Tyler edition.

Previous thread >>158006972

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Sleeper has decent magical leadership.

Most mages will have some degree of magical leadership too. So long as you don't care about morale you can put a few magical beings on each mage in your army.

So, Arco staled a third time despite turn timer being extended to 36 hours. Sub maybe? Shouldn't be difficult to find one for a player in such a strong position.

In other news, who wants to dispel Burden of Time? I could spare 60 astral pearls but my highest astral is S4 so a bigger astral caster would be preferable.

You should gift them to someone.
>>
>>158289932
That's not very effective for an artifact which costs 10 water gems.

You also might want to mention it's range 15. The wielder needs to be in fairly close for it to work.
>>
>>158290783
Are you cray-cray? 10 water gems is a fucking joke. Basically, anybody could craft it and remove some demon knights or shit that's hard to deal with. Give it to a flying SC, give him a storm spool, and send him to fight some storm demons.
>>
I hear LA Riley in dom4 is shit compared to LA Riley in dom 3, what changed?
>>
>>158290862
>hits one square
>not even a likely kill against most demons
You could forge two water bracelets for the same price, give them to two W1 mages, and cast cleansing water repeatedly. That would be more effective, easier to access, and you can do it more than once.

The only use I'd consider Cleansing Bell for is a way to shut down a demon SC. Even then I'm not sure it'd be worthwhile.

>Give it to a flying SC, give him a storm spool, and send him to fight some storm demons.
A SC chassis which can kill storm demons with a cleansing bell can kill storm demons without a cleansing bell.

On an SC I'd rather have more defenses. Most demons hit hard, and SCs have enough killing power to deal with demons just with their normal attacks.

If you don't think you need more defenses you could even leave the slot empty for a cheaper SC.
>>
>>158291339
>20AN per turn is not worthwile
Well, I guess you never use smashers against golems too. And the bell hits IN ADDITION to existing attacks.
>>
>>158290991
I dont think this is true.
As far as I remember, LA R'lyeh has always been mediocre.
>>
>>158290991
Well, there's several factors. For starters, there's less sites (->gem income) so more stuff is done with gold that LA R'lyeh doesn't have lots of for obvious reasons.

Secondly, research in general is slower and endgame research is harder to reach so midgame tactics and national troops are more relevant. The freespawn R'lyeh gets is militia or sub-militia tier so when it's national troops facing each other as opposed to summoned armies facing other summoned armies, they're at great disadvantage. In addition, endgame strategies like Wish really are endgame stuff rather than something you can count on using so R'lyeh doesn't get nearly as much out of their superb astral access.

When thinking of unmodded Dom3, the dominant strategies often involved Clam of Pearls and having the required paths to craft them, being in good position to turtle and having premier astral access to utilize those astral pearls, R'lyeh was in a really nice spot. CBM mod made those artifacts, but the other differences I mentioned were still there.

There's a number of other smaller changes as well (such as astral getting fewer new options than some other paths like earth, which is an indirect nerf to astral) but those are the main three ones.
>>
>>158291559
I would agree it was mediocre, but I listed several reasons why it'd be relatively worse now.

Are rainbow pretenders worth building? I've seen the sentiment that they were in Dominions 3, but are no longer in Dominions 4. It seems like some nations could really use the diverse magic paths of a rainbow.
>>
>>158294202
Those builds as viable as any others. A lot of people playing rainbows.
>>
>>158294202
With some nations like Lemuria you're almost expected to bring a rainbow (because of all those sweet free points and no sacreds), and with others there could be an argument supporting rainbows (especially for nations that have no/shitty sacreds and not a lot of diversity). There are some effective rainbow builds that won me MP games, including Ulm sitesearcher/crafter, Ermor/Lemuria immortal supercaster, and I think Sauro too.
>>
>>158294202
I got one for EA Atlantis since they dont have trouble expanding and cant really mass sacreds.
>>
>>158294523
I'm actually running an N9E9 on them right now. Basalt Kings are badass, and Living Pillars can roll through indies and small armies without issue.
>>
>>158294451
>>158294508
>>158294523

Yeah I have noticed some nations have awful path diversity, and no real good sacreds. Whats standard to do in a rainbow, awake or dormant? I imagine you want it out sitesearching as early as possible, but you're going to need points if you want a lot of paths.

