I rom edited my game back a few years ago to get some non-orderable items and slightly edited the layout of my town. Is it safe to upgrade? My 3DS doesn't have custom firmware if that can affect anything.

I have a few questions.

I'm kinda looking to restart my town just so I can have a fresh start, knowing very well how much I'm going to lose. However, I'd like to know a few things:

- Is it possible to retain your current character, or are they going to have to be new as well?
- Can you keep the current status of your market street, or will they have to be re-unlocked as well, including museum status?
- Are you able to turn back and keep your town if you get a value from Nook you don't like?

Debating the restart, and it's a tough decision.

Update launched this morning, you can download it in the shop now.
Short version: NL has amiibo support. You can have villagers camp out at the RV campground, buy their furniture, or have them move in. amiibo support includes Splatoon and Legend of Zelda. You buy amiibo furniture using coupons earned from doing daily and weekly tasks. You can buy additional storage for your home and move things around like in HHD. You can link your HHD save to NL and get special giant furniture. You now have the option of resetting your game with a pile of extra cash by "selling" it to Tom Nook, who evaluates the overall quality and value of everything you've done and then puts a price tag on it (if it's worth little to nothing, he won't buy). There's a new series of amiibo cards with 50 returning villagers.

How do I sell my town?

I don't know if anyone's posted this yet, but I just went through the process of rebuilding my town and figured I should share some of the stuff I learned from the new system.

1. You have to tell Isabelle you're certain you want to rebuild the town before Nook will pop up.

2. After Nook appraises your town and tells you how much you'll get for it, you have a change to back out and keep your town.

3. You have the choice of keeping your catalog so that you can re-order the items you lost. You can also sell your catalog for extra money if you want to start completely fresh.

4. You can choose to get the money in one lump sum or get it in payments. You'll get one payment a day over the next 100 days. In exchange for not getting all the money at once, you'll end up getting 10% more for your town than Nook offered in the first place.

You access them through in-game furniture items of the 3DS and Wii U respectively, like the NES games in the original AC on Gamecube. You get the items this time either through fortune cookies at Nook's shop, or by scanning an AC amiibo figure.
