This was fixed in Civ V, ruins didn't give you tech beyond Ancient era. Why am I learning the secrets of satellite from villages in Civ VI now? Is it because of difficulty I'm playing on?
>>
>>158279397
Why is there no casus beli for declaring war on a civ that's attacking a city state that I'm suzurain of? Protectorate war CB unlocks at renaissance and it can only be used after the city state has already been captured. What sense does this make?

Compiled list of necessary changes for Civ6:
1.Add an option to remove autocycling (I know you can remove it by fiddling with the files, but it should be a basic feature in the game's interface)
2. Make barbs scale with player's tech - no more classical era horsemen raping everything while every player is in the ancient era
3. Bring back the movement system from 5. Current movement system makes any non-cavalry melee unit even more worthless than they were in 5 (and I didn't think that was even possible)
4. Heavily increase amounts of strategic resources on the map or remove resource requirements from the basic infantry line. Currently most civs use nothing but carpets of warriors for majority of the game because they don't have enough iron to upgrade them into swordsmen. Rome spams Legions instead (unique units don't require resources), but they still can't upgrade them into musketmen, which require niter. And AI can't really trade for these resources since absolutely everyone wants them and no one has enough of them.
5. Give actual notifications when a barb camp spawns instead of playing the sound and leaving the player to scour the fog of war for minutes trying to find the camp
6. Show what tile the city is growing borders towards and tell us how many turns it will take
7. Give notifications when cities grow so we can manage the citizens in time
8. Add a restart button and make the game save our settings, fiddling with them every time I want to restart a game gets tiring very fast.
I'm sure I forgot something, but that's all I remember so far.

3) Disable selling units outside your borders

4) Scale the selling price of builders based on uses left

>>
>>158280851
Inventory is basically the top bar, you'll see 1 green dildo, that's your nuke.

You can shoot them from either a Missile Silo you get in a completely unrelated tech that your Military Engineers needs to build as basically an improvement; or you can shoot it from late era units like the Nuclear Submarine and I think the Stealth Bomber?

pic related is my recent Nippon Nuke rush session, though obviously not much of a rush and pretty unpolished but god nukes are so satisfying in civ 6 especially compared to how much of a wet noodle they were in civ 5. Definitely recommend using the Nuclear Submarines to shoot em from the water.

Liking the look of this start. Really, really tempted to move one tile to the right so I can plant my campus on the banana hex to the left and get +6 science, but bananas are so valuable when I'm trying to avoid tearing down the rain forest. There's also also a great spot for an industrial zone between all those hills at the bottom, and a spot for a commercial district to the right next to the coast, and I haven't even begun thinking about theater and holy sites, which is probably what I should be prioritizing.

How the fuck are Woods/Rainforest/Marsh supposed to work with resources on the same tile? I think it's nice balance between tall and wide. Currently no one really knows how most optimal city layouts should look like so people from both camps whine that Firaxis butchered tall/wide. We'll have to wait for some time before we can actually say for sure how impactful that production scaling is.

Science is both fast and slow. The early game into mid game science is super fucking fast because you hit almost every boost. Then it slows down like a motherfucker because you can't produce shit to keep up with the tech. You basically hit none of your boosts in the late game.
>>
>>158281745

>>
>>158281914
You were playing Japan and there were other districts nearby maybe?
>>
>>158281643
Cost of districts go up with every district of that type built GLOBALLY. It's a possible bug.

Due to districts almost universally being better than cities, most OP civ for district spam is Aztecs. They can just crank the fuckers out with builders. Close second is Germany, as their stupid-high production keeps things cranking out smoothly.

You can have shitloads of cities with very few districts, or 2-4 cities with large amounts of districts. The most important thing is that you get your districts built ASAP and exploit chopping to get there.

Commercial gets a +2 bonus from being adjacent to at least one river segment, and another +2 bonus from being adjacent to a harbour. And the usual tiny bonus for being next to districts in general.

