honestly the wormblaster build is pretty strong and pretty stupid. my friend built it and just farmed red maps 70-80 in one day, and after 80 farmed guardians. you get absolutely insane sustain from the constant health flask chugging. such crazy sustain that it makes it the best pvp build because you can face tank any other player's damage, and you get permanent immortal call.

the only saving grace is that the build is expensive as all hell with the league specific harvest and so doesn't really break anything.

this is false. in that webm I used the risen blood prophecy. there is a bug that makes the blood elemental that spawns from the prophecy drop whatever essence it is if you proc it off the essence mob. this can happen multiple times per essence mob as long as you have multiple people in the group. it also works with multiple essences, so if you have 3 essences of X Y and Z you will get 1 each of X Y and Z PER risen blood proc.

the prophecy doesn't have a 100% chance to proc, but it happens more often than not. I invited (trusted) friends and gave them risen blood prophecies that i had saved and I got 4 deliriums from 1 mob.

it's absolutely mind boggling that seemingly nobody knows about this prophecy interaction, I know I'm not the only one to have discovered this because you can google it and find a reddit post and bug reports.

What you're more or less subtly trying to advocate for, as I'm interpreting, is LINEAR progression which is the antithesis of game design that should encourage players to play for a long time, then reroll, then do it again, and again. Perhaps one day you'll understand what makes PoE different from D3, why people play one for years and the other for 1 week.

Well. People get attached to their characters. I'm not insisting there's endgame. But most ARPG's that aren't roguelites (like the /agdg/ project http://vagantegame.com/ which I really like) really do push an endgame like concept or have to simply because of the players within the genre.

A game like Borderlands doesn't really push an endgame. In fact it's rather poor at doing endgame. But it doesn't particularly feature super attractive ARPG systems. It's more of a new take on a FPS campaign. And while I liked the game the first time and maybe a second playthrough it doesn't have longevity because of its limited scope. The characters are set, you can't really 'build' them. There's not even the shallow level of customization set items offer. So it's a game that just offers you number_of_unique_characters*time_per_character playtime. PoE adds tons of more factors to that equation. Roguelikes tend to make the experience develop throughout the game. Even if you tried ot make the same build you can't because of RNG.

A game without endgame is really just a game where you've made the player stop playing before they're ready to stop. I've never 'completed' PoE. I haven't reached 100 and done all the content on HC. Most of the characters would just grow boring if I tried for that. But the opposite is equally bad.
I wouldn't want to grind maps 1-7 and then be done at tier 8. I wanna try the build against some hard content.

I agree PoE's early-midgame isn't great though.

So, I just started playing this game. I've spotted a nice build that does not require too many expensive items. However, some are really nice, and would cost around 1 Exalted Orb in total or so. Now, how am I meant to get that as a beginner? I've read one is equivalent to around 50 Chaos Orbs but that does not help much since I also don't know what to farm for those. Another option is to start on Essence League since it seems to make leveling easy but I'd hate to lose my very first character after a couple of months when the league is done for.

So, what am I meant to do? Essence League to learn the ropes and an easier leveling experience, or standard and try to farm for these currencies later on? If the last, how early can I start looking for currency?

The league ends in like a month so if you're a new player make a standard character so you don't lose it before you get anywhere.

Once you get to act 3 merciless you can just farm dried lakes forever or do maps for items/currency that you can sell. Just so you know an Ex is kind of hard to get unless you're lucky. For someone new to the game you're looking at a 30+ hour investment assuming you don't fuck your character up and have to start over.

15k ES character isn't Juggernaut, Juggernaut will never slow down and Death's Door is pretty much Skyforth for Life based characters. Yes as you said traps will do less damage but I'm more concerned by Uber Izaro where even in vids of life characters doing him they still get nuked to like 1k life and pop Immortal Call, while most ES builds can just leech back up or take two of those serious hits.

I have both a ES blade vortex character and an endurance charge-based juggernaut character. And I use the blade vortex character to farm labs with. Not being able to immediately get max endurance charges on juggernaut anymore really really hurt their survivability.

Blade vortex can do any combo of Izaro mods so long as you don't add in +crit darkshrines or whatever as well since that lets Izaro potentially do over 15k damage in one slam/cleave. Juggernaut + Marohi EQ can do non-elemental Izaros, but you will get chunked if you get hit before you get endurance charges up and you might as well be chieftain for easier Izaro kills.

If you want to make a character purely to farm uber lab you should literally just make a BV pathfinder.

Second, it locks characters into one-dimensional builds, disregarding that you may want to switch to a vastly different set of defenses/attributes/build later on, e.g. leveling as life/hybrid to switch to CI.