What kind of magic paths do you usually go for? Just try to hit as many crosspath magic items and good rituals as possible? I'm not really sure where that is, I know 2 is standard for a lot of artifacts, but there are a lot of rituals that can require up to 4.
>>
>>158294735
The lure of fast research is to strong for me.
>>
>>158294935
True enough. I have rather shit research in said game, but the large amount of pillars and kings is quite worth it, in my opinion.
>>
>>158294915
>Whats standard to do in a rainbow, awake or dormant?
If my aim is a normal rainbow pretender I usually trying my best to make him into dormant, because Imprisonment for 24 additional turns doesn't worth 100 design points it costs.
But sometimes I like to have a rainbow pretender with a Monobless. N9 for example always tempts me. And that god have to be Imprisoned, sadly.

About paths. It depends. People like to take paths either for their national mages 'blind spot' or for some specific items they want to craft. There are insane ammount of diferent combinations which also influenced by the chasis you choose.
>>
>>158294915
IT DEPENDS. Mostly you want some core concept behind the rainbow to not waste your time on paths you already have/won't need/can get from easy indies. Look at boosters and try to get the essential ones for your late-game.

If I want to go into S late-game I'll probably pick something like E4S6 (gives both E and S late-game options, especially if you don't have those, so crystal coins/golems/wishcasting/earth kings). Can add A (preferably on an immortal chassis or something with at least some HP) for rain of stones spam.

A4E4 is a good option for a semi-rainbow monster chassis. Cloud trapeze, both A and E late-game summons, RoS, Earthquake, Wrathful Skies - you name it.

D5 on a human is a bare minimum for a tart summoner without rushing artifacts. You need to craft a staff (10 gems) and a skull face (30 gems) to get to D7 for tarts. D5 also allows you to summon wraith lords/liches right off the bat. A is a good crosspath for D, especially on stronger or immortal chassis. Gives you wailing winds/wind of death.

B/D is what you usually want for blood rainbow because of easy vamp lords that can snowball your bloodhunting. B/D/F allows you to both boost fire with flaming skull booster and summon archdevils.

As for putting them on the poll, I'll do it later and make sure you guys know about it so you can edit your votes.

And if you haven't voted yet, well, there's still time so why not vote?

This is excessive, the 5 prot is not worth the cost, a minor E bless for reinvigoration however is acceptable, but E4 is enough for that.
Take a look at their MR, with a little research they are easily countered.

The E9 is for the Kings, not so much for the pillars. While I agree that the protection is largely redundant, it does give the Kings quite a boost. The low MR of Atlantis's troops can be remedied with Antimagic, cast by a mage of the deep with 2 communion slaves and a pair of pearls.

It's largely a meme strat, but it's quite fun.

E/B crosspaths for bloodstones for Earth nations
A/B for robes of the magi
A/E for staves
D/F for fire boosts on fire nations with no death
D2+/D5+ for death boosting on nations with D1/nations going for tartarians
N2 to bootstrap a nation into nature
E2 for the same with a nation with only E1
A4 to get all the useful air boosters.

Checking to see what scaling summons a nation has is pretty useful, for instance with the Agarthas. Or going F/D on Caelum to get the national Daevas

My early game will be very strong =)

I will see what comes from my reduced late game power, well, later. I figure that it would be better to be able to win an early war first, so I made that the priority with my build. I believe that this is more robust than an awake monster at fighting things that are normally hard for Lemuria to beat.

I think that trying it in a real game will prove whether the build is effective or not =)

I have a quick request for y'all -

I just want to grab some quick, informal stats for wins with -
awake / rainbow / bless / heavy scales

If you could list what the winning pretender was in your recent games, that would be very helpful. I know that some things overlap (for instance, you can take an awake N9E4 as a Pangaea player did recently, or an imprisoned N9 with heavy scales) so it's okay to list multiple categories.

Research Thaumaturgy. Select the monolith. Use the drop down menu to choose Teleport. Choose your targeted province. Teleport has a base range of 6.

You see an army, and then airstrike your giant rock on top of it. Once you have obliterated them, build a lab and teleport elsewhere.

Lesser horrors bounce right off, which doom horrors it can handle depends on paths, research, and equipment.

During his travels on land an Atlantean King came upon an avvite city, the Melqart king of which was suffering from depression. So terrible was his plight, that his vassals had promised a reward of 1000 gold to anyone who could make their liege laugh.

The Atlantean King asked for an audience with the Melqart and soon enough, the Melqart was roaring with laughter.

However, the vassals were even more displeased with their new, jolly Melqart who seemed to burst into uncontrollable laughter all the time, much preferring their old depressed ruler. The vassals secretly promised the Atlantean King 2000 gold if he could turn the Melqart back the way he was. The Atlantean King came for a second audience and soon enough, the Melqart was once again trodding around the halls of his palace, depressed.

