Textures look neat, but is kinda ruined by the squares and corners. Having those textures with smoother edges and pillars and capillaries and shit would be mad though.

I imagine it like you're 2 different nanobots fighting for control of someones body.

Can't do much about the corners, without y'know, actually putting significant effort into it. Hows this?

I actually really like the idea of two nanobots killing each other for control as well, but the tron aesthetic that was meant to be placeholder until we did a kickstarter to get money to pay professional artists to do the art/ environmental models has really grown on me.
>>
>>159214816
Much better, now it's giving it an organic hellscape kind of feel.

Don't get too locked in to the Tron thing. I think it looks pretty neat but you should still consider other art styles. You've worked with it for so long you might be more committed to it because it's familiar than because it's better than others.

The problem with unity is the lighting is ass. Its chunky and awful without litterally months of work on really nice textures and custom shaders. See besiege for the best looking unity game. Unfortunately, the other available engines are ass in different ways that would make REM impossible. What we need to do to change REM's aesthetic to something more pleasing than it is, is to halt ALL progress and work on nothing but prettying the game up. We were considering this seriously, specifically after multiplayer was added.

The three Robocraft knockoffs that have all imploded taught us otherwise.

on of the devs actually told me with a totally serious tone that we needed to work on the look of REM before anything else, a week before his entire project died because of mismanagement. We might be the longest running team of our kind to date.

We're really trying to focus on gameplay over the look of the game, while maintaining a minimalist-esc look to prevent FTD levels of uglyness.

Rendering out a quick video of me getting stomped by the AI. Its actually kind of horrifying to be totally outplayed by our own creation.

Yeah, I'd take gameplay over graphics any day. I play Algodoo and DF, so of course I would.

Does any of the AI take into account teamwork stuff, if there's more than one?
>>
>>159215509
Simple, to the point graphics>Parallaxed 4k textured SIK GRAPHIX
Since the game will be PvP, maybe the idea of colour coding things wouldn't be too bad? Basically what is already present, but pushed a bit further.
>>
Here's the video. I didn't speed it up in any way at all, its all raw footage.

>>159215686
>Does any of the AI take into account teamwork stuff, if there's more than one?

Not yet, but when we get custom structual physics in, somewhere around 10000 individual parts would be no problem, over the current 450-ish.

It wouldn't be a very difficult task to code in teamwork to the AI, even if its as simple as targeting a different vessel than the other team-ships. Some more work would be required to invoke wolf-pack esc work, but entirely possible. Swarm AI is also a possibility, where drones fly in formation to common points.

A multiplayer mode that I was thinking up would be similar to Armored Warfare's PVE, where you and some buds fight waves of AI to defend/assault objectives.

I can't play without DFhack. DF's default management system is moonrunes to my fragile brain.

>Yeah, I'd take gameplay over graphics any day.

This is true for all players, even if they don't know it. A good GUI with great gameplay will age incredibly well, even if the graphics are ass.

>>159215890
Shading the panels are an option, but I think custom decals (War thunder customization) and simple WoT style indicators over enemy vessels will suffice.

A simulation mode would remove these indicators, so something a bit more evocative will be required. Differently colored outlines, instead of white, perhaps?

In any case, yes, complex and detailed graphics at insane resolutions simply reduces the amount of players that can play the game while adding nothing to the game itself other than market appeal. Hopefully this will be in our favor.

Hello Engineers! This week’s update contains a good amount of bugfixes. We fixed numerous crashes related to parallelization and other bugs fixed this week include ships with hydrogen thrusters slowly losing altitude, gatling turrets being unable to target anything directly above them and respawn ships spawning outside world limits.
We are happy announce that we will be adding Arindel’s corner lights and corner lcds to the vanilla game. These blocks are very nice indeed and should be releasing in the next couple of weeks. Check them out now via the Steam Workshop:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=530693136
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=611420971

We also give you a small sneak-peak into our improved drone AI which is being worked on at the moment - for example, drones can now strafe, use static weaponry and ship tools and target different grids/blocks/players. For now, this behaviour can only be activated and configured using visual scripting. In the future, we plan to have all drones, cargo ships and pirates in the game using this behaviour. You will also be able to mod your own behaviours. Using the visual scripting tool, you can have drones perform different tasks and follow waypoints when needed allowing them to navigate tight spaces. These are just some of the many possibilities that scenario creators will have at their disposal, so check out the update video!