Settling your city where a river meets the coast is the best way of making it a commercially-focused city.

Scythia and Sumer. They are more of Huns and Zulu tier though, science is less impactful now due to all the eurekas.
>>
>>158282002
Selling 2 workers gives you enough money to buy another one asap.

So selling workers after 2 uses and instantly buying another one is a faster and more effective strategy than just churning them out and using the uses.
>>
>>158282032
Scythian is clearly the most broken right now with her raw horses to houses strategy of just generation not only a shit ton of combat units but also being able to sell them to produce a bunch of shit

>>
>>158282032

Rome
Sumeria
These three civilization just fucking consume everyone else, there is no competition. Scythia is already broken just with their ability but there's an exploit that works only with them to be able to sell your double horses at 50% cost and simply buy all the buildings you need
Rome is just better than everyone at everything except their own specialties and even then Rome can be better, to say nothing of their ability to spam fuckhueg wide.
Sumeria is just lmao science warcarts everywhere
China isn't broken but it's top tier because you can get every wonder in the first two ages with a worker and a half.

>>
>>158282246
I would argue that Aztecs come close to game-breaking if you push their district-production abilities hard and use the builder exploits.

Production of districts seems to be the main bottleneck to game progression, more than science or military units. Off the top of my head, nobody gets stronger bonuses to district construction than old mate Monty.

Is it possible to have good relations with AI civs in this game? I just finished my first game and everyone was "unhappy" with me. Even Gandhi and Theodore who were on other continent, and I never attacked anyone. Just fought defensive wars, and conquered one capital in them

Only leader who was not unhappy with me was Tsar of Russia which was neutral
>>
>>158282546
Yeah but directly on the coast is absolute garbage because of needing that goddamn housing bonus from phresh water
>>
>>158282546
The harbor can be placed on any water tile within three tiles of the city center.

The only advantage of coastal settling is early production of long boats as Norway.

Getting hammers is imperative. Mines and shit give so few hammers, though, and access to hammer specialists is cumbersome. So there's no normal way of getting comfortable amounts of hammers. Just chop and mine that shit up.

Also, food is critical due to arbitrary pop limits. And getting specialists into districts if your location is working against you.

Oh, and a few archers to keep em barbs and AI at bay.

And gold to overcome the lack of hammers.

I think we have to recognise that Civ6 is a game with multiple levels of "Game-breaking".

>>
>>158282795
There's been a few threads on leddit about it.

Basically when arranging any sort of trade involving gold-per-turn for resources, you can fuck around increasing and decreasing the amount of gold and using the "What would you give me for this/what would make this deal acceptable?" button to make the AI offer massive amounts of gold for nothing.

Also works in reverse to obtain massive amounts of goods from the AI in return for 1gpt.

The reason it works so well is because the gold for the AI isn't actually earned by anything - it's pulled out of a magic infinite money pile that the AI can access. You can't push AI civs into a gold deficit through trade like you could in Civ5. They have infinite money to buy things off you.

That's all easily fixable thankfully and in the meantime you can just not abuse it. I'd like to see weird district cost scaling and the cultural victory getting adjusted too as well as putting some breaks on the tech tree with some penalties for beelining too hard (why the fuck is archery a dead end tech that isn't required for crossbows?)

Concept wise i dont think there are any glaring issues in civ 6 that cannot be fixed with some adjustments.

I absolutely agree. I think apart from patching exploits, all that's needed is an adjustment to increase tech costs across the board. People have complained about UI issues, but I think a few tweaks to pacing would make the game many times better than it already is.

And it already is, for the record, pretty damn nice. We should take a moment to appreciate the fact that the main issues on release are a handful of exploits and a few niggles with pacing.

Anybody who remembers the Civ5/BE release should breathe a sigh of relief.

