Because Riot thinks mana costs and cooldowns are unfun. Champions circa 2009-2010 were balanced around those limitations. Abiliies scaled off of AP, autoattacks scaled off of AD. There was no hypercancer shit like Lee Sin where his ult has a 1.5AD ratio and everything does a billion damage, even his autoattacks. The first manaless champions were Garen and Kat, both with huge weaknesses - Garen had no CC and was kitable, Kat had shitty laning with no waveclear. Champions would have strong earlygames but no lategames (Leblanc), or vice versa.

Now, every champion has the same powercurve, every champion either has autoattacks that scale off AP, abilities that scale off AD, or no cooldowns at all. Everything is so fucking homogenous. Because of that, the meta is literally decided purely by which champions have the strongest numbers on their kits. It's not like DotA where you can have almost every champion picked/banned at TI. No, worlds has a 100% pick/ban on Nidalee because she's fucking busted.

I hope you like the last few remaining unique champions getting removed. Even Anivia got a minirework, which leaves I think just Shaco left of the "old guard". Even still, he's had plenty of nerfs over the years. I guess there's also Galio if you even remember him.

The DLC is what brought me back to dsg and since then not many people do fight clubs. The dlc added arenas and theyre really fun so FCs are kinda on the down atm.
Also to be fair one DLC cant fix the lack of replayability alone. Even Dark Souls 2 levels of content couldnt fix that. However, in my opinion the Single player linearity isnt that bad in Dark Souls 3 for the most part.

At the start of season 6 I trolled my placements and would just up and leave games when I would get upset. I was placed into bronze 3 and I stopped playing for a while. I cam back (about 6 weeks ago), switched roles and got serious about playing. I've managed to climb my way up to S5 and was in promos for S4 but ended up having an int feeder and an afk in one of my games so I tilted back to 0LP silver 5. I'm slowly working my way back up. My goal is to make gold next season. I got an unranked account that I got to do placements on to see where I should be. I ended up going 7/3 and got placed into S2, which is odd, but my MMR is such that I'm always in games with G4/5. Long as I don't tilt I can hold my own and usually win which gives me confidence that I can make gold on my main which has been every where from mid silver to bronze 5.
