Because people with higher WR influence games more often. Sure, they can't win every single match, but their performance gets them to squeeze 2 or 3 extra victories from the standard 5 wins out of 10 games spread.

Farming high amounts of damage without any WR improvement to show means you're just farming damage and not influencing the match.

You are driving a Fletcher. There's a base that needs to be captured in the center of the map, and a Yamato reversing near the border of the map.

You could ignore the cap and go after the Yamato. You use your guns to set her up on fire, shoot some torps and maybe hit some. You eventually sink her and rack up a nice 130k damage out of her, since she repaired some of the fire damage giving you extra HP to shoot at.
Or you could go after the cap and secure your team a steady increase in points. You also kill an enemy DD that was going after the same cap along the way. You end up with 20k damage.

Example. Benson is better at contesting caps and has better smoke than other DD.
Bisco is a good choise, since you will be fighting at closer ranges where turtlevack and good secondaries matter more., than good accuracy etc.

But yeah, I prefer them over stock and the 20km torps. 8km is the sweet spot for me. There's also the meme build of 81 knots with torp acceleration, but you need CE to make it work. And even then, it's still pretty risky since you don't have the speed of Mine/Kami/Shima to get away and with radar/hyrdo being able to spot you before you even get close. It's for absolute kekness.

The changes were to

autobounce angle tolerance (angling affects them less),

amount of armor needed to trigger the fuse (drastically reduces overpens on DDs and superstructures)

higher damage on full penetrations (half instead of a third)


All of this is designed to increase steady/sustained damage from AP and to just rekt DDs.

None of it lends itself to more citadels than other 6" class guns

Against superstructures so long as they're not in the narrow bracket advantageous angle range there's no advantage that I can see - unless the 1/2 rather than 1/3 standard pen damage they tried out applies which I didn't see in the patch notes? I do not remember many 6in overpens on other CL or especially BB. It's also worth noting that the short fuse probably doesn't help trying to citadel anything with a turtleback such as the Hipper or Nurnburg - will the short fuse stop you penetrating fully?

Well I have played a lot of cruiser's and this lack of HE means when they numbers come out these ships will be seriously underperforming and will be in need of a buff. I average very high in Bogatyr and am the 3rd ranked on the server in Kohlberg. Which is a terrible rendition BTW. Brit cruisers suck at least to tier 4 I may give up on this line as I have seen very little redeemable in them without HE.

For the last 28 games i've had an 'average' WTR because I didn't do that much damage.

I won because I smoked the BBs & CAs, I hunted enemy DDs where appropriate, I spotted out enemy torps and DDs for focus fire and dodging and i contested caps just long enough to give us a tick advantage before withdrawing.

There's a lot more to winning than just raw damage.
