There are some builds that allow you to be more special snowflake-y and still be cancer though.

I've currently been doing SL125 pontiff invasions with the corvian greatknife and under 30% equip load, havel's +2 I still have some good fashion and damage absorption, with chloranthy +2 and grass and 37 end I can roll around for ages. I don't even bother with dark resin anymore because I wanted to simplify the build as much as possible, so I have as few things to have to think about at any given time and can focus on the fight.

I added hornet ring and an offhand blesstus to it because I've found that I end up guard breaking people a lot and the 115 crit bonus is nice, should also help a lot with backstabs and the like to make them more deadly in invasions. I can also practice roll parry wakeups I think since I roll so much like roll into someone trying to spam to roll catch me and parry them.

I also play a havel GS + swordspear build I've had a lot of fun with, backstabbing parry fishers all day.

OK, I've beat BB's DLC now and I'm gonna give DeS another go after AoA.

What's a fun build in DeS that has the best variety of weapons - STR or DEX? Are sorceries or miracles any good?

I made a mistake of replaying BB with a skill build only to realize that pretty much all weapons are either str or str-sided quality.

choose temple knight as a starter. Knight is fine too because starting with fluted set is cool, but temple knight has the best stat spread.

My fave build was probably my str build where I used the dragonbone smasher, that weapon feels so good to use. Meat cleaver is great too...oh and great axe. they have hyper armor on attacks.

The rest can't for good reason, because they're longer than spears and have hyperarmour while also being faster than other ultras with 700AR.

Theres no fun build in Demon souls, if you want to pvp you pick up the scrapping spear, and that's your life in pvp, and nothing else matters.

Shields are impenetrable walls theres no kick or breaks, you just have to wait for the enemy to put down their sheild.

Armor is all bad, you should just be naked you won't notice a difference.

Cursed Weapon gives you 50% extra damage on ANY weapon, so you better fucking have it.

Collect 100 of every type of moon-grass before pvping, expect battles to end up costing about 100 of every type of moon-grass if you want to win because whoever wants to spam more moon-grass will win.

Early game you will be invaded if you are playing online. They will have the scrapping spear. Just suicide before they reach you. Theres no point in letting xXxultrasoulsmanxXx break all your gear then trap you with his body while you are no longer able to move.


Uchigatana, Adjudicator's Shield, Dragon Bone Smasher, Scrapping spear. These are the only weapons/shields in the game, if you arn't using one of these, you arn't using something good.

Dark Souls 3 is probably my favourite gameplay/mechanics wise, along with Demon's Souls. It's really fun to play imo.
However, I'm just not feeling the atmosphere at all in this game compared to any other game in the series. Yes, even Dark Souls 2 had better atmosphere in my opinion.
I just can't put my finger on exactly why that is.
It might be because it's so "busy" with it's details (my borderline autistic brain can only handle so much), it might be the atmo-sounds, the music. I dunno.

It's very difficult to lose when using those weapons, anon.
If you were the kind of person who could manage a 50% winrate in /dsg/ FCs with fun weapons, then you'll beat 99% of carthus users with a carthus of your own. Only the top like 1% of tourneyfag autists will actually be a challenge, and when you realize that they rely excessively on sprintbaits and WD pokes then you have a decent chance of beating them, too.

This arena thing has been an eye-opener for me. The absolute top-tier best of the best in DaS3 are on the level of the average twitchspinner from DaS2. Rather than learn how to use a weapon's moveset properly, they use it for literally one attack and swap to another weapon if they want something else. Their offense boils down entirely to sprinting at you, sprinting away from you and then sprinting sideways, never coming in range. It's no different from spinning in that all they're waiting for is either for you to whiff an attack trying to anticipate aggression they'll never actually do and give them a free punish, or try to approach them so they can spam carthus R1s defensively.

Also, protip: get used to using a greatsword unlocked. None of the tryhard autists know how to deal with them right now and they completely shut down carthus swords. Now that their 1H moveset is usable you can pair one with a BK or millwood shield and meme on garg spears and washingpoles, too.

I use my DS4 with it all the time with no problem. Steam is even adding native DS4 support.

The Dark Souls series on PC just has a terrible history with controllers (maybe other than Xbox ones) regardless of OS. I find DaS2 almost unplayable because of the weird deadzoning it has where your character only runs along preset lines, like you're playing an old FIFA game or something (not just on W10).

You can out-space maces because their range is still trash compared to most ultras

How much poise do you need to endure 2 CS r1s?

Not sure if anyone has posted about this but I've done some testing with the pyromancer's parting flame.

It has less spell buff and does less damage overall than the regular pyromancy flame at +10 but has a unique passive where it lets out a bonus burst of fire in close range when you cast a pyromancy.

This passive is usless on ranged spells unless you throw them point blank but it is absolutely REQUIRED when using something like black flame or great combustion because it straight up skyrockets the damage.

Still have literally no clue what the weapon art does.