Improve Jade and Rice, chop woods with last charge to rush out new worker, make more slingers in meantime. You can switch different production lines without losing production you invested in them, so don't worry. With second worker improve sheep and use chops to rush out a settler, go for the horses to the north. You'll want an encampment district in the cap, those horses to the north improved and endless streams of japanese horsemen to follow.

When you see a scout, chase him. Camps don't spawn by themselves, scouts create them.
A scout spawns in the dark, walks until he sees a player or city state, then finds a safe space and builds a camp which starts making soldiers.

What happened was your warrior was far from the city and a couple of scouts saw you, and you didn't chase them away.
>>
>>158283597
Keep in mind that the entire game is viewed through a statist lens. Every civilization you can interact with is a nation-state of some kind. Even city-states are still states.

Barbarians are anybody who does not follow statist ideology. Tribesmen, rebels, anarchists, terrorists, whatever. Anybody operating not under the banner of a nation is a "barbarian".

Making barbarians a little more complex would be nice. Like, give them certain preferences and personalities like city-states have. At the very least, in the late game.

Religious extremists that spawn with Spread Religion charges. Their religion is a randomly selected minority religion from the nearest city with one or more minority religions.
Gangsters and bandits that sap gold from your treasury whenever they plunder a trade route.
Proletariat revolts that don't capture colonists, workers and other non-combatants. Instead, they destroy the unit and upgrade to a corps or if they're already a corps, an army.
Anarchists, fire-starters, rioters and so on make up the normal barbarians that would prioritize pillaging tiles.

>Throughout his time as vice president, Quayle was widely ridiculed in the media and by many in the general public, both in the U.S. and overseas, as an intellectual lightweight and generally incompetent.[15] Contributing greatly to the perception of Quayle's incompetence was his tendency to make public statements that were either self-contradictory, confused, or impossible ("The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. ... No, not our nation's, but in World War II. I mean, we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century, but in this century's history"), or ("I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future") or this quote, from when he addressed the United Negro College Fund, whose slogan is "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," where he said, "You take the UNCF model that what a waste it is to lose one's mind or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is."[16][17]

>Shortly after Bush announced the Space Exploration Initiative, which included a manned landing on Mars, Quayle was asked his thoughts on sending humans to Mars. In his response he made a series of scientifically erroneous statements: "Mars is essentially in the same orbit [as Earth]....Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe."[18]

Not sure if the book is very accurate, but the Cornwell book had stones from all over the country as the Henge was revised several times. it started small and became bigger and bigger as it expanded with all kinds of stone.

it also had a lot of stones be transported by boat rather than land.

The main problem is that a core city will usually have five or more districts. This means five or more tiles out of the available 36 you're able to work in a city are rendered useless by the district occupying them. This isn't counting the utility districts like Neighborhoods and Aqueducts either.

Tile yields only matter to a young, newly made city. Once it's at 7 pop or higher, all you need is a triangle-farm for food and then you can devote the rest of your pop to luxuries and districts.

As far as I've found, this isn't right- it's not global districts increasing costs, it's researched civics. Like each individual one. You can build a bunch of districts on the same turn and they'll have the same cost, but complete an inspiration that finishes a civic before you start building and it'll raise the price.

This is not strictly impossible, but clearly something strange and undocumented is happening with district costs

At least if it was a thing with per civ/global you could say "Well clearly they fucked up a for loop somewhere and it looks for all districts of same type in the game instead of per civ"

But if it scales per civics researched, then that's a completely undocumented, game-changing, and perfectly illogical feature

Did they make the AI in Stellaris cheat more with the 1.3? I just feel like the AI is creating ridiculous amounts of ships at such pace that they cant fucking have that many without

a) being broke af
b) not having technology for shit because they have credit and mineral buildings everywhere

but still they fucking manage to create these stacks of 40 battleships by the year 2300 while I'm struggling to maintain even 10 within the fleet cap. Also, even if I have ridiculous focus on physics, the AI seems to keep up with me miraculously despite the fucking fact that they have two laboratories in 20 planets and I have mostly labs everywhere.

