They aren't that bad, they're just highly situational and unforgiving of mistakes.

Generally:
1. Aim for BB superstructure. Shooting the hull with AP will, in most cases, do zero damage.
2. Run away from BBs whenever you can, they will citadel you just by looking at you in a scary way.
3. Shoot at cruiser hulls if they are broadside, shoot at cruiser superstructures if they are running away or rushing towards.
4. Just click on DDs, you don't have to think too much about it.
5. Slow down to less than 15 knots before dropping smoke, otherwise you'll just waste your smoke since you're ship moves too fast and you'll leave the smoke circle.
6. Move forwards and backwards constantly while in smoke, because enemies who aren't dumb will just shoot at your smoke, looking at where your shells are appearing from.

Tiers 1 to 6 are extremely boring, tiers 7 to 10 are extremely fun.

Forgot to mention, if a BB glances at you and you do end up losing a huge chunk of health, don't get too nervous, since you have a special heal potion that lets you recover a huge chunk of it back. While popping the potion, ensure for the next 20 or so seconds that you don't get clicked on again.

The handling of these ships are really great; they turn very well, and they don't bleed speed when they turn. However, changing speed (e.g. accelerating or decelerating) is not very responsive, so keep that in mind when you're slowing down to avoid torps.

Know what ship you're sailing. If you push, angle against other BBs and CAs. And do push, you're quite tanky and despite the range, you're not supposed to blue-line snipe. Dispersion will also fuck you over. I'm not too much into BBs but I think generally it goes something like this.

Germany: Very tanky, great brawlers, almost impossible to citadel due to turtleback
Japan: Somewhere in between, some are great brawlers, reliant on angling as prone to citadels due to many magazines on most ships
American: Usually better off being center due to lacking range in the lower tiers, also very slow in low tiers, NM is a great brawler from what I've heard

Like I said I haven't played that many BBs. Currently sitting at the Gneisenau. Don't forget that German BBs have shit torp belts so you really wanna avoid getting hit by those.

The problem with the low tier British CLs is that, unlike those at tier 7 and above, you barely have any utility for the rest of your team. You're always wondering if you're going to overpen or bounce, while other ships are happily blapping away with HE and dealing consistent and guaranteed damage.

At least after tier 6, you have all these consumable toys to make life much easier, and your AP can do more consistent damage against enemy targets, plus the longer ranges allow you to control the engagement a little better.

Note that when I was playing these low tier botes, they didn't have healing potions yet, so perhaps my opinion is no longer valid.

The armor protection of USS ARKANSAS was made, as were all ships of its era, of patches of armor from all of the three large U.S. naval armor steel manufacturers--Carnegie (later Carnegie-Illinois and, still later, U.S. Steel), Bethlehem, and Midvale. This means that different spots on the ship have different protection levels, since there was a significant difference between the face-hardened U.S. Navy Bureau of Ordnance Class "A" armors made by these manufacturers through 1923 in many cases (in the mid-1930's, when armor was again made, the differences became rather minor). The ARKANSAS was built during the worst part of this difference era:

1. The Carnegie-Krupp Cemented (CKC) Class "A" armor was very similar to slightly improved (tempered) German Krupp KC armor.
2. Bethlehem at this time was experimenting with its Bethlehem Non-Cemented (BNC) high-Carbon, high-Chromium, low-Nickel Class "A" armor, which was very brittle and of minimum acceptable quality (Bethlehem quit making it shortly thereafter).
3. Midvale was also experimenting with its Midvale Non-Cemented (MNC) Class "A" armor, which also used a high Carbon content, but normal Krupp armor levels of Nickel and Chromium. By the way, "Non-Cemented" means no thin (circa 1" thick) "Harveyized" or "cemented" (carburized) surface layer so the maximum hardness was less for such armors. MNC also used an immensely thick face that only softened to the tough back level at about 80% (!!) of the way from the face surface to the back surface, which KC and CKC used only a 33-35% face/transition layer thickness (I do not know what BNC used in this regard). MNC was also somewhat brittle (though not nearly as bad as BNC) and was dropped by Midvale just after BNC was dropped by Bethlehem.

It's probably that WG got greedy, but doesn't want to increase the price of the old WoT premium tanks for some reason. Newer tier 7s have been rather expensive as well, the VK4503 was at least 35$, and you couldn't buy it with gold either.

I got a 50k credits, 500 free XP and 5 flags by opening a credit box yesterday. While it's not much, it's much better than the credit missions, which sometimes took 3 days to reload and I barely even noticed whenever one was available.
Meanwhile, I got 5 standard camo and 5 flags for opening a "lucky" crate.

Going safe and steady with standard crates feels like a better choice in the long run, and definitely an upgrade over the mission system. But the feel that I'm going to miss a sweet 100k free XP/10M credit box that surely is right on the next crate keeps itching me.