The Melqart's vassals were amazed, begging Atlantean King to reveal what had happened between him and the Melqart.

"It was very simple", answered the Atlantean King. The first time, I told him I was PACKIN' more. The second time, I showed him.

As someone who scouted that battle, Bogarus put crystal and slave matrices on all of those mages, and he lost at least one of those starets because it was one of the only non-feebleminded survivors with a slave matrix and was burnt out while the other surviving mages tried to blow up your 10 or so pd.

Testing reveals no gamecrashing bugs.

Heavenly Song given to Gandharvas. Typo making it damage 5(x3 v demons) fixed to make it 3(x3 v demons) (used #damage instead of #dmg).
Guhyaka, Yavana Archer price reduced to 30 gold
Yavana, Yavana Archer, Guhyaka defense increased by 1
Yavana, Yavana Archer, Yaksha, Yakshini awe 1->2
Yaksha defense increased by 2

Quicken created. Scaling quickness at Alt 6. Quicken does not scale. Quickening Scales twice as fast as before, but still costs a gem.
Iron Warriors scales by aoe, fatigue doubled.
Enfeeble has a chance of procing 3 times per cast, resulting in up to -6 strength to targeted units

Typos fixed so globals now match the changelog
Mechanical militia moved to const 7

Xibalba unrest corrected

Ryleh buffs reduced in scope
(new shielded unit removed from recruitment; extra itemslots removed, discounts reduced in scope.)
(Polypal mothers still research, grandmothers still improve research, polypal spawn can still go on land, but for 2 turns instead of 3, mindlords are still discounted and still get an extra random).

LA pythium sun cult fixed

Ur now has gods clear afflictions automatically whenever in capital.

Near-future changes:
Make some globals more interesting via event modding
(Looking at underused gems such as Admiral Torgin, Riches from Beneath, the kindly ones, etc).
Implement useful mods such as AInorec.
Additional EA Nation rebalancing

Makes sense thematically. Blood and Astral are the vilest school paths, tainting and meddling with the soul directly. Coincidentally both of them attract powerful otherworldly beings to our world. Even death magic only brings back those who already belonged to this world.
>>

Blood and astral are also the two sources of magic.

When you cast astral corruption, it corrupts the 'Arcana' all magic except blood draws upon, hence why only blood magic is excempt from horror attacks while the global is active.

>>158366352
It corrupts the Arcana.

Blood magic is the corruption itself, that's why it's not affected and it takes blood slaves to cast.

Blood and Astral are considered sort of 'pure' types of magic because theyre not based on the natural world and elemental planes, theyre undilluted power straight from humans without any color or characteristic(hot, cold, hard, etc)

I don't think either of them come from humans.

Astral is literally space magic. It comes from the stars and/or other dimensions. Blood is barely even magic, you just make a sacrifice to not!Satan and he gives you some magic in return.
>>
>>158367113
Astral comes from the 'mind' , hence all the ryleh insanity and mindless stuff and blood comes from , well, blood, although it's probably not the blood itself being used but the soul and the concept of a sacrifice itself.

I guess 'being channeled through' is a better choice of words.
>>
>>158367113

>>

R'lyeh as a nation, after EA anyway, comes from space. Also, look at some of the Astral-focused mages and heroes, a lot of them have a direct reference to space in either their name or their description.

A lot of combat blood spells contradict that. They talk about the mage causing it, rather than trading a slave for the effect.

There's also a few blood spells which don't require blood slaves at all, so blood magic must have some power outside bargaining with hell.

>They talk about the mage causing it, rather than trading a slave for the effect.
That could be a matter of interpretation.

The mage casts the spell, which causes an effect. The exact chain of effects is rarely described, so "mage does X" might as well mean "mage does Y which causes something else to do X in return" in context. I admit that's a shaky argument at best, but it is supported by the few spells that explicitly mention some kind of exchange, as well as some of the lore, most notably Marignon's final victory over Ermor, which boils down to one big "save us, lord Satan!"

It's likely that blood magic does have some power of its own, but it seems to me that this power is often used to contact hell rather than achieve an effect directly.
>>
>>158337449
There are even better ones you can summon
>>
>>158368754
Though exchanging gems (or slaves) for something else rather than using them to create an effect is hardly restricted to Blood magic. Almost all summons are about contacting something and binding it to the caster's will, instead of actually creating it.
>>
>>158368754
A good example is Agony, which has a short description of what it does.
>The mage kills one or more blood slaves in an extremely painful way and transfers their pain onto a large number of enemies.
In this case, the slave doesn't appear to be used to contact hell at all. Their purpose is dying in an extremely painful way, which the mage then projects (using their own skill) onto a group of enemy troops.

