Sumer cheats on it in a rather twisted way. With most civs you are balancing early game production between scouts, military, builders and buildings(monument). For sumer its just bulilders and war carts. Getting goody huts bonuses means you will get a lot of free shit early on allowing you to bypass a lot of early game head aches.

I wish there was more strategies games with skeletons.
Even Age of Wonders relies too much on ghouls, and Disciples has plenty of cool stuff (banshees, psychopompe) but not skellington construct.

Skeletons are better. They don't need food or supplies of any kind, never question order, can run for hours without getting tired, and theorically speaking, can be faster than lightning.

You know how HOI4 has faces of Hitler and his clique censored in Germany? There technically isn't a law on the books to force that. But because PDX doen't want to deal with German legal system or delay release, they censor themselves to avoid problems. Well it's the same here. I suspect local companies are more willing to deal with the bureaucracy because they know it better.

Could be the companies just faced a lot more stringent reps who blew whatever excuses they could out of proportion to inconvenience foreigners. The Magic article is a over a decade older than the techinasia one, and WoW came out almost a full decade before.

Even if there was no real law or taboo prohibiting it back then, they may have given them hard enough time to want to bypass whatever headache there was present that's no longer as much of a problem for them.
>>
They should make deserts useful somehow imo. You see, even though this desert is full of oases I can't settle there

About how many turns does it generally take to make a military unit in Civ 6?

I remember trying to play Civ 5, it took several turns to make anything. Because of all the other things I needed to make and seemed to be more helpful to make first, the only games where I ever had an army were when I was playing as Germany and didn't have to make it.

>>158965107
>>158965485
in the case of china, from what I understand, you need to basically have a separate company to deal through. So this company might get shit from people if they put out things like skeletons. Now, you can deal with that, eventually, but it takes a lot of time, so they don't really bother with it, and just censor it to save time. It's easier to just trace over some magic art, rather than hire all these people to diffuse the situation. Same thing applies with germany and hitler. There are no official laws, but a lot of people don't like it, and will get on your case about it.

The real answer, which I am loathe to say for fear of fucking things up, is that the better posters of /gsg/ all left and resurrected /civ4xg/ to tralk about Stellaris after the Great Liquor Spergout. The that was followed by HoI 4 release. So all the decent posters are here, talking about Stellaris and getting into Civ 6. Meanwhile, they are still mired in Vick vs EU 4 mana wars(see their thread now for an example).
Also, there's a dedicated troll nest that does nothing but plague them. Perhaps several troll nests.

It really isn't when you get used to it's bullshit. There are a few people with seemingly near infinite time free time on their hands who spend it trolling GSG. Sometime the general descends into shitposting, but most of the time you can have a productive discussion on multiple subjects wit individuals in it. The reasons are many among them:
>people getting tired of this shit and leaving the general for reddit/forums
>people getting tired of paradox's shit and leaving for different genres/hobbies
>/his/ getting created, draining historyfags who enjoy these games as alt history simulators rather than simply games
>the fact that jannies mods are so tired of /gsg/'s shit they seem to ignore it half the time
etc

/gsg/ is bad because a shadow of its once-glory can be seen beneath the rubble. /sc2/ is like a sewer main and /kspg/ aka cat dick is an african mud hut with niggers and pajeets working to fill it with shit, but /grandshitpostinggeneral/ is like Rome (/gsg/) getting sacked by Vandals (Steamgroup) and getting smeared in shit by Flavius (R&I).

Sometime the general descends into shitposting, but most of the time you can have a productive discussion on multiple subjects wit individuals in it. The reasons are many among them:
I think I agree mostly with this.
I've seen /gsg/ as a total shitshow before and thought of it as the worst general, but as with most threads and most boards you can ignore the bullshit.
It has enough traffic that if you have a genuine discussion and just ignore the shitposters who have infinite time, you can discuss your topic with the other two sane people who are present at the moment.

Start up a new game of Stellaris.

Go for a spiral (4 arm galaxy). have the entire arm to myself.