I could still match with 150s, but it took like 5 minutes of searching.
I ended up just quitting arenafaggotry altogether and went invading instead. Fortunately, agape ring meant you could make an invasion build with endgame SL and stats and still be in range to invade Iron Keep, so I spent the next thousand hours or so killing new players 60 levels below me with all the tryhard pvp stuff I'd learned from spending a year in the arena.

I kinda miss DaS2.

Morning star has significantly less damage, but does scale well when raw and has innate bleed; Rape people at lower levels with it raw and carthus'd.

The normal mace's AR is just insane, 450~ on a 66 STR build two-handed, or 480 on a 40/40 two-handed.

When you can break 150 dura weapons in 3 casts because it ticks ONCE unavoidably through their roll iframes every time you cast it, it was a little broken.

I looked up a list to compare and see if anything had been changed in the patch. According to their list, Moonlight Vortex couldn't be parried as long as the person using it had FP, which was either wrong or has since been changed.

24 ATT instead of 30 because a small amount of extra FP is a luxury and not a necessity when you have blue juice.
Use the heretic's staff because it's stronger than the court sorcerer at 40int
And you'll have enough spare stats for at least 35vigor and 20 end.

Same with a healslut. You go 40 instead of 60, use a more efficient casting tool and make use of your blue juice instead of having a million ATT.

You can't make a havelmonster at 80 because 80 is not a cancer meta, so your cancer builds get fucked. However, you only need 19 vitality to afford 31.4 poise with a UGS if you use havel's ring, which allows you to use ultra greatswords at 80 with enough poise to resist greatswords and maces and everything smaller than an ultra.

Quality you just go 27/40 or 30/30 for paired weapons. Once again, leaves you enough spare points for 35vig and at least 20 end.

At SL 80 the only build functioning at near max effectiveness will be Quality, a 27/40 CCS 2 handed and a 40/40 one is a negligible damage difference

Yet every other build that's NOT quality is unfinished garbage at that SL that deals shit damage.

The reason you like SL 80 is because you're invading noobs who are shit at the game, not because builds are somehow better or more diverse. In reality, there are LESS effective builds at 80, but the shitters down there don't know it

I guarantee you'd have an autistic shitfit if everyone you ran into at 80 was 27/30/27/40 Vig/End/Str/Dex using life ring +3, FAP +2, Chloranthy +2 and sun princess with a refined Carthus Curved Sword with carthus rouge (or follower saber since it's the same shit but better WA for less reach)

The poise stat doesn't change your frames, guy.

The most important aspect of the new poise system is that poise damage effectively doesn't carry over between attacks. If you can HA trade with something without being interrupted, then you can ALWAYS HA trade with it without being interrupted. None of that random arbitrary poisebreak shit.

It takes much more poise now to resist larger weapons, and it's still largely tied to the weapon that you're using (eg. glaives are easier to interrupt that UGS), but at those larger values, poise is extremely consistent

Also worth noting that everything smaller than the mace deals piddly poise damage. You can trade with 1 hit of a 2H curved sword with only like 10 poise forever. So basically everything smaller than a mace requires no poise stacking, and just having a piece of armour in every slot is enough.

27 vigor is one of the major breakpoints where you start to get diminishing returns. It's hardly ideal and at 120/125 every character I make has at least 40 vigor in addition to FAP+2/Life+3, but we're talking about SL 80, and I value endurance more than health at low levels. By 120 you OBVIOUSLY want them both maxed, but could go 37/20 instead of 27/30 if you really care that much and just make sure you eat green blossoms every invasion

Doesn't change the fact that SL 80 has one viable build since sorcs/faith/pyro are dogshit until lategame and hollow isn't worth it since Anris got nerfed

Most melee builds at 80 will have 20-25 END. It's simply not efficient to invest more when levels are at a premium unless you're actually willing to sacrifice vigor for more of it. Hey look at that, a meaningful tradeoff!

Mages at sl80 actually have about as many levels to play with as melee builds. Neither your vigor nor endurance are limited limited compared to quality. The biggest downside to low level magery is the fact that stat rings are very valuable at those levels, and you lose out on them because your build practically requires 3 ringslots dedicated to casting.

Have you actually played with/against the Onyx blade?

It's nothung spectatcular. The best parts about the weapon are the guy who you get it from, who has cool armor and dialogue, and the fact that it's very stylish

Claymore is not a good weapon in this game, onyx blade suffers heavily from split damage, it's a greatsword so it's not awful but there's just better options if all you want to do is r1 people twice in a row until they fall over

What is the best 40/40 quality weapon for ripostes?

I've been using the Winged Knight Halberd since it's longer than the BK Glaive and has a great 1H moveset and has more damage, but i usually don't 1-shot people at SL125 (though I leave them with a sliver of health so I've been using throwing knives and a GF Spear to switch to, to finish off the last sliver). It's also great for fishing (throw out an R1 and they run in to attack and you parry), and the R1 R1 combos.

Is there anything better?