Thats what im talking about.
Even doing some retextures in the ship itself would add some.
If you take it serious, you dont really need something as complex.
Actually, the hardest part, is to put round tubes and hubs with tron graphics and avoid hurting your eyes.
Spirals will fuck up everyone up, but if you put a gif as a texture doing some sort of wave-pulse going like a flow following the blood strain, and then, if you want to put some kind of help to not crash into the walls, make them brighter as you aproach it.
That way you will keep it as simple as possible, textured and somehow keeping the artstyle
Going deeper would be redoing the meshes of all components to be more like biological parts of the cell, replace guns with protein ejectors, recolor thrusters and i think you are pretty much done.
There is not that much into it, you can copy any cave system from any game as a map example.
Even a single dungeon in daggerfall would make an awesome (and maybe too big) map.

it seemed to work alright for long distance trekking in single player. Until it comes across any steep hills, long jumps, or rocky patches of course, but I feel like those can be avoided with careful routing. Seemed much floatier on the serb when I was in control, hopefully if/when dev works again it'll be better

Might as well just use plain AP CRAM at this point. %holy shit son% of AP will certainly fuck up anything in it's path.
>splash power
Why would you even need that? Neither radius, nor damage are sufficient to take out the armored shield projector by the blast, even less so with most of the charge diverted to HEAT-head. Fuse in this case is pointless and you should replace it with another warhead.

Solution to your problems, since you seem to need high-velocity round, would be utilizing several types of ammunition:
Disruptor + EMP to take out the shields
HEAT + HE to snipe out key systems/fuel/ammo
HESH + HE to destroy unprotected interior, maybe bite off a chunk of the hull

Now with AA for flying spiders removal.
I can't even play in the middle of the night desu, was trying this right now and I could barely turn on the platform, enabling gyros made it 100x worse.
Guess I can't into wheels afterall.
Btw I just copied the measures from a real car, I think it was a dodge ram, then invented a bit of the parts that wouldn't fit.
It's 2x the real sizes because fuckhueg wheels blocks wouldn't allow the right width.
>>
>>159275493
The extra splash would be for destroying more fragile outside fittings like detection equipment, or taking out internal systems when a hole opens up in the enemy's armour.
Thinking about that, though, I'll probably go with a separate shell type for that duty. How is HESH? I haven't really seen it used much.
>>
>>159276501
>detection equipment
Well fuck me sideways, I completely forgot about it.
Though a shield far enough should outrange the splash.
>How is HESH? I haven't really seen it used much.
If internals are not behind spaced armor, they might get shredded.

When will we get a proper ammo management interface? I want to fine-tune the amount and order of ammunition in "clips"
Can't Nick unify simplify ammo delivery? Like when battery got unified with the chargers for railguns.
Just make ammo inputs deliver abstract "ammo" instead and let us specify in the cannon submenu, akin to railgun settings, what ammo, how much and in which order to load into the "clips"

I keep shilling heightmaps but that's really all you need for waypoint creation pathfinding. It looks like keen is putting rudimentary pathfinding AI at last so all you'd need to do is make those course waypoint lists and feed them to the unit. You could do something like this right now using the fleet command script and some code, storing a rough heightmap in the mothership/base and using that to get a decent series of waypoints for the truck/robot/tank/whatever.

Everything needs crew to operate, crew have needs, you hire them from stations, they work in shifts, require lodging, ship interiors now matter a ton.

And we've been waiting for two years. How are you unaware?

Well shit. I figured, since I can't build corridors that don't look like shit, I might as well just use transporters to move between sections of the ship. I sincerely hope crew will be able to utilize them too or else it will be a logistic nightmare.

