Unity is being really odd today. This time, one of the guns stops firing, and the remaining gun fires, but its model CLANGS regardless of physical properties every time it fires. But only outside of the editor.

No idea what you're referring to here, we're adding in a totally custom physics system. Our version is indeed up to date. These are also totally new bugs, which probably occurred when we increased the weld strength on the guns to keep them from snapping off so easily.

Thanks but won't the AI just take control of the ACB hydrofoils?

Right now the sub uses PID hydrofoil depth control (dry interior is comfier) and ACB propellers for roll stability. The AI overrides both of those systems when turned on and the sub goes into a derp spiral
>>
>>159586842
>Thanks but won't the AI just take control of the ACB hydrofoils?
No. AI's not smart enough to actually control the whole sub.
Make sure you're not using AI-PID. AI is supposed to take control of the propellers, whether it's for main propulsion or maneuvering. You might want to replace rudder with a set of propellers so the sub won't roll on turning, screwing up the hydrofoil depth control.

Cheese happens when milk goes bad and it starts to acidify causing it to split the curds and whey. You can heat up milk that's gone bad and notice the fat separate naturally instead of adding lemon juice if you wanted to make cheese at home using fresh milk.

Most foods were invented out of the need for preservation. Cooking, smoking, salting, brining, fermenting, pickling, candying, and so on. Beer was used to preserve grain; up until the last few centuries, the alcohol content in said beer was very low, making it totally reasonable for children to drink.

Rennet was originally extracted from the stomachs of calves - these days the majority is produced by means of genetically modified microorganisms.
If one were to use a calf's stomach as an improvised bag, one would find that the milk contained within would curdle and harden over time.
Eventually, one adventurous (or desperate, it's all the same when you're hungry) soul must've sampled the bag's contents.

>>159591619
Also poses a possible route of discovery.
>You can heat up milk that's gone bad and notice the fat separate naturally
Mind you, it's not just fat that separates out, but also a significant amount of proteins.
Ricotta is made by carefully heating the whey of goat cheese, and gathering whatever precipitates.

When I lived in Canada for a spell, I had a local bar/microbrewery with a kitchen. The staff and I got along really well, so I ended up having the privilege of being to able to order whatever I wanted. As long as the kitchen had the ingredients, they'd make it. I ordered breakfast at noon, despite them not having a breakfast menu. Cooks and chef would magick something up. Continental-style, Californian, whatever.

One day, I ordered a grilled cheese. Not on the menu, because it was all "sweet potato fries", and "steak with arugula salad" and shit like that. No boring-ass grilled cheese here. So when I ordered, one of the younger cooks blinked at me and said "aight, lemme try this", and came back with two slices of sour-dough and some melted cheese he had heated up in a pan. It was more dry than my ex after I told her she needs to stop being such a cunt. So, there I was, with his chef sitting across from me on the patio, shooting the shit, and we look at this sad, cardboard-like abomination of a bread and scratch our collective heads.

"Shawn, come over here. What is this?"

Turns out, he had never made a Grilled Cheese before, and he had no clue what the essentials were. So, chef and I went into the kitchen (as in, I stood at the doorstep, because rules) and trained Shawn how to grill a cheese. The butter, my friend. Add some of that back bacon. Yeah, now some spices.

After that, Shawn was able to magick one of the sickest loaded Grilled Cheese I had had in my life. Good times.

Water skins were made from stomachs of animals, they usually have leftover enzymes there that curdle milk. Probably some dude carried milk in it, it curled and made some sort of ricotta, then he replicated, the milk entered in contact with local bacteria and yeast and ta daa. The funy thing is it's an almost direct historical line to those people, kombucha, shoyu etc all use the same strain for years.
>>
>>159622623
A new day, a new thread, an old request. Pic related is my rev 3 attempt at making what I call a Pocket Omnifactory. Basically the idea is: you pop this down in the corner of where you want to start making your big, final base and then just go to town with the construction bots while this keeps them fed.

What I need is for this to get a final spaghetti pass to trim it down to a square footprint and de-tangle all the belts. I'm working on a rev 4, 48x48 build, but I'm reaching the blurry-eyes/throbbing headache stage so I'm going to ask for help and go to bed.

