Because as a whole, it hurts the game. I'll give you an example, Queens Blade, now battle books are pretty fun to play, but if you ask the average QB fan what a battle book was, they wouldn't be able to tell you. The anime has vastly overshadowed the game, leaving the game and solid core mechanics of it in the dust, and the series as a whole just about biganime tiddeeees. Same way with how they're many waifufags in BB who don't even play the games.

I'm just saying, if you were to ask a person about BB would you rather them say "Oh you mean that thing with the half naked squirrel chick" or "Oh you mean that fighting game?"

I'm talking about in terms of themes and designs. People who buy the games very much do not mind and likely even prefer fanservice. Removing or neglecting such things just to make it "have some integrity" wouldn't benefit them in any way.

Giving the game a slightly better image to the public doesn't mean anything when the things you're toning down are still there. All it means is that you're half-assing aspects of the game which actually makes it sell just to please people who don't buy it in the first place.

They are part of the targetted audience, but I'm pretty sure the fact that they have a fuckton of merchandising for the female characters, and a massive focus on story to the point where a large part of the resources go into it should clue you in on what type of audience BlazBlue has.

Competing in arcades and liking fanservice and stuff are not exclusive in the slightest, in fact some of the biggest arcades are located in Akihabara and other districts which have such culture surrounding them. Hell, if you want a more direct example, Zexo, the top Azrael in the arcades, talked about how his room was filled with Mai merch and posters.

Whether you like it or not, fanservice is a major selling point, hence why they keep designing characters that have major appeal in that area. They're not doing it to spite their playerbase, because their playerbase consists specifically of that.

Fanservice is important to fighting games because it makes money. It works. It's why people still give a shit about Darkstalkers. Fanservice isn't just a Blazblue thing, its literally in every fighting game with a female.

Also why do you care about dignity from video games. In general, video games tend to have really trashy character designs. I think part of the issue is that CT/CS were going for an "anime meets orchestra metal" feel because Guilty Gear was so stagnant and ASW wanted to reinvent it while they had the chance.

After CS, ASW knew it would be able to start working on Guilty Gear, and at that point were mostly certain that console players were a fringe market and that arcades are dead in the west. The remixes, menus, and aesthetic starting with CP seem to just be an attempt to distance it from Guilty Gear and remove anything that wasn't focused on Japanese arcades.

Western gaming culture is pretty stupid in some ways. There a hundredfold more smash players that repeatedly try to hammer a square peg into a round hole desperately trying to find the next "wavedashing" in new smash games rather than pick up literally any game that actually has technical elements built in. It's not like it's any easier to do advanced techs than it is to press a, b, c ,d.

Because the protagonist/good guys aren't all that likable. People latch on naturally to villains and in the case that the main crew is extremely flawed, the villain crew seem a lot more interesting when they make the main crew suffer for their blatant idiocy.

Counterpoint: Hazama and Relius are popular because they made a great entrance into the series.

CT didn't really have a villain. It was more of a tragedy story where everybody is suffering due to circumstances more than any genuine malice. Even the antagonists are mostly just acting out of a combination of mental breakdowns and unfortunate events. Continuum Shift needed a villain and Hazama nailed it. The tone shift made Hazama out to be a massive troll, and the tone shift he brought to the series worked fairly well.

I consider Ragna to be a very rare example of an edgy character done right. Ragna still acts like a human being with highs and lows. He's likable because he has enough personality to let you almost forget for a minute just how fucked he is in every way.

The workplace is unique because (1) you are expected to actually work professionally with the people around you, (2) everything that happens in the workplace affects the person's living and the company's output, and (3) you can't leave or choose not to work with them. Continued glaring might be considered abuse / bullying if the students are put in the same class and room all the time and forced to work together, but this wouldn't apply to open-environment areas unless it's coupled with active harassment like, say, making hand gestures to harm them or verbal abuse.

Jin and Noel aren't in the same class, and the only reason they ever come in contact with one another is through Tsubaki. Jin never makes any other threatening gestures that indicate he would harm her. The most that the group could ever conclude was that Jin didn't like her.

We're in agreement that it's obviously not a smart or nice thing to do by any means, but if you want to peg that as bullying, then what you're saying that any passive action like rolling eyes at someone or ignoring them is "bullying." If Noel started shooting at him, that would be /her/ fault for initiating the active aggression. Maybe if someone actually asked Jin what's his problem and told him to stop glaring at Noel, they could've gotten to the bottom of it, but apparently the entire academy squad didn't think to do that.

By hostile environment I'm saying things such as "I think this person will assault me". If a guy is cursing in a room, and it's not directed at you, you might feel uncomfortable but you don't feel hostility. If a guy with a "face of a thug that nobody trusts" is there, and you honestly feel uncomfortable by it, you probably will just not look in his direction, but if you ended up doing and you say him staring -aggressively- at you, you would.

Say you were in school, and every day you walked to a class or whatever, this one guy would do nothing but stare at you with a face of "I'm gonna strangle you to death" you wouldn't be the least bit threatened by this action? And that's the difference, someone rolls their eyes at you, you don't feel threatened. Someone ignores you, you don't feel threatened. Someone staring at you aggressively, you feel threatened.