Why the fuck does this game absolutely shit on any peaceful endeavours by forcing you to just shit out fleet after fleet and disregard science because the AI is gonna beat you in it anyway because they shit techs and battleships and will fuck you if you don't go to war whenever you can as early as possible?

In EL you can sell extractor to build on top of it when you expand, and it works with strategic resources too.
Also order of importance for a city: largest uninterrupted triangle, anomalies, water. A small cluster of anomalies around ruins or rocks is often less profitable than flat 10-tile triangle.

The trick is that chopping is a one turn production, and Barbs usually beeline for your city so you can sneak your worker out once he chopped the shit inside your borders

You can chop twice before selling. Chop a replacement worker one, then chop a military unit. Rinse and repeat

If something fucks up like your chain Builder getting captured by a Barb, just buy whatever you need. You'll already have insane amounts of gold by then (something like half of buy cost, probably around 150 on Standard)

I have kind of a similar situation. Check this out; two of these empires around me hate me because I refuse their subjugation demands repeatedly, one hates me purely because they're dicks, and the rest hate me because they have rivalled me because rivalling a peaceful scientific lot is honorable even to pacifists in this galaxy.

Yep you need to be churning out settlers asap this time around
Maps in civ 4 felt a lot bigger so you didn't need to rush so badly and in civ 5 you had to forward settle luxury resources instead of just every part of the map like in civ 5

Mbongo Mkongo gets a unique district.
Their bonuses are ludicrously strong as well. Since when has the Kongo been a hub for great people and resource plenty?

How does Religion Victory work in Multiplayer? What's stopping another player from just declaring war and mowing down your apostles with cavalry?
>>
>>158290569

There's a few "natural" placements, and then engineered placements you can create

Natural :

>Mountains get holy site, campus
>Art goes wherever, if you have a wonder it's an obvious choice, but you'll rarely have enough to get massive bonuses
>Encampment goes in a dead tile, preferably in the general direction of outside the empire
>Harbor goes wherever, but watch out for artificial bonus (later on)
>Entertainment goes where the fuck ever, I cannot ever fathom making one
>Neighbourhood goes where it says it should go. Luckily unimproved wasteland is pretty. Coastline works well for this
>If you have a natural wonder, switch faith and neighbourhoods to it. If it's an adjacent yield one, avoid niggering the good yields, use tundra or desert
>Industrial goes near resources OR hill terrain, preferably if not on hill itself

Artificial :

>Commie district triangle/wheel (compact 3 to 7 district setups intended to generate adjacency where there isn't. City center is useful for this, so having clean tiles around the city center comes at a premium, unless you're gonna chop everything. Be careful with luxuries)
>Harbor/Market/River/City Center synergy. River deltas lead to super powerful gold synergies if planned properly. Be careful not to nigger your bonus with your city center if the other side of the river is not clear
>Building districts with frivolous adjacency like campus in flat tundra, or art/entertainment, on dead tiles. The tile yields are gonna be dead anyways
>Cross city adjacency, or even cross-empire. This is especially important with industry due to range projection
>>

Im basing some rankings off early wars. Since the civ ai loves to go to war with the warrior carpets early on, Gorgo can get a ton of culture that way, while with Pericles getting suziran of several city states can be hard. (with the ai conquering them all) But the gap between good and meh isn't that amazing, it's just something I thought up in a few minutes after playing a bunch

Well, something needs to change because as it stands now someone attempting a Religious victory has no options for conversion if they are at war with someone.

As far as being unable to move settlers it would be a simple change to make Religious units stack with other units (military or otherwise) of any civ.

Religious victory in general needs to be improved, there's nothing viable or interesting about shitting out Apostles from the Middle Ages until you win the game.

There's not really all that much wrong with the quote in its context, but it's really more about the struggles of living as a mining family in the early 20th century, and doesn't really speak to mining itself.

If they were set on quoting Merle they could've just used a verse or line from one of his songs. "A man will have lust for the lure of the mine" seems succinct enough.