There's also a decent number of ritual spells where the method of obtaining the effects is fairly well described and contains no references to contacting hell. Bowl of Blood, Crossbreeding, and Rejuvenate are some examples.

There's also Dome of Corruption which refers to contacting Horrors (thus implying that other horror spells use a similar mechanic), and Dark Vines which refers to contacting dark forces from deep forests. If it's just hell causing the effects, why would you need to contact these other forces?

I think a better conclusion is that blood is just well suited to contracts, summoning, and binding. All of blood's effects being caused by hell has too many holes and spells which don't fit.
>>
>>158369585
That's what I meant with >>158368754. Just because it says "mage does X" doesn't mean there isn't anything else going on. For example, the Rejuvenate ritual involves drenching yourself in the blood of virgins, but doesn't give any indication of whether Hell is involved or not. Is it involved and did they just not mention it, or did they not mention it because it's not involved? They're not going to give an explanation of exactly how each spell works (for none of the schools, not just Blood), so it's not a big stretch to assume they just left out the details. Again, I admit that's a shaky argument, but it seems supported by the lore and the few details we do get.

Bowl of Blood definitely references Hell, since the "five signs" are the almost certainly related to the five factions of Hell that are also featured in Ritual of the Five Gates.

Contacting Horrors is a result of Blood's corrupting effect on Astral, as showcased by Astral Corruption. After all, Horrors are Astral beings. Similarly, Dark Vines and Crossbreeding are Nature corrupted by Blood and Illearth is Earth corrupted by Blood. None of those are "pure" Blood spells, but more an effect that Blood can have on other paths. Either way, contacting Horrors to do your work still isn't doing the work yourself.
>>
>>158369312
I found some of the death summon descriptions very interesting. "The -foo- is intelligent and shares it's master's motives."

So in a way those summons are just a way to enable someone whose wishes align with yours to be born again / return from the Underworld while many other summons bind creatures against their will, forcing them to march to their death if needed.
>>
>>158370235
>all summoners cruelly mindrape their summons
>necromancers just look for a friendly skelly and politely ask them for a hand

Death magic confirmed for best magic.
>>
>>158370796
Imagine being a warrior killed at the very start of a battle due to enemy magickal treachery, unable to properly cross into the afterlife. You spend 300 years cursing your fate when suddenly your friendly neighbourhood comes up with a shovel and gives you a chance to redeem your honour.

Too bad the skeletons are mindless.
>>
Come on china send your turn.
>>
>>158370056
But the spells which clearly involve hell mention it or mention summoning/contacting/binding something from hell. Even when you summon hellpower or send someone to Inferno they mention opening a portal to hell or drawing the attention of hell.

That is, in my opinion, quite strong evidence that when they don't mention hell it actually isn't involved at all. If they just forgot to mention it, I'd expect that to be shown elsewhere.

>Bowl of Blood definitely references Hell, since the "five signs" are the almost certainly related to the five factions of Hell that are also featured in Ritual of the Five Gates.
I'm not sure about that, but it sounds plausible. However, there are still the other two rituals I mentioned.

>Contacting Horrors is a result of Blood's corrupting effect on Astral
>Similarly, Dark Vines and Crossbreeding are Nature corrupted by Blood and Illearth is Earth corrupted by Blood
Yes, but they show that blood isn't intrinsically tied to hell.

It makes no sense to bargain with horrors using blood slaves either (what would a horror do with one?), so it also shows that killing blood slaves has intrinsic power beyond the value hell assigns to it.

Hell = corrupting influence = other paths' shit gets fucked

It's not that far-fetched.

>It makes no sense to bargain with horrors using blood slaves
I don't think that's what the slaves are used for anyway. It's more a case of using Blood to fuck with the Astral plane enough that the Horrors take an interest, and from there you either sent them to fuck someone's shit up (which they naturally want to do anyway) or you strike a deal with them. Dome of Corruption is the most interesting spell in that regard since it mentions an actual pact instead of just sending away the horros to go bother someone else. I entirely agree that the Horrors most likely aren't interested in Blood slaves, but the spell effect gives a far better idea of what they are interested in: Fucking up mages. Fucking up mages seems to be the main interest of Horrors, and since the Dome screws with both hostile and friendly mages, that's probably what they take in exchange for upholding their end of the pact. Not slaves, not "Blood power," but simply permission to break into our reality and fuck up some delicious mages.
>>
>>158372169
>It makes no sense to bargain with horrors using blood slaves either (what would a horror do with one?), so it also shows that killing blood slaves has intrinsic power beyond the value hell assigns to it.

