or some fossilized alien dna or whatever.

I'd rather see an antag concept done in an interesting way than "You are like a lone survivor, but... you are a doppleganger that husks people and thus annoys genetics, but genetics can't do anything about it and neither can anyone else."

Ling is boring and sociopathic. It is not fun to watch one ling succ another.

There should be stages of Chapel affecting vampires, and yeah there sort of already is. At first, chapel does need to be a no-go zone, but maybe after a vamp's second feeding they can enter the chapel for longer periods without catching fire.

There is still the end game of Vamp where nothing holy can harm it.