Is it worth to fiddle around with PID-controllers for depth management with air pumps?
Regular ACBs should handle the pitch for diving and some semblance of PID control, i.e. submerging upon detecting an enemy.

Thanks for letting me know you're retarded, holy shit. Why would you want to pay MORE for LESS? And you wonder why your economies are shit. but wat about the old (ded) mod that was just small grid blocks but even teenier? it used all the same designs, just smaller until keen "fixed" it away

>>159376046
We're all well aware what making those assets takes. The warbros modpack has warbros mods in it for a reason. The problem is whatever hack originally enabled microgrids the first time around was patched out, killing the mod forever. We don't know why or how.
>>
>>159376213
The game doesn't let you mod shit willy-nilly anymore. You have to define the new grid type at startup (and defined at compile-time) and mods cannot use any code outside of the ModAPI sandbox or it won't "compile".

Sure, I could disable those restrictions, or add in new bindings to get around them, but I'm seeing diminishing returns and a low chance for anyone to hop on board and help out with project of this scale.
>>
>>159376532
If you put a prototype of micro scale grids into SECE even with placeholders and show that it can be done, I'm sure the old guys would be willing to do the modelling for it. We did a lot of the warbros block type mods ourselves.

You get to play a broken ass version with low frame rates and bugs, and get to report any strange shit you see so we can compile data and fix that shit. Hardware stats also valuable, particularly cpu and gpu.

We also just discovered that the lights on the thrusters were being frame hogging whores, and fixed it. Webms soon. After I resync the whole fucking thing again.

Technically speaking, everything ever made is 'aged', the degree to which it is aged however is an entirely different matter.

>>159390913
That's the old version, we'd upload a test version before releasing it 'officially.' Which is to say we'd post it here and hope for the best. We're just ironing out some known bugs as we speak, specifically an interesting issue with the tracers not connecting with the ship that they hit.

Thanks I'll take another look and see what I'm doing wrong.

I could have sworn that on other ships I could have 3 different ammo controllers and they would stay set at 3 different calibers.

Also I wish there was a faster way to switch ammo. Atm I have to run a different turret for each type of ammo.

Mengies needs:

1. crops, for the same reasons you mentioned but also for more comfiness
2. food processing and more fleshed out mechanics regarding servants and food
3. metallurgy and progression. small blocks made from metal for more options when sieging (ram head, bomb case, ballista head)
4. a shader that causes the planet to look more flat. it's really jarring that it looks like you're living on a tiny moon in a medieval game.
5. less clangy mechanics
6. a rather large and active multiplayer server with opt-in PVP and offline protection

Some kind of script that would activate gyro roll in the opposite direction of turning would already be pretty helpful, then you could turn up the friction without worrying about flipping over every time you want to turn. sadly I can't into code
>>
>>159437237
>I can't into code
then just start learning it.
you already described what you have to code.
>>
>>159437237
flight assist would do that by forcefully aligning you to the gravity, but there are many problems:

1) what about slopes? Even if you strip down FA to just roll control, you will still have your car trying to right itself up when inclined laterally. This can somewhat be solved with weakening gyros on command, sort of like when you lock differentials when facing harsh terrain

2)It will never work on serber because things like this rely on being called every tick. You'd have to find a compromise between burning Keo's house and your car flipping itself over because too much delay.

A simple solution without any scripting would be two sensors, one on each side, and two gyros, overridden to roll in opposite directions. Gyros normally off, when the car rolls too much the sensor on the side detects ground and turns on a gyroscope carefully set to roll the car in the other direction.
When it doesn't detect the ground anymore, it turns off the gyro.
Same on the other side, with another gyroscope.
Again, I recall sensors being bad for servers but I think this was over a year ago, they're probably okay now.
I think the sensors also have a 1m range lower limit, for whatever fucking reason.
>>
>>159438240
`>sensor detects the ground
won't work, sensors only seem to detect "sea level" or whatever you want to call it. The average height? Who knows. They also won't detect the ground above the sea level average height thing.