Discover, with in my immediate borders a GOD DAMNED RING WORLD!

The next 300 years are dedicated to over coming the defenses of said ring world and to take it for my own.

... ... ... ...

All of it's sections are populated by a Bronze Age, an Iron Age, a Steam Age, and an Atomic Age primitive civ.

Anyone here play Civ like they're NTR? I setup a game with only 3 civs: myself, Gilgamesh, and Cleo. I build up my capital a little bit and then setup an auto-hotkey script to click next turn endlessly. I then leave my room and sit outside it for a few hours while the game plays. If I come back into the room and the game is still going I mumble a few apologies and excuse myself again. I've thought about knocking on the door before I enter but I don't want the noise to potentially disturb them. A few times my mom has asked why I sit outside the door of my room and I tell her each time "It's my new meta" (she has no idea what that means).

theres no reason not to spam cities in civ 6 industrial aoe production is too strong + easy to fix the "problem" of amnesties when your cities are so close together with entertainment district

The culture tree is balanced well but the problem with it is that most things you research are only stepping stones, they don't provide anything useful and you can just ignore them. There are only a few "key" civics that actually make a big difference, like fuedalism, civic engineering, and neighborhoods. Otherwise you get a couple of culture buildings here and there

I kind of want to roleplay as a faction of humans that was long ago splintered off from Earth due to an accidental ship crash of a colony pod in a distant, lush alien world. Most of the adults were killed and the ship's comms are damaged, while the module with hyper-sleep kids survived, along with the ship's AI - so that the AI and the adults manage to, over the course of centuries, build a society on this planet - a very scientifically inclined one, learning from the AI what they can and thirsting for new knowledge.

I was thinking maybe Intelligent, Natural Engineers, but also Weak for traits. Would Weak really screw me over? Is there another negative trait that you'd rather take if you were roleplaying along these lines?

Does the "Weak" trait in Stellaris put you in too large of a disadvantage if I want to go as a very Science-oriented race, or is it okay? Should I maybe pick Solitary or Sedentary instead of Weak as a negative?
>>
>>158977307
Not really. It puts you at advantage if you are a warring state though. Weaker armies can just be replaced by droids fairly quickly (especially as a science race) but the -5% minerals hurts a bit.
>>

Wiz, project lead of stellaris, more or less admitted that armies are useless shit and that they aim to remove them. They even accidentally removed Bug event armies from 1.3. So yeah, you can safely take it.

I'm not him but England isn't that good probably average at best not even close to Scythia/Germany level

best part of them is the unique district which is basically a free trade route, no other civ gets a unique harbor or commercial hub so England can get the highest amount of trade routes easiest, problem is settling 3 tiles within a lake or coast

Redcoats are pretty strong but they're not cavalry units which are god tier in this game

British museum seems good but not as good as other civ culture bonuses, I feel like the archaeologists should be cheaper for England you can build two instead of one in each city but they production cost is so high I rather just have 1 getting all 6 artifacts instead.

That way you get to have decently built planets and not worry about shitty sector AI. I don't really think more core planets is a useful buff at all, really.

splitting the tech tree into techs and civics was a mstake

in previous games researching a tech felt like an achievement each time, and a large number of techs unlocked something that you were looking forward to

So I don't get why people say it's difficult to settle middle to late game when you can just use trade routes to bring hammers and food to your new city. In a few turns you have a 10 population city and with an army of workers you bring from your other cities you make an industrial district with good output and you are set for production. You can keep pumping workers if you want it quicker. Rome is best for this since it automatically creates a road to your capital and gives you bonus gold from trade routes.
>>
>>158989090
this. you really gotta go easy on the cites and stay close together in this one.
>>
>>158989090
Or you can capture a city and get all its districts almost instantly.
>>
>>158989090
Districts takes longer in later eras. It's not impossible to settle a city, but developing it is a chore, unless it's in range of your factory farm.

