I've manage to clock 13 hours into the game playing mainly Karin alongside some Ken and Ryu. Do you get character levels from single player content as well? These aren't as extreme most of the time, but I've beaten plenty of 50+.
I've been up against some Silver Players at around 2000LP who tends to break my win streak, but a few of them are equally bad as the rest. I guess since there are so many players, the lower tiers are pretty wide?

SFV is a better and more fun game than SF4 imo, but SF4 was definitely more fun to watch. SF4 got flak for being too defensive and SFV is getting a lot of flak for the comparatively short normals and up close game. I think SFV should have struck a balance between SF4 and what we ended up with as SFV. The game could have favored offense more than SF4, while keeping the zoning and longer range footsie game intact.

It was definitely a defensive game, it was a few characters that broke the norm by not playing like the rest of the cast. 50/50 situations meant that you could open up your opponent very efficiently in okizeme, but outside of a hard knockdown with a handful of characters; the offensive options for SF4 were weaker. There's a difference between going for a 50/50 on their wake up and the up close pressure/neutral game that SFV has, keep in mind that SFV damage is a lot higher on average so your reward for opening your opponent up is greater. SFV's throw game is also very strong compared to crouch tech fighter 4. If I put in 3 rushdown Guilty Gear characters into Samsho 5 and they make up the top 3, that does not make Samsho 5 an offensive game.

Exactly.
As with any other game, the majority of players fall into the lower percentile. This means that there are going to be a lot of bronze players. These players are in bronze because they are bad/new. Since there are no placement matches, you'll start in bronze as well and if you are better than the majority of bronze players you're going to move to a higher percentile fast. When you hit your de facto skill level, be it Silver/gold or whatever - your progress will come to a halt and you'll be forced to improve if you want to advance.

Thats because cheating in a shooter is really fucking easy technically speaking.

All a bot needs to do is zap very fast on the opponents head.
Also in most shooters its very hard to differentiate between an aimbot and a very strong player, so you can never be 100% sure.


Cheating in an RTS/Moba is way harder and more obvious too.
Ressource hacking? With the optimized timings e.g SC2 has people would notice way too fast.
Maphacking? That information is handled by a server and is very hard to manipulate for your client.
The only thing i could imagine would be a bot that auto follows a given build order perfectly, but since you need to adapt constantly and cant strictly follow the same build all the time that wouldnt work well either.

In a fighting game you cant really cheat either, sure you could use a script for combos, but that wont help you much if you are ass at the game.
Also there are most of the time way to many combo routes and specific combos for different situations, that you cant script all of them. And you still need to connect with the combo starter.

For a FG bot to do what you described it would have to execute the perfect response to every little movement its opponent makes because FG characters are wildly different from each other in terms of attacks, range and frame data.

If you can make a bot that advanced you'd be off making supercomputers for Google and not making video game bots.

All the current FG bots only excel when they have you in very predictable positions where your character has few options for it to react to.

Chess has way more variables than fighting games because every move up until that point in the game has more impact.

If you stand in front of Ryu while he has super and do something the least bit slow, then an AI can counter it for tons of damage, no matter where you are in the match.

The only behavioural difference between fighting game AI and a bot is that the AI isn't actually trying to win.

Not him, but the AI is made by the developer and can directly access everything from the source code and all the information happening in the game.

Someone making an external bot would have a way harder time getting that information and outputting the proper responses.
It could in theory do the same than the AI, but it would probably be a lot of work to make such a bot.

The board state in the middle and end of the game is more different than the middle of a fighting game match.

The only differences in a fighting game are things like meter (which are linear) and your positioning on screen (of which there are a lot of very commonly seen scenarios such as one person being in the corner). The beginning of the match changes these kinds of variables.

The beginning of a chess match changes entirely what tools you'll have available in the first place.

This means in fighting games, a bot has to know technical things (eg frame data) and a few mechanical things (eg inputs). Even if you wanted to teach it strategy, there isn't much to teach that its extreme reactions don't already cover. Chess is all planning and accounting for variables.