Isn't the "sealevel" just related to the original (not altered by digging or building) voxel? I only used sensors on asteroids so I don't really know how they work on planets, but the altitude thing works that way.
>>
>>159439876
No, it only detects some imaginary ground level, nothing to do with what has or hasn't been mined. Stop guessing.
>>
>>159433465
Old sensor design is old.

Put sensors near to detect the wheels when moving.
So, if the left sensor catch the wheel, it turns on a gyro on override in that direction, and turn it off when it loses detection.

It was used for years for blinkers.

>anywhere near greg levels
it might seem daunting, but it's honestly simple and rather devoid of much to do

you find your different metals, you melt them down in what ever they need to be melted in:
Ceramic pot for early game copper/bronze alloy metal
Bloomery for Wrought Iron, along with charcoal
Blast furnace for Pig iron, along with more charcoal, which you manufacture into steel
and the crucible to melt down everything, including other metals to get your red/blue steel alloys, which are the top teir

all and all it's bretty simple and easy once you figure it out, a walk in the park compared to the nightmarish bullshit that is greg

and that is bretty much the complex part of tfc
>>
>>159452318
It's still a much more interesting system than vanilla Minecraft and actually encourages you to explore for the different metals. It's just a bitch to get to work with other mods for more content.
>>
>>159452318
the long bits are exploration desu. Because everything is in different rock layers you have to explore for a long ass time to get the rare shit. The biggest limiter is Graphite, because you can't make a Crucible without it.

That and the forging minigame.

A friend of mine had a multiplayer server with it for awhile, along with an assload of mods that were integrated for a farther endgame, all still difficult to do. We had gotten to the point of having an electrically lit city powered by a massive bank of water wheels before people got burnt out.
>>
>>159451590
It's actually quite fun if you get some people to build a settlement together.
Not your regular fun, mind you. Factorio-kind of fun.

>>159452318

git gud
Just plan ahead what are you going to do and in which sequence.
Making alloys is way more tricky. One little mistake, one little moment of inattentiveness, and the crucible is now full of useless slag.
>>
>>159452826
>the long bits are exploration desu
Now you have my attention.

In fact, if there is something that, at least for me, would make Thaumcraft better would be a bigger focus on exploration and constructions.

I mean, the current system is nice but it kinda feels, i dunno, cheap, in the sense that stuff seems too common.

I mean, nodes are supposed to be places where enormous power that shapes the world surges forth, having them every other chink kinda lessen the effect.
I'd cream my pants a hundred times if Azanor found a way to keep it simple and accessible while making it simply grand in the endgame.
Also, making the whole flux-taint aspect a bit more than a annoyance, in the original one it was a byproduct of using the various tools and to contrast it you had to build contraptions of filters and purifiers hooked to a tainted crystal while in the current version you just... Place a block to delete the annoying goop that happens if you don't put enough candles around the pedestal.
>>

Welcome to Crossout, where the only viable builds are rectangular boxes of overpowered super light armor that lets shots pass through them doing hardly any damage, with 10-12 wheels so that you cant possibly hope to disable them, and if you use anything other than these box builds, you get shit on.

I actually tried a shitter build, not really a rectangular box but invisibility + explosive lances and holy shit is it harder then it looks. The lances will get caught on everything and will often break off or fail to ignite on contact, which is frustrating. There seems to be a delay with invisibility with NPCs, 3 seconds after initializing the cloak they will still shoot at me usually disabling the cloak.

Also, I don't know if they tweak the AI in recent updates but they used to miss alot when i ran with my boat, now driving around at 100mph and they keep hitting me with pinpoint accuracy with cannons.

There are some pretty sweet ass drill presses out there that can be found used pretty cheap. Like under $1000 cheap. Find one with a really nice table that lets you clamp pieces down and move them around with the big hand wheels while you use special drill bits to carve things out.

