1. They weren't paying the server bill, cancelled donation links, then demanded people paid the server bill (via donations) directly to the server provided; who in turn did not accept $1 or $5 or $10 but wanted $100's+ per donation minimum, as such, nobody paid. People went "oh just have one person set up an account and we donate to them, then they pay the bill in one go" and that didn't happen because "they'll just scam us".

OR

2. The apparent C&D letter, which there is 0 (ZERO) proof of existing (there is nothing against the law just photographing it and uploading it) was sent by a rival private server who wanted the players from Nost themselves.

1. Nostralius can no longer pay for their servers using donations, since the server host does not accept individual donations and if the Nost guys take it thats as if they're making profit from it
2. The only solution they thought up was for some magical Übermensch to pay the full price of the server hosting month per month, due on the 10th of every month. They announced this in the forums and had an open invitation for people to do it.
3. Nobody did it
4. Its literally time to pay up and they dont have the money
5. Nostralius magically gets "contacted" by English and French lawyers representing blizzard telling them to shut down their servers by the 10th. Quote: "or as long as the host lets us"
6. No images, screenshots, photos, copy-pasted text over these cease and desist "contacts"
7. Payday is up, blizzard shuts down their servers coincidentially at the same time.
8. Nost sends a sad letter to blizzard, riles up the fans, and promises to leak the source code for the servers.
9. To this day that hasnt happened. Its not like they're busy.

I see crestfall and probably nost going down the same path of failure that blizz did with expansions. I wish they'd make the commitment to slowly develop post naxx content instead, but I custom content has such a bad name in the pserv scene that I doubt it.

don't make frequent trips to town, you want to minimize time spent running just to sell stuff. if you're questing with a good guide you'll know key item drops that sell well on the AH (shredder pages pretty much bought my 40 mount on Nost)
barrens is typically only crowded right around crossroads and that one horrible quest where you break the raptor eggs or whatever, kalimdor leveling gets much less crowded after that

Berserking isn't fully implemented on most private servers, with it giving the flat 10% rather than scaling with health %. I never went and tested it on Nostalrius though.

It's sometimes useful if you want to go into machine gun mode for 15 or so seconds. The racials only matter in PvP really, where orc and tauren are a lot better than troll.

I know I can find patch 1.4 pre-bis spreadsheets on the nost forums, but I haven't found much, if any, info about the leveling. Ownedcore has several very well regarded middle men. That is your best bet. Scams are always possible but they tend to self-police themselves pretty well.
However kronos characters are worth dogshit if anything. And nost characters may sell but likely not right now.
Start looking there to figure more shit out. it's not very complicated.

Something very obvious, but if you post there, never use any name/handle that links back to you, and be very careful identifying your character too specifically. The chances are low of someone looking for people to ban, but it can happen so better to be safe.

i don't want to further detail, but i have a good friend who just got taken completely by his now-ex wife. She cheated on him then wanted a divorce, now she has his 1 kid and a shitload of child support, and he's fighting to be able to see his kid more often.