If it is - I gotta ask you why the hell it isn't settled already?.
>>
>>158989147
I've learned in my playthroughs that going wide is a mistake
I can usually win now by building a hexagon of cities around my capital and rushing coliseum/industrial districts. Maybe an extra city if you need strategic resources, though becoming suzerain for em is pretty easy. Trade routes, adjacency bonuses, and factory/power plants take care of the rest, you don't even have to think anymore.
A hexagonal impenetrable fortress of hammers, easy to defend militarily and religiously.
>>
>>158989820
so a star fort

>>158990221

heh paradox has done it again

2 out of 3 endgame crisis are non functional

The Prethoryn Scourge has no way to replenish its armies and thus, when it runs out of them due to invasions gone wrong or simply because they got intercepted in space they can no longer expand what so ever and their fleets will be stuck permanently bombing a planet waiting for troops that'll never arrive. And even if you mod a way for the to gain armies (as I did) you find out that the ending to the crisis is bugged preventing it from properly finishing and as a result the entire galaxy stays permanently in "scourge threat" mode.

And the Unbidden AI is beyond shit: their ships never venture beyond their borders, and while they can expand their influence with military stations, influence cannot fully overcome the influence generated by inhabited planets which means that
1 your planets are 100% safe from the unbidden
2 eventually they'll hit a limit to their expansion when to many planets block their border growth

at this point you can just safely ignore them and have the rest of the galaxy periodically send its ships in to get obliterated

here's hoping for a patch soon, but probably not

How's this look?

Basically made to be spreading space cancer, possibly for MP games.

Spread across planets quickly, government grants me an extra large ship for every new leader and they should die more often than most so I get a new bigger ship each time.
Repugnant doesn't matter if I'm enslaving everyone.

the XL ships sadly matter very little beyond early game

Will heavily focus on laser weapons. I made another Human race with democracy system as the Free Alliance. Added a bunch of alien races: Ancient tech guys, ants hivemind, bighead human-like as military dictatorship and some seal guys in technocracy. Pirate set on low and no respawn.

Plan to ally the other democratic human and destroy (maybe) all others. Then

Pacifist just makes you a fed builder instead of an empire builder. It's plenty competitive if there are AIs to diplo with. Otherwise you are gonna have to fall back of uplifting and protecting.
I've only played mp a couple times and both times the game boiled down to gang ups , just like any paradox multiplayer.

ship cost and naval capacity are fantastic for rapid expansion, its probably the best militaristic government

just saying the flagships are a fairly weak aspect

that said there's the option to get a true flagship outside of that government: if you ever find the "automated dreadnought" boss creature you can repair it after defeating it at which point you'll gain a 10k+ hull size ship with 4x bonus to both shields and weapon damage
>>

No.

For some fucking reason the devs thought this feature in civ 5 wasn't worth it to bring back in civ 6.
>>
>>158998509
do we have any idea at what rate borders grow or where the next tile will be? thats what civ v showed right? even then i could never figure out why i was about to get a certain tile and not others. and how the fuck does it decide what tiles i can buy? sometimes you can buy a luxury/resource tile and other times you can buy all the tiles around it but not that one.
>>
>>158998345
Haven't played in a long while - I am either misremembering or they changed it from army bonuses. Flagships really good for wars, it's great for swinging balance of power with no investment. This might sound minor, but all the way through early to midgame, it really can change the course of battle. Lategame it's meh, but it's still a buff bastard you aren't losing much on.

Douglas was still a pretty recent settlement, and I hadn't had the time to properly garrison it. Moreover, Carthage had a city right next to my borders, and I had assumed there attack would be focused up there (I wasn't totally wrong - their Eastern fleet sailed down from Makassar to attack Douglas.)

Also, Carthage alone didn't just attack me - it was a joint declaration along with China, so I had to tie up some resources in defending against them as well.

How does Scythia healing on kills make sense thematically even?
With the Aztec jaguar it made sense since the jaguars were all into that ritual sacrifice shit and the defeated enemies could have been sacrificed which would bolster the ranks of the Jaguar. Hey guys, Stellaris newbie here. First time playing. Been following the tutorial for a while now.