Have to be good with your hands though, and learn to do everything yourself, and learn proper techniques. Look up special charts for what bits for different applications, and what speeds to set the machine to for different materials.

You can even get attachments that slowly spray oil on whatever your cutting to lube/cool your drillbits.

Everybody should have one of these in their garage with a few chucks of steel.

Should watch this VICE documentary(from when VICE was actually good). Theres dudes that travel around the world doing truck driving trips for big money, and they followed a guy to Africa and show all the bullshit that happens.

At one point they are so low everything, and shits breaking down non-stop that they use an old african trick and start cramming bananas into the wheels for lube every few miles.

The truck is literally FUCKED by the end of the trip, but they dont give a shit because its africa, and with the job complete they get to fly back home.

Any Factorio spaghetti masters here? I need some help putting the finishing touches on this thing here. I call it the pocket omnifactory.

In case its not clear, the belt that starts on the top right and goes down the left side is split iron plate/steel plate. The red belt that drops down in front of the copper wire assemblers is split copper plate/coal. and the yellow belt that starts on the top left is raw stone.

My end goal is to get this thing as close to 48x48 as i can get so it tiles well with the solar farm blueprint everyone uses. I plan on making as much of my base as possible in 46x46-48x48 squares so I can tile roboport coverage and maintain walkways between.

That's up to you, but having them on a turret might help if you're having trouble getting them to hit [for example, while broadsiding]

In the end I just built two versions, one with two fixed 10 block torpedo launchers, and one with two turreted 7 block torpedo launchers with 3 torpedoes each. They're a bit of a pinch to fit on the hull, but the AI seems competent enough to avoid lobbing a live torpedo onto the deck. One ejector is more than enough to cast them far ahead of the nose.
>>
>>159511587
Looks pretty good, how fast do they go?
>>
>>159512197
The stock version can get up to 32.9 Knots (16.9 m/s) falling into a troughs. The turreted version pulls a bit less in exchange for it's extra firepower, 16.4 m/s or 31.8 Knots.
>>
>>159511587

Not having a turret would limit your field of fire, but it's totally feasible. Motor barrels and wide mantlets would help counter that downside

it would be rather weak because you can only fire 1/4 or 2/4 of your turrets at once.

Pyramid hull best hull fuck the haters.

Seems like clean, angled sides actually help deflect shells but like everyone says turrets are almost mandatory. You might get away with unturreted lasers.

Pyramid is more efficient on shields too since the angled side shields eliminate the need for a top shield.
>>
>>159515810
incorrect

sloped blocks still have box hitboxes, meaning you're literally taking more damage by sloping your hull

the only way to get the deflection effect right is to put straight armor plates on spin blocks
>>
>>159515810
I'm not sure about ingame, but in real life shells typically come in at a decent angle. Infact theres a usual best range for guns to allow plunging fire onto the deck. A straight sided hull would be better except at close ranges.

You can start by watching videos on jewtube, or do the other alternative, that is getting a game (buy it or pirate it, that's left to you) and tinker with it until you know how to play. And then, extrapolate to other games.

>>
>>159567145
>>159567289

Yeah, NPC factions that actually take up space and eat up rescourses are being added in soon. Youll have actual shit to fight in singleplayer now if you want, or NPC factions to fill out dead servers so people have stuff to fight.

And some time after that they will add NPC characters that you can hire to work on your stations and ships that will improve various areas of performance on your ship as those NPCs level up.

Like say you get a guy named Frank, and you assign him to your scanning computer, and after a while Frank levels up in scanning, and now your ships scans will recharge 10% faster or something. Stuff like that.

They also said they want crews of NPCs to need certain requirements that have to be met, or else they mutiny and attack you.

And apparently planets will have something to do with recruiting NPCs. So strip mining planets to their core or blowing them up will probably be a really bad thing to do now.

Actually, if you think about it, they don't - sure they are better than rookies out of the box and you can manufacture them by hundreds, but they don't level up, don't improve. You just churn out more or switch to the next tier.

