The arena is pretty fun but I don't think it'll replace Pontiffs in the long run. Being unable to choose your fights is a major factor. I'm also tempted to say that it's less accessible than Pontiffs, seeing as you have to get into the DLC and then fight (what is in my opinion) a pretty poor boss in order to access it. Though, after thinking that I then realised that you can actually get the Champion's Bones after just 4 bosses as opposed to Pontiff's 6, and you're going to be about level 60 at the earliest to reach both. Not making Undead Match accessible right from the beginning, or from an item gained in an early game area like Farron Keep, was a silly mistake in my opinion.

The arena also seems to be quite glitchy. I'm getting a lot of invisible people.

Brawl and team game modes are fun though, and at least there's finally solid restrictions on estus beyond 'muh honour.'

I hope this doesn't result in a big split in the community. I haven't been to Pontiff's since the DLC dropped. How's activity there?

People with VAC bans were never barred from playing online in 2. In order to do that, the game would have to be able to access and use VAC data, which they can't without a license to use that proprietary software from steam. If they had, then steam wouldn't have made a public statement to the contrary

Bamco was working on getting the license to use VAC from steam prior to release. They jumped the gun and announced that the game would have VAC before the deal was finalized because they wanted to use that as part of DaS2's release promotion. The deal fell through and made them look like an ass. That's all.

I have a r9 280 wich is similar to that 760 and i get rock solid 60fps in 900p medium settings with depth of field and motion blur off and 55-60fps in 1080p with some 1 second long drops to 45fps in the more taxing areas when it needs to loads some assets.

Here's my highly subjectives thoughts on the DLC.

Things it did well:
>Painted World is one of the best areas in the whole game. Looks nice, massive, lots of shortcuts and interconnectivity, lots of little hidden niches. I was still discovering new small areas even after beating the final boss.
>Friede/Ariendel a very fun boss fight
>New weapons are creative and loads of fun
>New enemies are fun and nice to fight against
>Cool new armour sets
>Very good for materials: new enemies can be farmed for items that were hard to obtain before, and there's more slabs now!
>Pretty interesting new NPCs
>Cool new lore (a bit more on Farron, Millwood, everybody's favourite megalomaniacal sorcerer tyrant)
>Arena is fun
>Spells are kind of fun
>A new pyromancy flame finally holy shit!

Things it did badly:
>Only two bosses
>Gravetenders easily one of the worst bosses in the series: a buffed NPC, not even wearing a unique armour set, and a stage enemy with a few new moves (or the boss has been recycled as a stage enemy: either way, it's not great).
>Arena locked away behind Gravetenders
>Story disappointingly disconnected from the base game, wouldn't mind some slightly more clear connections to the first game's Painted World
>Story too vague and DLC too short to really get invested in it. Just kind of drops you in the middle things and barely makes things clear.
>Some mildly frustatingly vague/disconnected lore (what's the difference between screaming hollow corvians and cancer bird fetus corvians? What're the bug things and why exactly is the Painted World rotting away? Who's Sulyvahn's mama and papa?)
>Spells fun but a few more wouldn't have hurt, and two of the new spells just being another weapon enchant and cloud attack is a little underwhelming
>Honestly would have prefered two or three real good, two stage boss fights in place of 3-stage Friede and Ariendel, whose middle stage is absolute ass.

Whatever else /dsg/ thinks, I think that we can all agree that the Sable Church did NOTHING wrong