Maybe horrors actually detest blood/humans so by casting astral corruption and tainting the Arcana with blood every time you cast a spell, you make them really angry hence they come to kill you.

>>
>>158372843
That's just Illearth and Antrax though. The other Fire/Earth royalties are still pure.

Though I suppose it's noticeable how only male elementals get corrupted.
>>
>>158367671
I'm not saying Astral magic is not related to the stars, but if you look at the description of horrors they are clearly interested in minds first and foremost. (They consume emotions, suffering, fear and have absolutely no interest in mindless beings.) In contrast with demons who are interested in souls.

Hence why I referred to "mind" as the medium for astral magic and blood/soul as the medium for blood magic.

Neither demons nor horrors would be interested in that particular plane if there weren't intelligent beings with souls. I kinda doubt they visit elemental planes too often for example.
>>
>>158372758
>Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
You don't get to use any explanation you want just because it's not explicitly stated.

The simplest explanation is that hell has nothing to do with it.

>Hell = corrupting influence = other paths' shit gets fucked
>It's not that far-fetched.
No other path completely draws power off the plane(s) it's attuned to.

Blood sacrifice being an intrinsically corrupting force is much simpler than having blood magic (and the blood planes) work differently from the rest of the lore.

>that's probably what they take in exchange for upholding their end of the pact. Not slaves, not "Blood power," but simply permission to break into our reality and fuck up some delicious mages.
But regardless, the slaves are being used to power something (I agree that their purpose is probably summoning the horrors to them via fucking with the astral plane). Therefore their death has power (which gives a plausible source to power the other blood spells).
>>
>>158367671
Also I doubt angels and the celestial realm has anything to do with astral in the same sense horrors and ryleh does. It's just another different plane with astral magic in it. They also got fire and shit.
>>
>>158373849
>Blood sacrifice being an intrinsically corrupting force is much simpler than having blood magic (and the blood planes) work differently from the rest of the lore.
But it does work differently from the rest of the lore.

>Blood uses the blood of human virgins, unlike other paths which all use magic gems
>blood slaves can't be spontaneously generated by natural events, unlike magic gems
>Blood is almost completely unusable without outside power (sacrifices), unlike other paths which all have lots of spells that only rely on the caster's own power and don't require external power sources

Also, blood slaves lose their power when they lose their virginity, suggesting that it's not just some intrinsic magic of their blood that's powering the spells. Unless you want to claim that having sex automatically drains your magic in the Dominions world, which is contradicted by many other pieces of lore.

>>158374168
Summoning angels almost always requires Astral. Just because Arch Devils can use Fire magic doesn't make them fire elementals or anything like that. There are some exceptions, but those are easy to explain (like Iron Angels being essentially an avatar of iron and human craftsmanship rather than an actual angel, and Fallen Angels being obviously corrupted as fuck and need to be liberated from Hell rather than called down from Heaven).

The magic paths obviously has a very D&D-ish plane-tint on them. All the elements are elemental planes, and also elemental-related stuff on the material plane(where we play on). Astral is the magic of the """"stars"""", and also means to contact higher planes of existence, such as heaven. Horrors probably live on the Astral plane and are attracted by such magic-users, so careless use of Astral magic lures down horrors on you.
>>
>>158378428

>>
>>158378612
No , next time don't use an invalid example and complain that I didn't read your mind. Space by itself is not related to "other dimensions" anyway. Space is not another dimension and other dimensions are not in space.

Not to mention that this invalidates your other point, since elemental planes are also in "another dimensions" but you don't use astral to summon from them.

So space and other dimensions are completely unrelated by themselves.
>>
>>158378813
Except space is very much related to those other dimensions. Not every dimension, sure, but when it comes to angels and horrors, they are.

Heaven has always been portrayed as high above the earth, aka space. And Horrors are basically just Lovecraftian things from outer space anyway. Not to mention all those direct references to space, stars, and other planets from Astral mages and spells. Do you think that's just a coincidence?

No. Those other dimensions are related to space. And even that's stretching it, it'd be more accurate to call them related to stars.

> Not to mention all those direct references to space, stars, and other planets from Astral mages and spells. Do you think that's just a coincidence?