I started getting into Stellaris, and I'm really enjoying it so far, but one thing that bothers me is how shallow fleet control actually is. Like, you can't micromanage your fleets even a little, or set up formations. Like, if I wanted to bait enemies who use long range weapons with one fleet, and then flank them with my other fleet that's using kinetics, that pretty much isn't an option.

Are there any games that give me that level of control?
>>
>>158282951
what a fucking joke
>>
This game needs much bigger maps imo, even huge doesn't cut it
>>
>>158293861
>Are there any games that give me that level of control?
There are plenty, but most of them are either older titeles (Sots, Soase, etc) or have their own issues (MOO).
>>
>>158293861
I'd fucking love stellaris to combat like in homeworld. It'll never happen though. Combat in stellaris as it is now is a fucking joke

So how do entertainment and industrial districts work- Do they provide ALL of the production or amenities that they would give to cities within 6 hexes, including when they've been boosted by workshops factories arenas etc, or just the base amount of production/amenities?
>>
>>158294161
That sounds rad though.
>>
>>158294320

Yeah, Firaxis screwed the pooch on that one

In Civ V they already weren't stupendous due to ranged simply being able to get free attacks before you catch up

In Civ VI they're useless. You can't fucking move them, they can't catch up to jack shit

Horseman does everything better, only weakness is spears but that's what mounted ranged is for

industrial zones factory and power plant buildings gives their hammer bonus to all cities within 6 tiles
entertainment zoo and stadium give their amenity bonus with the same

so I autism'd up how to use that. +35 production when fully developed; +15 production at factory; one city wont be able to get full entertainment bonuses though

you can also do a 3 city version with full lebensraum!

>First in \Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Assets\Maps\Utility Open AssignStartingPlots.lua. Find the line with local iMaxStart = GlobalParameters.STARTDISTANCE_MAJOR_CIVILIZATION or 9. It should be in the function AssignStartingPlots:_MajorCivBuffer(plot). Edit the number at the end to the number of tiles you want minimally between starting plots (I have used 20).
>The variable GlobalParameters.START_DISTANCE_MAJOR_CIVILIZATION can be found in \Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's CivilizationVI\Base\Assets\Gameplay\Data/GlobalParameters.xml. I edited that as value as well, setting it to 20 (original was 9 same as the script)

>>
>>158294320

I guess it's sort of to make up for the fact that the cavalry line in V was mostly useless unless you were one of the civs with a unique cav unit: knights were effectively weaker than both Pikemen and Longswordsmen in most situations, and there was no reason to go Landship or Tank (which also suffered from the fact it had the same strength as its contemporary infantry unit) because Great War Bombers were the endgame once you hit oil.

you probably wanna just start with the outer triangle (gap of 7 spaces between each other) and add the inner cities when you finish those 3 factories

It's amazing how the entire galaxy hates my ass with such passion, considering that I've done absolutely fucking nothing but surveyed and researched shit. Never been to war, never rivalled anyone, never done anything even remotely hostile. Despite all that, half the galaxy thinks I'm such a galactic menace that they need to rival me and form a huge alliance block around me to stop my ridiculously oversized fleet from stomping their asses.

Look at that fearsome fleet of mine. Look at that. How can I even contain my urge to conquer the galaxy when I have such power at my disposal?

> <Text>Frederick (later given the sobriquet “Barbarossa” by the unruly Italians he tried to rule) gathered titles like he gathered enemies. By his death in June 1190 AD, he had quite a few of each. When he was done, he’d beaten all challengers... save a distant swift-flowing river. Historians consider him one of the greatest – if not the greatest – medieval Holy Roman Emperors (well, he was the first). Compared to his peers, Frederick Barbarossa’s longevity, ambition, organizational ability, battlefield prowess, political acumen and focused ruthlessness make him seem nigh superhuman in an age civilization refers to as “dark.”</Text>
