Okay, so after some raw AR testing:
>big scythe is physical-only indeed but its AR are misleading because it's a sweet spot weapon, if you hit someone with scythe blade itself it deals whopping ~30% more damage
>this also means that scythe reaches optimal effectiveness with EXTREME ease with just 40 DEX, 60 DEX only adds ~20 ar to the blade itself
>damage of magic scythe can be neglected as the main schtick of big L2R1 combo is powerful hyperarmor and frost buildup
>the only attack that takes considerable hit with low magic is L2R2 which is mostly a fun, gimmick attack suited to style on shitters, and it still causes massive frost buildup which is more effective than magic damage itself
>str scaling only adds 20 AR more to it on 40STR
So, generally, it's a weapon for a simple dex build meeting base requirements for int and fai.
In fact, you can build a character around it at such a low level it leaves some points for fun stuff like Snap Freeze and utility sorceries like Spook.
Overall it's a godly weapon that requires a bit of spacing to make it work. Which means esport reject trash will never appreciate it but it WILL wreck shit in random invasions and L2R1 is build specifically for fucking up multiple opponents at once.

Test guy from last thread with 66str tests on Axe and Hammer.
Axe reaches 580 AR with pretty much just base faith and 66str 2-handed, could easily break 600 with any kind of faith build. WA is slow but big, and enemies who are close to you take damage from plunging the weapon, just like Morne's. Can hit 3 times, but it hitting seems a little RNG. Its kinda like a smaller, controlable Firestorm.

The magic damage (and thus int scaling) only applies to the second blade, and the second blade is only active during the stance attacks. The rest of the moveset is pure physical and the WA is split damage so even with pure dex you still get effective damage from both, while the returns for investing int applies literally only to the WA.

My usual tactic for dealing with pyros was to space myself to bait a black serpent and HA through it to punish them. Now Black Serpent is like a guaranteed poisebreak so ultras are fucked. My honest recommendation would be to swap to something smaller. If you're a strength build, you should have some axes or something that have a better chance of dealing with it. Any 1H weapon larger than a dagger can space around Black Flame and everything they cast else can be interrupted or avoided by being a competent player, allowing you to maintain pressure.