I had a question - why is it that I cannot establish communication with these folks (option is red - we have not yet established communications), but the option for other Medieval civilizaiton I found is white saying "This civ is incapable of participating in diplomacy?"

What tech do I have to research to contact them the first guys? No special project has come up or anything. Do I have to just build an observation post and wait?

Also, how am I doing right now for the date, resource wise? Loving the game, to be honest.

well its pretty understandable why primitive people came up with things like gods, spirits, and creation myths. It was a way to try to make sense of the world they lived in.

Look at the concept of heaven and hell. There's no objective reason to believe these things exist, but people do because if they believe there's an afterlife then this life being so shit isn't as big of a deal anymore.

Nukes are the real science victory of the game. If you reach nuclear fission first, you basically just win. You can take out almost any neighboring civ in a few turns and any civs across the sea in a few more. The range and damage is legitimately insane.

Nukes in civ 5 were hot garbage, on a scale of 1-10 in terms of effective combat, they were like a 4 when you could just build an army and sack civs in a row. So now with another mod that introduces extremely high end stuff that can be researched, does something like this start amounting to space torture? Now everything that gets trapped dies very, very slowly and they can't escape.

It would be cool if there was some sort of heresy system in the game. Like, if you didn't found a religion and got converted by someone else you'd be able to buy a Great Heretic for huge amounts of faith, change one of the follower beliefs and roll with your new religion like it's yours for the purposes of religious victory. It would be 50% easier for the original religion to convert you back and the same for your conversions of them, to balance it out. Also you wouldn't be able to start heresies before all Great Prophets get claimed.

are continents just two large landmasses stretching from north to south pole?
>>

they really need to bring back buildings like stables, stone works, mint, and forge
>>

galaxy editions came with the first 4 dlc, nova came out with just the soundtrack or some bullshit.
>>
>>159031570
Yeah two continents and often a medium sized island in the ocean between them.
>>
>>159031570
generally yes. if you're lucky you might get a couple 3-tile island
>>
>>159031583
They really need to make tile features change the base yield instead of adding to it. Having 3 food 2 hammer hill bananas to work on turn 1 is almost twice as good as having a shitty plains wheat for 2 food 1 hammer.
How the map script works fucks it over too. If you have "balanced" starts it tries to give everyone the same amount of similar resources. So it views the jungle hill bananas and the plains wheat as the same because they both provide +1 food.
>>

Horses historically were used as plough animals though and are compareable im strength to oxen.
Also, horse meat.
>>
>>159031563
I imagined the number of heresies being limited by the number of people who can't start a religion any more. So if you are playing on a small map there are 4 possible religions and 2 possible heresies. I think it would be somewhat balanced if heresies counted for 25% of the original's religion when it comes to religious victories.

Yeah that would great.
Wanted something like that for civ5.

Just play it with bugs and fixed and abuse the AI while complaining about all these things lad, this is what the rest of us do
>>
>>
>>159032936
I meant bugs and glitches*
>>
>>159032936

But I don't wanna. ;_;
I heard the AI is literally retarded, even worse than V and diplomacy is fucked.

Fuck, I might actually play V while waiting.
>>
>>159002317
Nice hansa spot there between tobacco and wheat, then commercial towards the delta, harbor between fish and whales and then a sea wonder close to whales, probably culture district close to that wonder on the other side of the delta then... Pretty optimal city spot for germany there...

And the other city would have the hansa on the woods south of wheat, adjacent to aachens commercial district as well.
>>
>>159033054
The problem with the AI is that there's no clear progression in the build order. and you can quite easily run out of buildings if you don't build districts but the districts have monumental costs because the district cost is fucking random and the AI really really really really really likes opening with 8 warriors and attacking a city state for some reason.
The problem with the diplomacy is that peoples agendas don't scale as the game progresses and Mvemba will immediately fucking hate you if you don't spawn a missionary on the turn you found the religion then teleport it across the map and convert him on the same turn. There's also some thing with a joint war and then the ally who joint wars with you hates you for war mongering for declaring the war.