Literally what does that have to do with other dimensions by themselves? We are not talking about Astral and Space here, we are talking about Other Dimensions and Space. Do I have to capitalize the key words to make sure you understand?
Again, elemental planes have absolutely nothing to do with space and stars, and they're "other dimensions". Ergo other dimensions are not, by default, connected to space. Some of them are, but they're not the norm, and claiming that one should always take "space" and "other dimensions" together is inane.

Unfortunately we'll have to agree to disagree. Rather than space it seems to me that the celestial realm is simply in a higher dimension, but not "higher" as in above, but on less physical plane of existence, while hell/underworld is on a lower one. And claiming that just because it's "above" means it's in space seems no different to me than claiming that hell is underground or in the center of the planet, just because it has "under" in its name.
>>
>>158380145
And yes I agree that it's astral based, what I'm saying is that it's a different sort of astral, just like there's different kinds of elemental magics.(Like Air has Electricity and Water has Ice)
>>
>>158380145
Don't be deliberately obtuse, it just makes you seem petty.

No, heaven probably isn't literally in space, even in Dominions. But since ancient times it's been "above" both literally and figuratively, whether it's on a very tall mountain, on top of the clouds, or among the stars. Also, in case you missed it, "astral" literally means "relating to stars".

It's not much of a stretch to associate all of that with space.
>>
>>158380387
Associating astral with space, yes it's correct. Just like you can associate ice with water. But not all water is ice.

Your association should just as much make celestial realms be Air instead of Astral since heaven was said to be in the clouds/sky. The concept of heaven existed long before the concept of space was discovered. But I digress.
>>
>>158367113
Blood is about the concrete vs astral which is abstract.
>>
>>158380579
>should just as much make celestial realms be Air instead of Astral
Except celestial spells are Astral, not Air, so that would be nonsensical in context.

>It makes no sense to bargain with horrors using blood slaves either (what would a horror do with one?), so it also shows that killing blood slaves has intrinsic power beyond the value hell assigns to it.
Horrors are attracted to pain and suffering so the magus creates a link through astral means and entices them with the sacrifice.
>>
>>158372363
snek snek sneeeeeek
>>
My head-canon is that horrors are always out there and they are drawn to magic as seen with tainted artifacts. There's some sort of self-repairing barrier ozone-layer like thing that's astral in nature that keeps horrors out. Horrormarks and tainted objects basically make a magic scent or whatever you want to call it that's strong enough that those horrors that slip through the cracks will go after the person marked. The call horror spells use blood magic to basically punch a hole in that barrier, which then lets a horror come in - but one that's not chosen or controlled in any way. Then astral corruption is a spell that basically weakens that barrier significantly to the point that horrors can slip through more readily, so the hole-punching spells leave a bigger / longer opening for more horrors to get through and sufficiently motivated horrors can go eat their targets.

Basically, astral horror magic is just a targeting thing that makes the horrors that go through go for a specific target, whereas blood horror magic actually damages the barrier directly.

Shark Tribe are NOTHING like Barbarians.

Barbarians are three attacks per square, dealing 19 damage at attack 10.

Shark Tribe are NINE attacks per square, six of which come with Poison. Six damage 11, three damage 10. Plus they have Berserker +2, which puts them to attack 13/damage 13/12 and renders them immune to morale if it triggers. They are fucking bananas, but will (mostly) bounce off of an Earth Snake, because they don't have the damage to reliably break 20+ prot.

Fair enough. My point was mostly that they aren't super hitty in the way Barbs can be.

On the other hand, W9 Aphroi will laugh at Barbarians, but have their shit pushed in by Shark Tribe.

As someone who's tried both full scales + boosting minors and expanders, an awake is almost strictly better than a full scales build for actually winning games.

True, true. I usually go with dormant ritual casters/diversity gods, or imprisoned immobiles. I could probably get away with an awake, but I can get near-perfect scales coupled with a half-decent bless if I don't go with an expander.

