Emumand is a copy of your console to have it hacked. It occupies 1 GB if O3DS, and 2 if N3DS. A9lh removes the emunand and just leaves you with the original 3DS, but hacked, and it's pretty much retardproof.

The 3DS has a memory chip internally. It's known as the sysnand.
a9lh inserts a bit of code in the sysnand. It runs as soon as you turn the system on no matter what firmware is installed there. So you can update your console and still keep your hacks.
emunand is a copy of the sysnand stored on the emunand. You can update the emunand to whatever version you like. When you boot your console you must hack the sysnand and then switch to the updated emunand.

a9lh is faster, more reliable and generally better, but you have to downgrade the console to retrieve some special information necessary to install it for the first time.

There are plenty of DS games that stream data from the cart since its RAM is so tiny.

Also there's a lot of additional overhead on the ARM7 and shared RAM. And since the TWL memory map conflicts with the NTR one, that means the server is fighting with the game for memory.

Its going to be a glitchy unstable mess. Don't expect a Nintendont style miracle because that's just not how the 3DS is built.

I had a couple of old computers just collecting dust, so I used one for the mod and the other for the hard drive. I'll point out that the Dell I had did not work for the softmod itself, I'm guessing its BIOS didn't like the non-standard shit I was doing. The HP worked great though.

Oddly enough I can't get it to boot my SuperCard DSTwo.
It doesn't need the NTR Loader to boot it since it already works, but it means I can't get the DSi performance boost.

I've read the old guide but I dont think thats the newest way to do things.

Recently I bought an used old 3ds, it had 7.1.0, so I suppose it's not top, but it was good.
Now, I installed al9h and luma 3ds.
I've been playing a lot with it, almost one week, including sav editing from sd.

Now 3ds seems slower in initial menu (icons, don't know how it's called) and before, I turned it on and screen was black and I heard only sound. A few seconds later screen turned on and everything was fine.
Last thing I did is installing the cias for playing ds games from cartridge.

Is my 3ds breaking or I'm just paranoid?

For instance, I found a backup of my 3DS's files from something like a year or two ago, when ironhax downgrading was the big thing. I didn't make a backup of that SysNAND to restore to EmuNAND, I just started the EmuNAND fresh, meaning the saves I had from legit digital games were gone.

No, 3DS saves on the SD card are encrypted to the NAND they belong to.

If you still have that SysNAND image, and you have a way to boot up homebrew on that SysNAND, you can use JK's Save Manager to extra the save data you care about, which you can then use with any 3DS system or NAND you want. You can even more saves from digital games to physical game cards and vice versa if you care to.
