Honestly I was expecting the traitor to be forgeven and rejoin before the game came out. Which might sound unreasoable but maybe Tales of games have just lightened me to betrayal because there's been a traitor in almost every game since the 2nd and with the exception of the very first one they've always ended up coming back, or at least you have the option to bring them back. With one of the most recent ones Xillia, having the same guy betray you and come back so many times in one game it seems like it's paraodying itself after awhile.

Because they put no fucking effort into it. You know why those phrases work better in Japanese? Because it's a totally different language. Bringing them over to English with absolutely zero changes gives you stilted and awkward sentences that read like an autistic kid's rambling. MGS4 is one of the best examples of this, the script in Japanese is fairly normal, there's nothing really exceptional about it, but the English localization is a effortless direct translation and it's an infamous pile of shit, characters talk in abstract concepts, sayings and riddles 10 times more than previous games that had more effort put into it.

It's not quite like the press turn system, but it's still pretty solid

It will ultimately depend on your preference regarding dungeon crawling/joker's day routine. Press turns and managing/fusing a shitton of demons for large dungeons in nocturne was godly for me. Here, you just manage personas for your MC and the rest is leveling shit with set skills for your partners (plus their social link benefits)

I mean there's stuff like Baton Touch (pass up your one more turn to another character while powering them up) and the ability to switch party members aside from MC mid battle, you can add status effects that cause extra damage when hit by a certain element and it flows alot better, but otherwise it's basically just 3 and 4's battle system, albeit much more defined.

Random battles aren't really any more strategic though.

Except on critical mode which nerfs player damage except for criticals and technical hits which are boosted greatly which makes the aim of the game there to score as many of those as you can.