There's some pretty good tactics available to most paths, such as

>Fire
Spend a gem (you can craft Fire in a Jar booster for that) for Phoenix Power and then spam F2 spells like Fireball
>Water
Frozen Heart
>Air
If you have Storm access, they can Stormpower and spam Lightning Bolt/Orb Lightning
>Nature
Swarm
>Death
Dust to Dust is a good anti-UD spell

It's also worth noting that S1s are also good as Stellar Cascades spammers if you have a bigger mage casting Light of the Northern Star (depending on the circumstances, it can be better than communioning them with other astral mages) and B1s can cast Leech (since it reinvigorates the mage, even B1s get a couple of casts off despite 100 fatigue cost)

In addition, there can be situations in which a number of other spells can be worth casting other than the ones I listed, and giving them boosters or gems to cast spells can also be worth it (for example, LA Caelum with their dualwielding Raven Guard benefit a lot from Strength of Giants so until you get E2 random and can start crafting Earth Boots, spending a gem on E1 to Earthpower and spending another gem for SoG can be well worth it).

Also, in most circumstances you want to have some research mages at home so might as well keep X1s that tend to be gold-efficient.

They are less squishy than human mages with 15 HP, floating and ethereal make them resistant to naughty tricks like earthquake and RoS. Blind fighter, heat aura, fire shield, aoe fire spells and aoe normal attack make them resistant against skellyspammers. Die to anything water related especially If you arrange them all next to each other to maximize the heat effect. I'd say around 10 water elementals would do the trick. What magic support do you have to back them up? They're just indies, so they should flee after you get the first real hit in on them.
>>
>>158418557
That seems a bit low to me, unless they're running buffs.

Water elementals without buffs tend to get cut up pretty fast.

>>158423134
Earth Meld costs fatigue to cast, like all other spells. It immobilizes anything it hits until they pass a strength check to escape.
>>

But would that fatigue the enemy trying to escape? How hard is the check?
>>

It does not fatigue the enemy. I'm not sure how hard the check is, but it should be more than enough to take a large amount of the enemy out of the fight.

The nemedian warriors seem pretty boss, though I'd eventually like to thug my kings and make use of dance of the morrigans. With either of those blessed I'd have to empower in death (which.. shouldn't be an issue) to forge the boosters to get my kings to cast the national spell. Is that still good, all things considered?
>>
>>158424752
Ok thanks anon.
>>
>>158424861
Eh, I've never really seen Morrigans used. Nemedians are decent, but you usually want to recruit giants from your cap. T-Strike spam is your go-to.
>>
>>158425031
Isn't it regarded as one of the best national spells in the game? I guess it's not often used because you need a pretender or empowering to help you cast it.
>>
>>158424240
Fomoria is very flexible. You can take an N9 monobless or N9E4 for your druid thugs / king SCs that also helps make your sacreds even better at holding a line. You can take a W9/X bless for Morrigans. You can take no bless at all and get better scales or an awake god (or both, with a thrice horned boar).

They all have tradeoffs with regards to how you expand and what you'll rely on in your late game, but they all work.
>>
>>158400973
>'m going to need 24h extensions for all of my games because of my computer dying.
>Olathe pythium, kichikuo patala, VD Berytos, and bizarre R'lyeh.
As I admin all those games I have granted extensions for all those games
>>
>>158427535
Of these options, which do you naturally lean towards as a player? N9E4 caster/thug bless, W9D5 morrigan bless, scales, or awake god? Just asking for your personal opinion! I've played all these strategies, just not as Fomoria, so am curious as to player leanings and reasonings.
>>
>>158425031
morrigans are absolutely amazing, it's a crime for a fomoria player not to use them
>>
>>158428390
I like N9E4, because I like giving a bunch of fomorian druids a frost brand and bombing the entirety of enemy's territory in trapezing goats.
>>
>>158428416
That is what I heard! Have you played a game as Fomoria utilizing them? If so, what was your pretender?
>>
>>158401997
>>158402051

You remember incorrectly. Cat Charms/Bear Talismans let you protect against seduction, but dont let you seduce same sex.
>>
>>158428563
I played a disciple game with fomoria as a team member, if you can convince someone to trade you a skullhead then you can get your Dance of the morrigans without having to take a D5 on pretender. Also fromthe battles I watched it's def worth your time to spend individual mage turns to summon them with the lesser spell IMO. they are just such very good units to have with your main army
>>
>>158429917
>>158428563
it's also worth nothing you have two national heroes who are capable of casting dance of the morrigans on their own

>>
>>158430612
>>158431036
Or is cold 3 just bad to take? It seems my main mages and sacreds just don't care, but my other troops might.
>>
>>158430553
Thank you, I did not know that! Still, I think we'll be playing with random events on rare, so misfortune is just a solid choice for free points.
>>
>>158431442

