Hmm, hard to say for sure. I would say generally power up near the beginning or middle of the level, so that you can play out a good chunk of it while powered up.

Another thing to note is that power up mode lasts longer the less you shoot. What I mean is, the counter in the corner counts down from 1000, but the speed at which it counts down depends on if you're shooting or not. While shooting, it drops faster than when you aren't shooting, so if there's nothing to shoot at, then stop shooting to keep your power up going for a little longer.

Not to the extent of the Volcano rocks, but there are some other places where it can be good. Like uh... it'd probably be a nice score boost to power up near the beginning-mid portions of the stage in Graveyard. Ideally you want to get to the house near the end of the stage with +10,000 on the overall counter so that you can really milk the reapers that fly out of the chimney for bonus points, and destroying the house itself will cause a lot of point items to fall out of it while you're in power up mode as well.

I also like having power up mode for the lowest part of Hades Castle. After you enter the castle and descend the stairs section, it enters a horizontal section with ogres and statues and falling chandeliers and all that. That place can drop some good points if you're in power up mode, especially all the eyeball enemies that come shortly after that part too.

unfortunately the trajectories are pretty random and everythings affected by what screen position the boss move to si it's probably the only part of the game i can't give you a solid strat for. Have you got the midboss strats until then sorted? ie pointblanking the top turret as he spawns and removing the parts to skip through the other ass attacks?

Sora improves upon alot of the regular Suguri mechanics and its generically alot more faster and has some pretty nice boss battles. The Extra stage in particular comes to mind.

Somewhere around here. You'll want to be at the very top of the screen, and in position a bit in front of him. Look at my replay on the Steam leaderboard to see it in action.

What you're looking to do is find the area that the vertical-traveling apples will not hit. The bullets Whispy fires are inconsequential if you're fast enough getting into the spot; they seem to be fired statically using your position as a base, meaning they'll always fire the same way as long as you're in the same place when he shoots. Therefore the bullets will always miss you, and your main concern will be finding the space between where the apples will travel.

But again, time is a factor so make your way to the safespot area ASAP when he explodes out of his first phase to be sure the bullets will behave when he starts firing them. Practice makes perfect.

What things do .5 damage and which do 1 in DS?

Bullets and suicide bullets do 1 damage. Damaging obstacles (such as Tyrannosatan's boxes, Whispy Woods's apples, the fire that rises in Volcano, colliding with enemies or bosses, etc) does .5 damage.

The only odd exception is the big, round shots that ogres on Hades Castle fire. The ones that spawn smaller bullets off of them as they travel. Those big round shots will do .5 damage if they hit you, though the smaller bullets that they spawn will do 1 damage if they hit you.

I don't think it's a bad game, but it failed to satisfy a defined niche or a considerable group by trying with a catch-all formula with a moderate mix of elements that either by themselves or together fail to make BR stand out compared to the other shmups available.

E.g.
It looks and plays too modern for retro players but not good enough in comparison to 10 year old shmups. It tried to appeal to weebs and waifufags by having cute girl MCs made by an artist that draws cheesecake and cute patreon bucks but it didn't show enough sexy or cute to keep them engaged, and it got shilled hard on the farm but it launched without leaderboards and replays, turning off competitive players and those aspiring to be, and to make things worse with DFK's launch just around the corner.
And thus things turned this way.
