Most of this games highest game mechanics follow under two things.
Atmosphere and falling down.

Weapons can make you fall down.
Zas makes you fall down.
Disarms makes you fall down.
Enough damage makes you fall down.
Even weird shit of the floor makes you fall down occasionally.

Of course it would be kind of overpowered to have an item that makes you not fall down effectively shitting on almost every trait game mechanic used in standard or combat use.

Aside from the consequence which seems quite minimal in comparison to other punishments in this game creatine doesn't go far enough in terms of "WELCOME TO DIE".

However, there is other information, such as the fact that drawing cult runes inflicts exactly five brute damage, that players are not allowed to know IC. This means that EVEN if it is confirmed that there is a cult on-board, you can't have a guy in Medbay constantly watching the CMC and outing every crew member who takes exactly five brute damage and no more as a cultist drawing runes. Doing so would be metagaming, not just powergaming.