There's also huge fucking balance issues which is the main thing, and the tech tree feels like it's missing so many things.
>>
>>159002317
>>159033216
So I'd settle NE of tobacco, and between stone and wheat. Then a city north, maybe east of the cows, having its hansa just north of that tobacco
>>
>>159033243
Got the problem with the joint war where I have Brazil agreed to join war with me against Spain, and the very same turn, Brazil turned and attacked my units instead of Spanish ones.

That, and other AI oddities and bugs, need to be squashed immediately, as that is severely hampering the fun factor of this game. You can't play an FPS when the ally AI decides to kill you , can you?
>>
>>159033054
It needs huge fixing, yeah.
The thing is that they have agendas (for exemple Cleopatra will have a huge army and will like people with one), but their existence is based around that, and you can't please everyone at the same time.

So if you don't have 10 units when you discover Cleopatra, she'll hate you because you're week. (it's based on the amount of units you have, so even if you have three jets and she have 10 archers, she'll think she have a better army than yours)
If you don't spread you're religion to the lil' Kongo nigga the turn you founded it he'll hate you.
If you have relations with City states, the German dude will hate you, even if the city state is around the world.
Et cetera.

How can fucking critics just ignore all this vital stuff that's currently wrong.
>>
>>159034508
Even then work ethic is pretty good. Pick it every time if you have no intention of putting holy sites in most of your cities. Japan still has to obey the population limits for holy sites so building lots of useless holy districts doesn't look like a great idea even for them. Maybe if you are going for a theocracy faith-purchasing strats.

And people say civ 6 is ugly.
>>
>>159034768
Cathedrals are only useful with Russia and even then they are kinda shite because they can only house one type of great works (religious) and don't get any theming bonuses. Religious buildings are worse overall in 6 because you have to build a holy site AND a temple before getting them. If you are going for Theocracy strats I'd say take Synagogues because they give lots of faith and faith is what you use for faithpurchasing.
>>
>>159035092
It looks especially beautiful during nights
>>
When founding new cities in mid game on a new continent or something what do you even do with them? Districts cost absurd amount of production
>>
>>159035092

>Hiding resources gain so people can't see how you've cheated the AI out of all their gold.
>>
>>159035304
When I settle a city like that it's usually for a strat resource or a national park, so as long as they do that I don't give a shit what happens there, the core of my cities is all established in the early game. Maybe I buy a granary or a water mill if I'm feeling generous.
>>
>>159035304
Builder so I can build districts faster by chopping
>>
>>159035304

You send as many trade routes as you can To the new city and send it to whichever cities give you the most food and hammers. You also bring 2 or 3 workers to improve nearby mines, chop woods or farm stone. First district should be industrial to help everything be setup quicker. Then you keep developing until the city is self sustainable in food and housing. Then you start building other districts.
>>
>>159035092

trade route doesn't reach from 1 continent to the other

pretty shit sea trade routes are so small compared to civ 5 it seems
>>
>>159035971
It does, I have done it before
>>
>>159035971
I had no trouble sending trade routes to coastal cities to another continent, but my home continent was completely under my control with a bunch of suzerained city states that the trade routes passed through on their way to a coastal city.
>>
>>159035092
>>159035092
That pic looks pretty bad.
>>
>>159035092
>that road that goes directly into the sea instead of connecting to the encampment
>>
>>159035971

iirc, harbors and its buildings improve this but I'm not sure.

In case that doesn't work too then you are kinda fucked cause then your city will take a fuckton of time to grow in population. There should be a tooltip that warns you about not being in range of trade routes and which cities would reach a trade route starting from the new city. Ideally, you should be able to reach your most developed cities since the amount of hammers and food (as well as faith, science and culture) the trade route generates depend on the amount of said resources generate the target city of the trade route.