Some questions that came up last time:

>OMG its so heug! Why are you building that? Why are you making all that random crap when you can craft it by hand?

...You're new to Factorio aren't you?

>Why aren't you making X with it?

Blue chips are only used in one building: the rocket silo. That should be made by the main base, not this thing. By the time you can plop this down as a blueprint, steam power is obsolete and you likely have your research block completed already, so I didn't bother adding any of that. I'm planning on making a second block that focuses on engine units and everything that uses them: trains and flamethrower turrets specifically. It promises to be much smaller and simpler so I likely won't need help with that.

Well most cellphones batteries are lithium. Tesla is going to make lithium xboxhueg batteries. And lithium air batteries promise to have a energy density similar to gasoline. The problem with lithium it's that it's not so common and most places where it's found either have political, ecological or both problems that hamper extraction. (Bolivia's government wants a 60% cut of everything extracted there so nobody tries, that leaves the atacama desert overworked etc)

The only material that might have a better energy density or, at least, better properties, would be some specific modifications of carbon. Think nanocarbon lattice, but we have problems with manufacturing and with price. There likely won't be a better alternative to lithium for the next century or so, unless we get cheap fusion energy down (somehow).

Fusion makes so much power it's hard to imagine anyone making enough money off of it to reliably start an industry.
It can also be compact as fuck.

machinecraft for all its glory is not fast enough, not smooth enough, doesn't control enough and leaves just a little too much freedom for racer building to be any fun (stack enough invisible reaction wheels and thrusters and you can make any racer go 900kph and turn on a dime = boring)

imagine if you had some robocraft or FTD kind of simplistic but still potentially complex block building system and craft scoring metric tacked on to a game that runs as smooth and FAST as redout

The key to making a true podracing game is not only vehicle customisation, but combining that with collision damage.
It's having both of these features at the same time that seems to really fuck with developers, since the only current games that have this are Besiege (which does not really have any way to hover without extremely careful balancing of lift, and is also singleplayer) and Spengies (which is useless for multiple people racing simultaneously because lol keen).

It doesn't need to be individual voxels, but at least make it different sections. It at the very least LOOKS more interesting, if not plays differently.
Hell it doesn't even need to be voxel-based building, especially if the game is focused on vehicle creation (remember, podracers are at least three different parts).
>>
>>159654213
i was picturing something like crossout or robocraft style building, where you smash together larger functional parts and maybe also chassis bits, the overall score of the craft is judged from what you stuffed on it and once ingame it magically works, just with different stats like handling, grip, top speed, acceleration and durability as well as whatever powerup modules you may have added.

That just sounds like a racing game with slight customisation though.
I think we're both looking at this from different angles. I'm going for more of a 'physics/engineering game where you race' than 'racing game where you engineer a bit'.
>>
>>159656013
that's just the issue. it's very hard to fine tune a racing game to cater to the ability to make basically any kind of racer from scratch. i would love to see an ACTUAL GAME come out of all of these tech demos and pre alpha prototypes and early access steam release construction games we keep seeing but it's always the same OH BUT ITS A SANDBOX YOU CAN BUILD WHAT EEEVEEER YOU LIKE 100% FREEDOM! EXPLORE A PROCEDURALLY GENERATED UNIVERSE! NEVER MIND THE LACK OF CONTENT AND POLISH AND HOW EASY IT IS TO BREAK THE BALANCE
>>
>>159656407
I don't know how to made a proper voxel game (i could do a racing game without the "build your vehicle like in robojej" part). BUT, if i ever learn how to do it, i'll make a voxel racing game.
>>
>>159656407
That's usually because the sort of people who want sandboxes have literally no idea how to make games.

The simplest way to start off would be just limiting what the player has, and force them to earn points/shekels/[insert_currency] to buy more parts. It pains me to say this, but Robocraft actually got something right in that regard. They got barely anything else in the game right (including the balance of said parts/currency), but still.
>>
>>159657070
spot on and this pains me too. robocraft is like that lego game i dreamt of as a kid except it shattered my expectations time and time again

>>159656803
i'm sure you could start with the racing part of the game, and just have the voxel racers replace whatever placeholder racer you were using for testing, and let the different parts of the voxel racer determine what stats it has in the racing game. that way you can work on making a smooth racing game to start and maybe on the way learn a thing or two about voxels and implement that, and if you don't, you at least made a neat racing game.
>>
>>159636565
It´s really not a Tokamak, it´s geometry is far more complex. The Wendelstein thing is the first implementation of a stellerator with an computer-optimized chamber design, and the thing about stellerators is that you don´t need to drive a current through the plasma to shape it into the tokamak´s unnatural donut form.

