Every single one of those either has massive physical burst on a single hit (evasion is useless if it hits once) or incredibly powerful elemental burst (evasion only applies to physical hits), and when you get the EHP to survive the survive-able bursts of those fights, there is very little ambient dps left that is realistically threatening to the character. No matter what, you'll need a fuckhuge life/ES pool to survive a bad Shaper+Friend beam long enough to get out of it.

If GGG designed fights to give enemies a lot of nearly-unavoidable dps that could be mitigated by evasion, then yeah, there would be fights where an evasion build would shine, but those don't exist.

There are many problems with ES right now. ES has many things that life just can't match right now. There is no Health version of Crystal Belt, Discipline, or the "Infused Shield" notable.

Even the Blood Magic keystone, which on a superficial level you would consider the life equivalent, is increased life instead of more.

The fact that Life builds have armor or evasion is a complete joke when you consider that the most dangerous things in this game are either elemental damage or telegraphed physical attacks.

Build a ton of either Energy Shield or Life on the passive tree (150% at minimum for life, 200% for ES). Every class has viable builds, most people play solo.

easiest class to pick up for your first character depends on what you want to kill shit with:

>physical weapon attacks: marauder or duelist
>elemental weapon attacks: templar
>spells: templar, witch, or shadow
>traps: shadow

tips: get a shitload of life on your tree, mainly look for life and resists on gear. you want to go up by about 1k life by the end of each difficulty. you don't actually need resists capped at any point before maps, but you definitely need some resists and getting capped will be the best way you reduce the difficulty of most tough bosses.

how do people with an AoE build like EQ use Ancestral Warchief for singletarget bosses?
Just tried it on a shaped T10 Mesa map and Oak killed that totem instantly.

I didn't say that, learn to read. ES gives a high buffer, which is fine if your build cannot leech (summoners, totems, DoT) as it gives you breathing room to survive burst damage. This is fine and working as intended.

For VP to be justifiable, you have to have overwhelming dps and leech to beat the regen + ~35% life/second leech a Slayer build can give you for example, which boils down to maybe 3-4 build prototypes (Harvest builds, BV Pathfinder with Vinktar, WI builds) which goes beyond the life vs CI argument:

Harvest builds /BV Pathfinders are helpless without their leech
WI is naturally a INT/CI build and would be stupid as a life build
