Technically, the game doesn't even have the means to detect how you acquired that item - at least when you do it offline.

Even item swapping +2 rings on NG, and covenant items without having ever ranked up is completely safe.

Don't touch the soul count of your character, and don't increase/decrease stats beyond your SL and character, and don't run scripts while you're online, and nothing will happen.

I draw a line. I can only cheat in equipment I have managed to acquire while being at the same or lower powerlevel character (judged by SL/SM/SL+WM). If I manage for example to legitimately get the ng++ rings on an sl1+2 char, I can cheat in any equipment I want for any build. If I have only managed to get all the rings at sl50+7, I can only cheat them in for characters sl50+7 and above.
And obviously never cheat for pve, only if I want to head straight on the pvp

I just beat the game as a low level by running past shit and summoning phantoms to help with latter bosses, then had some /dsg/ anons drop me some shit I needed like seigbraus and +2/+3 rings. Offhand crossbow is generally the way to go. Arbalest does the most damage, Knight's Crossbow with Lightning Bolts is the 2nd best if the weight is really an issue. Having something to potentially run them down with like a spear or washing pole or other katana is also helpful in the main hand.

To be fair, I'm a dirty spear-using shieldslut and if it's literally just a pure pyro I can block the shit out of them and run them down because BK Shield also happens to have exceptional fire resistance specifically.

I use the crossbow mainly for the witch's locks fags, but those people are also generally pyrofags so it's all the same to me. Offhand xbow helps in both situations, though it's not always necessary.