You can´t charge plasma really reliably, so the you can only run ITER for 400 seconds, Wendelstein is targeting 1600, so the latter is more economic right now.

Finding out if and how to run Tokamak´s in longer pulses is one of ITER´s current goal, but sticking to some ancient soviet design might not be the most practicable solution here.

Anyway, new 1 bit adder design. It doesn't use those pesky T-shaped bars I had to use for the OR function but instead uses pure rod logic magic. It also only requires 1 level of intermediate rods (the blue ones going down) so it should be faster to run once I string them together.

I messed around with anti-munitions guns in Ftd for a while but they seem to be useless.

Even if I could get them to actually fire at missiles, which is probably never going to happen since the timed fuses, special LWC and laser thing refuse to work together.

Even if it worked by the time the turret actually points at the missile it would have hit the bote already. fuckin gay as aids.

I lost all will to play when I realised that the game still cannot do basic necessities properly. Cars are busted, merging is clanging as hell, sensors spazz out, the client-server motion prediction causes teleporting, the performance is still abyssmal, having ships of any respectable size causes massive physics-related performance issues, jump drives crash the server, jump drives teleport you light years from where you wanted to go with no way to get back, and so on.

I am here, and if someone messages me on Steam, I'll do my best to fix things, but I am no longer playing.

Apologies, I can see that is misleading. Here's what's happening:
Copper and iron is split off their respective belts on the bus and mixed (in a controlled ratio), then refined into green chips and offloaded to the green chip belt of the bus.
It's really just an attempt at making more compact (and cheap) production.

You're absolutely right.
A yellow belt can only support 5.5 or so green chip assemblers (along with their associated wire assemblers).
I deliberately built an excess of assemblers.

>one badly timed jam sends plates into your green chip bus
Filtering off any "leftovers" is a process so mundane, I considered it pointless to include in the screenshot.
Contaminating the green chip bus with plates is simply not possible with this setup.

That being said, it is entirely possible for the production to lock up completely, should it for some reason be impossible to get rid of the leftovers.

Take pic related for example, the pilot mane those maneuvers in a 737, with a gun pointed at his head and his co-pilot brains everywhere and that's not it, he ended his maneuver right in front of the landing strip and managed to knock the hijacker down (it didn't worked tho). A 737 isn't made to handle that kind of shit. Technically it should have been torn to pieces.

Most of the cut from PC to consoles was the shadows framerate, and the ammount of objects that have physics.
The point was to show how it was going to be.
try it on the lowest settings, but put some little patch of grass arround you, imagine that everything looks a little shittier, and use something to cap the game at 24fps and simspeed to .6 constant, and there you have it.
>>
>>159799529
>and the amount of objects that have physics
Spengies is literally all physics m8.
That, specifically, is what I'm talking about.
I've no doubt that they could handle spengies graphically, it's not that impressive.
It's the physics I'm pretty sure they can't do.
>>
>>159799612
>cut the voxel count for anything by making the voxel bigger
>condense blocks physics into prebaked groups so you can calculate a 27 blocks cube as 1
You can do the same im both fields, its just making more stuff canned, instead of an actual phsysical objet that can interact and has calculations instead of scripted shit.
I remember a portal dev video about this.
calculations went to shit when the cube was going through them and killed the framerate, so they just cut the detections per second, tune it untill they found a balance and its very hard to notice the change between them.
There is allways something to cut resources from.
>>
>>159799612
>It's the physics I'm pretty sure they can't do.

I started playing after everything became one single resource. I don't care about your butthurt levels right now I've got hillary supporters to be an asshole to.