Most nations can dump temperature scales, and Cold is a good one for Formoria to. You almost definitely do not need that much production, considering your best units are cap only and you sound like you are relying on a Morrigan strat.
>>
>>158432228
Doesn't it still help with overall income? Although at 2% per scale it may not be worth the points...
>>
>>158432228
Prod 3 Fomoria is hella good though. So many Nemedians
>>
>>158432354
That's exactly what I was thinking. The nemedians have amazing stats.
>>
Random aside, but W9 actually makes positioning your sacreds for expansion notably harder. In general, you want to mix firbolgs or nemedians in with the unmarked (because size 4) but with W9, your sacreds are faster. In order to get a working mixed setup, you need to use a line formation, which often means giving up the first hit to the indies. They still expand very well, though. The one downside to sacred rather than nemedian expansion is that when expansion is over, you'll generally prefer having more nemedians to elf someone rather than unmarked.
>>
>>158381465

c'tis is tha best.
>>
>>158432760
that's the thing though why even use unmarked when nedmedian exists. W9 is to just make your Morrigans even more badass
>>
>>158432894
They expand better
>>
>>158432760
That's great advice, so thank you for commenting! With W9 I'm almost thinking of just relying on pure nemedians for expansion unless I'm worried about a rush from a neighbor, and just utilizing the bless with thugs and morrigans later in the game.

Sorry, I meant that you could take Abysia. Not that you could take provinces or whatever. You just gotta believe in yourself.
>>
>>158433862
I mean, I am still going to take them because they are useless to you and its faster than going back around but I still dont want no trable.
>>
>>158433784
I could take prod 1 and magic 2, perhaps?
>>
>>158433837
>>158433913

Listen, test out expansion in SP until you can snag 15+ provinces and a fort. Prod 2 should let you do it with nemedians, but I've seen it work with neutral production scales. The fact is that lategame production scales won't help you out really, while magic scales let you get to your morrigans quicker.
>>
>>158434496
Thanks. Will do. <3
>>
Why not just take a W9 dog as formoria? Maybe take D5 for skullfaces on it, but is otherwise stupid cheap and can give you a shitton of scales. I can't imagine Reinvig +2 being too great on Morrigans because of their life drain attack, and your kings can cast soul vortex.
>>
>>158434616
>>158434496

That all being said, if you need Prod 3 to expand and get huge, do so. A huge expansion will win you games by letting you have a shitton of gold for a shitton of mages which will more than make up for neutral magic scales.
>>
>>158434675
I was thinking of E4 for the hammer, and the reinvig helps the druids too. But that might be a better plan..

I wouldn't use them against Ermor, but against living opponents a big block of hp with fear is pretty useful. Not every tart is worth making into a commander

I use all the monstra and spirits as regular troops. Cyclopses depend on their afflictions and Titans are instant GoR targets unless they are feebleminded.

He's forgetting that you have so many that you can just doubleclick whatfuckingever and it'll fill a mound king.

Ah, okay. I never ever give too much attention to skelly sorting. You mostly just select a single type, fill a mound king, and set them to attack rear in skirmish formation. Thing is, later in the game you start to give less and less fuck about it as your skelly count increases, that's why I even forgot to set them into formation and give them orders.

Honestly, Illfraud should replace freespawn with some other resource-dependent system like dark energy in Heroes V, where you can select what kind of undead you want and make balanced armies.

There's NationGen's SpriteGen, which is what makes the sprites for NationGen by splicing together parts of existing sprites if that's what you're after.

I don't think anyone brags all that much.

That said, you don't have a choice about becoming a meme. It's already happened. The meme is also not even really about you anymore; it's about signing other people's posts with Malakal when they're being diplomonsters.

Be careful you don't download the one from the malicious site, there is a dl link that shows up on page one of google that bundles a bunch of malware in with it

There are several people in that game that are interested in killing Malakal first just to spite him. Sum1 is a good player but even he makes stupid mistakes sometimes.

>>
>>158488132

damn it.
>>
>>158489220

What sheet? You mean that spreadsheet with all the games listed? I only put my first win up and didn't bother putting my name there, I mean, what's the point?
>>
>>158488965
refer to >>158343861

Early in /domg/'s history, a guy using the Forester pretender (called Forester Bob) geared him as a thug to fight an invading Helheim, and then proceeded to wreck two of Helheim's armies with him. Helheim's butthurt was so severe that it echoed throughout the ages and still persists to this day.
>>
>>158489404

The sheet specifically asks for player names? So we can know who won and who played thus measuring skill levels?
>>
>>158489515

Whatever, when I get good enough that it'll matter, I'll add start adding my name, until then, I'm just in it for the learning and the fun, not the e-cred.