>That and they take resources to manufacture. Guess that brings some balance to my obsession.
Yet planets become pointless for you, you can entirely exist nomadically, the resources will likely cost much less and be much more available in many scenarios than planets and stations with sufficient crewmembers. You do this, and robots will be the meta full stop. Meatbags will be wildly more expensive in infrastructure alone given the fact that you no longer have any need of a planet and thus needn't invest in the infrastructure and defense of one.

They'll be generated on planets and hired from stations. We've known about several details of the NPC update for some time, hence we're only back to arguing over it with the faction update progress report.

Allow station to replenish and train people so that they are not totally useless. Maybe take the SPAZ route and add cloning facilities that grow people at small resource cost off-planet. Gotta have them spare goons.
>you can entirely exist nomadically
Not if you want to produce and build shit. Factories and shipyards are still station-only. Except unlike planets, stations can be founded anywhere, even in the void sectors on the outskirts of the galaxy.
>robots will be the meta
You use meatbags when you need peak performance. Like on titans, which are too expensive to lose, or spec ops fleets for attacking or pushing through key enemy positions.
Drones are more of a general-purpose alternative.
Besides, you could employ both the expendable clunkers and the seasoned meatbag veterans.

Yes, and?
Ship only needs a small core of skilled crewmembers, rest is perfectly manageable by even a drunk monkey, even more so by a drone.

Here's a thought: crew-operated drone control terminals that impart % of the operators' skill to the drones under it's control. Each terminal can only efficiently control a number of drones before the bonus is reduced.
Something like that would be really useful for security drones, operated by your meatbag shitcurity, keeping their squishy bodies out of harm's way.
Imagine that shit and the mutiny going on.

>need circuit network because 1 wood = 1.5 saplings
Explain how the process (wood to sapling, vice versa) works, 'cause it sounds like you're retarded and don't actually need circuit network.

I still think it's an idiotic idea that removes much of what it means to hold sovereignty and most of the advantage, meaning it will never happen.
>>
>>159574635
1 wood makes 1.5 saplings with a crafting time of .5.
No idea why the fuck it isn't 2 wood makes 3 saplings with a crafting time of 1, but it is.

Factorio doesn't handle 1/2 items well, so it rounds down if an inserter moves it, leading to it to making 1 sapling per wood. Probably because it isn't really possible to belt 1/2 of an item.
For some reason, 1/2 items are fine in the actual assemblers, though they aren't shown.

Therefor, the inserter needs to only move things if the amount of saplings in the assembler are greater than or equal to 3.

>1 wood makes 1.5 saplings with a crafting time of .5
I assume saplings are in turn made into wood in another machine, creating a loop that effectively converts electricity into wood.
Going by the fuckery seen in furmod, I'll assume this can effectively produce free energy, but that's another topic.

Introducing a deliberate bottleneck into the production might solve your problem.
The production of wood consists of a problematic wood-to-sapling step (A) and a harmless sapling-to-wood step (B)
Use an excess of A to feed B. If the ideal ratio is 1:1, instead try 2:1 or 3:1 - make sure to use splitters, so that workload is distributed across A assemblers.
Doing this, the belt feeding B will quickly saturate with saplings, giving the A assemblers opportunity to fill their internal buffers - thus avoiding the half-item issue.

If possible, you could use a very slow inserter to empty A assemblers.
If the saplings are produced faster than they can be pulled out, then they will accumulate in the internal buffer, again eliminating the half-item issue.
This latter option of course requires a very slow inserter and a very fast assembler - the latter might not be accessible at your current tech level.

An item is an item. You can't just say it's half an item.

a burner inserter would work if saplings burn

It gets into spaghetti territory, but you could use another inserter to fuel the burner inserter.

Because everything comes in boxes
Because cans also come to stores in boxes
Because we're a developed nation and need ways to store and transport goods en masse, and boxes are an easy and efficient way of doing so
How is this even a question?
And better yet, what sort of packaging do the people in your godforsaken corner of the world use?