IMO there's room for more than one resource but if this simplifies and speeds up development I don't really care, the appeal of ftd is not how many resource types it has.
>>
>>159804508
Frankly, FtD has little to no depth.
As an RTS, FtD has a unit selection that is basically infinite as you design them from the ground up.
Not that it matters, because you're drowning in resources, and the opposing factions are for the most part passive.
There is no pressure from a restrictive economy or time, as you'll be facing only minimal aggression.
The difficulty is sandbox tier, and there's little pressure to develop and produce the "correct" units.

If you want to design RTS units, then FtD is a treasure trove that should not be missed.
If you want to play a challenging RTS, then come back in a few years (or never).

What spengies lacks and what Ftd delivers in spades is combat. It has combat out the ass and the guns have more hours of content on their own than a lot of full games.

>What would make you happy?
Did I not make my points of criticism sufficiently clear?
Resources become a non-issue very quickly. Significantly reduce the resource output of each node, so that economy has at least some relevance.
The AI is timid, and will rarely do anything else than fortify current territories. Going to war with an AI should have consequences - the AI must attack frequently and in force.
Even these two changes could spark life into the campaign and raise it from sandbox-tier.

>What spengies lacks and what Ftd delivers in spades is combat
Spengies lacks combat because it is basically impossible to find an opponent (pirates and doges notwithstanding).
FtD throws loaves of soggy bread at you, calling them worthy challengers.
In terms of "significance of combat", Spergies is 0 and FtD is 10. on a scale from 0 to 10000

>the guns have more hours of content on their own than a lot of full games
Sure, you could spend two days getting that cannon just right.
But why bother with perfection, when "barely working" is still superior to what the AI has?

Not impossible, but it requires unbalanced radar mods that don't account for cross section, return or anything but range limits, or getFreeDestination tricks that are both very intensive on player-programmers and on the chopping block in the future. It is mostly used for WVR missile guidance.

The most viable plan we have yet is waiting for Spengoes to reach End of Life status, and fully implement SECE as our definitive version.

I usually start designing something when I've been inspired by something initially, then I'll look up similar things to try and work in/base it on.

Relies on direct line of sight, and by extension requires the user to already have found the victim.
From what I can see, it cannot be used for actually find players.

Those that I find seem to have a range of about 50km - identical to the maximum view distance.
I'm not familiar with the common server settings (and so don't know if 50km is ever used), but what good is a radar that only sees as far as the eye?

It can be used for that. You have to design a wide-area search grid (on two planes because space) and then write the software to operate it, and smaller tracking elements for engagement.

It's incredibly complicated and practically requires an entire dedicated EWAR ship but doable.

A small price to pay, really.

It could be described like that, except that you can fully design the hull, this pict for example is just me trying to make the fastest ship possible.

Yes, everything within the available hull. (and as I said I once modded the game to have a Millenium Falcon looking hull, if you are really interested I'll try to find where I put the picture)

on this one pict >>159811172 for ex, I'm the one who put the HUGE engine at the middle and slapped generator around to control it.

...then I realized I needed a cockpit. Silly me.
This is of course not a working combat ship.

It's a single player game, with NPC crew. The story is nowhere complete but the last version 0.5 have it somewhat playable with economy and cargo, enemy to fight, station to dock with and combat aliens.

Just so you know : you can fire a missile-drill at asteroid then mine them from inside in person. (strange I know but your own base is inside an asteroid)

>>
>>159813524
As the guy who first posted about it, you are being harsh.
It do run much better now that it did before, the devs had to change the very engine it was built on because it was no longer supported.

For the features, well, true it certainly don't look like much externally (build ship, shoot stuff, board station shoot alien) but it created a world that isn't just procedurally generated enemy. It added missions, scenario, progression, factions, crew you can order, EVA, stuff that didn't existed at all.
Also it definitely tidied up the earlier mechanic (moving inside ship without being blocked on stuff, friendly fire, AI)

I'm no developer but I'm not surprised it take long when you have a small team and your only mean of funding get pirated by guy constantly waiting for it to get better before they pay anything.

Not judging, early-access is a shaky model.

I tried using that for a four bar linkage project I had in my mechanism design class.

I was a mess with it.

I guess I just didn't know how to use it.

I use solidworks autoCAD usually at school.

and those were a lot easier to pick up and use.

Looking for some fun design things that calm me down and put me into an enviroment of autism.

