Might as well post what they said about how they make maps for the hell of it.

>They generally have 4 maps being worked on at any one time, usually 2-3 maps and a small thing like Lucioball, typically 2 maps being built and 2 in the art department. Maps start out as just greyscale boxes because they are putting effort into balancing it first "because you can't worry about which building will be a clock shop when you're worried about making the map work". Aaron and another guy are responsible for map creation. They typically prefer a 3 part map, each part being a little different/emphasizing different heroes, and they like the "start with a choke" format. Once the map is balanced, it goes to an artist team of 8 who add textures.

>Eichenwalde is the map they spent the most time on, and the reason it looks so amazing, is because previous maps they were in a rush to finish for launch. It was started back in January but they had to decide between whether to finish Einchenvalde and Route 66. Originally it had people starting in the Black Forest running around trees, but they always wanted a castle. The art team worked in tandem with "The First Bastion" animation team, and the two fed one another's creativity.

A couple chokepoints are designed real good. Gibraltar first underpass for example.

Hanamura Point A is the opposite of a good chokepoint.

I think more problems lie in misleading visuals and poorly done mechanics. Roadhog's hook looks and feels and acts like 100% bullshit. The absurd vertical height and rapid slowing rate of Mei's ult, where the slowing effect reduces turn speed, speed and thus distance of movement abilities like Winston's leap, and even falling speed(which literally doesn't make any kind of sense, you fall after you're frozen anyway). Junkrat's trap leaps out like a chain-chomp to snare people. Literally everything about Genji. Torbjorn is 40% head hitbox, Lucio is 5%. Various projectile hitbox sizes and speeds. And so on.
