Yeah, the new DLC has crow people: a minor NPC who's a Farron style Corvian, and a whole village of Corvians who're somewhere between Velka's crow minions in the original Painted World and deformed bird fetuses. But, Velka is never mentioned.

As for how it builds on the rest of the Painted World lore: Priscilla's corpse is in the room of the final boss. and her arena is in ruins at the bottom of a chasm. The idea of the Painted World being a thing where the gods put unwanted things has evolved over time, and the Painted World is now actually sought out by unwanted and homeless groups as a last refuge.

We learn a little bit more about Painted Worlds, too. It's not clear if the Painted World of Ariandel is the same as the Painted World of Ariamis. While the presence of Priscilla's arena, corpse and the rest of the similarities suggest it might be, it has a different painter (Ariandel), and we meet someone else who plans to paint their own world, so it might very well be a seperate one.

We literally will set in motion the events that become the current game and defeat the Dark Lord so that a Soul of Cinder may take it's place. Gundyr is Oceiros is the beginning is the end of the beginning.

SL45, catacombs and pre-pontiff irithyll atm. I really love doing catacombs invasions though, I like fighting alongside the skeletons and carthus guys and there are so many subtleties to the map if you take some time to get a lay of the land. Lots of fun booby traps and environmental hazards. Literally killed a host who tried to run away across the bridge by chucking a spear, missing him but hitting the bridge so he fell to his death.

If you see someone named "Spear Chucker" especially if he's wearing rags and a Wolnir Crown it's probably me. I don't think anyone else is trying this sorta cosplay, at least. I try to mostly just use the javelin if I'm 1v1'ing but against groups or shieldfags I generally have to switch to the mail breaker, both raw +4. I also have caestus which I 2H sometimes, people don't expect it. In general though I make a huge effort, probably more than I should sometimes, to chuck as many spears as possible at people. I consider the mail breaker a shank and caestus are like street fighting so I think they fit too, plus they let me fastroll.

Either way is fine, if people 1v1 me FC-style I won't heal and won't run away, if you kill me you kill me. I spend all my souls before invading and have many backup saves so I have absolutely no problem dying.

Only time I get annoyed is if it's a gank PLUS seed, which is extremely rare mind you, but has happened to me once at least. I consider that a win if they have to do that against literally just me, though. Unfortunately it's not like pontiff, I rarely if ever get backup in the catacombs unfortunately. Not like I can wait around for team fights so it's pretty rough if I can't team up with mobs.

Have a main character, probably at SL120 or so, that you have 1+ slabs on and make a backup save. Then you can use any weapon you want.

After that I just make meme builds, usually to invade with a particular SL in mind that they'll stop at and an associated area. Builds that have one specific purpose.

In general backup saves are your friend, though.

Life Ring +3 is more of a big deal on low-level twinked characters where more life is really important. At 100+ people do so much damage that 150 probably isn't even 1 more hit. Whereas stamina is life for both shields and rolling and R1 spamming like all the cool kids do.

The shield is useless, and grass is nice and often used at the start of any duel/invasion but not necessary, chloranthy +2 is still great without it.

Anyone can test it themselves by throwing out some attacks and then noting the difference in stamina regen. It's definitely noticeable.

Depends what you want to do. I've found invasions to be much better at lower levels, I probably wouldn't go past 60-70 tbqh. I've found 45 to be fun as fuck, 99% of hosts don't seed so it feels like how I always thought invasions should be (host + phantoms trying to get through level to the boss, me + mobs trying to stop them).

SL120 is generally considered meta level for 1v1 pontiff duels (if those are even a thing anymore since arena became a thing). SL120-140 is good for invading pontiff as aldrich or with red eye orb. The area after pontiff because aldrich being able to invade evens the odds against ganks, I've done a ton of SL125 pontiff invasions. You put on the aldrich covenant and hit the red eye orb and whichever procs first you go with, then you wait for backup if the host has backup (so either 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3).

80 doesn't make sense to me, I'd either go around 55-65 with +5/+6 weapons for pre-pontiff, or go all the way up to meta level for post-pontiff/aldrich faithful invasions.

+2 boss/twink weapon is equivalent to +4 tittyknight weapons in terms of matchmaking rite?

I thought it was mostly a joke before but I'm really starting to like thinking of the javelin as a throwable str-scaling katana. The normal attacks are slower than other spears (though sometimes this is good since it fucks with parry timing), but the running attacks are still quick and have fine reach. The rolling 1HR1 is still good as the donk-on-the-head move.

You basically just running R1 people and chuck it at people. PROTIP: a good way to catch people is to rolling L2. If you roll around a bit and immediately chuck the spear while locked on upon wakeup from the roll, most people don't expect it. Also, as you'd expect, it's great for catching people trying to chug or great/ultra weapon guys trying to HA attack hoping you'll run into it and trade (even better with leo).

Just some advice in case anyone wants to try it out, it's very good for strength builds imo. Use it like a throwable katana. At higher levels I feel like it should be a good 2nd weapon, you can switch to it and throw or do some running R1's and then switch to your big weapon. Maybe even dual wield and 2H the javelin to throw it here and there, idk.

Mirrah Vest + Painting Guardian Hood is GOAT. Thorn Guantlets are the best thorn armor to use if you're gonna use it for tearsfags (least weight and subtle, goes with pretty much everything without being super obnoxious/edgy), Northern Trousers are underrated for pants. Probably not. They probably have a way over the mountain that got blocked by the lands shifting. The road into Irithyll is blocked by rubble if you take a left after the first bonfire. It was presumably open at one point, and either connected more directly to the road of sacrifice or Farron keep. The lands shifting might even be why they have such a huge amount of corpses, since they no longer have a clear path but continued to collect them