Is the new step in the simplification of FtD.
Instead of having to set up complicated refineries and remembering to add fuel tanks to your craft, you can now burn materials directly for power.
>>
>>159827898
those
>>
>>159828012
Moreover, due to the fact they are steam engines you can pull in the steampunk crowd.

So, apparently the EMDrive works.
How does it compare against a flashlight in terms of thrust though? I know it's efficiency is pretty bad.
>>
>>159830730
The EmDrive generates more thrust than a flashlight does, because of this one can make EM drive perpetual motion machines.

>>
>>159834791
No, that's very clean. But nix the loops and consider lowering the number of labs. You're going to have some growing pains with level 3 science and all that entails, but that's just how things go.
>>
>>159835572
Not him, but I've never used the burner inserters outside of the tutorials at all. Is there something they're good for?
>>
>>159838036
Well for one thing you don't have to put poles all over the place to power them. As long as you have fuel, they'll work. Granted, they produce pollution, but it is negligible compared to, say, bunch of e-furnaces.
And the other is that you can make super-compact parallel boiler setups with only one fuel input belt. Basically, you sandwich b.inserters between layers of boilers - inserters will "steal" fuel from the previous layer for themselves and their boilers.
>>
>>159838036
This >>159838895 plus you never have to worry about brown-outs leading to a total factory meltdown. Although I suppose you could avoid that with some logistics.
>>
>>159817979

With minor adjustment to cram in steam engines+poles linearly, it makes for a pretty damn good power plant.
One could argue about using two inserters to cross the gap between boilers or using splitters+belt. Works either way, though inserter chain seem cheaper.

Still, you can't beat the super-compactness of the lowermost setup.
>>
>>159786505
Thanks a lot anon.
>>
shall we start hedging bets on how spongos will be fixed? or shall we skip straight to the dev gassing
>>
>>159841201
In addenum: b.inserters also have the benefit of not relying on the power they help produce not directly anyway so if you happen to suddenly run out of fuel, you won't have to jumpstart the whole thing by fueling boilers yourself.

I really just fucking want the NPC faction patch to drop. I'm terrified it'll be simplified, however. In FtD, fleets and forcecomp of CPU factions is decided at the runtime of the battle system. Ships are pulled from a pool of points. I'm afraid that, along with the already confirmed minor abstractions confirmed then we'll get even more simplified stuff. In a perfect word, fleet battles between NPC factions would be played out in realtime so that ship design actually plays a role. We both know what happens though.

iirc the an-225 lacks this feature. Which is interesting because china is going to begin mass production of the an225 soon.

Of course you don't, you're being an idiot for thinking it would be interesting to play right now.

It's not in the category of things that would be interesting to play.
It's in the category of things that might be interesting to play when they're done.
And things that are interesting to follow the development of.
And things that are interesting to fiddle with.

FUCKING NO
I know we deal with a lot of incomplete bullshit in this general, but I will NEVER agree with rushing development of games
A huge amount of infamously bad products throughout history were caused by the creators going 'oh yeah sure we can do this in [x] time', or 'oh no we're taking longer than we thought, better shove everything in at once to ship it on time'

We already have plenty of borderline abandoned games here due to devs saying "Yeah we've put all the interesting bits in, come play it early!" and then people discovering how fucking broken they were to play. Basics first, THEN the extras.

i post sometimes in their forums, and it is a hugbox. but still, everyone hates how buggy and shit is the game, there is even a poll with "the biggest issues" and the winner is... multiplayer.
Still, core mechanics like controls are below console standards, and they werent even mentioned, but they are trying to recode it for the bone, so they hope they could get money there, and its possible that will skip this xbox gen, the game saw rise and die the 900 series from geforce and a few cpu's.
and its still on alpha (pre alpha of how playable it is)
Its going to take like 4 more years?
i prefer to put that time into build an empire in that game, if the projections of a long run are solid.

so for the first time I have this beautiful, organized, expendable factory where I can research huge upgrades in 2 minutes. I basically researched every single red+green thing and I now have to make the move to blue.

Where should I place my steel bar smelters? Left of the steel smelters would be great but then they'd have to make along trip all the way below steel and copper production to get to the south-east/east. I have lots of oil further south-east of the picture so obviously that's where most of the production will be. I'm just so happy with my current setup I'm scared I'll fuck it up.
